Product Expert Lindsey S's Opinion

Why would I buy this?

  • Rotating latches let you really fine-tune the tension on the bars for good weight distribution
  • Quieter ride than systems with steel brackets or cams - no scraping or loud popping
  • Extended height shank is great for towing with a lifted truck

Why wouldn't I buy this?

  • The chain setup just won't give you enough tension for good sway control
  • Included wrench can be a pain to use
  • You'll have to buy a hitch ball separately
Shank fits 2" hitches and offers up to a 13" rise and a 7" drop. System uses optimal points of tension to help prevent sway while it balances your trailer's load for a more level ride. Clamp-on brackets require no drilling. Lowest Prices for the best weight distribution from Blue Ox. Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro

Blue Ox SwayPro Spring Bars

Unlike other weight distribution systems, the SwayPro has automatically locking brackets throughout. Both spring bars insert, slotted side up, into the head assembly and then lock securely in place. Removal is just as easy - simply lift the locking pins on the trunnions and slide the bars out. Blue Ox spring bars are interchangeable with each other. If you buy a new trailer or tow vehicle and you need to increase or decrease your capacity, you can simply buy new spring bars instead of purchasing a whole new system.

Blue Ox SwayPro Rotating Latch Brackets

Other systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.

Built-In Tension Stops Sway

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

Video Transcript for Blue Ox Weight Distribution - WD With Sway Control - BXW0756 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox Wafer Weight Distribution System with sway control. This system is going to feature a tongue weight capacity of 550 - 750 pounds and a gross towing weight capacity of 7,500 pounds. What a weight distribution system does, is it helps to evenly distribute weight over the axis of your tow vehicle and trailer, which is going to offer a better stability and better control. Ultimately it creates a more level ride for both the tow vehicle and the trailer. This one is going to feature built in sway control, which is going to help prevent trailer sway. It's nothing separate that you need from the weight distribution system.

It's all built in. There's going to be constant tensions in the trunnions, which is going to help force the trailer inline at all times. That's the built in sway control. Then we have the rotating lift brackets that really ensure that the chains are tight at all time and secure, to keep the spring bars from moving. Another neat feature about the unit is, unlike many friction style sway controls, the Sway Pro allows you to back up your trailer, without having to remove, or disengage anything from the weight distribution system. When it comes to the spring bars.

These are spring steel bar. They will flex for a nice controlled, softer, smoother and quieter ride. They automatically lock in place in the head assembly and they can be easily removed as well. All you have to do is lift the pin and the bar will slide right out. You got it engaged, you just put it in, rotate it, until that locking pin engages.

It goes back down into the locked position. Really nice and easy to use. A really neat feature of Sway Pro, is that if you get a new, or different trailer, you don't have to worry about buying, or upgrading to a new weight distribution system. All you have to do with this system is purchase new spring bars that are rated for your trailer. All the other hitch components are going to stay the same, so they can stay in place. All you need is new bars.

