Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

Video Transcript for SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs Review

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be taking a look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle. You'll want to use eTrailer's fit guide to determine the correct kit for your vehicle. This is what our SumoSprings look like when installed. Yours may look a little different depending on your vehicle. They're gonna replace our factory jounce stops and sit right between our frame and our rear axle. So whenever we're carrying a heavy load, they're gonna give us that extra support that we need. The way our SumoSprings are gonna work is when our suspension starts to sag from the heavy load, these are gonna absorb a lot of that weight. They are gonna work independently from each other so it's gonna help with those off-center loads.

Our springs are gonna have a progressive rate to 'em. So if we have a light load, they're gonna compress softly, still giving us that comfortable ride. But the heavier load we put on 'em, the more they're gonna compress and the more firmness they're gonna have to them. Now comparing to our factory jounce stop, you can see there's a big difference in height. These are gonna give us a lot more compression, whereas our factory jounce stops are really just preventing the axle from hitting the frame. We have a water tank at the bed of our truck as a heavy load or to simulate the tongue weight of a heavy trailer or a fifth wheel. So as I take the truck through my test course, I can definitely tell that there's a load back there.

The engine doesn't seem to be strained that much, but the bumps are extremely harsh and I can definitely feel it resonating through the seat. When I come to the slalom course and I'm going through the turns, it definitely has a lot of body roll and I just generally feel like I need to slow down because it feels likes it's leaning a lot and it's not responding quickly enough to the turns. Now that we have our SumoSprings installed and I have the same load back there, when I'm driving through our course, I can immediately tell a difference. It's much of a smoother ride. Going over the bumps really doesn't feel like anything's back there and it's just a lot more comfortable. When I come into the slalom course, it definitely feels a lot more stable and it doesn't seem to sway as much side to side and it just generally feels like it wants to go faster. These are made of a durable micro cellular urethane that works in temperatures from -25 degrees to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and resists damage caused by oils, road salts and UV rays. Compared to air bags, these are maintenance free option with no tubes to run or air pressure to maintain. Both will help level your load and provide a smoother ride.

Airbags can be adjusted to suit your needs whereas the SumoSprings are a fixed option. That completes our look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle.

2016 Toyota Tundra

I had these replaced on my 2016 Tundra SR5 4WD CREWMAX that I tow a 28 ft travel trailer. I had my local mechanic install, hour later, done. Test drove it on country road, WOW. It drove like a sports car. The rear end took the bumps and dips no problem. The new stop basically takes up all the clearance between the frame and the axle. The response of the new urethane stop is progressive; no load, slight interaction and the more up/down action of the truck, the more the reaction. Tundra owners know that the rear leaf spring suspension is soft, car like. I am gearing up for a cross country trip w/trailer this October. I'll update this review later. I chose etrailer over the online big box store, same price, free shipping, delivered a few days later. 561547

Worked great. California to Connecticut and back, all types of terrain and roads, truck n trailer behaved flawlessly. Even with my WDH and sway control adjusted properly, you will find yourself driving thru a dip in the road which could make your trucks rear end bottom out, which is why I opted for the Summo springs I dont need or want a 2500 series truckThis product works as it was designed and Im happy with it.

Got the SumoSprings 3 days after placing the order. Installed them on my 2009 Toyota Tundra in about 45 minutes, saved about 2.5" to 2.75" of sag with my trailer hooked up. Had 3/4" space between frame and spring when operating without trailer. 323053

100% stock 2017 Tundra SR 4WD V8. Bought these to provide a bit more stability when towing 27' 8600 GVW tag along camper usually running around 8000lb actual weight. Weight distributing hitch w/ sway control. Wasn't horrible before but wanted suspension stiffened up some. Easy to install if you have a torque wrench and the most basic of hand tools. Did exactly what I wanted it to do. 467194

Product was for a 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. I purchased these in preparation to haul a 25ft travel trailer. I was concerned that the installation of the Sumo Springs would affect the unloaded ride, so immediately after install I took the truck for a test drive and purposefully looked for and hit wholes along my drive. I am very pleased to report that the unloaded ride was not affected in the least. I have not picked up my travel trailer as of yet to report on how they did keeping the truck level with the trailer connected, but will provide an update once I have trailer and some additional miles on these. So far very pleased though delivered within the two day requirement I had. 379956

