Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

This system worked out pretty well for me. Initially, I had it installed and adjusted by the RV dealer. However when I changed vehicles, I was able to make the adjustments myself with the easy to follow video on this site. Having had an Equalizer before, I would probably buy this style again because I personally think it's easier to put on and remove. I 316915

Great product easy to install except I had difficulty determining whether or not both conical washers went on the top bolt; I just assumed another had to go on the bottom but the picture clearly shows both go on the top bolt. Once I figured that out the rest of the installation went without a hitch; no pun intended. The video I viewed a couple of days before helped immensely with the installation. Great price and tremendous free/fast delivery via UPS. Have ordered other products and each time no problem even with a return on one of them. Thank you E-trailer! 161426

Review from a similar RB3 in Weight Distribution Hitch

I have a 2011 Dodge Nitro 4.0 liter compact SUV, which I am using to tow our Mighty Lite travel trailer. I needed a good weight dist. hitch to accomplish handling the 3850 GVWR of the trailer. This system brought up the towing capacity of our Nitro to 5000 lbs., and installs much easier than I expected! We had no sway problems during our 2 journeys with this system so far, even with the high winds we encounter up in the CA. high desert area where we live. My one complaint would be the heavy weight of the solid steel shank which will make you grunt when lugging it out from the shank, but since this hitch is rated up to 10,000 lbs. I guess that is to be expected! Otherwise, My I am VERY happy with the durability of this product, and the price was great. 228819

The hitch is doing great! Another nice thing about it are the grease fittings provided on the springbar sockets, allowing for quick lubrication of the springbars while hitch is installed. Great price for a great product!

Review from a similar RB3 in Weight Distribution Hitch

This system was used with a RAV4 and a 14 foot tow behind camper. I would give 5 stars regarding the system's intended performance for weight distribution. My one reservation related to the requirement to jack the tongue up so high in order to reach the desired chain link. With one less link we experienced times when the lower end of the arms/U bolts dragged when going over things like speed bumps. 312908

Hitch works better than I expected. It arrived on time and in perfect shape. If I had a complaint, it would be that the instructions are a little vague and the list of needed tools is wrong. I happen to have the experience and tools to interpret the instructions and install it correctly, but first timers should really have it professionally installed. It's a safety thing. 285660

Great WD hitch - Great price- Prompt Shipping. Instructions were easy to follow, worked perfectly the first time. Night and day Towing experience. 2003 Suburban towing 21' keystone Hideout 3750 lbs, with tw of 600lbs the truck has soft OEM spring set up, and sits low already. First added air shocks to get rid of the sag, but the addition of the WD hitch made all the difference, before WD had to run 140lbs of pressure just to maintain ride height, now I only run 40lbs in shocks now and she sits perfect, not to mention Steering is normal and all the jerky pushing and pulling is gone its nice and smooth now. 185252

Review from a similar RB3 in Weight Distribution Hitch

Can't speak highly enough of eTrailer.com's customer service. I had accidentally ordered the incorrect product spec for my setup (2015 F150 towing a 8.5x20 ATC toy hauler) and they were able to get me the correct product within the same week and provided an easy process for returning the incorrect hitch. Regarding the hitch itself, installation was a breeze, though I had to get a couple new tools due to the standard sizing of the nuts bolts, rather than metric. It would be very helpful if the instructions posted online would have a required tool listing with specific sizes required so you can be prepared ahead of time. After installing the hitch and taking initial measurements, it was very easy to fine-tune to get the setup perfect. Before installing the hitch, my truck would sit nearly 1.5 inches higher up front and 3 inches lower in the back with the trailer hooked up compared to stock, with very light steering feel when going down the road. With the hitch installed and dialed in, the front sits back at the stock height and only 1.75 inches lower in the rear, creating an essentially flat ride profile, and the trailer itself is perfectly level. Riding down the road the difference in feel is amazing. Much better steering response without the "light" feeling, tracks much more planted when going down the highway, and bumps and undulations in the road surface are absorbed much more smoothly now that both the truck and the trailer are sharing the workload. 322233

Review from a similar RB3 in Weight Distribution Hitch

This is the second Pro Series weight distribution hitch that I have bought from etrailer. I've used the first one for the last three years with my vintage travel trailer. As a woman who camps on her own, set up is easy and it does what it's meant to do. (Just make sure that you are on level ground and that someone shows you the correct position to insert the bar into the hitch head, otherwise it can be a bit frustrating.) I recently bought a new travel trailer for a more comfortable camping experience. I purchase a second new Pro Series so that each trailer can have their own ball and shank set-up on the head. I highly recommend the product. 757108

  • Weight Distribution for a Rockwood Roo 233S with Dry Tongue Weight of 585 Pounds
When choosing a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Based on the information you have provided the trailer will weigh 6,205 pounds if loaded to capacity. This could make the tongue weight of just the trailer between 585 and 930 pounds (up to 15 percent of...

The widest range is 600 to 1,200 pounds. There is also an 800 to 1,500 pound system. Considering that you can potentially have 1,500 pounds tongue weight you will need a system that goes at least that high.
