Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for pickup trucks. Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the truck's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings Rebel installed showing separation of 2-piece springs

The innovative 2-piece design of these Rebel springs allows for unlimited suspension travel. This means that there will be more movement in your suspension when you're unloaded or off-roading, which makes your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Each spring has 2 pieces. One piece attaches to the frame of your vehicle. And the other piece attaches to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. The pieces come together to provide support when you are towing or hauling a heavy load. When you're unloaded, they separate so that they don't restrict the movement of your suspension. The closed-cell urethane springs also act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts, and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Review of SuperSprings Vehicle Suspension - Rear Axle Suspension Enhancement - SSR-203-47-2

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a quick look at the SumoSprings Rebel custom helper springs. So these are going to be a support for your suspension components in your vehicle. And this is a custom fit for the 2011 through the current Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra. That's for the 2500 and the 3500, again 2011 to 2020 are current. So basically, the idea with these, is that they're going to help to stiffen up our suspensions or our suspension components in our GM or our Chevy truck.

It's also there to provide a little bit of road cushion, as well. And just overall help to be a support. A lot of times whenever we're carrying a lot of heavy weight in our vehicle, it can wear out those OEM suspension components faster than they really should, so we're going to have these to be there as a support for those. They are going to help to level out our system somewhat, but they are going to be a relatively static system, so we can't really adjust these. Once they're in, this is pretty much how it is. But they are going to, as they compress, they do stiffen up, so the more weight you put on them, the more they're going to push back.

And their weight capacity whenever they're 50% compressed is going to be 5,000 pounds. Now the important thing to keep in mind with that number is that it's not going to increase your overall weight carrying capacity. It's not going to up your payload for your truck. So it's just there to provide that much reinforcement for your OEM suspension. The nice thing about it, is that whenever you have the lighter weight, so something that's not a super heavy, maybe just a little bit loaded down, they do move a little bit more freely, have a little bit more, give a little bit more bounce. And then as it gets heavier it compresses more.

And so there'll be a stiffer relationship between the two components. They do come separate. So if you're going over any big bumps, it won't limit the amount of travel that you get out of your suspension. They do also work independently, side to side and the really nice thing about these is that there's no maintenance required. So the big comparison for suspension components is going to be between something that's like these a spring system and an airbag system or air springs. The nice thing with air springs is that you can adjust them, that they have some versatility.

You can take out the air whenever you're not hauling things and load it up whenever you are. You can also adjust side to side for off-centered loads and things like that.We don't have that capability with these guys, but air springs do require maintenance. You've got to make sure that those airlines are going in the right place, they don't get damaged or kinked. Nothing happens to them. They don't come severed or get melted by your exhaust, if they're running a little bit too close to it, and things like that. You also have to make sure that you have a little bit of air in your bags at all times, so that they're not getting damaged or anything as you're going down the road.As I said, there's no maintenance required with these ones, you put them in there, they're pretty much good to go. There's nothing you really have to worry about ever again. They have a minimal lateral expansion so they're not going to pancake out and cause any issues between your tire or any other suspension components will stay relatively compact. And they're also resistant to any kind of a road salts, UV rays, things like that. They're really durable and should last for a long time. They are also covered by a lifetime warranty or a limited lifetime warranty from SumoSprings and also have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. So it just kind of depends on what you are going to be hauling. If you're going to have a more of a constant load in your truck, or you're going to have a lot of weight all the time, I would think that these would be a great option for you. If you have a bunch of toolboxes in the back of your truck and it's going to be modified more as a work truck, and you're going to have stuff in there all the time, this is a really great way to make sure that you're spreading the weight out of all that stuff across another component in your system, and that you're giving yourself a little bit more cushion for that.If you're going to be taking things in and out or just towing more occasionally, air springs might be a better choice. If you want to go that route, we do have a lot of options here at etrailer.com, but just something to keep in mind of like how are you going to be using it. And if you're going to have a constant load in your truck, a lot of weight, these are going to be a great option for you. But that being said, relatively straightforward install, just bolts right around your suspension components, so you shouldn't have any drilling. Just bolts right in place, comes to have hardware you see here, including a fun sticker. I like stickers, so I always like to point them out to people. And they are also made in the USA, which is always a nice thing to support our local guys here. So I hope this video has been helpful in determining if this is going to be the right kit for you. As I said, we do have a lot of other options available here at etrailer.com, if you're looking for something a little bit different. Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time.

Installation was quick and easy. the instructional videos were the deciding factor to purchase this product. after installation everything was just as claimed. adding a 2300 load in the bed of the truck cause very little squat and actually lowered the front about an equal amount (1" in the back and 1/4" in front). since 60-70% of the trucks braking is from the front wheels this was import to me. options were airbags, adding additional leaf springs or this option. I was cautioned that when your vehicle is service with airbags installed putting the truck on a lift for oil change for example you might tear the airbag. this option on a lift the two sections just separate and go back together when lowered. I was happily surprised by the side to side stabilization removing the need for additional suspension additions. ask me again after a year 656968

Received SumoSprings and installed them on Chevy HD2500 Duramax that same afternoon. Took about 1-1/2 hrs. and instruction was straight-forward. Watch etrailer [install video] first...it will save you some time. Will test out ride this weekend while pulling 5th wheel RV. 669626

The Sumo Springs made a big difference in the handling of my 38 ft class A. I had already put Sumo Springs on the rear along with an additional rear anti-sway bar, replaced the front ant-sway bar and added a steering stabilizer. Each item made improvements but the front Sumo Springs had the most impact. So much easier to drive. Installation was very easy and the online videos were helpful. I would highly recommend these. 672241

