An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to look at the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part number TDRTT1500.This is what the inaudible 00:00:08 Timbren spring looks like when it's installed on a truck. You can see it fits into a factory fitting right here and it's almost an instant upgrade to your truck. Now sitting on here you'll notice that it has a gap right here. The idea here is that when you're driving down the road with an unloaded truck, the suspension can travel freely before it hits the spring here. And when you do load your truck up, then the springs starts to work as needed. So when you use your truck like a truck, what's going to happen is that this is going to make contact here. It's not going to keep it the same ride height, but when you have it fully loaded, your truck's going to handle a lot better without any help at all.Couple key points about our spring here, is that it's made out of complete rubber construction, but it's not just some rubber block that's here.

It's actually into a design of it. inaudible 00:00:54 bellow here. How the shape of it kind of goes in and gets wide, gets narrow again. It's a little progressive. So as you use it, if you just need a little-bit of spring, it's just going to help just a little-bit.

The more it compresses, the more it works. And the more stiffer it gets, it allows it to become an active part of the suspension and helps hold the load.Let's compare our original component to our Timbren rear suspension system. Original component here. This bump stop is designed for overload situations so when you hit a bump and it keeps your suspension from collapsing all the way and stops right here at the safety. That's all really it's good for.Our Timbren here is a lot better set up.

First off, you can see how much taller it is when I hold them up together. This will start working a lot sooner and becomes an active part of your suspension during the whole process where it goes up and down. When we put our truck through a test course, we'll have this weight in the back of our truck. We'll show it before Timbren is installed and we'll show our weight in the truck after Timbren is installed and you can see how the suspension works both ways. Now if you driving over a test course, without the Timbren's installed and stock configuration you can feel everything. The truck will roll back and forth a little-bit. You feel the weight in the back of the truck and it's kind of wanting to steer the truck back there. Now for Timbren springs installed in the truck, we'll go through a test course one more time.

The best thing I can tell you out of this, it does feel controlled. We do still feel the bumps just like before, but the big payoff here is that I feel much more in control going over the bumps. Now we compared this to our original suspension equipment that was in the truck and we see how much better it is. Now you may have also considered these against airbags. Airbags are great for a situation where you're going to change the load in your truck quite frequently and you're going to use your truck heavy duty situations or heavy towing all the time. That's great. However, if you're a normal guy like me that uses my truck every now and then, I occasionally put something in the back of it, I use these myself. I don't want to mess with keeping a minimum air pressure and checking that all the time in my truck because I won't be using it in that fashion all the time. This is much easier and a much quicker way and an effective way to enhance the suspension on your truck and really virtually no maintenance. Just keep an eye on it. Make sure it's clean just like the rest of your truck. Now this part is also great for commercial applications as well as according to Travis. I haul commercial tires for a living so I needed a boost to suspension on my 1500. That said the Timbren product has worked flawlessly. Then one year later, we checked in with Travis and he had this to say, "Timbren did a great job with this product. I've noticed there's no wear on the spring helper. I haul commercial tires every day. If anything, they're even better now. A great product."That'll finish it for a Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part number TDRTT1500.

So far the easiest install I have ever encountered!! Took 15 only because I had to move jack to otherside otherwise in under 10 minutes. I have yet to place trailer on truck, tomorrow is the big test, we'll see how it handles.... huge difference from old one to these, so I expect a huge improvement.... 525532

TRS system makes the Ram truck drive smooth and stable while towing the travel trailer (7000lb. ) . The squatting is hard to notice anymore . Glad I purchase the TRS stops for the truck . Very please with the product so far .My friend and I installed them with-in 10 minutes . We use his car lift . Took longer to put the truck on the lift , then install the stops . It took awhile to receive them in the mail . Don't know why , etrailer usually arrives quick . 506020

Super easy to install. When loaded it keeps the truck level and provides excellent handling with no truck roll. The only reason I can't give it a 5 star is when the truck is empty the product will hit the real axle when going over bumps and jar you a little. Other than that excellent product and totally worth the price. 414349