These Sumo springs are the real deal! Installed them on my Nissan Frontier that I tow a trailer with and instead of the rear dropping 2 1/2 inches it now only drops less than an inch. Originally tried to buy another big brand name but it said it wasn't compatible with my truck. These Summo springs are second to none. Took about 45 minutes to install. Very happy. Highly reccomend. 555739

This was the easiest thing to install i was done in ten minutes and that was only because i had the wrong size socket when i went under the truck and had get go get the other size. they clear very well. I will have my trailer on my truck soon and i know that this will work very well. I have tried many other things in the past i wish i had found this much sooner. this is on a 2016 toyota tundra and i pull a car trailer from time to time, the trailer is a tilt trailer and is heavy duty so it has some tongue weight, This will solve the problem i have with the truck sagging in the rear 274638

Simply Amazing, i ordered these from my Nissan titan to help with the SAG of my travel trailer. Before I had these, my truck would sag 3 1/2 inches considering my trailer was completely loaded and had a 450 pound tongue weight. After I installed them, my truck only sags about a half an inch. The control and ride with these is just simply amazing. Insulation was a breeze, Took less than 45 minutes for both sides. 635969

2009 Tacoma Offroad TRD DCSB Needed to correct squatting under load, and when towing small travel trailer. Install was easy and straight forward. Stock U-bolt nuts use 19 mm deep well sockets for removal and replacement. Sumo spring required jacking up the frame a couple of inches to allow install above leaf springs. Torque nuts to 90 ft-lbs. Need to re-torque after 500 miles. Highly recommend. 680497

Helper springs work as described and do help reduce bottoming out, sway, rocking back & forth wile maintaining close to a factory ride level with a 1100 lb load. But I was hopeing the springs would reduce the bounciness after going over a dip more than than do. 699567

I've had these for 1 year now for my 2016 Tundra and they are exactly what I needed!!! I couldn't be happier! Prior to purchasing and installing these, when I towed my 2 horses with my 2 horse slant bumper pull trailer, I was concerned about cargo weight in the bed of my truck so I was limited to gear I could bring camping and hunting season with my truck. Since adding these I can pull the horses and load my truck bed to the max including horse feed, hunting gear, coolers with food you name it and my truck doesn't even squat a bit! The ride is great with a load or without and my performance off road is still fine too! These proved to be a great solution to my needs and frankly better than pricey air bags. 673850

Comments

Were glad to hear that youre pleased with your purchase. Please keep in mind that the Sumo Springs product will not increase the capacity of your rear truck axle. The tongue weight of the trailer plus the weight of the cargo carried should not exceed the trucks rear axle capacity.

This helped so much with bounce. Install was very easy on my 2018 F150 did not even need to remove the tires even with the extra 1 inch spacer. Thing to remember when you install them you put the bolt in the right hole. If you dont it will not sit right on your axle when you put weight on it. After my long trip with TT my back end did not bounce like crazy. My tuck does not have max tow so suspension is not tight. This made it like i had max tow package. After my trip I removed 1 bolt and removed the 1 inch spacer and now back to normal ride. You can leave spacer on it will make ride a little stiffer. But wife did not like that. I don't mind removing 1 bolt and add/remove spacers when needed. Also no bag to pop or leaks. People that post pics or say did not site right. Only 2 things can cause that. 1. Put into wrong bolt hole when installing. 2. Too much weight. You can't go wrong with them. They do what they said they do. 705252

Put these in my 2007 Tundra. I could tell a great difference just rounding corners with stability with out a trailer on. I like my trucks to ride like trucks and this for sure helped with that. 2011, F53, 22,000 lbs chassis. After having adjusted tire pressure, installing new shocks and a rear trac bar, these are the icing on the cake. I installed the front Sumo’s and was so impressed I immediately purchased the rears. The side-to-side sway is almost completely gone, my motorhome tracks so much better now, and it actually soaks up a lot more of the little bumps. I bought the sumo springs for the front of my 16 2500hd Duramax. The install was really simple Chanel lock pliers twist and pull old ones out and a little glass cleaner and a small pry bar pushed new ones right in. Went with the sumo springs over the timbrens cause I didn’t want the truck sitting on the stops and the sumo springs still have about 1 inch before they touch control arm so normal ride isn’t affected only have the added support when I install my V plow Very satisfied with etrailer and the sumo springs thank you 611056

