Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, either behind the driver's-side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment. You will need to remove some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the provided fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

The hitch fit perfectly as did the wiring harness. Hitch install wasn’t as smooth as the video since the video was a 2019 Outback and mine is 2013. I figured it out anyway. Got hung up when I cut out 4” x 4 1/2” fascia per instructions. On the 2013, 4” x 5 1/2-6” is required. The 8 main bolts that hold the hitch and bumper beam were pretty rusty since my Outback is so old. Thank goodness for PB Blaster and 1/2” breaker bar. Not etrailer’s fault but UPS delivered it 2 days later than promised causing wasted good weather and having to finish install in a cold rain. When installing the harness, I couldn’t get by with slotted screwdriver. I had to go buy a trim tool. Advance Auto gouged me $xx for it. It’s basically a split screwdriver. Also the included double sided mounting tape was not included. Fortunately, I had some on hand. Overall, highly recommend. Customer service rep was very knowledgeable and helpful.

2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

I haven't used it for trailering yet but with the instructional video from etrailer the installation went pretty smoothly and I was done in 15 minutes.
I also used this harness in conjunction with the conjection with the Kurt trailer hitch that I got from etrailer and the instructional video for that was spot on as well.

Comments
The connector works great and is easy to put out of the way under the rear deck when not in use.

Excellent product as usual from etrailer. This is probably the third wiring adapter I’ve brought from etrailer & they’re always plug & play. The only thing that varies is where the connector is located in the vehicle. Luckily Subaru places them in an easy to reach location. Out new 2022 Outback was the easiest yet. The instructions say to “Store the 4-Flat connector in the spare tire compartment when not in use”. I don’t like the idea of it being closed in the tailgate when in use so I run it through an oval I cut in the spare tire well using a grommet and silicone sealant to ensure it says water tight. The extra wiring is secured to the back side of the bumper and just enough lead hanging out to connect to my utility trailer.

Subaru Outback Wagon

This worked perfectly. The installation took about 30 minutes. If I had actually read the instructions before starting, it would have taken less than 5 minutes. I assumed I knew where the vehicle plug was in my Subaru Outback and disassembled much of the rear hatch area. It wasn't where I thought it was. Finally after consulting the directions I learned it was inside the spare tire area up against the trim work. I didn't need to actually remove anything! I plugged it in and tucked the unit up under the passenger side panel and left the trailer plug in with the spare tire. There is plenty of length to reach any trailer connector.

Got great. F is location for 23 crosstrek electrical plug. Used long 2” sq tube and bench to hold it level and put on by myself. I am 80.

The nice lady that I spoke with when I called about the wiring harness was very helpful. She provided me with 3 options for my vehicle. I went with the T-one made by Tekonsha. I have had such a wonderful experience with etrailer for the second time now. I am a life customer.

Thank you for all that you do. The youtube videos are so helpful.

I had this wiring harness installed on my daughter's Subaru Forester with a DrawTight hitch we also purchased from etrailer. The independent mechanic who did the install commented on the quality of the wiring harness when he was showing how it connected. We live in a small town. Word gets around. At least two other people considering a hitch install who also use this same mechanic reached out to me to confirm which parts I ordered. I don't own the car but I see it every few days. I know the lights on the trailer haven't failed. What else can you say, except, 'Go with this one'.

Easy install of both hitch and wiring. Second hitch I bought from these guys and have been happy with both.

by:

Just an easy install. Have 60 + years in the maintenance field turning wrenches on lots of aircraft, vehicles, and anything with engines and I believe anyone with just a little capability could install the hitch and wiring easily. I put hitches from etrailer on both my Honda CR-V and Subaru Forster for light duty pulling like kayak trailer, ect. Did both hitches in an afternoon without a lift. Only suggestion is to emphasize wearing safety glass. I know this is a standard safety recommendation, but the fish wire supplied for bolt & nut pull through is springy and can get into places that you lose track of and can be a problem in close in places. etrailer has a very good instructional installation video and also recommend watching it prior to install. Good product.

by:

This is the third wiring harness I have purchased from E-trailer. Always matches vehicle in question and how to install videos are excellent.

Good quality component, and would be easy to install with better instructions. I tried for an hour to figure out how to install it from the ESL instructions with the zoomed in dysfunctional photos. I finally went to [online video site] and found a video that a uhaul employee had posted after installing one in the same model car. Ten minutes later the task was complete. Note: I am a retired mechanic and nuclear training instructor. My mechanical knowledge would have sufficient if the instructions were understandable.

