Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

I have ordered several items, including the round bar weight distribution kit, in three separate shipments over the past several weeks. Every item was of excellent quality, exactly as advertised, installed easily according to the convenient video instructions, and worked perfectly. I found etrailer's prices to be the best in every case, and the free shiping on my orders made them an even better bargain. Each of the shipments arrived as scheduled, and were in excellent condition. I have no doubt that I'll search etrailer first when shopping for trailer and towing accessories in the future. 23542

We received the product in record time! We had our local mechanic install the weight distribution hitch in no time (I didn't have the proper tools). If I had the proper tools I'm sure that I could have installed the hitch - especially with the extremely helpful tutorial videos on this site. We are now on our way across the country on a 1 month long road trip. Thanks etrailer! 20995

The weight distribution hitch was exactly what I was looking for, and at a price lower than I expected. Plus, the shipping was free! Not only that, but I ordered it on a Sunday, and chose the free ground delivery, and it was shipped the same day with a 3-5 day shipping upgrade at no additional cost. It was at my door on Wednesday. You can't beat that! I would definitely recommend etrailer to anyone. Great company. 20495

This hitch was exactly as discussed with, I believe, Matt. It actually shipped and was receive just as Matt had promised. Matt really helped me out A LOT in a tight situation. He went above and beyond to actually go to the warehouse and get me measurements from the hitch and actually followed through with returning a phone call that he said he would. Locally, I tried U-Haul and they were pretty well useless and did not even seem to care about helping a custome. I do plan on using ETrailer again in the future. Thank you Matt for all your help 10831

Hi,Would you recommend the Pro Series Weight Distribution 49569 for a 2004 Surveyor Travel Trailer - 3680lb dry weight325lb dry tw, or should I go with something beefier? Being pulled with a 2008 Tundra DC 4x4 with factory tow set-up.There will be occassions where a quad will be hauled in the box of the truck.

2700

That will depend on what the loaded weight of the trailer comes out to, but I can explain how to figure out what weight range you should select. Look at tongue weight first. Add up the loaded tongue weight of the trailer AND the weight of anything in the bed of the truck behind the axle. That is your tongue weight total. Select a system has at least as much, if not more, tongue capacity than your total tongue weight. If the WD system lists a tongue weight range, you want your total tongue weight to fall in the middle of that range. Of course the gross towing capacity needs to cover your total trailer weight. With the loaded trailer and the quad, I imagine the 800 would be close and it may be better to look at a 1,000 pound tongue weight system.

Review from a similar RB2 in Weight Distribution Hitch

It does what it's supposed to and took maybe 20 min to put together once I got all the sockets and wrenches I needed. Word to the wise -- the large nuts and bolts for this are a size 1 1/8" (buy one socket and one wrench at that size) and if you purchase the 10,000lb ball (40090), you'll need a large adjustable wrench and a 1 7/8" socket. I've towed with and without this hitch and it made a very large difference on the weight on the rear end. 541794

The weight distribution bars did not work for me. The bolts that are supposed to secure the snap-up brackets onto the trailer would not stay secured. With further tightening if the bolts, the brackets bent and deformed. The hitch itself, without bars works fine. 335404

Review from a similar RB2 in Weight Distribution Hitch

Used this for my 2013 Jayco Jayfeather camper. It's only a 17ft camper but had more tounge weight than I expected. Towing it with a 2012 Tacoma. It towed it decent before the weight dist hitch but when the truck and camper are all loaded, the truck had a pretty good lean to it and the steering wheel got a bit "light" at highway speeds. Now with the hitch its a lot better. Very glad I purchased this hitch. 271616

Review from a similar RB2 in Weight Distribution Hitch

The hitch was easy and straightforward to install. I have not used it yet, but it has leveled my Grand Caravan's suspension. The only glitch was the shim. It was too thin and, since I did not have time to order an additional one, I killed about an hour finding a piece of scrap and making a thicker one. 193797

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 350 lb Tongue Weight
If the weight of the trailer is more than 50 percent of the weight of the tow vehicle then a weight distribution system is needed. Since your vehicle most likely does not weigh more than 6,000 lbs you'd want to use a WD system. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article...

Thanks for the photo, and to answer your question, yes, you can use a longer shank than the 12-1/2" that came with your Pro Series # 49570 weight distribution hitch. The longest available that will work for you is the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4500 which is 18" long and has a maximum 7" rise or 3" drop, which is in line with the amount of rise and drop your Pro Series offers. The Equal-i-zer shank works with tongue weights between 600 lbs and 1,400 lbs so there is not going...

  • Replacement Ramp Hinges for Enclosed Trailer
If your trailer is brand new and recently purchased ideally you would return to the dealer to have the ramp corrected. The amount of misalignment you describe seems excessive for a brand new trailer. If the trailer is parked on uneven ground the ramp may tend to lean to the low side; this happens just from the weight of the ramp twisting the hinge. If the ramp leans over even on flat ground then there may be damage to the hinges that secure it to the trailer structure or the ramp itself...

  • Weight Distribution Hitch for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Towing 6000-lb Boat Trailer
Thank you for the details about your loaded boat trailer's tongue weight. To match this 710-lb loaded TW and to allow you to back up the trailer I recommend the Equal-I-zer 4-Point system # EQ37100ET which works for a TW range from 600 to 1000-lbs. This setup comes complete with a shank and 2-5/16-inch hitch ball. I recommend a thin-wall socket like # ALL643216 for an easier time when installing the hitch ball. • Can a 2015 Kia Sedona Safely Tow a 3,700 Pound Jayco Travel Trailer
What I recommend is a trailer that has a gross trailer weight that meets or is under the towing capacity of your 2015 Kia Sedona which is 3,500 pounds as long as the trailer has brakes. You can tow a trailer rated higher provided that the actual weight of the trailer does not exceed that 3,500 pound tow vehicle capacity. So they aren't lying about that but you do run the risk of overloading the tow vehicle by going with a heavier trailer. You will likely need suspension enhancement...

With more passengers the trailer capacity goes down; you can see this on page 275 of the manual.
