Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.


SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.


The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).


SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle. You'll want to use our fit guide to verify, which one are the correct ones for your vehicle, and this is what our springs will look like when it's installed. It's got a mouth connected between the upper bracket connected to the frame and the lower bracket connected to our leaf spring.So when going over potholes or uneven terrain it's gonna absorb some of that shock, so it won't it transfer into the body giving you an overall smoother ride.Additionally, when you load down your vehicle, this is gonna help provide some cushion, and help keep your vehicle at it factory ride height when loaded down. This is gonna help keep your suspension at the correct geometries since it's closer to the factory ride height. So even while loaded down, you're not gonna get as bad of tire wear as you we're before. Helping to increase the life of your tires and your suspension components.Before we install our SumoSprings we'll take our motor home out on our test course and we'll see how it drives now.

I can already tell when turning even slightly the motor home wants to rock to the right. And as we go over the bumps it really starts to sway back and forth. This throwing you around is going to cause fatigue as you're going down the road. You're trying to maintain your self steady in your seat and control your vehicle. It's gonna leave you exhausted once you get to your destination and as I go through this longer turn I can really feel the RV staying out to the outside.

It doesn't want to spring back and become level. It keeps you hanging you hanging off on one side. Once you straighten it back out it really sways back and forth as it tries to return to that level center.And now with our SumoSprings installed we'll head back out on our test course. And even turning right into the test course I can feel our RV is staying straighter than it was before. And when going over the bumps I can feel that it's easier to hold on to my wheel and maintain straight line.

It's not jostling me back and forth nearly as much in the wheel or my seat. So overall I'm more comfortable and I can already tell it's easier to drive. So on those long distance road trips I won't have worry about being so fatigued when I get there.And now on that long turn I don't feel like a roller coaster going around the edge. It's much more straight up and down. I just feel like I can relax as I drive.At 50% compression it offers 2,600 of load carrying capacity.

Now this isn't additional load carrying capacity above your vehicles weight carrying capacity, it just helps support it. It's made of a durable micro cellular urethane, with operating temperatures of -25 degrees fahrenheit, up to 200 degrees fahrenheit and it's resistance against damage caused by oils, road salts, and UV rays.So when comparing these to your factory Jounce Bumper it's gonna provide more cushion, as there is always contact between the leaf spring and the frame with your SumoSpring, where as your Jounce Bumper has a gap and it only applies if you're near bottoming out your suspension.And, when comparing them to airbags, the SumoSprings are gonna be a lot less maintenance and they're gonna be a set and forget. They're always gonna be installed, doing their thing. Where as airbags are gonna change in pressure depending on the temperature of where you're at, so you're constantly have to adjust those pressures to maintain that proper ride height and load carrying capacity. Additionally airbags can leak down if there are any leaks with those systems, you can lose that. Where SumoSprings don't have any air in them. So they're always gonna be there. They're gonna be more reliable in ready to go. One of the benefits of airbags is that you are able to adjust them independently from side to side to help better compensate for uneven loads. You can also adjust the air pressure to an extreme of very high or an extreme of very low to match your load to match your load whether it be completely unloaded or loaded down as much as you needed it to be.And that completes our look at SumoSprings Maxim line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle.

Our 28 foot Ford chassis Class A handles like flying a kite with no string. It needed help. I started with the Sumo springs because the description made it sound like I could do them myself. Yep. Job accomplished. Then, I purchased a front sway bar, which did not come with my motorhome. Got ready for the job and discovered Sumo springs are incompatible with mounting a front sway bar. I purchased the SumoSprings Maxim rear axle helper springs for my 2016 F-53 Ford Chassis Georgetown 270S last year. They arrived quickly and were relatively easy to install. We drive in the mountains and regularly contend with cross-winds and some uneven road surfaces. we have put on a couple thousand miles since I installed these and the improvement is noticeable. These helper springs really smoothed out the ride, made the RV much more stable on the road with no harshness in ride comfort. These springs are worth getting if you are trying to avoid that side to side rocking and soft feel of the stock springs. I plan to install a set on the front soon to further add to the stability in windy conditions. These springs are a worthwhile investment and not that pricey compared to other options. 492088

Big Improvement! Installed Sumosprings on Rear Thor ACE 29.4 F53, after installing Sumosprings on front and steering stabilizer shock. The rear SumoSprings greatly eliminated sway from back of MH, and seemed to firm up the ride and a reduce bounce. The improvement was very noticeable but incremental compared to the modification to front of coach. Was a VERY good investment, but suggest start with front Sumosprings, With all 3 modifications I can drive down the road with two fingers (not recommended) on steering wheel, no fear from wind/trucks, and pleasurable ride! NOTE: Bolts were too long (5" needed 4" otherwise interfered with break line), etrailer probably would have quickly replaced but in hurry and purchased myself ($2). 561329

Installation of the rear SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs was accomplished without any problems. All necessary parts to install the springs were supplied in the kit. The SumoSprings have made a great difference in the ride and stability of our 2015 Thor ACE. The ACE ride and sway has improved to the point it is like driving a new RV. The side winds that push on the rear do not make the front want to move toward the center line or road side. I don't feel like I'm in a constant battle to stay in my lane which will vastly improve my driving pleasure. Passing 18 wheeler trucks didn't make our rig move away like before. I feel much safer with this more stable drive. The RV also doesn't seem to have the top heavy sway as we corner we actually have a much safer and smooth transition. Our test drive home from the shop was about 22 miles, with 5 miles on 4 lane and 18 miles on a narrow two lane back road. I feel this gave me the chance to evaluate the improved performance gained by installing the SumoSprings. I know our next trip will be a much safer and pleasant drive Thanks to the SumoSprings. 611841

Already had front sumos and my thought on them is lukewarm. I installed the rears and test drove it yesterday. Wow, what a difference when turning corners and entering/exiting driveways with a lip on them. No more rolling from side to side. My wife rode along on the test drive and also felt the difference almost immediately. It just feels stable. I highly recommend this product. I purchased a 2011 Georgetown motorhome in 2011 which uses a Ford F-53 chassis. I wish I knew better at that time. I realized that driving it was stressful and dangerous due to the body roll and micro lunges when driving rough road or windy day or curvy roads. We limited our trips to around 200 miles due to this. I had to do something. First, the rear sway bar I bolted the connecting links to the inside bolt holes and replaced the shocks. It drove much better but still some body roll and micro lunges. So I decided to take the next step. I purchased Sumosprings for the rear and front axles. They were exceedingly easy to install, worst part was drilling the frame for the rear axle. I have now been on a trip on mountain roads for two weeks. The micro lunges seem to be gone, almost like driving a car. The body roll isn't an issue anymore, I can drive the mountain curves without feeling like being thrown over a cliff. There may be other ways to fix this Ford F-53 problem, but the Sumosprings do the job. 542019

I had the both the front and rear sumo Springs installed on my 2016 Newmar Canyon Star, by the crew at Etrailer. The improvement in the handling was noticeable the minute I hit the road. The most noticeable effect was the reduction in the top heavy sway when cornering. It also seems to have reduced the effect of passing semi's .