Great service arrived in 3 days. Installed the Sumo springs last weekend. It was about a 15 minute job on a P32 chassis. I used the supplied spacers and it raised the rear end about 1/2 inch and really reduced the body roll. They replaced the stock rear jounce bumpers which were shot. This is what should have come on the motorhome from the factory. 151532

It was interesting to note the height of the OEM versus these springs - these are much longer. I installed these front springs and the rear springs together and they significantly reduced the roll in my class B rv. I was able to install these myself and, at least for me, it was a lot easier using a second person to hold the spring in place below while I installed the retaining nut above. I used the appropriate jack and jack stands. 591696

Shipped fast. Easy to install. Work seamlessly. I put these on a 2018 F150 HDPP. I wanted to retain the factory ride quality when empty and have more support when loaded near my GVWR. With the 1" spacer, they nearly touched the axle (1/8" space) and make the ride very firm. So I removed the 1" spacer and the ride quality was indistinguishable from stock on all but the largest bumps. These Sumosprings engage so smoothly that you can't feel the initial contact, it feels like the springs just get progressively stiffer at a rate that is faster than the stock springs alone. Note, I slightly rerouted a cable because I thought it might contact the Sumospring and wanted more clearance for piece of mind. I don't know if this is necessary on the f150 or not, but it I know others that have done this as well. This adds a little time to the install. But still under an hour including finding misplaced tools. 520312

My order arrived 4 days early, WOW. I did use 2 flat blade screw drivers to remove the old bumpers. When I installed the new Sumo Springs I put a little liquid soap on the top edges, this helped pop them in. I also used a piece of 2X4 to help push them in, and quickly released the floor jack and this seated them in fully. Quick install took about 20 min. I have less than 1" at the bottom. Unloaded ride is same as before. With my trailer attached (1200 LBS hitch weight) the short test drive I felt much better control and less bounce. Very happy with product and etrailer. Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

Great product ! Does all it claims and more than i expected. I leave my 5th wheel hitch mounted yr. round and haul bins of sand when I plow in the winter, so it's helping all the time. I can see and feel a difference in hauling our 30 ftr. Doesn't change the ride at all like just about anything else you'd need to do to get the help these give you. Easy install too! 347625

Still goin strong. I’ve had numerous campers even a Tundra owner inquire about what I’ve done to level my truck for the load. It totally out does more springs! When and if they fatigue, I’ll buy em again.

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

These work exactly as stated on my 2018 sprinter class C. They do not make the ride harsh at all. The yellows combined with an upgraded sway bar helped stop the sway of coming out of a driveway tremendously. Sway from wind and being passed by trucks was also greatly reduced. The addition of upgraded shocks make it so that I can drive one handed the majority of the time now. Recently had the chance to test these in a long run of coastal highway one in northern CA, they made the extremely windy road a pleasure to drive, even with the bad road conditions. Only scored a 4 and not a 5 because they do not solve all of the issues by themselves, but are an integral part of a total solution. 663600

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

08 Winnebago View on an 07 Sprinter chassis. To reduce the side-to-side rocking that is inherent in this tall, narrow, heavy vehicle, I decided to try the Sumo SSR-335-47's on the rear bumpstops. Using the vehicle bottle jack, I raised the rear tires almost off the ground, one side at at time, to provide enough room to fit the Sumos into place. The old bumpstops simply pop out with force from a couple of screwdrivers, and the Sumos simply slide into the existing brackets. The fit is precise and snug. I put soapy water on the brackets and applied a bit of force to wedge the Sumos into place. It's that simple. The difference is pronounced, with significantly less rocking over minor road undulations. I'm impressed with this product, and wish I'd done this simple modification long ago. 156528

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

This was a very easy install. It took less than an hour. I installed them on a 2018 Forest River Forester which is on an E450 chassis. My rig is equipped with Firestone airbags in the back so I only needed the Sumos in the front. I’m looking forward seeing how they improve the handling of my RV. I haven’t ventured out on the road. 538371

Great product. Really helps with front end sway. My Class C RV handles well. Sumo Springs have really paid off.

