Pro Tip: Before you invest in a weight distribution hitch, make sure your cargo is evenly loaded in your trailer to keep the weight balanced. If you still have a hard time even after balancing your tongue weight, a weight distribution hitch should help.

Positive Caster Makes for a Smoother Towing and Installation Experience

Blue Ox TrackPro Positive Caster

When you turn a corner in a car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically corrects itself and returns to center. The same technology used to keep your vehicle centered on the road is what the TrackPro uses to prevent trailer sway before it even starts, no matter if it's caused by high winds or sharp turns. Pointing toward the rear of your trailer, there's a positive caster angle built into the hitch. It works in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force that keeps your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle.

This positive caster creates another benefit - an easier installation. Since the required pitch is alredy pre-set, there's no need to fine-tune it using hard-to-access washers or a difficult-to-use thumbscrew. The only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height.

Steel-on-Steel Friction Corrects Sway

Blue Ox TrackPro Steel-on-Steel Friction

If you need an option built with American-made steel that will hold your trailer in line while providing sway control, the Blue Ox TrackPro might be just what you're after. In addition to the pre-set pitch described earlier, the TrackPro creates a rigid system that holds your trailer in line behind your vehicle, helping keep your trailer from getting off track. And it uses friction to force your trailer back in line if a strong crosswind or passing truck is a bit too much for the rigid hold to handle on its own.

A close-up image shows where the spring bar grinds on the steel bracket

Because the steel-on-steel friction of the bars and L-brackets is noisy, don't be alarmed if you hear some banging, creaking, and grinding. It's just the system working to correct sway.

Fun Fact: Steel-on-steel friction is what locomotives use to keep multi-ton railcars from swaying.

Why Use a Weight Distribution Hitch?

Diagram showing weight distribution on a truck and towing a camper

  • Prevents uneven tire wear on your vehicle and trailer
  • Keeps the rear of your tow vehicle from sagging
  • Lets you tow to the max capacity of your trailer hitch
  • Stops your headlights from pointing up at the sky
  • Gives you control over steering your rig

Selecting the Right Weight Distribution System

  • Think "Goldilocks"
    • If you go for overbuilt, you'll have a rigid ride
    • If it's not strong enough, it's virtually useless
  • Let your tongue weight be your guide

Your tongue weight is the first thing you need to know when figuring out which weight distribution system you need. Most people think that if they get the highest-rated system possible, it'll be smooth sailing. But actually, this will create a rigid ride and a bouncing trailer. On the other hand, if the system isn't strong enough, it won't be able to distribute the weight properly, making it virtually useless.

Once you know your trailer's tongue weight, add it to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Then just choose a weight distribution system rated for that combined tongue weight.

  • Replacement for Older Draw-Tite V5 Weight Distribution System
That's the old Draw-Tite V5 weight distribution system which has been discontinued so we'll need to look at a new weight distribution system to replace your damaged one. For this I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro which comes in the following weight ratings: - 6K # BLU36FR - 8K # BLU23FR - 10K # BLU77FR I like these options because they use a trunnion bar setup which is an upgrade to your round bar and friction sway bar setup. It's less connections you have to make and gives you more...

  • Which Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution for 2022 Grand Design Imagine XLS 22RBE
Based on the unloaded tongue weight you mentioned the Blue Ox TrackPro weight distribution system you'd want is the part # BLU23FR which has a tongue weight range of 600-800 lbs instead. The part number you referenced would be rated too high which would cause a rougher ride quality.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For 2022 Jayco Jayflight with 665lbs Tongue Weight
I'd be happy to help! First off as long as that 665 tongue weight is a figure you came up with from measuring the tongue weight of your 2022 Jayco Jayflight, then we can use that figure. If you got that number from the factory it's not right, as it does not account for propane, or batteries which dealers install. If you didn't measure your tongue weight use the below article as a guide to do this. Second your trailer has an underslung coupler (Jayco is the main manufacturer to use these)...

  • Can a Weight Distribution System be Used on a V-Nose Trailer With 22 Inches of Useable A-Frame?
If you are getting sway issues, I can definitely recommend the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000. But from the picture and measurements provided, it does not look like we will have a weight distribution option available. I would usually suggest a Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System, like the # C17332, but the arms on this, though shorter than typical systems, are still going to be too long.

  • Do I Need A Special Weight Distribution Hitch For A Jayco Camper With An Underslung Coupler?
Hello Jason. Yes, you do need a different model of weight distribution hitch for an underslung coupler. For your Jayco Jayflight SLX8 237RBS I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/Sway Control # BLU23FR. This system is made specifically for underslung couplers. The difference between this system and the overslung system is the design of the head unit. More specifically the angle of the spring bars holders. The underslung bars are at a slightly lesser angle to compensate...

  • Should Weight Distribution and Sway Control be Used for 6,000 lb GVWR Travel Trailer
When in doubt, go with your gut. In this case your gut is 100% correct - you'll have a nice cushion in margin when it comes to maxing out your 2019 Dodge Durango, but you'll want a weight distribution system to help level out your towing rig and the sway control will do wonders for highway traveling especially when it comes to crosswinds and when larger vehicles pass you. For your application I recommend checking out the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/Sway Control # BLU23FR which...