Good product! This solved my "sag" and loss of front end control while towing. Much cheaper than buying a new truck...I did get more negative feedback from road conditions but got rid of the bounce from weight moving off and on the front axle. Picture is from before installation. 538781

Works great so far ill find out when my 30foot foot campers hooked up but for a 16foot trailer with a rzr and quad up on it it did its job. Not 5 stars because i think this is a 150 to 175 priced product 433171

Tow vehicle: 2018 ram crew 6.5 box 5.7 hemi v8 3.92 rear end max tow 9820 lbs Trailer: 2018 Cougar 27 RES, tw 830lbs, empty 6500lbs, gvw 8,800 lbs Equilizer E4 weight distribution hitch Before installing the Timbren I experienced 5 inches drop even with the E4 hitch. Towing in a 20 mph cross wind was difficult above 55 mph, 18 wheelers sucked me over as they passed. After installing the Timbren I had a 2 inch drop, cross winds are much easier to handle and there's hardly any suck when a truck passes. I've towed the trailer 1500 miles so far on the Timbren. They are easy to install on the Ram and worth every penny they cost. Thanks Etrailer for once again giving me great advice and saving me lots of money by not buying air bags. These work just as well, are maintainence free and far cheaper than air bags. 520804

I was looking for something for my 2016 Ram 1500 to level out the ride when pulling my travel trailer 33'. I considered the different types of air bags as I had success with them on my Ford. However the installation on the air bags is lengthy. I read up on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System and decided it was worth a try. The installation says 15 minutes and that is not a joke. All you need is a floor jack and a couple of 2x4's. It took 15 minutes including getting the jack out and put back. Then I hooked up the trailer and the ride height is perfect, it also improved the overall ride when towing. Great product! 274038

Put a pair of TDRTT1500 on my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with a mounted veterinary box. Weight about 1200 lb. Easy to pull original spring, jacked up rear, slipped product in and set back down onto spring and wiggled bumper to seat. Truck now sets level as it should. Great improvement in ride. Stiffer ride, corners better. Made several calls to company. Each time got the right answer. I was skeptical about how easy it would be to do. Done in 20 minutes. Made a believer out of me. Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Solid Product! Yeah it's a stiffer ride when loaded But that's the sacrifice made to have more control of the haul while underway. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay more level with a heavy boat/trailer setup as in my case. Not that install is hard but removal of spare tire before install, may have helped with space if you don't have a lift. 511931

Product was easy to install, 1/2 hr taking my time. Used a open end wrench and floor jack. My 2018 F350 Super Duty Super Cab 4wd no longer plunges over bumps, it has lost all its rear end sway on turning, carries my load much smoother ( loaded all the time ). Even with the load I always carry, the vehicle sits 1” higher in the rear. Prior to the install I was constantly hitting the rubber stops on my factory overload springs. 520123

I ordered timbrens for the front and rear of my chevy 2500. I have a 2000 lb truck camper and I wanted something to help carry the load a little better. I had bought these timbrens and the weight safe hitch with the 8” drop from etrailer. I was quite please by both products. Installation of the timbrens was very easy, only took 30-40 minutes to change out bump stops in my garage.I hauled a Uhaul trailer with a Jeep over 300 miles, with no issues. The timbrens worked great, no issues with the rife. And I really like the weight safe hitch. I recommend checking out these two products from etrailer. Thanks etrailer. 642864

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Just finished installing Timbren's in the rear of my Ford E-450 motorhome. The installation was very easy. The hardest part was lifting up the motorhome so the rear tires were off the ground. I always install Timbren's on all my pickup trucks, and have always been extremely happy with them, so when I bought a motorhome, that was one of the first things I did. Because my motorhome came from the manufacturer with helper springs which increased the height or clearance, the Timbren's were not in constant contact, so I purchased and install a 1" spacer (part number A25723-90AH00). Now the Timbren's are in constant contact and will maintain the correct height and not sag under load. I love Timbrens! 643600

