Jake: Hey, guys, it's Jake here at eTrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to use the Malone WideTrak AT Cart for kayaks and canoes. Now here, you'll see, we have it in a configuration where we have the bunks, the two bunks installed on top. It's also available without the bunks. It's just going to depend what type of canoe or kayak that you have, if these are going to help you. They're going to provide more stability for those longer and more odd-shaped bottom canoes or kayaks. So here you can see the cart without the bunks on it. You can see it's going to have that traditional, shallow, V bottom shape to it, to be able to fit your kayak.
This cart and this configuration is going to fit a majority of those standard kayaks. But if you want to make sure that you're covered for any situation that you might be in, I'd recommend picking up the cart with the bunks. Now here you can see that we have a 12-foot, two-person kayak. You can tell how nearly impossible this would be to carry by yourself, down to your water source, and even if you are hauling this with two people, that's still two people that have to carry it all the way to wherever you're going. With the help of this cart, you're going to have one person walking beside the person pulling it.This is a prime example of when you would want to use these bunks, because it's going to provide more stability, length-wise, on the cart. Since we have our traditional kayak here, we're going to use it without the bunks today.
Let's go ahead and get it loaded up.What you want to do, you want to take your kayak, set it on about the three-quarter mark on your kayak, so that you'll have a nice pivot point to lift up on the other end. Once you have it in place, Malone does include two tiedown straps to be able to tie it to the rack.Your strap is going to come in two separate sections, one with the cam buckle, and one without. We'll start with the one without. It's going to have these pre-sewn loops in the end, which are a really nice feature. Then you don't have to tie your own loops in.Loop your strap through, and you want to secure this to a part on the cart that is a non-moving part.
You don't want to put it on the legs, because they'll fold up when we get ready to go.Slip it over, run your strap through the cam buckle strap. You might have to put a hand on the cart, because it is light enough to where you might move it, and just cinch it down, and tie up your excess. We'll go ahead and install our second strap, just in order to keep our cart stable underneath our kayak, while we're going over uneven terrain. The nice thing about these legs is that you can fold them up when you're hauling your kayak, like so, or you can actually travel with them, just like this. Now that we got our kayak all strapped down to our cart, we're ready to go to the water. Just lift up on the end of your kayak, pull it right out. These wheels are going to have a nice, soft and never flat rubber construction. They're not going to have any air in them, so you're not going to have to worry about them going flat.
And they're going to give you that smooth soft ride over payment, and through your yard, or rocky or rough terrain. When it comes to the weight of the handle of the kayak, I can only tell you, it's only about 10 pounds. So it's not very heavy, and it's going to make it easier to push up and down the hills, rather than walking while carrying your kayak. As you can see here, it's going over our grass area very easily. Now we're going to transfer over to concrete, and it hops right up over that curb, and you're on your way. Our wheels on this contract are going to be 12 inches tall and three inches wide, which is going to give you that advantage when you're going over larger rocks, or if you had to go through maybe a creek crossing to get to where you're going. The advantage that we're going to have with these tires, rather than the balloon tires, is the balloon tires are designed for sand, and these are designed for all terrain, going on pavement, or into this rougher spot that we have here. So we'll go ahead and show you how well they perform. You can see we can pull it right across those rocks, without having to worry about popping the tire.If you find yourself liking this all terrain design in a tire, but you're also wanting to take your kayak to the bach, you can pick up a set of the balloon tires, which will make it a lot easier to drive over sand or marshy wet areas. Now, although I've been walking pretty slow, talking about the cart, you can walk at full speed, and the cart's wheel size is going to adapt to the rough terrain that you're walking over. We'll go ahead and show you that. Now one of the nicest benefits you're going to get from this cart is that, yeah, it's going to help you get your kayak from, wherever you're carrying it from, down to your water source. But after kayaking all day, you're probably not going to have the strength, or want to carry your kayak all the way back to your vehicle or to your house. When you get to where you're going, simply flip those legs back out, and you can unstrap your kayak. Now, with our kayak all unstrapped, you can take your kayak, and set it down in the water. Now, you might be wondering, once you get to where you're going, what are you supposed to do with the cart If you're at your house, or somewhere where you trust that it won't get stolen, or tampered with, you can just leave it sit on the shore. But if you're at a public place, and you don't want to worry about it being stolen or damaged, you can take it with you on your kayak. It's light enough to where you can just lift it up, fold the legs in.If you choose, you can take the wheels off. You simply pull one pin, and you can take the wheels off, and put them in any storage compartment that you might have. In our case here, our kayak is not large enough to do that. So what I've found, the best way is to just flip it over on its top, and tie it down to any anchor point you might have, and it should stay back there safe. Our cart is going to be made out of a marine grade aluminum construction, so it's going to be able to hold up to frequent use near water. Your pads here are going to be an inch and three-quarters thick foam, so it's going to provide protection for your heavier kayaks. It's going to have a 250-pound weight capacity, so you know that you're going to be able to haul pretty much any kayak or canoe that you can put on it.You're also going to have a nice wide strap here in the middle. It's going to be doubled over. It's going to give you that rigidity and strength, so that the poles don't pull out any further than they're supposed to.My favorite thing about this Malone cart has got to be its simplicity. The fact that you can just pick it up, fold it up, store it in your garage, in your car, pretty much wherever, it's so small. Because you can take the wheels off and store them, it's going to store flat, wherever you put it.Well, guys, with all that being said, that's going to do it for a look at the Malone WideTrak AT Kayak and Canoe Cart.

