Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier, part number RRS520. The Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier comes with everything you need to secure two kayaks, but will allow you to carry up to four with the use of additional straps. You could pick those up separately with part number RRRTD55P. It stows our kayaks in the upright position giving us more space for gear. I've gone ahead and removed the kayaks so we can get a closer look. It's vertical-style post, so it's going to work with multiple styles of kayaks. The loop at the top is going to allow us run our straps through to secure our kayaks, and the rubber strip along the post is going to insure a good grip and prevent our kayak from sliding down.

They're made out of the same anodized aluminum construction as the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero bars, so they're going to have a nylon base. It's going to be strong and rust-proof. When not in use, they have the ability to fold down to the left or right, so you pull into your garage. The way to do that is you simply just pull out on the level here, push down on the tab in the back, and fold it down. Then you can close it back up. With the included hardware, you can either mount it to your T-track or to most aero or elliptical-style crossbars.

The balance 00:01:24 tie-down straps measure 18 feet and the load straps for the kayaks measure about 15 feet. Now that we've gone over all the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now there's two ways to go about mounting this to your roof rack system. There's the T-track method, and then there's the clamp-style method. We're going to show you both.

Let's go ahead and start with the T-track method first. We'll take our post. We're just going to turn it on its side. We'll take our plate, and we'll set it in place where it contours with the bottom of the post like so. Then we'll take the short bolt with the flat top. We're going to put that through the top to where it comes out the bottom just like that.

Then we'll take a flat washer and then a lock nut, and put that in place. We want to do that for all four sides. Now with those all in place, we can go ahead and tighten them down. Now you will have to provide your own 10mm wrench. Now with both of those installed, let's go ahead and place on our T nuts. We'll start off by taking our Allen bolt, followed by a lock washer, then a flat washer, then we'll put that through. Then we'll take our T-nut, and get that started on the bottom. Now we don't need to tighten that up. Let's just get it started. Then we'll turn it over, and we'll put one here. Then we'll do the same thing for our other post. Now with all that put together, let's go ahead and head up to our roof rack. First thing we'll need to do is remove our end cap. That's going to reveal our channel here which is where our T-nut is going to slide through. Then we can remove our rubber stripping. Now ordinarily you can trim the rubber stripping to fit around your post, but for demonstration purposes, we're just going to remove them. Now we can slide our posts onto our roof rack. Now you want to be sure that the nuts are lined up and loosened up. That way we can easily slide it on. Just like that. Now depending on how many kayaks you're carrying, you want to reference the instructions on where to position your posts. We're going to be carrying two, so I'm going to position my posts in the center, about there. Then we can take our included tool, and tighten it down. Now there's no reason to over-tighten, just get it nice and snug on both sides. Now we'll just repeat the same process for the other side. Now with both of those tightened down, we'd be ready to load up some kayaks and hit the road, but let's show you the clamp-style method. It's extremely easy. We don't have to remove any end-caps or any rubber stripping. The post is just going to sit right on top of our crossbar according to however many kayaks we're going to mount of course. Our plate is just going to be flipped around and go underneath. Once we have it in position, then we can grab our longer bolt. It's going to go down through the top the same. Then we'll grab a flat washer, bring it underneath, and then followed by one of our thumb screws. We can get that loosely installed for now. Then we'll repeat the same process for the other three. Once we have them all loosely installed, then we can tighten them down evenly. Perfect. Once you get that one tightened down, go ahead and move on to the next one. All right, with both of those tightened down, let's go ahead and load up some kayaks. We'll load it up with the bow facing forward as you see it here, but we'll make sure that the hole is facing the post. Then we can adjust it so we can fit our next kayak. For our next kayak, the bow is going to face the opposite direction so towards the back. We'll rest it in place . just like that. If you're going to be carrying additional kayaks, be sure to keep alternating bow and stern. As you can see, we've loaded up our kayaks on the same side of the post. For optimal safety, Rhino-Rack recommends that we carry all our kayaks, whether we're carrying one, two, three, or four on the same side of the post. However, if you're carrying four kayaks, you do have the ability to carry two on each side. Now let's run our straps. The kit comes with four. We've got one for our bow and one for our stern, and then two to strap in our kayaks. We'll take the shorter ones and use them to strap on our kayaks. We're just going to hold on to the buckle end, and then toss the other end to the other side. With our straps here on the other side, we'll want to be sure and run them through the loop here. Once we've got them through, we can toss that back over to the other side. Now we'll take our loose strap, the one that we threw over, and we're going to go underneath our crossbar behind our mount. Once we get it underneath, bring it back up. Just going to pull down on it just to give me some slack. Then I'm going to run it through my buckle. I'll adjust it to where it's just kind of center. That way it's not rubbing on my kayak. Then I'll pull it nice and tight. Then we can just tuck it or tie it, whatever you want to do. Then we'll just repeat the same process for the other strap. For our bow strap, we're just going to attach it to our two spots here on our kayak. We'll take the open end here, run it through one and then the other. Then we'll just pull that through. Now we can just attach this to a secure spot on the front of our vehicle or you could pick up the Rhino-Rack bonnet anchor point which just attaches underneath the hood. It's sold separately with part number RBAS. We're just going to run our strap through, then through the buckle, and pull it nice and tight. There we go. Then we can just bundle up our excess. Now if you'd like, you can use the Rhino-Rack bonnet here as well, but we're just going to attach it to our hitch loop. Same thing we'll go through our kayaks here. Then we'll just come down, go through the loop here. Then we'll just make our way through the buckle, and pull it nice and tight just the same. Now we're ready to hit the road. That's going to complete our look at the Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier, part number RRS520.