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I've had the Timbrens installed for about a year now and can report that they have done exactly what I wanted from them. The install was pretty easy (did it in the driveway using my creeper). My F350 was squatting a bit from the 3000# pin weight and I wanted to reduce that. Unloaded I can't tell they are there unless I hit a pretty big bump and when we're hitched they eliminate most of the squat and the truck is now pretty level when towing. I was thinking about installing air bags but went this route since it was simple and cost less. It's a great product! I've read some complaints about a rough ride when unloaded and I think that's due to not getting the unloaded gap right during installation. Submitting an "Installed" pic. 639141

These do really well for supporting a full load or trailer attached. But if unloaded the will create whiplash if you go over a speed bump or anything that creates the axle to spring up and hit them. 611025

Installed on my 2007 Ram 3500 because I wanted basic leveling & stability under the load of my 5th wheel. I didn't want a complicated air bag system. Summer trips in the mountains of MT & the Pacific NW. 3 months of snowbirding throughout southern AZ this winter. Very satisfied, so I just swapped them onto my new 2018 Ram 3500. I didn't let them go with my trade-in. Just what I need, no effect when empty - engaged when I need them. 628560

I installed these on my 2012 Ford F250 because I have two friends who have them on their trucks and they pull a travel trailer and a fifth wheel camper. I was impressed with the difference it made compared to my truck and camper Parked next to theirs'. I am mechanic and I see no reason why anyone would have trouble installing these them selves. Clean off the Nut and end of bolts before trying to loosen. Spray some WD-40 on the threads. Put on some gloves and use a 15mm wrench to loosen factory nut. Be sure to hold up on the factory bump stop because it has a line up pin that keeps it from turning as you loosen the nut. The driver side is a little more aggravating to get to because of wiring harness but there's plenty of room to use a wrench first then a 3/8" drive rachet and short extension with a good 6point 15mm standard depth socket will speed up removal. Then installing the new parts is a breeze. Just follow directions or etrailer videos on YouTube. Took longer to remove factory bump stomps than to install new ones. Maybe 45 mins total on original ones maybe. Then after preassembly of new ones, it took maybe 20 mins to install completely. Give yourself 1:30 hrs of time and enjoy your truck not sagging around town when loaded. 654107

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

This product seems as described in etrailer catalog and by salesperson. Very easy to install, both sides and clean up 30 minutes (actual install time was about 15-20 minutes). My truck has 100 gal fuel cell and tool box that is pretty full, so I generally have an extra 1200 lbs in bed of truck full time. Looking at truck it sits level instead of rear sitting up a little, not a big deal except headlights aim a little higher and when pulling trailer with skid steer or mini, truck sags an amount that looks overloaded. After installed truck bed height looks close to an unloaded truck. With full fuel cell the truck rests on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, I was pleasantly pleased with the ride and look of the truck. The only minor difference is when truck comes to complete stop, there is a slight "jiggle" in truck. Very minor but it is noticeable. I would definitely recommend and purchase again. I can't wait to see how system performs with loaded trailer hooked up. 594996

The Timbren suspension was delivered on time . The unit was installed using the instructions provided and took about 45 minutes for both sides of the rear axle. I have not put a load on the truck yet to see how it works. There is about 1" of clearance between the rubber timbren stops and the frame of the truck,so it hasn't affected the way the truck handles for now,I'll be able to tell more about it once I hitch my Travel Trailer up.The installation was done on a 2017 Nissan Frontier. 621664

This product has performed exactly as advertised. We pull a fifth wheel rv with a hitch weight of 2300 pounds. After adding the Timbren Rear Suspension System to our Ford F-250, our truck sits perfectly level when hooked up. We feel that it was a much more cost effective way to keep our truck level as opposed to installing an air bag system. 344559

Comments

I still like the suspension product that I purchased from Timbren. It helps keep my vehicle level when we tow our 12,500 lbs fifth wheel RV with a hitch weight of about 2400 lbs, although when I purchased the product we were towing a lighter model. I have been thinking about ordering the heavier duty model you offer to help off set the increase in weight of our new trailer.

