SUP Pup Fit

The SupPup makes it easy for you to carry 1 or 2 stand-up paddleboards fin side up on your vehicle's roof rack. This padded, aluminum carrier includes integrated, adjustable straps and a tail tie-down to secure your boards. The carrier is made of lightweight yet sturdy extruded aluminum with a silver powder coat finish and black plastic endcaps that resist corrosion, so the SupPup can handle long days at the beach. And the SupPup mounts to most crossbars without tools.

Built-In Straps and Tie-Down Anchor

SupPup Integrated Strap

The carrier has integrated straps that adjust along built-in tracks to snugly secure your boards.

SupPup Padding

The straps can be tightened or loosened with spring-loaded cam buckles on the bottom of the carrier. Elastomer pads on the straps help grip your boards, and they protect your board rails against strap abrasion. The polypropylene straps and UV-resistant pads will hold up for many sun-soaked days. And built-in slots in the carrier contain excess strap length to prevent flapping as you drive. Flexible elastomer along the top of each arm cushions your SUP and helps hold it in place. This synthetic rubber also prevents your boards from being scratched while in the carrier.

SupPup Tie-Down

The included tie-down strap acts as an anchor, securing your SUP to your vehicle. This strap connects to a tie-down point on the tail of your board and hooks to your bumper. If you are carrying 2 boards, secure this strap to the bottom board. A cam buckle lets you adjust the tension so you can secure your board without damaging it. A flexible elastomer sleeve along the tie-down strap also protects your bumper from abrasions.

Simple, Clamp-On Installation

SupPup Clamp On

Clamp-on mounting brackets fit most crossbar configurations and install easily with no tools. Simply adjust the lower jaws to accommodate the height of your crossbars and position the clamps around your bars. Then tighten the clamps down with hand knobs.

Video Transcript for Yakima SupPup Stand Up Paddleboard Carrier Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Yakima SUPPup two paddle board carrier, part number Y04078. The Yakima SUPPup paddle board carrier is the perfect solution for carrying your two paddle boards on the roof of your vehicle safely. Two integrated straps hold our boards in place. They come over the top and they cinch down within the carrier. The straps themselves feature synthetic rubber pads that help protect our board's finish. It also features a tie-down strap with a stainless steel hook so we can secure the tail of our board to our vehicle.

Now, I've gone ahead and removed the paddle boards so we can get a better look at the SUPPup carrier. When our straps are not being used we can simply tie them up within the carrier for storage. We'll just bring them up, down through the cinch and then tuck them away. The padding on the top of our carrier measures about 31" long. It's constructed of a soft UV resistant rubber, so it's going to protect our board's finish and provide good padding while we're on the road. The carriers themselves are constructed of a lightweight extrudable aluminum with a silver powder coat finish, so they're going to stand up to the elements and resist rust and corrosion.

It's universal design is going to allow it to work with most roof rack systems including your round, square, arrow, elliptical and most factory roof rack systems as well. We've got it on the Yakima round bars here and it fits nicely. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now if you'll turn over your paddle board carrier here and look on the back side of the clamps, you'll notice that there are three options for our clamps to work with. For our Yakima round bars here today, we're going to go with the highest setting up here, the first notch, so you can simply just unclip your bottom portion of the clamp and then put it back in, just like that. We can do that on this side as well.

Just pull it out and then back in. Now, we can go ahead and put it in the position on our roof rack system. It's important to make sure you have a minimum cross bar spread of 24". We've got about 28 here today. I've already got the rear one installed as you can see. It's nice and secure, so we'll make sure that our clamps are opened up.