These bars are going to be marked with a dot system on the shank end, which is going to identify the weight rating. This bar has two dots, which means that it's rated for up to 750 pounds. Another neat feature about the Blue Ox Sway Pro, is that it doesn't really require any pins and clips. It's going to have self locking devices that function throughout the system. On the back of the head assembly where the bars go in, there's going to be a greaser. One on this side and one on this side, that way maintenance is very easy. You can attach a grease gun, pump it in and it will lubricate the internal components that way. All the grease is self contained inside the head assembly. It's a clean system. You're not going to have grease get out. You're not going to have grease get on your bars. You're not going to have to worry about any type of mess. Maintenance is quick and easy with this system. When it comes to the lift brackets, these are a very unique design. These are going to be our unique rotating lift, or excuse me, latch lift brackets. These are going to be what connect the spring bars to the trailer with the chains. Very quick and simple to use. What you would do is you would rotate this into the down position. This is the position that would allow you to easily connect the chains. The chains are going to go in this groove right here. You find the appropriate length for you application. It goes in this opening right here and it's going to be securely held in place. Then once you're ready to apply the tension, to raise the brackets up in place, or in position, you place on the included tool and then you just start rotating this and you're going to rotate it all the way, until that pin re engages back into a locked position. It's a unique design. Very quick and simple to use. To release the bracket, all you got to do is pull the lock pin right here and rotate it back down to disengage the chains. These are a clamp on design, so that means that there's no drilling needed and they're very low profile, so that way they won't interfere with your frame mounted accessories. When it comes to the head assembly, one of the really neat features about Blue Ox Sway Pro, is that the required tilt and pitch of the head assembly is built in. You need to make any adjustments. All you have to do is find the right placement along the adjustable shank, to achieve the proper height for your set up. There's no additional fine tune adjustments needed, which means that there's no more hard to access washers, thumb screws, cams, or shim packs to worry about. The required tilt and pitch is already built into the head assembly and you won't have to worry about that. The unit is made from a steel construction. It's going to have a really nice powder coated finish on it. It's got a hammered texture to it. It's going to last a long time. It's going to look great for a long time. It's going to do an awesome job at resisting rusting and corrosion. The system includes everything that you see here on the table. You're also going to get a detailed set of installation instructions and an owner's manual, which has some really neat tips in there about how to use and how to effectively maintain and take care of the system. Again it includes everything that you see here on the table. You're going to get some hardware right here. These are for the lift brackets. Again no drill, it's clamp on design. You're going to have the longer screws, or set screws, or bolts for maybe thinner, or more narrow trailer frames. Then you're going to have the shorter bolts for thicker, or wider trailer frames. You're going to have the jam nuts that you would install on those, to make sure that those don't back out and disengage. They go right here in the lift bracket, in that threaded area and just clamp onto the trailer frame that way. You're going to get the hitch pin and clip to secure the unit to your hitch. Then you're also going to get this reducer sleeve. Now this unit does come with a hitch ball. That's the only thing that's needed that it really doesn't come with. This hole right here is going to give us a diameter of an inch and quarter. The shank of the hitch ball that you would choose, ideal would have a diameter of an inch and a quarter, or if you find one, or have one that has a diameter of an inch, that's fine too. You'll just have to use this reducer sleeve, which reduces that opening from an inch and quarter down to one inch. Again the tongue weight rating is 550 pounds to 750 pounds. The gross weight rating is 7,500 pounds. The unit is designed to fit inside of a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver that's rated for use with weight distribution systems. When it comes to positioning your lift brackets, these are going to mount about 29 inches, back from the trailer hitch ball along the trailer frame. It gives you an idea of the placement of the lift brackets on your trailer frame. These are going to fit trailer frame widths up to two and half inches and then they only take up about four inches along the trailer frame and again a low profile, so it's not going to interfere with frame mounted accessories. I want to talk about the adjustable shank on this unit. It's nice large design. This one actually contains 11 holes, when it comes to the adjustment holes. Then the head assembly is held there with the supplied hardware. Just two bolts and then washers and that's on the other side, but it's got 11 holes to choose from. When it comes to having a weight distribution system that can adjust a lot, this is going to be a great option for you. When it comes to the shank length measuring from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the front of the actual shank, that's going to give a measurement of 11 inches, from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the center of the adjustment holes. we're looking at 10 inches. Then from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the back of the upright bar, we're looking at nine inches. Again 11 hole adjustment. Those adjustment holes are going to be separated from one another on center by an inch and a quarter. With it in the rise position, if we have the assembly at the highest setting, it's going to give a maximum rise of 13 inches, measuring from the top of the shank, to the top of the ball platform. If we flip this over to the drop position and have the assembly at the lowest setting, it's going to give us a maximum drop of seven and half inches, from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. Really nice design, solid steel and again it's get that powdered coat finish on it, which is going to do great at resisting rust and corrosion. Again it's going to come with all that you need to get it installed. You will need to pick up a hitch ball though. If you're in need of that, you can find them right here at etrailer.com. This product is made right here in the USA and it's going to be covered with limited life time warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the Blue Ox Sway Pro weight distribution system with sway control.

