Video Transcript for SportRack Watersport Carriers - Kayak - SR5525 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the sport rack kayak carrier with the included tie downs. Now, this is a complete kit that includes everything that you need to carry one kayak on the roof of your vehicle. It comes with two durable, closed cell foam blocks. Real nice durable construction, on the under side they feature a non-skid design that keeps the foam blocks in place during loading, and it protects your vehicle's finish at the roof of the vehicle. Right here it's going to feature the sure grip, polyurethane top surface that grips the kayak hole to prevent movement, making transport much safer. The unit also comes with the necessary tie downs, so you're going to get the two strong straps right here with the chrome plated buckles, protective pad on the underside so the buckle doesn't scratch any of your gear or your vehicle.

These right here secure the kayak to the vehicle and then you have two specially designed ropes that anchor the kayaks balanced stern to your vehicle during transport, as well as the appropriate hooks that would attach to the anchor points. This is designed as a universal mount because it can be placed directly on top of a vehicle that has a naked roof and it also accommodates multiple crossbar styles. This center area right here can actually be removed, that way it can fit over a round, square, arrow, elliptical, as well as most factory style cross bars. The capacity for the unit is one kayak. Weight capacity is up to 130 pounds. Each block measures 12 inches long, by three and three quarters of an inch wide.

Here at the center, you can see how that slopes, at the center it has a height of about two and seven eighths. At the end it has a height of about three and seven eighths. The product's also covered with a limited lifetime warranty, and the straps are going to measure around 15 feet long. Last thing I want to mention is the product comes in a mesh bag like this one here. As you can see, really nice breathable design.

Not only does it come to you in this bag, but this bag can also be used when you're not using the gear. You can put the foam blocks, the straps, the hooks, everything in here and keep it safe and secure and easily accessible. That way, when you're ready to use it next time, everything's contained in the bag, it makes for a quick and easy set up.That's going to do it for today's look at the sport rack kayak carrier with the included tie downs.

Great value! Customer service and shipping was excellent. Pads could be a little longer (maybe 4-6") - the only reason I gave it a 4. 299415

- SR5525

Product works great for what we needed it for. We place it on the top of the pick up truck and put the kayak on them. They stay in place and we strap the kayak down. 441927

Still working great!

Used on my Mazda Millenia with a Perception Tribe 13.5ft 70lb tandem kayak. Actually worked better than expected due to the shape of the bottom of the boat having recessed channels that the foam fit right into (got lucky with the width working perfectly). Attached photo is my first hurried attempt when picking up the kayak from the store for the first time ever. 206362

- SR5525

Shipment arrived fast and in good condition. The foam blocks fit my 2018 GMC Terrain roof bows perfectly. Given it is not kayaking season in Michigan, yet, the rest of the kit for tying down the kayak has not been used. However, the straps and rope appear to be what is needed for the job. 481058

- SR5525

Exceeded expectations. Good customer service. I recommend. 382450

- SR5525

This simple system works to carry our tandem kayak on an ordinary car. Far more economical than a rack system. Only drawback after a few months of using seems to be the straps become harder to fit into the jaws of the clamps as the ends fray. 376592

I am still using and satisfied with this product. The foam blocks have not deteriorated. Great customer service replacing the straps under warranty when the ends frayed. Did have to pay for shipping them back but not for the replacements and shipping

- SR5525

Built well but does not work good, the straps don't let you get a super tight tie down. And also when I loaded my kayak on this, the roof dented on my car. Would not recommend this 374431

Need to buy again 357814

- SR5525

Excellent value! The straps are very high quality and the foam blocks are narrow, but are fine for my application. Please do use the bow and stern tie-down ropes when transporting your boat. The extra three minutes will ensure that your boat does not leave roof/rack and injure or kill someone in the vehicle behind you. 266616

- SR5525

The kayak block and straps are well suited for just about any vehicle. We use them in our rent and go kayak rentals and have never had a customer complain about their performance. They are durable and come with all the gear needed to lock down your 9 footer or your 14 footer. 247144