We'll just center it around our bars. Bring those clamps back up around. Put our T-bolt through. Turn it to lock it in place. Then tighten it down. Now, before you tighten it all the way, you'll want to make sure that it's in line with the rear one, so we're just going to push it up just a tad. That looks about right. We can continue tightening that down. Once we get this side tightened down, we'll move on to the other side. All right, now with them both secure let's go ahead and get ready to load up our paddle boards. We'll come up and we'll find our little release button on this side here and pull our strap all the way up. We're just going to let it rest on the opposite side for now. Same thing here. Button is just right underneath. We push in on it. Now for our paddle boards. We've got two different sizes here today. It's important that we put the long one down first. We're just going to come up and then push it into place. We'll make sure that we have the weight evenly distributed from the front and back. We'll just work our way on. All right, that looks pretty good. Then we can grab our second one and put it on top. Now when I put this on, I'll make sure that it is all the way up as far as it'll go. I'll also make sure that it's even on both sides. I'd day that looks pretty good. Now let's run our straps over to the other side. Then we'll come over here and we'll tighten them down, but before we put them in the cinch, we're going to add a couple turns in the top of our strap and what this is going to do is it's going to prevent the slap on our straps as we're on the road. Once we get that done then we'll come on down through our cinch and pull it nice and tight. Once we have it in position we can adjust our pads as needed. Now with them both tightened down I'll adjust my pads on this side to fit my boards. Then finally with everything tightened down the only thing left to do is to clean up our excess strap. We'll just take it. We're going to curl it up and tuck it underneath the SUPPup paddle board carrier. Now we can secure the stern of our paddle board to the front of our vehicle. We'll take our included hardware. We're going to take the loop first. We're going to put it through our anchor point right there. We're going to bring it down and through the loop itself and pull it tight. Once we got a loop in there, we're going to take the cinch portion. We're going to bring that through. We'll put the cinch through the loop. Now we can grab our strap. We're going to grab the end that does not have the loop. We're going to run it through our cinch. We're not going to tighten it down all the way just yet. We'll come to the loop end and we're going to attach our hook like this. Then we're going to take it to the front of our vehicle, go underneath and attach it to a good solid anchor point. Then I'll come back up. I'll pull it nice and tight and I can adjust my pad as needed, as to where it needs to be on the vehicle. Then after that we can just tidy up our strap and then we're ready to hit the road. Now let's check it out on our test course and see how it holds up. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side-to-side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris or uneven pavement. Last of all the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage or driving in and out of the driveway. That's going to complete our look at the Yakima SUPPup standup paddle board carrier for two boards, part number Y04078.

  • Carrying 2 Stand Up Paddleboards on a 2015 Subaru Outback with Factory Roof Rack
Provided that the bags you use are form fitting (like yoga pants for the boards) then you will still be able to use the a SUP carrier. On your 2015 Subaru Outback I recommend the Yakima SupPup, # Y04078, which is listed as a fit for the factory roof rack. It holds 2 boards. I've attached a video for yo to take a look at.

  • SUP Carrier Recommendation for Carrying 2 Paddleboards
Basically on all of the board carriers that you referenced the 2 boards will stack on top of each other both facing down like the picture I attached. If you wanted to put something between the boards to minimize the contact between the boards I would recommend the part # RL100650 that is used for minimizing contact between the roof of a vehicle and a cargo bag. Running a strap on the top board would be sufficient. Any of the carriers you referenced would work well. Personally I like...

  • Can Yakima SupPup Stand Up Paddleboard Carrier Fit With Kayak Carrier on Roof of 2015 Acura MDX
With a few calculations and some help from my Yakima representative, we determined that if you used a Y04039 Yakima HullRaiser Kayak Carrier, and you have crossbars that are at least 58 inches long, you should have no problem carrying the kayak and the SUP at the same time. The SUP is about 36 inches wide, and the HullRaiser is 18 inches wide. If your current crossbars are shorter than 58 inches in length, we offer 58 inch crossbars as part # Y00409. The HullRaiser includes the straps to...

  • Yakima SupPup Carrier Strap Dimensions
I spoke to my contact at Yakima and he said that the SupPup part # Y04078 would have no problem carrying your two boards that are 31 inches wide and 5 inches tall. He did also tell me that the length of the straps are 58 inches. He said that if you took the strap out the ends of the carrier and then raised them all the way up so that the strap makes the biggest possible square shape the straps end up 12 inches from the top of the carrier.

Your Jeep Wrangler with its hard top gives you two options for paddleboard transport. One is VERY low in cost and simple to use. Yes, you can mount one of the clamps for the Yakima SupPup Stand-Up Paddleboard Carrier part # Y04078 outside of the Yakima TimberLine Towers. However, the Yakima SupPup is 36" wide and the Thule Pulse Large Rooftop Cargo Box part # TH615 is 33" wide so you would likely need the Yakima CoreBar Crossbars part # Y00423 in order to have room for both the Thule Pulse and Yakima SUP.
