Padded, Telescoping Saddles

Thule SUP Shuttle Saddle

The SUP Shuttle's saddles easily telescope up to 12" to accommodate boards up to 34" wide. Just slide them to the desired width. Closed cell injection molded foam padding on the base of the saddles protects your boards from scuffs and scratches. This padding is weather resistant.

Tie-Down Straps

Thule SUP Tie Downs

Two tie-downs are included to secure your boards to your roof rack crossbars. The straps have cam buckles that let you tighten the straps and secure your boat. Rubber buckle bumpers help prevent damage to your kayak or vehicle when you're using the straps, and strap sleeves help grip and protect the top of your board. A tie-down strap with a stainless steel hook lets you anchor the tail of your board to your vehicle's bumper.

FlipFit Brackets

Thule Flip Fit Bracket

These reversible, FlipFit brackets fit most crossbars. The top and bottom of these brackets are shaped differently so that you can choose the curved surface that best fits your crossbars. Built-in, pivoting pins allow you to rotate the brackets so that you can easily reverse the orientation beneath your crossbars. And adjustment knobs with built-in screws tighten down the brackets. To install a bracket, rotate it on one of the pivoting pins and line it up below your crossbar. Slide the other pin into a notch on the side of the bracket. Tighten down the knobs.

Video Transcript for Thule SUP Shuttle Stand Up Paddleboard Carrier Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Tulle SUP Shuttle. This is a stand up paddle board carrier with tie downs and it offers a two board capacity. Part number is TH811XT. One of the first things that really stand out about the SUP Shuttle is the telescoping feature that it has. At our narrowest setting where you see it now, from the top of the highest point on each of our pads we've got about 17 1/4 inches. Just by pulling out on each side, we're easily going to be able to telescope that out at any increment. There's no firm settings as we go so we can adjust it to whatever fine amount we need to. This is going to go out to 29, almost 29 1/2 inches in width. It's really going to help accommodate a wide variety of those paddle boards and maybe even if you've got it in this narrower setting, maybe more along the lines of a surfboard or something like that. Another thing that really stands out on the new SUP Shuttle are the flip fit brackets.

Now these brackets are going to fit just about every crossbar that there is on the market, whether it's like an arrow style or an elliptical, a square, a round. Even your factory crossbars, really not going to have an issues getting these things put into place. You see one side is going to slip right out while the other side stays fixed. This is going to allow you to bring it down and around your bars, fit it right back into place, get it adjusted where necessary and then we'll just be able to tighten this down. Now, big surprise, it fits a Tulle crossbar. Yeah. The real neat part about this is that the Tulle crossbars require that larger gap.

It's a little bit bigger than the one we've got here on the bottom. By simply rotating that bracket around, bringing it right back up, we're going to have this smaller opening located up here now so that we can fit it on let's say a square cross bar. Just going to loosen that bracket up a little bit, get it to adjust properly. Slide it right up and on and then we can tighten both of those down on a square crossbar, no problem. Just loosen these back up. Here on the round crossbar it's going to be a little bit thicker, so maybe we nee to switch over to our wider gap. We'll bring that on up and in.

Same deal. No tools required on our installation. We're just going to use the knobs here. Tighten these right down. It's really going to allow us to adjust the SUP Shuttle to fit just about any crossbar that's out there on the market. Today we're going to be installing it on a set of factory crossbars so you can really get an idea of how it works on those.