Drove our 38' class A gas coach for 6 months prior to installing Sump Springs. World of difference. Pulling from a parking lot to flat road used to involve 3 or 4 rock's left to right. That is gone. The porposing on the freeway is much better also. Overall feels more stable. Still shutters and has a truck like ride on rough roads and bridge abutments. 640809

Amazing! Installed Sumo springs on front of a new 2018 Thor 29.4. F53 frame. BEFORE was very unhappy with drive, could feel every imperfection on the road and steering was very unpredictable! AFTER: Dramatically eliminated the rough ride & steering issues . . . don't hesitate to buy these shocks you will be VERY HAPPY! My experience was so good I purchased the next week rear Sumo springs and the steering stabilize shock (much more improvements, but start with the front springs). 561311

The SumoSprings item #SSF-170-40-2, for my 2017 Georgetown GT3, with the F53 Ford chassis was very easy to order from etrailer.com and was shipped in a very timely manner. They came with easy to follow installation instruction. Be advised that you will need a 1/2" socket with a 3" extension to insert into the factory bump stop to hold bolt while removing the nut on the drivers side. This is not mentioned in the instructions. You will also need the same socket and extension to remove the bolt on the passenger side. One other note, the nut on the drivers side is a 15mm. Other than the afore mentioned 1/2" socket and the 15mm the only other tool you'll need is a 9/16". About a hour and a half to two hour job. I took the motorhome for a test drive and there is a very noticeably improvement in the ride. Very satisfied with my purchase. Thanks, sumosprings for a great product and etrailer for a great price. 566821

Review from a similar SumoSprings Rebel in Vehicle Suspension

Excellent product. I have a 2018 Thor motor home on the Ford chassis. After purchasing it and driving it 100 miles home in sustained 40 mile mph winds, I was starting to regret buying it. Even without wind, it was a handful to drive. I purchased the sumo spring for the front and rear. The change it the handling was way better then I expected. Even in high winds. Nothing will stop all the effects of the wind on a motor home, but I can now drive it 70 mph with confidence. The biggest change was with the side to side rocking. Driving on uneven lanes and on two lane roads with out shoulders is no longer a problem. I installed them myself without removing the tires. You have to use a right angle drill. It took me 5 hours to do it, but I’m 60 years old and slow. I plan on doing other improvements like steering stabilizer and track bar. Adding the sumo spring is the best thing anyone can do to improve handling. I actually enjoy driving my motor home now. 634453

Ordered these 2 piece Sumo springs for the front of my 2012 Itasca 30T class A. This thing rode like an old farm wagon. After installing these springs, it's like night and day. It doesn't ride like a Prevost but it rides a whole lot better than it did. If you have a short wheelbase chassis with 19.5 wheels you need these things. I won't say they were easy to install but it wasn't too bad. I'm 71 and did it in my driveway in the Florida heat in about 2.5 hours. Don't bother shopping around because etrailer has the best price and the best customer service. 526595

Review from a similar SumoSprings Rebel in Vehicle Suspension

When you look at the bumpstop and all the travel it can go, it makes sense to fill that space with a constant contact chusion, such as the Sumo Spring. I have a 2011 F53 chassis supporting a 32 Class A motothome. 16,000 GVW and no slide. I only installed the fronts to see how they worked. I did it myself and it took about 2 1/2 hours. If I can do it anyone that can work a wrench and understands basic mechanics can do it. I'm 60 and it's a tight space under there and takes some effort, but the jobs not hard, just doing it is hard and uncomfortable. My motorhome would ride very rough on the same roads my car ran smooth. The Sumo Springs were an improvement. They did not solve the rough ride on real poor highway, but on normal rough roads, they were an improvement that will benefit the ride on more roads than not. I now plan to do the rears when I get time. 500303

Purchased these SumoSpings from etrailer.com who where fantastic, helpful, and friendly throughout this transaction. Can't say enough about how they did everything they could to ensure the purchase and shipping of the product took place in a timely manner. The SumoSprings themselves are great, truly smooths out the ride, increases the stability, and reduces the amount of road jarring that takes place with our 2016 Jayco Precept. The installation is easy enough that most anyone can do it. Although they do leave out a couple of important things to note/steps to take, but most anyone with a little common sense can figure it out. Well worth the investment. 527488

Review from a similar SumoSprings Rebel in Vehicle Suspension

Preston did a great job helping me spec in the correct springs for my 2016 Thor Hurricane 27K on a F53 chassis. Placed order with him over phone and received springs two day's later. I just installed them and took Motor home on a test drive around town on bumpy streets and what a difference it made. Drives more like a truck now and less like a boat. I also installed a steering stabilizer spring and did the cheap handling fix to the sway bars. Well worth the time and effort. I did notice that the etralier installation video shows the bottom brackets of the spring installed with the "U" down which is opposite the mfg's printed instructions. I did mine according to the printed instructions cause it seemed to make more sense. Probably no big deal either way. Thanks etrailer. I'll be contacting you guys when ready to do the back end of my motor home. 649992

I ordered some front sumosprings for my f53 Motorhome from etrailer. They were very helpful in taking my order, I did a price match which took more steps than I thought it should. The Sumosprings installed very easily and seems to improve the overall handling of the motorhome especially with the cornering, the coach seems much more stable and has less body roll . The only problem that I had was that the front carriage bolts on the mounts were too short but I called supersprings and the sent me the correct bolts within a day. I may have to order the rear set later. My order shipped very quickly and arrived in just a few days. Than you etrailer. 503409

For your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD the best suspension enhancement kit we have is the SumoSprings Rebel part # SSR-203-47-2.