Very happy with my rack purchase from you. I haven't taken them far but been down to the lake twice and the rack seems to support all three kayaks very well. Thanks for your assistance in selecting the proper rack 387666

Just tried out the system on my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek yesterday. It worked great. A Stacking system maybe a little harder to load than a "j" system, but if you're using crossbars instead of a thule or yakama systems chances are that you won't be able to fit more than one kayak on your roof. But the "post" or stacking design will allow it. So its worth the extra effort. Plus, you don't have to buy more holders, like you would if you went "j" style. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture. 633548

My wife and I purchased the Rhino Rack Nautic Stack to transport 4 kayaks. We considered similar products by Yakima and Thule, but the acceptable weight limit for the Rhino Rack was there deciding factor. Each of our kayaks weighs 38lbs, and the Rhino Rack was the only item that could handle this load. We were very pleased with etrailer's service and advice. George was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend buying the hood anchors and an extra set of the down straps. The tire down straps are far superior to ratchet-type tie downs that you buy elsewhere - they are strong and SOOO easy to use. I highly recommend the Nautic Stack and etrailer. P.s. we use a bike lock for the Rhino Rack and for our kayaks and they work great for overnight theft protection when we take the kayaks out of town. 550966

High quality product. Well worth the price paid over cheaper, lower quality "copycat" type version if this authentic product. The well made, easy to use straps really seal-the-deal! Much better than messing around with cheap straps or ropes. Getting it delivered quickly (even with the free shipping) was a godsend for this past weekend because her and I were able to mount it on my daughter's Hyundai Tuscon, mount up 2 kayaks, and hit the rivers of Northern Florida without delay. The system is very easy to use. My daughter can now use it on her own when I head back north in a couple of days. 361998

Love the rack and the ease of use that it offers. I use it mostly for the family kayaks but has come in handy for some other large items when I need them to work. Useful for just about any type of hold down effort since my rack doesn't have many hitch points of its own. 706186

I have not yet had the pleasure of using this stacker, as I just received it a couple of days ago. This was exactly what I was looking for, at a better price than the similar products I had been seeing on other sites. I will be using this item, with multiple kayaks, on the roof rack of my SUV. 553042

  • For your 2010 Ram 2500 4 door Crew Cab, I recommend starting with the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack consisting of the following: Vortex Aero Crossbars- 59" Long - Qty 2 # RRVA150B-2 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRRLKVA Custom DK Fit Kit # DK043 Then you can use the Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - Post Style # RRS520 to secure the kayaks. • I do have a solution for you to use a track mounted stacking style of kayak carrier to your TracRac SR T-Slots but unfortunately the Watersports Adapter # THXADAPT11 is not compatible with the Thule Stacker # TH830 and there is no way to adapt the Stacker for a T-Slot application. Instead you can use the Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier # RRS520 which has the same basic design and comes with hardware to mount it to crossbars with a T-Slot. • Carrying a Kayak and Paddleboard at the Same Time on a 2008 Honda Accord Sedan

If it does not have a roof rack is the Accord a 2- or 4-door? Are you wanting to carry the kayak and the board at the same time? • Can 2 Kayaks and 2 SUPs Fit on the Malone XtraLight Trailer MPG525G
  • On the Malone trailer # MPG525G the crossbars are 58 inches long. If you were to place the kayaks side by side and on their sides using a carrier such as the Nautic # RRS520 and then placed the SUPS stacked next to the kayaks the overall width of all those products is likely going to be greater than 58 inches. So really you just need a version of the trailer with longer bars. Trailer # MPG460G has 65 inch long bars. You can do a rough measurement ahead of time by putting the kayaks on...

If you would like to utilize the foam blocks with a post-style carrier then I recommend using the Malone Stax...

  • One Roof Rack and Kayak Carriers that Will Fit Both a 2010 Subaru Forester and 2005 Pontiac Montana
  • For the lowest cost roof rack option that will fit both your 2005 Pontiac Montana and 2010 Subaru Forester, both with side rails, I recommend using Inno feet # INFR with 50 inch bars # INB127. This system will be fast and easy to install or remove and it is compatible with the Yakima HullRaiser kayak carrier Y04039. I know it isn't one of the ones you mentioned but based on limiting cost it is the best option. But using these carriers will limit you to 2 kayaks at most because there...

You can use part # RRRBAS-RTD55P-RTD45P which includes straps for the kayaks to the rack, bow and stern straps, as well as anchors to help connect the bow and stern lines to your vehicle.

  • Will Rhino-Rack Nautic Kayak Carrier Fit OEM Crossbars on a 2017 Kia Sorento
  • I am not sure what the dimensions are for the OEM roof rack on your 2017 Kia Sorento but I can say that the Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier # RRS520 fits the Rhino-Rack Aero-Style crossbars. These crossbars measure 3-1/8" wide x 1-3/16" tall so as long as your OEM crossbars don't exceed this the Nuatic carrier will fit and work great! If you don't have tie-down points on your Sorento then you can use the Anchor Straps # RRRBAS-2 for an easy connection. Please note that these...

  • How To Carry Four Kayaks on a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica
  • If you have the factory roof rack on your 2008 Chrysler Pacifica then yes, we do have a system for you that will allow you to carry four kayaks. In order to do so you will need to place them on the roof with a roof mounted kayak carrier. I recommend the, Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs part # RRS520 because it is currently the most cost effective option. In addition to the above you will also need the Rhino-Rack Cam-Buckle Cinch Strap and Anchor Kit part # RRRBAS-RTD55P-RTD45P...