This is a wonderful product. We pulled a 25 travel trailer on a long trip last year and I didnt have to worry about any sway on any road. The Blue Ox handles cross winds easy also. Very easy to use, I wouldnt buy anything else!

We have a 24' travel trailer pulled by a Suburban. This hitch levels everything out and makes handling much easier. Very little sway, only during windy storms and the suburban is much easier to drive. This hitch is also easy to set up (we were lucky to have a local store install it) and very well built. Etrailer delivered it fast, no damage and had the best price by far. 524533

Great hitch. Weve taken 3 trips to other states and have even had a tire blow out and this hitch is so good, I almost forget the trailer is there.

I have had the Blue Ox 2,000 lbs WD hitch for a little over 1 year. My previous WD hitch was under capacity based on the tongue weight of my 37 ft travel trailer. This hitch has greatly improved the pulling stability of my trailer over the previous set-up. It has exceeded my expectations. 451573

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Finally got around to installing the Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch with bolt on chain latches. The process was straight forward after viewing youtube vids, taking time to be sure all my measurements were correct. With the bolt on chain latches you do not get many chances to get it right. I could not use clamp on as my V-nose RV did not have room above the frame to clear the clamp on latch.. drilling was a pain as clearances on my frame were tight and I had to go around a electrical junction box on the inside of the frame.. but once on, it was a breeze to set up. The overall quality of the hitch was great and I don't miss having to set the angle of the hitch head (it's fixed) making the only adjustments necessary was hitch height and chain length. I initially set mine up using 9 links on the chain, but once I got out on the road, I noted the RV was riding nose low so I went up to 10 links on the chain. Now the truck and RV are level, the truck rides and handles as I expected. I have not had the rig out on a long haul, so I can't comment about the sway control of the hitch.Truck is a 2013 Ford F150 ecoboost, max tow 3.73 gears, rv is a 6600lb (empty) V-nose 25ft toy hauler. I like the chain latch set up. Easy to use especially on a V-nose trailer. The concept of sway control with the short length chain is feasible and after this week trip (with some interstate time), I will report back if it doesn't work as advertised. All in all I am happy with the hitch and of course happy with the eTrailer purchasing process. 102170

A year later and we have used this hitch many, many times and couldnt be happier with the purschase. Hook up is a breeze. Have had the chance on several occasions to get on the Interstate with the big trucks and wind and the sway control works. I am very pleased with the hitch. Thanks Blue Ox and eTrailer!

This weight distribution system is the best. It is easy to install and if you need to put it on a different trailer that has a different weight you just have to buy new distribution bars. 78458

This system works great. Needs to have a better system to lock in the parts that go on your trailer rails. Sometime they come loose.

Bought the Sway Pro to replace a hitch that had separate sway control. The Blue Ox works better on the road as trucks pass us and I really like backing up without loosening the sway friction. This Blue Ox WDH does not come with a ball. Had to have U-Haul tighten the 50mm nut on the 2 5/16” ball. Odd torque value for the hitch bolts too? Etrailer matched the prices and delivered in TWO days! 447330

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Have used the SwayPro for 1 year now and overall very satisfied. I tow a 23' Airstream which weighs about 5500 lbs. The receiver hitch mount that comes with the SwayPro was unable to get the ball low enough as instructed in the Install Instructions so I gave Blue Ox a call and they immediately shipped out the one I needed and I shipped them the original. The BO SwayPro is fairly easy to operated and is quiet. I will say that it does not eliminate sway, I have tried several different adjustments but anytime I drive above 65mph, especially in headwinds or gusty conditions, sway is possible. The sway is manageable by slowing and never gets too bad but it will make you grip the steering wheel tighter. I was not surprised by this, just had a hard time shelling out the $2500 needed for the non-swaying hitches. 407456

