Video Transcript for SportRack Watersport Carriers SR5528 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the SportRack Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs. This complete kit includes everything you need to carry one canoe on the roof of your vehicle. The unit comes with four durable, closed-cell foam blocks. On the bottom, they feature a nice, nonskid underside that keeps the blocks in place during loading. Located on top, the unit features custom slots that would easily attache to the canoe gunwales. The product also comes with one strong, polypropylene strap with a chrome-plated buckle. This unit is actually what secures the canoe to the roof-rack system. If you're using this on a roof-rack system, when using this you can use it directly on the roof of your vehicle.

But it also has these areas right here that can be removed to fit round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory crossbars. The unit also comes with two extra-long ropes that anchor the canoe's bow and stern for transport. It also comes with the anchor hooks to get those easily attached. This versatile system, again, can be used on naked roofs and most crossbar styles. It does come with a storage bag that is mesh, which is a really nice design, because of these get wet then the bag allows it to breathe. So it's a nice design for your storage option right there. When you're not using the product, you can put it inside that bag.

That way it's always ready and convenient when you need to use them. When it comes to the carrying capacity, it will fit one canoe. Each block measures about 7" long by 3-3/4" wide; that's at the base. And the overall height bottom to top is about 3-7/8". This strap has a length of 15' long. The ropes have a length of 20' long.

And the product is covered with a limited lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the SportRack Canoe Carrier with the included tie-downs.

We used the canoe carrier on our Prius to take our canoe to a lake yesterday. It slipped when we were hit by a strong cross wind, but after picking up the two pads that landed on the road and cinching the bow and stern ropes tighter we were able to continue. Now we have a better idea of how to do it correctly, and will be able to make longer trips. 261939

I purchased this item to transport a 32' aluminum extension ladder on my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan without a roof rack. This kit is well made and has very good straps and tie-downs and the foam block feet are very stable on the roof. I needed another person to place the ladder (70 lbs.) on the van's roof and it worked great. 429830

Do you have a question about this Watersport Carrier?

  • Canoe Carrier Options for a 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • If your 2015 Subaru Outback has the factory roof rack with crossbars that run side to side then you can use the Yakima KeelOver, # Y04069, as a direct fit. If your Outback does not have factory crossbars then you can use a carrier designed for naked roofs such as # S65155 or # SR5528.

  • Recommended Canoe Carrier for 2012 Subaru Outback with Factory Crossbars
  • For the factory crossbars on your 2012 Subaru Outback, I would recommend the SportRack Foam Block Rooftop Canoe Carrier, part # SR5528. The foam blocks used to support the canoe can be mounted to the crossbars, or can be placed directly on the roof surface. The kit includes the foam blocks, tie down straps and the bow and stern lines used to secure the canoe to the front and rear of the vehicle. If you decide to use the foam blocks directly on the vehicle roof, be sure the blocks and...

  • How to Carry a Canoe on a 2013 Toyota Prius with a Bare Roof
  • If your Prius has a bare roof then the only option for carrying a canoe would be a foam block carrier like # SR5528. Otherwise you would have to install a roof rack. We have different roof rack fits for the different 2013 Prius models: Prius, Prius c, Prius plug-in, and Prius V. I want to make the right recommendation so if you are interested in a roof rack please let me know the specific model.

  • How to Attach Vehicle Anchor Straps on a 2011 Kia Soul to Secure a Canoe
  • The vehicle anchor straps can be mounted using some existing locations under the hood of your 2011 Kia Soul or you could use your own hardware. They used an existing bolt to secure one end of the strap for # TH529. For the back or another option for the front take a look at # TH530. This design has a large tube that cannot be pulled out once the hood or hatch is closed. You can then use a tie down kit like # TH855XT. I have included a link to a video of # TH530 for you to view. • Carrying a Canoe on a 2003 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab
  • First, we do carry Rhino-Rack products! The SportRack roof rack system, # SR1005 is a fit for your 2003 Toyota Tacoma double cab. So now we just need to get you a canoe carrier. One of the simplest and cost effective canoe carriers is the SportRack foam blocks, # SR5528. For a roller, you could possibly use the Rhino-Rack model, # RR1375. It is designed to fit on Rhino-Rack Heavy Duty crossbars but it could work for you withl some modification (please note making modifications will void...

  • Roof Rack and Canoe Carrying Recommendations for 2015 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab
  • Don't let your bejeeburs be scared off, we have a solution for you. Rhino Rack offers their Vortex Aero roof rack system that's aerodynamic, yet reasonably priced. You can assemble a rack using the following parts: 54 inch Aero Vortex Crossbars in silver, part # RRVA137S-2 or in black as # RRMA137B-2 Leg kit, part # RRRLKVA Clamp kit, part # DK174 For a canoe carrier, I really like the SportRack foam block carrier, part # SR5528. The blocks will sit right on top of the crossbars,...

