Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Review from a similar Short-Arm in Weight Distribution Hitch

This weight distribution system and sway bar made a world of difference hauling heavy loads in my Big Tex 7'x14' dump trailer. We have hauled many heavy loads long distances through the curvy Mountain roads of central Oregon. Definitely levels my F250 4x4 pickup/Big Tex-7'x14' dump trailer combination and prevents the scary sway that we experienced on our first trip. We found that even the occasional high winds we experienced on two trips did not create a problem. The peace of mind and safety for us was/is worth every penny of the very reasonable purchase price. I was unable to use the standard chain hangers that came with the distribution system because of the battery and pump box location. The optional bolt on chain hangers worked great for me.

We're a first time travel trailer owners. I purchased the CURT weight distribution hitch. It's heavy duty and easy to assemble. Then I purchased the Draw-tite electronic brake control with a Tekonsha wire harness for my truck. After watching you tube to see how to find the brake control cable on my truck and assemble the electronic brake control it all works perfectly.

I have a 2016 F150 4x4 that I leveled and I'm pulling a V-nose enclosed car trailer. The shank that came with the hitch won't allow me to level the trailer. So I ordered a 12 inch drop shank to allow me to level the trailer. I thought the one came with it would work . I will give further review once I receive the new shank.

Review from a similar Short-Arm in Weight Distribution Hitch

This is a serious hitch if you are needing one that allows for up to1,500lb.tongue weight. The build quality is very good and it fits our trailer which due to the V- Nose has limited space for the traditional longer trunnion spring arms. We also like the spacers that are used to position the head for placement of the spring arms. Unlike the head locks on most hitches, there is absolutely no way for this to slip or move after it is adjusted. We have no doubts that we will get years of service from it. Thank you etrailer.com!

Comments
That hitch has been great! Our approximate 7,000lb., 27 ft. enclosed race car hauling trailer, is now very stable. With the bars and hitch we were using, which were much to small, it was a real handful, now you hardly know it is back there!Great piece of equipment!

Exactly what I needed for my new travel trailer. Needed a hitch to support almost 1400lbs tongue weight, this fit the bill. Package was a little damaged, but its hard to hurt a hitch, nothing was damaged. Curt install video is the first thing that comes up on youtube. Description says "short arm" model, but it looks pretty standard to me, about the same size as my old Reese hitch. etrailer is amazing, shipping was free, and it arrived to me in 4 days!

Review from a similar Short-Arm in Weight Distribution Hitch

I had a fastway e2 trunnion 12k pound hitch and hated it. It was great if you didnt need much pressure on the bars and always hooked up while on flat even ground. Most times I had to use a 3 foot prybar to get the weight transfer bars off the trailer and a 3 foot cheater bar to get the bars on!!! This 15k pound hitch from curt is great!!!! The welds could be better (pretty picky I'm a fabricator by trade) but nothing beats this style hitch. It may take an extra step if you want the friction brake but it is worth it. I run 2 friction brakes as I have a 38ft travel trailer and is pretty much a giant sail. The trunnion hitch couldn't handle that camper in the wind and there wasnt a way to adjust the bars for a windy day. but this hitch with 2 brakes works great. Dont always need 2 brakes but I like the option for when its windy out and we have a 2 hour drive on the expressway!!!

Review from a similar Short-Arm in Weight Distribution Hitch

I had an L shaped weight distribution hitch before I bought this Curt model from E trailer. If you the coop ape the two the older one wS easier to operate. The Pins that lock the chain brackets in please are difficult to remove and adding wd40 does not help also this new one seems to be lower to the ground,, making me bend over and sometimes or even get to my knees to hook it up .My wife used to be able to help me with the older one the new one she is not able so I do both sides myself . Also the part that connects to the truck you need to hold it sideways then flip the the release up and maneuver it he top 2 tabs into place , lot more work than the L shaped one I had. It’s ok otherwise.

Ridiculously fast shipping and a perfect price! Arrived in good condition. Installation instruction were simple to follow. The actual product information from CURT as to the specific dimension as an overall unit (i.e. mechanical drawing) would be helpful to determine if the product works correctly for your trailer. Enough was provided that I took a chance but we did have to raise my AC unit on the front of my trailer 2.5" and move one of it's support bars back in order to install the weight distribution system. Not at all any fault or any concern of Etrailer, but just wanted to share this note in case other have a propane rack or something else on their tongue.

This is an outstanding weight distribution system. I am fully pleased with it. I use it for towing my 2016 Grand Design 327RLTS. The tongue weight is rated at 1150lbs. I am certain it's closer to 1450lbs, but for this system it's no problem at all. I have no complaints and for the price it was the best buy on the web. Thanks.