Easy to install. Helps with towing when carrying a load in the truck. Have had other systems in previous trucks but this one is my favorite. 472776

Ask the Experts about this SuperSprings Vehicle Suspension

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Differences Between the Timbren and SumoSprings for a 2012 Toyota Tundra
  • For your 2012 Toyota Tundra CrewMax, you will want to use part # TTORTUN4 for the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System or part # SSR-610-47 for the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs. Both of these options will provide you with additional support that will help to reduce rear end sag while towing. They will also both work to reduce body roll, improve stability, and increase the life of your existing suspension components. The Timbren springs have a weight capacity of 6,000...

  • Differences Between SumoSprings Kits for 2013 Toyota Tundra
  • The difference between the two SumoSprings Solos kits for your 2013 Toyota Tundra is the weight capacity for either. The part # SSR-610-47 provides 1,500 lbs of suspension support and the # SSR-610-54 has 2,800 lbs of capacity. Since you said you wanted a smoother ride the lower capacity # SSR-610-47 is the way to go. Heavier rated springs will make the ride bouncier or rougher.

  • Solution for 2017 Toyota Tacoma that Has Suspension Sag When Towing
  • For your 2017 Toyota Tacoma the correct SumoSpring kit is the part # SSR-612-47 and not the kit you mentioned as that is for the older models. This will reduce the sag but what you might be better off with is a weight distribution system since that reduces the sag too but in doing so helps improve braking and handling as it distributes some of the tongue weight up to the front axle. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of...

  • Recommendation to Improve Ride and Squat when Towing Travel Trailer with 2017 Nissan Titan
  • Installing a suspension enhancement system, such as the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-610-54, on your 2017 Nissan Titan will do a great job of supporting a heavy load and leveling your ride. These particular springs have a 2,800 pound capacity. The springs are a simple, no-drill installation and will replace the factory bumpstop on your Titan. With that being said, helper springs are designed more for supporting and suspending weight that is carried in the cargo area...

  • How To Prevent Sag on a 2001 Toyota Tundra TRD 4x4 While Towing/Hauling
  • I do have an option for you but I checked with Firestone and you are correct in that they do not list the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2245 as a fit for your 2001 Toyota Tundra TRD 4x4. I also checked with Air Lift and they do not offer any airbags for your vehicle either therefore I recommend taking a look at either the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TTORTUN4 or the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-610-47. The Timbrens and SumoSprings...

  • Can Spacers be Used with SumoSprings on a 2015 Toyota Tundra
  • There aren't any spacers for the SumoSprings # SSR-610-47 but there are for similar kits that will also fit your 2015 Toyota Tundra. You could use Timbren springs # TABSOSR with 2 of 1 inch spacer # A25723-90AH00. You may need to obtain longer bolts locally though to use the spacers.

  • Timbren or SumoSprings Recommendation for 2018 Toyota Tundra
  • I prefer the SumoSprings kits over the Timbrens for your 2018 Toyota Tundra. The reason I do is because the Timbrens have a reputation as being harsher when the truck is unloaded. So for your truck I would recommend the # SSR-610-47 which will give you the suspension support you want but without making your ride quality harsh when the truck isn't loaded.

  • SumoSprings Recommendation for a 2015 Toyota Tundra Towing 22 ft Camper with Dirt Bikes in Bed
  • For your 2015 Toyota Tundra I would recommend the heavier duty SumoSprings part # SSR-610-47 since you will be towing and carrying such a high amount of weight. The lighter duty part # SSR-610-40 would still help, but not nearly as much as you would need the HD version would be the one to use. You would only notice either of these springs if you were to hit a pretty large bump when unloaded.

  • Fit of SuperSprings SSR-610-47 Solo Helper Springs on 2014 Toyota Tundra w/ 1 Inch Lift
  • According to my SuperSprings representative, the 1 inch increase in ride height provided by the block won't do much to change the effectiveness of the # SSR-610-47 Solo Custom Helper Springs. As you can see in the photo I've provided, The spring sits about an inch below the frame member on a Tundra with a stock ride height. Your 1 inch lift will mean that the truck's suspension will need to compress a bit more before the Solo Springs come into effect.