Comments
The product is good quality and is working fine. The install instructions were inadequate causing excess labor. The instructions had me remove the side panel directly behind the drivers side passenger seat to connect the in-line conversion box. After doing a [online video] search, I found a video posted by a u-haul employee that did an expert step by step. The box was to be installed under a panel on the rearmost passenger side next to the liftgate, which was easy to remove and replace. Poor instructions cost me an extra hour of unnecessary labor. I re-read the instructions to see if I had misinterpreted them, but I didn’t - the instructions were incorrect. 2017 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium.

Your video on how to install hitch and wiring was so simple to follow and easy to understand that I did not even need the instruction sheets. This video convinced me to do it myself and save money allot of money!

The only problem while installing hitch I had was in enlarging the holes in my car. This was because of the material this section was made of , aluminum. or something of the kind, very soft. A die grinder would have made short work of this task. This part took the most time, about 30 min. the rest of the job was complete in another 15 min. I am speaking about the hitch, wiring took another 30 min., you will see why when you view my pictures. The wiring harness connectors fit into my cars harness like it was manufactured a the plant which built my car. The car dealer where I bought the car tried to sell me on them installing hitch and wiring because they claimed your products would need a lot of retrofitting. This was not the case at all. Everything you supplied fit perfect without any necessary modifications, however I did make a modification to the wiring harness to fit my own needs.

I did not like the idea of sticking it out the trunk, so I went to local parts store and picked up a special bracket and connector to install onto the trailer hitch, thus having connector outside car as it should be. If I did not make this mod it would have only taken 10 min. to install. You can see this connector mod in the picture I am sending you.

I have recommended this site to many other people in my fishing club and at work. My brother-in law has just ordered one for his car, seeing how easy my in-stallion was. With your help and a desire to save allot of money anyone can install a hitch, even if you never did one before.

The two wire feeders for the bolts worked great, I never saw this technique before. Without them the job would have been tough to say the least.

As you mentioned, it is wise to have another person help when it comes time to lift the hitch into position. My brother in -law helped me, now he is buying a hitch and I shall help him lift it into position. Maybe if I was not 63 I could have done the job myself.

by:

Easy to install. Helpful video online [videos] shows how straightforward this is to install on my vehicle. One note, on my Subaru Outback ('23) and on my co-worker's identical car, two of the four plastic fasteners for the cargo plastic trim piece broke when we removed the trim piece. There was no way to avoid this.

by:

Part works well and the installation videos were excellent.

by:

Simple and easy install. Took only about 10 minutes and looks great. The installation videos on the product page make buying and knowing what the product is compatible with makes everything a breeze. I will definitely recommend this product and etrailer to anyone for their trailer needs. - Roman N

Product of trailer hitch itself is well made and fits on my brand new Subaru Crosstrek 2023 perfectly. Can't believe how well they engineered it around the car undercarriage. But the paint job was horrible! No noticeable primer. The paint actually flaked when I touched it with my finger. Since there were no paint chips in the shipping box, someone must have sent it out this way. Product would have rusted immediately, and was being installed on a vehicle with less than 100 miles. etrailer offered to send a replacement - but why would I think workmanship on that unit would be any different? Plus I was on a deadline -- I paid for expedited shipping. I removed the loose paint and re-painted over the full surface with a matte black rust resistant product. I will probably have to do it again after my trip, but it will get me through the immediate need. etrailer gave me a small partial refund for my hassle, which does not cover the cost to remove, strip, prime, repaint and re-install, but it is better than nothing. Watch on-line videos for hitch and wiring install. The instructions provided by manufacturer are not detailed enough. etrailer sales did as good of a job on this order as they could, and my consultant was knowledgeable. But the manufacturer let them down with a less-than-quality paint job and their shipping department sent a questionable product. Rating as a 3 for well-made metal-portion of the product and for efforts to address a situation gone wrong.

2020 Subaru Outback Wagon

This couldn’t have been any easier to install. Other items similar may be cheaper but they require you to drill into the car to ground the wire; this is not necessary with this. I would have given it a 5 star rating but the two sided tape the video says is included was not. I had to use packing tape to hide the module and I know that won’t last long.

by:

Well for starters I was skeptical about how easy the installation and wiring would be according to the videos provided by etrailer .
Contrary to my belief , this was an easy installation with proper instructions according to the paper manual. Also the wiring connectors location and plug in were accurate
Thank you etrailer ( George & Carol )
Best regards
Fidel

The smaller items were just tossed in the larger box with the receiver. So the box has several holes in it and the wiring harness was laying on the ground next to it when delivered. Also, the locking pin was well overpriced.

Replaced Curt wire harness with Tekonsha. The lower power Tekonsha works fine with my LED Trailer lighhts. Was a little tricky to install as would have liked the harness length increased between Subaru connection and controller block.

This harness is great. I installed it myself. I like that there was a video of how to do it on your site. It works great.