Comments
The Blue Ox is performing fine, it does not eliminate sway but as long as I drive 65 mph or less, sway is rarely an issue. As you go over 65 sway can happen with adverse winds, semis passing, or poor road conditions. One other nuisance, is when I attempt to disconnect the chain on the right side, the chain sometimes gets wedged in the metal channel that you rotate and will not release. Usually I have to spray the area with a lubricant and then rotate the whole “chain engaging device” back and forth and the chain will become unstuck so that I can get the bar off. All else is fine, sometimes I do wish I had bought the Pro Pride but that seems a bit too complicated, heavy and expensive.

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. No regrets as this hitch has been an easy to setup and use and it seems to do it's job nicely. Due to the height of our trailer's hitch I ordered a Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank to use with the SwayPro and the pair work great together. 135639

Have only used it to drive 15 miles from my trailer dealer to home, but I think I'm going to like this WDH. It seems to do the job, is relatively easy to use. The dealer I bought my trailer from mounted it for me, they'd done many before so it went quickly. Some hints I'd learned from them and discussion forums - use the trailer jack to lift the front of the trailer/back of the truck to make it easier and safer to install or remove the chains. Use a long breaker bar with a 1" socket for the same reason - the extra leverage over that with the tool supplied with the hitch helps. I painted the chain link on each side that the dealer hooked to so I could get the tension back the way they had it. Will have to see how that works out in the long run, may have to adjust up or down. FWIW, I measured the distance from the ground to the top of the front and rear fender wells on my truck before and after hooking up the trailer with the BO Sway Pro. The front ended up exactly where it was before, the rear dropped only one inch with 1000 lbs of hitch weight. I'd say the WDH is doing its job! 462535

Comments
Ive replaced the 1 socket with a 26mm socket, as it fits better. Only snag we are running into is that the u-bolts that hold the chains to the arms are being bent and worn down from occasional ground scrapes. Ive purchased a pair of the little u-bolts and four self locking nuts from e-trailer, so Ill be prepared if they ever do rub or break off completely.

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

I have both an Equalizer and this Blue Ox hitch. I purchased the Blue Ox after I complained of a poor ride with my travel trailer to the dealer. They recommended Blue Ox instead. Frankly it didn't improve the ride at all. Worse, the bars hung so low that they scraped on every speed bump. However this was exacerbated by the way I had to set it up to make the ride at least tolerable. I have now changed travel trailers and tried both hitches on the new one. The new travel trailer sits significantly higher and rides much better. I don't have the problem of the bars hitting the ground. The ride also seems much better then when I use the Equalizer. The final problem I have with this hitch is the that saddle that holds the chains seems to stick very frequently and requires that I release the pin and force it to release the chain with the provided wrench - resulting in frequent minor injuries. Not sure why this happens but I'm getting better at forcing the release with no injuries. Just irritating. 289769

I had the unfortunate experience with having your new airstream 20' taken out by a hydroplaning car last month. The airstream rolled right and on to its side, and the hitch released keeping our Suburban from rolling. The stabilizer bars and chains maintained the trailer connection and eased the stop with the rear tires of ground. The hitch bent the receiver on the truck, and the only damage appeared to be one " sprung" spring bar. A good result from a bad experience! 237404

The BEST Purchase I've made thus far!! Once I installed the new hitch system I can honestly say it made a 100% difference! I have a Mercedes ML500 and I pull a 17' Forest River Wildwood X-lite travel trailer. There is no more sag in the middle, both tow vehicle and trailer are level driving down the road and my SUV handles almost as if there is no trailer on the back! I HIGHLY Reccomend the "Blue Ox" System! It's the best! 513835

Still The BEST Purchase Ive made thus far for my trailer! Now that I have used it multiple times, I can say its a life saver in so many ways. My tow vehicle is stable on the road, breaking, maneuvering, the weight distribution has been key for me with a smaller set up and the Blue Ox continues to deliver. I Still HIGHLY Recommend the Blue Ox System to everyone!!