  • Recommendation for Fighting Sag When Towing with a 2010 Toyota Tundra and Weight Distribution
  • Weight distribution (WD) systems actually take on the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle (your 2010 Toyota Tundra) as well as the tongue weight (TW) of the loaded trailer. This is why you are finding that your WD system isn't performing as well when you load down the bed of your pickup. For example, the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET has a TW range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs. If you were using this system and the 709 lb TW of your trailer plus the cargo behind the rear...

  • Will SumoSpring SSR-610-47 Have a Gap Between Vehicle Frame When Unloaded
  • They are 6 inches tall. You do want a bit of distance between the SumoSpring and where it would contact the vehicle. This allows the ride quality to not be affected when the vehicle is unloaded. You don't want the SumoSpring # SSR-610-47 making contact all the time as that will give you a very bumpy ride quality.

  • SumoSprings Recommendation for 2015 Ram 2500 Towing 8-9K Steel Trailer
  • I do have a solution for you, however the black SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-610-47 you referenced in your question are not a confirmed fit for your 2015 Ram 2500. The yellow SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-312-54 are a great option for your Ram 2500 for upgrading the rear suspension and keeping your vehicle level. These have a 2,800 pound capacity and the springs will help support the heavy load you're pulling and also minimize sway. They offer progressive...

  • Are the Light Duty and Heavy Duty SumoSprings the Same Height for a 2015 Toyota Tundra
  • Yes, I would say that is a fair assessment of SumoSprings # SSR-610-47. the capacity is higher as well at 1,500 pounds. And of course it also fits a 2015 Toyota Tundra. Both it and # SSR-610-40 even share the same instructions.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2010 Toyota Tundra
  • The # SSR-610-40 is the light duty SumoSpring available for your 2010 Toyota Tundra. These will have 1,000 lbs of support whereas the # SSR-610-47 would be considered the heavy duty version and would add 1,500 lbs of support. For you I would go with the heavy duty version. You should not that suspension enhancement does not allow you to carry loads heavier than what the current vehicle capacity is. It just provides more support to allow you to carry your capacity as safely as possible.

  • SuperSprings Rear Axle Helper Springs for 2016 Toyota Tundra 4WD Towing 7800-lb Car Hauler
  • Your Big Tex trailer with a 7800-lb loaded GVWR probably has tongue weight (TW) in the range of 900- to 1100-lbs so the SuperSprings rear-axle kit # SSR-610-47 you referenced is what I recommend. This 1500-lb-rated jounce spring kit will lend enough support to the rear suspension on the Tundra without being too stiff. Since the exact position of the Land Cruiser on the trailer can affect your tongue weight having the little bit of extra capacity is a good idea.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2007 Toyota Tundra
  • Suspension enhancement is a great way to reduce the sag from towing a heavy trailer. You have to keep in mind though that it does not give you more towing capacity than what your vehicle is rated for. It can basically only allow you to tow your trailer in a more level, safer manner. The ratings for the springs is the amount of additional support it can provide and not the total amount for the vehicle. The part # TTORTUN4 would be a great option that would give you 6k more support...

  • Recommended SumoSprings For Rear Axle Of A 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4
  • The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle, # SSR-610-40, are great jounce springs with a capacity of 1000 lbs at 50% compression. The # SSR-610-47 that you are referring to is a heavier-duty application with a 1500 lb capacity at 50% compression, and I recommend these if you will be doing a lot of hauling since they have a much stronger capacity, but for occasional hauling the 1000 lbs springs are more ideal and won't give as bumpy a ride when unloaded. These springs are...

  • SumoSpring Recommendation for 2006 Nissan Titan Using Weight Distribution
  • I prefer going with the lighter duty springs like part # SSR-610-40 as the lighter duty the SumoSpring is the better the unloaded ride quality would be. • If you are still experiencing sag after installing the helper leaf springs, I recommend to use the heavy duty SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-610-47 1,500 lb capacity to help eliminate the sag. • Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a 2004 Nissan Titan and 7,800 Pound Trailer

First though let's get you set up with a new weight distribution system. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow...