Great product. Super fast shipping, thank you!!!!! 213141

- SR5525

I've purchased several things over the past few months. Etrailer is very quick, helpful and the inventory is impressive. These pads were of good quality and came with the straps. I used them on my Rhino Racks to save a few bucks in lieu of the kayak cradles for now. The Aero bars are a little thicker than the OEM cross bars. The cut-outs opened up enough to fit. Good product for the money. 193208

  • Transporting 2 Kayaks on a 2017 Prius C
The most economical way to haul two kayaks on a 2017 Toyota Prius C consists of a few parts. A roof rack, and a kayak solution. The most bang for your buck in terms of roof racks is the Rhino-Rack 2500 kit, consisting of the following parts: - 2500 Square Crossbars, part # RREB106B - 2500 Series Legs, part # RRRLKVA - Euro Bar Adapter, part # RREB-FK1 - DK Fit Kit for 2500 Roof Racks, part # DK351 As far as for the kayak carrier itself, there are two options that will fit your...

  • Rooftop Cargo Basket for 2013 Lexus RX 450h
I checked with Thule and they do not show direct cargo basket fits for factory bars on your 2013 Lexus RX 450h so an aftermarket square bar rack will be a good way to go to ensure a basket such as their Trail XT # TH864XT or their Canyon # TH859XT will fit well on your car. I suggest the Curt Roof Rack # C181118 that will mount to your raised roof side rails with a 32-inch bar spread; this bar spacing is compatible with both the Canyon and Trail baskets. On thing to keep in mind is...

  • Parts Needed to Mount Kayaks on the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08107
On the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer, # Y08107, you will want to use a compatible kayak carrier unless you do not mind the kayaks sitting directly on the bars. I recommend a couple sets of foam blocks, # SR5525, because they are cost effective and they come with bow and stern tie downs to secure the kayaks to the trailer. If your kayaks are longer than 17 feet, you will want to add the tongue extension, # Y08109, so the kayaks do not make contact with the tow vehicle. I have included...

  • Can Foam Blocks Fit Around TracRac Ladder Rack Bars to Carry a Kayak
The TracRac ladder rack bars are quite large; too large for me to be comfortable saying that you could trim away foam blocks # SR5525 to fit around them. But I do have a solution for you. You can use the Thule Surf Pads # TH803 to protect the hull of the kayak. These pads will fit the old Thule Xsporter bars which are similar in shape and size to the TracRac bars. You would then just need bow and stern tie downs to secure the kayak to the TracRac bars, # TH855XT.

But we do offer a range that are compatible with factory crossbars. The link at right will show you all kayak carriers that will fit OEM roof crossbars. I am going to assume that the roof of your 5th wheel trailer does not have any type of roof rack on it. In that case you would need to either add one or use one of the carriers designed for a naked roof. The easiest way to go would be a carrier designed for a naked roof. The SportRack Standard Block Island, # SR5525, is a kit that will fit on a naked roof. The Malone Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style - 18" Long - 1 Kayak # MPG152 or the SportRack Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam-Block-Style - Roof Mount - 12" Long # SR5525 do not have a length requirement, but I recommend using a roof rack and more stable support for your...

This is the hitch I suggest since it does not require use of a stabilizing strap as some others do. In addition to this carrier I recommend using a roof rack to secure your kayak to the roof of your truck instead of the foam blocks. SportRack bills this as a 'semi-custom' fit, meaning it'll fit many different vehicles fairly well. The least expensive custom fit roof rack we offer is the Rhino-Rack aero bar rack, which consists of the following parts: # RRVA118B-2 # RRRLKVA # DK372 As a custom fit rack, the Rhino-Rack option will fit much better, and I believe you'll be happier with the result....

  • Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 2010 Honda Fit
Unless you plan to only carry the kayak once or twice I wouldn't recommend a foam block setup as they aren't the most secure. Instead you would want to use a roof rack and kayak carrier like the Hullaport part # TH834. The straps for this go from the roof rack and carrier around the kayaks. The Rola Roof Rack part # 59756 is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and would be a great option for that as well.