Those are typically very skinny and there's not a lot of room. You usually have to tighten your bolts down a very long way. We'll show you how it works. It's a really neat system there. Something else that I really like, right in the middle on both sides, no matter which side that you're going to require for your application, there's a rubberized pad that's in there. You can see that little oval shape on each one, that really grips onto that cross bar and it's going to keep them from sliding side to side. We've got the same style pad right here on the bottom. Really good gripping surface. Really going to hold our Shuttle in place for us. Now that we've gone over our features, let's take a look and see just how easy it is to really install the SUP Shuttle. Now, as we said before we're going to be using the factory crossbars and basically we're just going to extend this out to whatever width we're going to need and we'll just lay it right up here on the roof line of the vehicle, right over our front crossbar. Now the nice thing is as we're putting this down our brackets are going to come down and make contact with the vehicle, but they're encased in rubber all the way around and our knobs have a nice hard rubber surface, so really no issues with scratching or anything like that that we'll have to deal with. We'll then just bring our flip fit bracket right back and around, around the underside of the bar. We'll fit it into the slot that we saw earlier and then we'll just kind of tighten these down just a little bit for now just to keep our bracket from separating on us. Take out some of the slack that we might have. All right, position it where we want it. As you can see we've already got the rear half installed, so we just want to take a quick look to be sure we have both halves sitting in line with one another. We'll come over to the other side, get our flip fit bracket fit over here. The cool thing is they work on opposing sides, so as you tighten down this side it's kind of pulling against the tightening force that you had on that side so it's going to be a nice, stable fit up here on the roof line of the vehicle Since we know we've got it where we want this side, we're just going to tighten this down. It's going to also offer us dual adjustable knobs so as we tighten down the crossbars, they're a little bit unlevel, so we're really able to kind of custom fit these. The flip fit brackets help out a lot with that. We can adjust it to where we can get it more level than what we could with just a standard set of brackets or maybe U bolts that fasten around the underside. The last step will be just to come over here to the first bracket and finish tightening it down. You can see there nice locked onto our rooftop, no tools required. Really easy, simple installation to go through with. Another great feature designed right into the SUP Shuttle, they're going to be the nice, soft rubber pads that your paddle board or surfboard is going to fit onto. As you can see they're pliable, they've got a good grip to them so we're not going to have to worry about that sliding side to side. Of course no scratches or anything like that. Another great thing to note since we're already right here, we're going to have full stainless steel hardware. Rust, corrosion, things like that are going to be a non-issue for us. Now that we've got the SUP Shuttle installed, let's get our paddle board up there and let's take a look at the hardware that's included to secure our board to our vehicle. The paddle board, we're just going to place this up there fin side down. As we slide it over and on, those pads are going to do a great job of protecting the surface for us. We just want to make sure we've got it centered up and have it where we like it and now we'll bring in our straps. As you can see it's a cam buckle style strap. We're going to have a protective sleeve that's going to come over the cam buckle itself, that way we won't have to worry about any scratches or any issues coming from the metal clasp. We're also going to have board bumpers. These board bumpers are going to sit right over the edge of the paddle board to resist any kind of abrasion that we might have from our strap. The side bumpers are going to sit right over the edge of our paddle board as you can see there. That will protect that corner from any kind of abrasion. Let's get this run across the vehicle. We're going to bring it under the Shuttle as you can see there and then we'll send it right up and over our vehicle to the other side. I'm going to grab the rear one, do that exact same thing. I like to adjust the straps while I'm over here to make sure that they're running straight. It's nice and flat. Then we'll just do the same thing over here. We'll bring the tag end down around the underside of the Shuttle or our crossbars, whatever width is going to work out best for us. Then bring it right back over to our other side. We'll position our bumper for this side. Make sure our one for the front side is good and then we'll just place the tag end of our strap into our cam buckle here. It's nice because that sleeve is going to slide down and off. That will allow for easy operation. Then when we've got our board nice and secure we'll just slide that up, adjust our bumpers to cover those corners properly and there you have it, nice and secure here in the front. We'll just tidy up our excess strap. Then we'll head to the rear and repeat that same process. We're now going to bring our tail strap. In our case today we're just going to connect it right under the receiver hitch of the safety chain loop. We just want to make sure it's connected to something firm metal, whether it's the frame, if you've got a receiver tube, great. It's kind of up to you. Don't want to hook it onto a plastic bumper or something like that certainly. We'll bring it up through the rear attachment point on our paddle board. Take out any of the slack that there might be in there and then we'll just secure it down here a little bit lower. All right, then any excess we'll tidy up. I'm just going to tie mine off down here. All right guys, that's really all there is to it. It just gives us a little more security, a little more stability. We're ready to head down the road to our favorite paddling spot. With our paddle board secure we're ready to head down the road. That will complete today's look at the Tulle SUP Shuttle, part number TH811XT. .

  • How are the Thule SUP Shuttle 811 and 811XT Different
  • Both the 811 and the # TH811XT can hold 2 boards. I personally searched the manuals for both products to verify this. The 811 was a first run so it likely has parts that are riveted together rather than using screws. Generally that is how Thule does things and it is so they have to get the parts back, in this case the 811, to determine what happened to it and how they can make it better with the next generation of the same part; the XT. So basically, minor changes.

  • I wish I had a carrier that you would be able to carry two surfboards with on your 2016 Q5 but the only carrier we offer that can carry two boards is a Thule carrier, part # TH811XT, and it is not confirmed as a fit for your Audi crossbars. The Rhino-Rack SUP and Surfboard Pad, part # RRRWP03 is designed to work with crossbars that measure up to 1-3/4 inches tall and 3-1/2 inches wide. This system comes with 2 tie-downs that help secure the board to the crossbars.
