Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.
SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.
The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.
The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.
These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).
SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.
The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

2,800-lb Capacity. Upgrade your vehicle's rear suspension with these maintenance-free helper springs. Sturdy microcellular urethane springs cushion bumps and help support a heavy load to level your ride and minimize sway. No-drill installation.2015 Frontier Crew cab Desert Runner (purchased the yellow Sumo Springs). Easiest install ever! 18mm deep socket and long breaker bar for breaking nuts loose. Removed factory bumpstop, install sumo bracket and retighten U bolts to 58 foot pounds. After installing both brackets, lifted back of truck up 4 inches to install sumo spring with blue lock tight on bracket bolt, tighten sumo spring onto bracket and lowered truck off the jack. Overall it raised the back of my truck bed 1 inch. Ride is stiffer with no bed roll in the turns. Loaded my 24 foot travel trailer with load leveler- equalizer bars and gained 3 inches (less “squat”.) Truck is level now vs nose high (without the sumo springs). Definitely an upgrade that was needed in 2015 when I first bought the truck!!!
We pull an off-road teardrop camper with our 2013 Toyota Tacoma and were looking for a little help with the rear end sag when we have that hitched plus putting some weight in the back of the truck (firewood, water, etc). Our Tacoma is lifted (2.5") but the lift kept the stock springs with an added Deaver leaf to help with the notoriously soft Toyota springs. However, with the shell and ~300 pounds of weight in the back, it still sagged, especially with another 250 lbs of tongue weight from the trailer. The Sumos have eliminated that sag, even with bigger loads in the bed, eliminated body roll (also notoriously bad with Tacomas) and didn't destroy the ride for day to day driving. There might be a slight bit more stiffness when hitting speed bumps, but definitely not bad at all. If anything, I would say it IMPROVED the ride and handling.
The springs themselves were simple to install, less than half an hour start to finish. Some reviews have said they were bumping the frame after installing but we had about 1/2" gap on both sides. The only "specialty" tool would be a torque wrench capable of 90 lbs to get it to spec.
We considered Firestone air bags but after talking with the reps at e-trailer, we decided on these and couldn't be happier. Reasonably priced (half the price of air bags), no maintenance, great customer service...can't argue with anything at all.
Put these on my 05 Nissan Titan, install was very easy took 30 min. To install! Needed these since I pull my Travel Trailer and load my golf cart in the bed of my truck and the squat was terrible. Now there is no squat and a much better ride!
The springs have helped a lot. I haul a lot of extra weight such as fire wood and minerals for livestock. I chose the heaviest springs for this reason. My light truck rides better with extra weight than empty. When empty there is only a half inch of open clearance, unlike the 4 inches the stock bump pads offered. So since these springs are so tough it can be a bit of a rough ride. I should have gotten the lighter weight springs. Maybe one day.
2012 Nissan frontier installation was easy as advertised but I did have to remove U-bolts (one at a time) because the sumospring mounting brackets are beefier (thicker/taller) than stock. My ride is stiffer, bed height slightly higher, but sagging and sloppy ride issues are improved. I am happy with this product and recommend.
Tow with a Toyota Tundra. Bought new travel trailer which before the Sumo Springs would sag 5". After Sumo Springs, the sag was only 3"! Ride and stability is much better also. Highly recommend.
I bought the heaviest rated for my tacoma. They do great, keeping it from squatting. I would recommend going with the lighter rated ones, because the truck rides like a tank.
Pretty simple to install.
They work fine with my Toyota Tundra.
Helper springs work as described and do help reduce bottoming out, sway, rocking back & forth wile maintaining close to a factory ride level with a 1100 lb load. But I was hopeing the springs would reduce the bounciness after going over a dip more than than do.
I tow a fifth wheel that is at the limit of what my Tundra is suppose to handle. The Sumo springs took out nearly all of the “squat” and the truck handles very well. No noticeable difference when running light.
2009 Tacoma Offroad TRD DCSB
Needed to correct squatting under load, and when towing small travel trailer. Install was easy and straight forward. Stock U-bolt nuts use 19 mm deep well sockets for removal and replacement. Sumo spring required jacking up the frame a couple of inches to allow install above leaf springs. Torque nuts to 90 ft-lbs. Need to re-torque after 500 miles. Highly recommend.
There doing what is was fabricated for, handled one ton no problem.
While I’m a fan of the folks at etrailer this purchase was a disappointment. Neat concept but didn’t work out for me. First off, after installed the ride in the truck was unbearable. I had them installed for only 3 weeks and could not wait to have them taken off. Never got to tow with them as the ride was that bad. When they took them off, the bolt up through the middle broke right off. I guess that’s how tight they were between the leaf spring and where the bump stop was. Shame though, I was really looking forward to having a better towing experience.
After I’ve installed a Decked system and an ARE cap I felt my truck saggy, driving on a pronounced curve I didn’t even feel safe... I have installed the Sumosprings this morning and It’s amazing, I feel my truck now like It doesn’t carry any load at all, I feel the driving like before added the load. Great product. Thanks.
I've had these for 1 year now for my 2016 Tundra and they are exactly what I needed!!! I couldn't be happier! Prior to purchasing and installing these, when I towed my 2 horses with my 2 horse slant bumper pull trailer, I was concerned about cargo weight in the bed of my truck so I was limited to gear I could bring camping and hunting season with my truck. Since adding these I can pull the horses and load my truck bed to the max including horse feed, hunting gear, coolers with food you name it and my truck doesn't even squat a bit! The ride is great with a load or without and my performance off road is still fine too!
These proved to be a great solution to my needs and frankly better than pricey air bags.
Easy to installed and work as advertised. Very Happy!
I’m very pleased with the easy installation, workmanship. They are holding up well, they carry the trailer load very, I’m very satisfied and would be a repeat customer.
Great product, noticed a big difference. Tundra long bed with 600lb camper shell topper on it.
Just installed the springs yesterday’. I hooked up my Ice castle and only had 1 inch suspension drop. Ride is a little rough but that was to be expected. Only pulled the castle about 20 miles but so far so good.
Added the SumoSprings to my Tacoma because I'm pulling an RV trailer. Springs helped in keeping the trailer level and gives the track better stability. I would recommend this product to any one pulling a heavy trailer with a Tacoma.
I have a 2010 Nissan Titan and just want to say that I am very satisfied with the quality of the product which I received pretty quick. The instructions were simple and straight forward and installation was easy. I would recommend this product to anyone in need of these.
I have had a set of these on both my Tacoma and Tundra and love them. Highly recommend.
It was very easy to install. So far, I haven’t driven my truck because they were delivered yesterday and I installed them last night after work. The installation took about 45 minutes including reading the instructions. After I removed the jack, I noticed the bed was sitting a bit higher. I will be hauling my dump trailer with a full load to the dump tomorrow so I guess we’ll see if it makes a difference. I’m sure it will!
Couldn’t decide between the blue and yellow springs, bought both and switch them out when I need to haul my 5500lb trailer. I have a friend with the same truck (tundra) and he got airbags. The ride in his truck is terrible when not loaded down. The yellow springs are great for towing and the blue give you a better ride, no sag when loaded down.
They are no longer yellow in color after 1 year they look burnt brown. They hold up the vehicle rear perfectly or as advertised. However the vehicle ride is jarring and bumps hard over speed bumps, the ride quality degradation should be mentioned as a compromise.