The installation took about a half hour on our 2006 Winnebago View. I did not need to remove the tires, just jacked it up enough to unload the suspension a bit. The upgrades have quieted down the front suspension both reducing hard suspension hits and body lean. The front of the View is definitely more settled. Pros: Simplicity, and ease of install. measurable difference in RV suspension performance. Cons: expensive for what they are. The long bolts used do not inspire confidence. 220089

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Product seems to be high quality and the delivery was fairly quick. Extremely easy for me and my 12 year old son to complete in less than a half hour. Just put them on today so won't know how well they'll work until I put a load on the truck. I had the Timbren's on my 1997 Ford F-250 and they worked great so I'm hoping for the same results. 391227

So far they have been great we towed our 5th wheel to the east coast from California and they were great.

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

The product first arrived in a damaged box with one of the washers missing, but ETrailer did resupply that. The hardest part was finding a shop able (needs the right tools to depress coil springs) and willing (a potential liability issue messing with suspension) to replace it for a reasonable cost. Eventually a local tire shop agreed to. This was for a 2014 Honda Odyssey, especially for pulling a pop-up. Took two camping trips last summer, one before and one after installation, and I have been pleased with the added stiffness in the rear suspension. It made about 1 to 1.5 inch of difference in resting position when fully loaded and towing and has helped smooth out bumps and humps in the road - both when towing and not. 589641

They worked great until one of the rubber coils fell off. The housing remained but the rubber coil fell off!!! Not worth the price. I would never buy this again. 483244

I can’t believe how effective these are on my F53 Ford based motorhome, the before and after is night and day. I would not want to be riding down the road without it. 551279

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Choosing Timbren Suspension Enhancement for a 2018 Ram 1500
  • The correct Timbren kit for your 2018 Ram 1500 depends on the truck's cab length. The gap between the frame and bump stop's contact point is larger on the regular cab models. If your truck has a Regular cab the you want to go with part # TDR1500DS. If not instead use part # TDR1500DQ. Finally, part # TDRTT1500 is designed to be used under constant load like if you have a truck bed camper or a tow truck.

  • Difference of Timbren Rear Suspension System # TDRTT1500 and # TDR1500DQ on 2011 Dodge Ram Crew Cab
  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDRTT1500, and part # TDR1500DQ, will fit your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4WD. The # TDRTT1500, system is rated at 7,000-lb capacity and considered a severe service application. It was designed for tow truck, dump truck, and trucks that will use a slide-in camper, and have a weight in the bed a majority of the time. The # TDR1500DQ, system has a 6,000-lb capacity and is designed for somebody that might haul or tow on the weekends....

  • Difference Between TDR1500DQ and TDRTT1500 Timbren Kit for 2013 Ram 1500
  • The difference is the weight capacity of each. They both fit the 2013 Ram 1500 like what you have, but the part # TDRTT1500 has a 7k lb capacity and the # TDR1500DQ has a capacity of 8,600 lbs. For what you are doing the lighter capacity will be the way to go. It will give you the support you need but won't be nearly as harsh as the 8.6k kit.

  • Recommended Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2017 Ram 1500
  • For your 2017 Ram 1500 Express 4x4 you will want to use the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ. These springs offer a direct bolt-on installation that will not require any drilling. The kit comes with everything needed for installation except common tools likes sockets and wrenches. There is a kit that will fit and bear more weight in the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDRTT1500 but I do not recommend using them as they would take much more...

  • Recommendation for Rear Sag on a 2015 Ram 1500 CrewCab With Bed-Slide In
  • Good news, I can help you pick out the right vehicle suspension for your setup. The Timbren Suspension systems are an easy no drill solution to correct the issue you are having. I would recommend the # TDRTT1500, because they will help bear the weight of your heavy load day in and day out, and provide the closest distance to factory height like you requested. It is important to note that even after installing this suspension enhancement you should not exceed the weight-carrying capacity...

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Helper Springs for a 2014 Ram 1500 2-Wheel Drive
  • For your 2014 Ram 1500 2-wheel drive I recommend the SumoSprings # SSR-307-40. This type of spring will have a little more give compared to other styles of jounce springs so when you are not towing or carrying a camper in the bed the unloaded ride quality won't be as stiff. I would avoid air bags since your truck has rear coil springs and the air bags for those can get damaged since they fit inside of the coil springs. The exception though is Air Lift kit # AL57370 which mounts to the...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement For 2014 Dodge Ram 1500
  • It sounds as though your weight distribution system may not be big enough for your trailer and load. I attached a link to a helpful article that explains weight distribution. I also attached a helpful article that explains how to determine tongue weight. After you find out what your tongue weight is let me know and I will be happy to make a recommendation for a system that will work for you. For an easy installation on your 2014 Ram 1500 I recommend using the Timbren suspension system...

