An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Needed a bit more when we had our truck camper loaded. These did the trick. We took them to our tire store - they installed them in 20 minutes - total charge for installation (plus a tire rotation) - $28! Appreciated the quick delivery and helpful pointers when calling eTrailer for advice when we were placing the order. 655064

2012 Dodge Ram Pickup

Put a pair of TDRTT1500 on my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with a mounted veterinary box. Weight about 1200 lb. Easy to pull original spring, jacked up rear, slipped product in and set back down onto spring and wiggled bumper to seat. Truck now sets level as it should. Great improvement in ride. Stiffer ride, corners better. Made several calls to company. Each time got the right answer. I was skeptical about how easy it would be to do. Done in 20 minutes. Made a believer out of me. 2015 Ram 1500

Good product! This solved my "sag" and loss of front end control while towing. Much cheaper than buying a new truck...I did get more negative feedback from road conditions but got rid of the bounce from weight moving off and on the front axle. Picture is from before installation. 538781

Dodge Ram Pickup

Took longer to take it out of the box than to install them on my ram 1500... dish soap and twist and upward pressure with both hands(if your tough enough) and “presto” the job is done. About 1 1/2” clearance (bottom of new bump stop to top of axel) when empty and a little over 1 3/4” drop with a 16’ enclosed trailer weighing 4400#s totally loaded. Rides great and stabilized the truck. 771782

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

I was looking for something for my 2016 Ram 1500 to level out the ride when pulling my travel trailer 33'. I considered the different types of air bags as I had success with them on my Ford. However the installation on the air bags is lengthy. I read up on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System and decided it was worth a try. The installation says 15 minutes and that is not a joke. All you need is a floor jack and a couple of 2x4's. It took 15 minutes including getting the jack out and put back. Then I hooked up the trailer and the ride height is perfect, it also improved the overall ride when towing. Great product! 274038

Excellent upgrade for 2019 RAMs hauling heavy payload or trailers. Must have rear suspension improvement from OEM bump stops. I've used Timbren on 2013 and 2019 trucks with great results. I will continue to use Timbren on my trucks in the future. 672767

Super easy to install legit just poped out poped in no lift needed just crawled under and 5 mins it was done. Works great so far ill find out when my 30foot foot campers hooked up but for a 16foot trailer with a rzr and quad up on it it did its job. Not 5 stars because i think this is a 150 to 175 priced product 433171

2019 Dodge Ram Pickup

So easy to install , jacked up the back of the truck to get enough room to get the Timbren’s in. Stock bump stops just came right out with very little trouble. A little soap on the Timbren’s and pushed them in by hand. Used a little leverage to be sure they were seated and done. Haven’t loaded my car trailer yet, but took the truck down some roads with speed bumps to see if they hit, going fast you could feel them , not bad , but it was faster then you should take a speed bump. 2019 New Ram Hemi 718831

Tow vehicle: 2018 ram crew 6.5 box 5.7 hemi v8 3.92 rear end max tow 9820 lbs Trailer: 2018 Cougar 27 RES, tw 830lbs, empty 6500lbs, gvw 8,800 lbs Equilizer E4 weight distribution hitch Before installing the Timbren I experienced 5 inches drop even with the E4 hitch. Towing in a 20 mph cross wind was difficult above 55 mph, 18 wheelers sucked me over as they passed. After installing the Timbren I had a 2 inch drop, cross winds are much easier to handle and there's hardly any suck when a truck passes. I've towed the trailer 1500 miles so far on the Timbren. They are easy to install on the Ram and worth every penny they cost. Thanks Etrailer for once again giving me great advice and saving me lots of money by not buying air bags. These work just as well, are maintainence free and far cheaper than air bags. 520804

So far the easiest install I have ever encountered!! Took 15 only because I had to move jack to otherside otherwise in under 10 minutes. Haven’t put a load on them yet, eTrailer shipped them promptly, received them no problem. Have a 2017 Ram 1500 put them on, wasn’t quite as easy as described but not difficult. Soaped them up per instructions but still had to fight them a bit to get them to seat. Quick drive over some speed bumps finished the seat and it rode great. After reading some reviews on how bad ride quality became I was a little hesitant on this purchase. Knowing I had to do something, I pulled the trigger and I am incredibly glad I did. Installation took me literally 10 minutes. I took out original bump stops, installed one side and put a wood block underneath to "press it in" when I lowered the jack. It worked perfectly. I jacked it back up, removed block and repeated on the other side. The ride quality when unloaded is unchanged (except when you go over a really big bump). I have even towed my camper with them in now (7 hours worth) and they're fantastic! I would recommend to anyone! 831404

  • How to Choose the Correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement for a 2019 Ram 1500
If you have a 2019 Ram 1500 that is the standard pick-up truck, the correct Timbren system is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DQ, which were designed for standard trucks. The difference between these and the Timbren System # TDRTT1500 is that the latter is made for service trucks, like a tow truck. The reason for this is the design of the springs; if you take a look at the accompanying photo a customer sent in, you can see they are double convoluted, which means...

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDRTT1500 that you ordered is for service trucks so it would not have been a good choice for your 2019 Ram 1500 because they would have been engaged pretty much all the time making for a rough ride. I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDRTT1500 if you don't foresee heavier towing jobs in your future than the 4,500lb tank. The reason being, Timbrens will definitely stiffen your ride when towing which is exactly what they are designed to do with these providing up to 7,000lbs of capacity. However the tradeoff is you give some on ride qualty when not in use so upping the spring capacity is not always without some consequence. If you're only towing on the weekends,...

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDRTT1500 is rated for 7000 lbs and is designed for service vehicles which is why they stated heavy duty. They are designed for trucks with service bodies only. The # TDR1500DQ is rated for 8,600 lbs and is a fit for regular truck beds as long as the truck doesn't have a regular cab, so this would be a much better option for your crew cab and non-service bed application so that is my recommendation.