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

After purchasing/pulling my my 32’ weekend warrior with the supplied sway control, I was terrified by the amount of sway I was experiencing after fully loading with the toys. This Blue Ox tamed the beast 99%. Be mindful on how you distribute your load weight when overstuffing your toy hauler and you’ll have zero issues. Great product!! 716511

Ask the Experts about this Blue Ox Weight Distribution

  • Recommended Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution for Towing a GVWR 7,475 Trailer with a 2017 Ram 2500
When determining what rise/drop you need for a towing setup you just take the height from the ground to top of the inside of the receiver on your tow vehicle and then from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler (when it is level). In your case it sounds like you need a drop of 3-1/2" with a max of 5-1/2" if you were just measuring to the top of your trailer coupler. The Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW0756 you referenced actually has a max drop of 7" so it would allow your towing setup...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution for 2016 Toyota 4Runner and Flagstaff Travel Trailer
I can help you get a easy to use weight distribution for your 2016 Toyota 4Runner and Flagstaff Travel Trailer. To choose the right weight distribution it will be based on loaded tongue weight which is typically between 10-15% of the trailer gross weight and anything in addition to that loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. With a weight of 5,350lbs max this can be anywhere from 418-802lbs of tongue weight. I have linked a Help Article on how to determine your loaded tongue...

  • Difference Between Blue Ox Weight Distribution Systems # BXW0756 and # BXW0751
Both of the Blue Ox weight distribution systems part # BXW0756 and # BXW0751 are compatible with surge brake trailers. The difference between the two is the bracket style like you mentioned. The clamp on is going to be much easier and less invasive to install but the bolt on is more universal. The bracket has several bolt holes that allow the bolts to be ran through in varying positions to allow for more flexibility. However, the bolt on is no longer available.

  • Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 700 lb Tongue Weight
If you have a Blue Ox weight distribution system rated for up to 1,500 lb tongue weight and your actual tongue weight is 700 lbs you are most likely going to have a harsh ride quality. Keep in mind that the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the truck needs to count as tongue weight too. A better rated system for you would be the part # BXW1003 which has a tongue weight range of 750-1,000 lbs. For a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball to use with this we have the part # 19286 also.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Towing an R-Pod 172
Since you will be adding the 100 lbs behind the rear axle of your 2002 Ford Expedition it really boils down to how much tongue weight your R-Pod 172 will have when it is fully loaded. If you are at the lower end then the Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW0556 with the max tongue weight of 550 lbs is the weight distribution (WD) system you want to go with. If your loaded tongue weight is on the higher end the SwayPro # BXW0756 with the minimum tongue weight of 550 lbs is the better option. For something...

  • Blue Ox Weigth Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 550 lb Tongue Weight
If your trailer has a swing away hinge you won't be able to use a weight distribution system with it. I am not totally sure if that's what you meant but I figured I'd mention that. When picking out a weight distribution system the tongue weight has to fall into the range of the system. If your loaded tongue weight is 550 lbs you'd need a lower rated system than the # BXW1000 that you referenced. Instead you'd want the Blue Ox part # BXW0756 which has a range that's between 550 and 750....

  • Recommended WD System for Towing a 4,300 lb Jayco Trailer with a 2012 Nissan Frontier
When looking at a Weight Distribution (WD) system you will want to choose one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2012 Nissan Frontier. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer. If...

  • Adding Weight Carried Behind Tow Vehicle Rear Axle to Tongue Weight for Weight Distribution System
When you measure tongue weight you are measuring the downward pressure that is put on trailer hitch and, ultimately, your vehicle's chassis. A weight distribution system helps to evenly distribute the weight between the front and rear axles. To pick a weight distribution (WD) system, you will need to know how much weight is behind the rear axle so that you can pick a WD system that can handle all of that weight. For example, let's say that you have measured your tongue weight and it...