  • Which Timbren Suspension Kit to Use for 2015 Ram 1500 Carrying 2,100 lb Slide in Camper
  • For your 2015 RAM 1500 I would recommend the Timbren kit part # TDR1500DQ. The part # TDRTT1500 that you referenced is for severe duty vehicles and would give you a very harsh ride. The part # TDR1500DQ will give you the suspension support you need but won't be harsh like the other kit. This kit would be perfect for you because of that. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

  • High Capacity Suspension Enhancement for a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500
  • The frame and suspension is different between the 1500 and 2500 series 2012 Dodge Ram so the parts are not interchangeable. But if you want the most capacity for a 1500, take a look at the Timbren springs # TDRTT1500. These guys are rated for 7,000 pounds and would be ideal for beefing up your suspension. The Timbren springs will provide leveling support independently of each other, increase stability and ride quality, and reduce side to side body roll. I have included a link to an...

  • Differences Between Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems for 2011 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4
  • If you are looking for something that will take out the squat at the rear end of the truck when connected to a travel trailer then the best option is weight distribution. But if it is a 5th wheel trailer you will be towing then suspension enhancement would be the way to go. The difference between Timbren systems # TDR1500DQ and # TDRTT1500 subtle. Basically, the one you will want is # TDR1500DQ rated for 6K. The other kit, # TDRTT1500, is designed for service vehicles only like utility...

  • What Is the Correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System For a 2WD 2019 Ram 1500
  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDRTT1500 that you ordered is for service trucks so it would not have been a good choice for your 2019 Ram 1500 because they would have been engaged pretty much all the time making for a rough ride. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ is what you want and these will sit about 1"-1-1/2" away from the contact point so they will only engage when you need them.

  • As long as your 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn does not have the factory air suspension you can install a Timbren kit like the part # TDRTT1500. Your Big Horn model did have air suspension as an option but it was not standard. Only model that had it standard was Limited Elite model.

  • Timbren Suspension Kit Recommendation for 2013 Dodge Ram 1500
  • I have a Timbren suspension solution available for your 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 but since you have a regular cab the part # TDR1500DQ would not be it. Instead you would want the part # TDRTT1500 which does fit the regular cab and would work very well. You would not need to go with different coil springs.

  • Recommendation for Stability While Pulling Flagstaff Travel Trailer with 2010 Dodge Ram
  • Using a weight distribution system and suspension enhancement together can cause the two systems to work against each other, so you won't get the full benefits of either system. Your first line of defense against trailer sway is proper loading of the trailer. The tongue weight should be 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. Heavier items on the bottom and the weight evenly distributed. This is a little harder to do on a travel trailer as opposed to a cargo or flat trailer. Also...

  • 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Squats when Towing Livestock Trailer
  • When vehicle squat is caused bu the tongue weight of a trailer the best solution is to use weight distribution on the trailer. Weight distribution will distribute the tongue weight of the trailer more evenly to all axles of the tow vehicle and trailer and take care of that squat. In order to determine the correct system for you I would need to know the total tongue weight. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and adding to that the...

  • Shocks on 2015 Ram 1500 Feel Like They are Shot Even After Using Suspension Enhancement
  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDRTT1500 that you purchased, or any suspension enhancement for that matter, is designed to help improve your suspension, handling, and safety. These just add some extra cushion to help absorb shock for when you hit bumps or are driving on rough roads. They will fit your 2013 Dodge Ram if it is a 1500 crew cab with coil springs. However, these springs are meant for service vehicles like dump trucks, fire trucks, and so on. If you have trouble with this then you can spray the cup down with a soapy water solution. There are no tools required for this but a pry bar could help if the spring gets stuck in the cup. It will not void any warranties. I have attached a video of the install process which if reversed will show...
