  • Maximum amperage:
    • Stop/turn lights: 3 amps per circuit
    • Tail lights: 6 amps per circuit
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the converter, insert the included 10-amp fuse into the integrated fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area. Adhere the black converter box to the frame of the car using the double-sided tape provided. Secure any loose parts of the T-connector with the provided cable ties.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

2022 Subaru Forester

It is a really great hitch. And the installation was pretty easy. It only took me about an hour and a good part of that time was spent removing and installing the exhaust system and the worst part was the dust / dirt cover on the driver side of car.

I also bought and installed the trailer wiring harness pigtale . It was very easy once I located the connector on the car. That was hard to find because was not in the normal place for a Forester.

2015 Subaru Forester

This is the second trailer hitch and wire harness I've bought from etrailer and I am beyond satisfied! They leave no stone unturned for instructions and customer service. The video tutorials and the products are fantastic. I will never go anywhere else for trailer hitch and accessories.

2015 Subaru Outback Wagon

First, let me say how impressed I was with the well designed website, and ease of ordering, I particularly liked that there were multiple products available for the same vehicle application. The speed in which the product arrived (less than 48 hours) was impressive, and the package arrived in perfect condition. Excellent communication along the way! Can't wait to install, the hitch, and there is seemingly excellent videos provided by etrailer that are available if necessary. Thanks!

Perfectly, no issues at all.

Using the video, the Curt-T wiring harness was very easy to install. The taillight connector for the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness is underneath the floor covering between the hatch and spare tire section near the passenger side.

by:

Very easy to install on my '22 Subaru Outback. I didn't bother running it out of the hatch area though. I just pull it from under the mat & hang it out the back when needed. Great!

by:

This went on without a problem on a 2022 Subaru Outback thankfully providing the built-in wiring harness that is located under the right side rear trim piece, I did not need to remove. I used 3M Dual Lock in case the control unit needs to be easily moved in the future. Using this for a OneUp Bike Rack and their license plate and LED light bar.

by:

Installing was very easy once I found the connector in the car , added bracket for a clean, professional look on car.

2022 Subaru Ascent

I placed the order for a hitch for my Ascent Subaru and believe it or not the order was filled the same day. Now that’s a first. After reviewing the etrailer how to’s i started the installation. The video recommended putting blue painters tape on the car at the seam where the fascia would be removed. I was a little concerned about removing paint when the tape was removed. I put the tape on the car and did not have scratches and it came off with no problems. It took me a little over an hour to install the hitch. Don’t question this purchase just buy it, you wont be sorry.

by:
2016 Subaru Forester

Wow! Great product for price. But it was the how to videos that really make this company the best place to buy a hitch. Watched the video, spent 2 hours putting mine on, no issues. I did a thing!!

by:
2015 Subaru Outback Wagon

Love the plug and play! However, buyer should be aware that drilling is needed and needs to be included in tools section of instructions. Drill a pilot hole for grounding screw. Accessing the plug under the trim in at 2015 Outback can be troublesome.

by:

The Curt T-Connector was an exact fit for my vehicle. Easy to install. Great price. I was able to add a hitch and wire harness in less than an hour an was off legally towing my trailer. Thanks etrailer for great products, great pricing and fast shipping.

by:

Overall a, a good product, suggesting drilling a screw into sheet metal was n ot what I consider a good recommendation. There is a bolt very near that would work perfectly. I had to remove the ring connector, and put one of my own on to get the correct size, not a big deal, the rest was plug and play.

by:
2019 Subaru Forester

Easy to install, even the videos that came with it was super to follow and when I was installing my tow hitch I figure it out where I can run the cable instead of just having it run from the trunk, I’m just worried that it’s gonna brake from time but I figure to wired it elsewhere

Thank you for your feedback. I wanted to assure you that the weather stripping will protect the harness wires. The wiring is free to move in and out with little resistance that will work long term for you.

Great quality hitch receiver! Installed it on my Subaru, fit perfect, easy install. I use this quite a bit to haul a 5x7 trailer or our 17' boat.

by:

The installation information is rock solid, and it is an easy project to do yourself. I am NOT mechanically inclined, but that doesn’t matter for this project; you just have to follow the steps and think logically. After using it a year I have had no issues. I did find it to be helpful to zip tie the harness to the hitch receiver so that the connector is easy to find, out of the way, and easily accessible.

2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

5 stars for the wiring harness which works just fine in my 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. The install took some time though (more than it took to install a Curt hitch) because it was hard to locate and expose the car's wiring connector. Would give the install a 3 star for that. The harness instructions have pictures showing where to find that connector behind a panel covering the left rear wheel well. But you don't know exactly where behind that panel, and it's a tight squeeze getting your hand & forearm in there to find it. A small mirror helped. The harness is looped back on itself so you won't see the connector, look for the loop and maybe some blue tape which holds the loop. It's finding that loop that took the time.
I routed the harness out through a rubber plug in the spare tire well. It's easy & much neater than running it under the tailgate when you're towing. Remove the rubber plug, slice it from the center to one edge so you can get the wiring harness into it. Figure out how long a wire you need outside the car, reinstall the plug, and seal around the wire with 100% silicone caulk.
I connected the grounding wire to an existing bolt inside the car (just secure with a second nut) rather than drilling a new screw hole.

2015 Subaru Forester

Watch the short video, and simply install it. It's that easy! For my installation, I opted to Velcro the converter box to the inside of the rear trim panel, instead of using the two-sided adhesive that came with this product.

It is highly recommended that you spend the money to purchase a trim panel removal tool, which I found to be pretty inexpensive -$10.00. It really makes the job totally easy and professional looking.

Easy installation. For the 2020 Outback, instructions were wrong about location of connection. Subaru moved the harness connection to the passenger's side, against the rear of the space for the spare tire. See Image.

This item was purchased for a Subaru to haul a motorcycle trailer. Easy to install and works great.

by:

the product was great, but I was unable to install it as my 2016 Subaru Outback did not match the very-specific vehicle video on the e-trailer website. The Subaru dealer was not helpful either. I was not able to locate the wire harness in the car where the video said it would be--just not there. I would return it, but the packaging is all opened up.