Malone WideTrakAT large kayak and canoe cart with bunks make transport easy in rough all-terrain conditions. The never-go-flat tires are non-pneumatic, requiring no air pressure. Padded bunks included for non-traditional hulls.Just received my Malone Wide Track. Took awhile to receive it due to all the production issues this year. eTrailer Shipped it as soon as it became available. simple assembly required, appears to be very well made. Can’t wait to try it with my new Old Town Sportsman 120PDL....
Exactly as described. I haven't used it yet, but it seems quite robust and light. Fast delivery too!
Unbelievable shipping time!!! I received my order less than 36 hours from purchase! Great service, notifications, and detailed tracking. The product was %15 cheaper and works as advertised. Best service ever...BIG thanks!
Great product, very easy to assemble. Fits my Old Town PDL 106 like a glove. It seems this cart was made for this kayak, accommodating the W shaped hull bottom.
Also, etrailer kept in contact with me regularly, even during the Covid pandemic. Great customer service!
This is a very good cart for heavy kayaks and (I guess) canoes. My cart arrived missing the hardware pack (I deducted one star for that) so I didn't have straps or any way to attach the bunks to the cart. I contacted Malone support directly and they got a FedEx 2nd Day Air package out to me that same day with the missing parts. So - great customer service on their part.
The instructions show the kickstand to the rear of the kayak when installing the rack. You'll need to experiment with that as it seems to make more sense to have the kickstand toward the front of the kayak if you are lifting the kayak from the rear; the angle of the cart is better that way.
Some review I saw said the straps were flimsy. The ones I received are beefy and very long - excellent straps.
This cart can be disassemble and reassemble without tools. But - its a little tedious with the small clips. You'll need to take care not to lose those. Even disassembled, it also seems large to try to carry in the hold of your kayak. This cart seems better for use where you can leave it in your vehicle or safely on shore to come back to.
It's the third card I've tried and is definitely the best for transporting a heavy, loaded fishing kayak.
Recommend avoiding. Product has promise but the foam on the bunks is not secured and will not stay on. Lost a piece before I realized this and when contacting Malone they would not sell any nor even say when the full bunk kit would be in stock to buy the full kit so I could glue them on myself. Malone stated "We expect the kayaks to be placed on the cart, not "slid" onto it". Sometimes it's not easy getting a 180lb kayak perfectly lined up the first time.
Easy to transport a loaded kayak without having to go back and forth to load gear. Works well with my Hobie and Perception. It is a large dolly and takes up space in the back of my truck bed. Removing the wheels reduces space. Overall it works well for me.
Wonderful for taking kayaks to water from trailer. We are very pleased!

We now also have a trailer we built. I think you should have this cart because we have found that there are always areas where you annit get trailer to the water.
We have 10 ft Eddyline kayaks. We bought another cart at the time of our kayaks purchase. It was too difficult to keep the kayak on it. This Malone wide trakat is much larger than our previous cart. If we center our kayaks on the cart, there's no weight since it's balanced. Using the center position makes it very easy to maneuver also. The wider wheels provide good stability. This cart is great for our needs. We are old geezers and it's great for us that we never have to carry our kayaks very far to our vehicle. To set the cart up there are directions and pictures on the shipping box, but there's also a [online video] that explains everything.
The cart works perfectly for my Hobie Compass. Lightweight, rustproof aluminum but sturdy. All I could ask for in a cart.
Initially, my cart was not in stock from the manufacturer but I received several e-mails from etrailer about it's status. It was delivered right on time based on the ETA I was given. Very satisfied with the service.
This cart with the bunks fits my 3 waters tri-hull like a glove. Quality construction with large wheels I am very happy with. Delivery was fast and I was able to easily track shipment.
I love the product. Tubes and tires are solid. After setting it up, it looks stable. I have not tried it yet but I think it will not have a problem in any surface because of the big sturdy tires. Hope it Works in sandy condition too like in the beach.
Sturdy and lightweight. The bunks make a big difference on my 80lb kayak/canoe. I would recommend this unit, especially if you have a heavier kayak.

The cart works well for temporary storage as well as transporting from truck to lake. My kayak weighs over 100 lbs, so this product has been an absolute necessity for me. 5 stars!