  • Canoe Carrier Recommendation for a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Roof Rack
  • To carry a canoe on your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend a simple carrier like the SportRack foam blocks, # SR5528. The blocks fit on your crossbars and the canoe rests upside down in the grooves in each block. Use the included strap and rope to tie down the bow and stern. If you have a 2 inch trailer hitch on the vehicle, I recommend adding a Goal Post, # TH997, which will help with stability and weight carrying of the canoe. Some additional foam blocks, like # SR5528 may be needed.

  • Can a Canoe be Carried on a Rhino-Rack Roof Basket on a 2012 Toyota 4Runner
  • You could carry a canoe on the Rhino-Rack basket # RMCB02 but I recommend adapting some foam blocks # SR5528 to protect the canoe and the basket. Also you will need to make sure that the combined weight of the canoe and the basket does not exceed the roof rack capacity or the vehicle roof weight carrying capacity, which ever is lower. Consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Toyota for the roof capacity on your 2012 Toyota 4Runner. Ideally, though, you would remove the basket and put...

  • How to Carry a Canoe on the Naked Roof of a 2013 Toyota Prius V
  • The Yakima foam blocks Y04056 could be a good option for a naked roof 2013 Toyota Prius V. But I recommend the SportRack foam blocks # SR5528 since they are less expensive and because Yakima has stopped making the foam blocks. To attach it to a vehicle with a naked roof you would first make sure the bottoms of the pads and the roof are clean. Then you would set the canoe down next to the vehicle so that it over hangs the front and rear of the roof evenly. Next you will place the blocks...

  • Roof Rack for 2013 Mazda 3 Five Door to Carry a Rowing Shell
  • The most cost effective and aerodynamic (thus quiet) roof rack would be a Rhino Rack system, that would consist of the following: 44 inch Silver Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA118S-2 (also available in black as # RRVA118B-2) Leg Kit # RRRLKVA Vehicle Specific Fit Kit for vehicles with fixed roof mounted attachment points, # DK289 The rack would be easily removable when needed. • Roof Rack and Carrier to Transport 110-lb Canoe on 2014 Ford F-150 Super Crew Cab
  • If you have a slide-in truck bed camper on your 2013 Ford F-150 you'll need to use a combination of rooftop canoe carrier and front-mounted hitch and load support to hold your 110-lb 15-foot canoe. The good news is that you do not have to install a roof rack on the truck cab, just a handy, low-cost and lightweight foam block canoe carrier like # SR5528 from SportRack. The foam carrier will support one end of the canoe while the front-mounted hitch and load support will support the other...

  • Carrying Canoe Level on 2016 Chevy Silverado with Leer 180 Camper Shell with Rear Incline
  • It would actually be better to have the canoe either all on the camper shell or all on the cab of the truck. When a load is split between the 2 it could result in problems because the truck bed can move some independently from the cab. The artificial rain gutters can be installed anywhere that you are willing to drill into. I do not recommend it on a 2016 Chevy Silverado because who wants to drill holes in the cab of a new truck! What you could do is use one Darby Turbo-Rack # DTA968...

  • Load Assist for Canoe Onto 2012 Subaru Outback
  • Yakima offers the LongArm, part # Y01149-1150. It's a load extender that fits into a trailer hitch receiver. It can be used at the level of a truck bed or the roof. If your factory bars are not round or square, you can use foam pads like the SportRack Canoe Carrier # SR5528 to protect your crossbars and help keep your canoe secure. These pads fit naked roofs, round crossbars, square crossbars, aero or elliptical crossbars, and most factory crossbars. This part number comes with a tie-down...

  • Using Darby Extend-A-Truck # DTA944 Load Extender to Carry Canoe on 2013 Chevy Silverado
  • The Darby # DTA944 Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender and the # DTA968 Turbo-Rack would be a good choice for you for transporting your canoe. Canoes typically weigh less than 100 lbs, and the roof portion of the truck would only be bearing 1/2 the weight of the canoe. Your roof should handle it with no problem whatsoever. I'd also recommend a canoe carrier kit, like part # SR5528. The kit contains foam blocks that will fit around the crossbars to protect the canoe from damage....

  • Canoe Carrier Recommendation for 2015 Lincoln MKC

Altering an existing assembly would have unknown effects on its weight bearing ability, which wouldn't be safe. Rhino Rack offers an inexpensive yet strong rack system that consists of the # RREB137B crossbars, # RRRLKVA legs, # RREB-FK1 adapters, and the # DK227 vehicle-specific clamp kit.
