Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

Allegro

My 2007 Allegro Bay on an F53 chassis had a real tendency to bob and weave on crooked roads and in windy weather. The Sumo Springs removed virtually all the instability. The coach handles much better and I am not as fatigued at the end of the day. 830969

I needed to replace the existing Firestone air bags on the rear of my class "A" motorhome and after doing some research on the Sumo springs I opted to try them. The one big advantage right off the bat was I didn't have to worry about air pressure adjustment prior to a trip. This particular kit was a very easy install in that the upper mounting bracket for the Sumo was identical to the existing Firestone air bag mount with the same hole pattern for bolting the new Sumo spring to the frame. The first trip out I immediately noted a more stable ride with less side roll. The whole RV seemed to be planted more firmly to the road. So far I am very satisfied with install of these suspension parts. I look forward to many years of a better ride! 786457

We have been extremely happy with the installation of the Sumo Springs to the front and rear of our class A motorhome. This in combination with the addition of Safety Steering has made a tremendous difference in comfort and driving. I belong to several motorhome groups and have recommend Sumo Springs to anyone interested in upgrading their rig. 771397

I really appreciate the difference the springs have made in the handling of my motor home. Before them I worried about bottoming out and loosing control getting on and off bridges and overpasses. Now my trips are more relaxed. Having the right parts delivered the first time also was really appreciated. Thanks again.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

We ordered the sumo springs for our 2004 coachmen freedom series. The order came in just a few days as they did when we bought a heavy duty rear stabalizer last year. While I waited for the order ,myself and a grandson put the rear of our rv up on 7500 lb jack stands, two would have been fine but I wanted two more just in case. We took the rear duals off to make the installation easier ,and it was. Instalation went well, only having to move the gas line on passenger side up an inch by moving a clamp. We hoped these would help the light steering issue and related pushing from side when we would get passed on freeway. Not only did it clear up these issues but also quieted the coach down some. All my tests where done at highway speeds with the towed car behind. Thank you again to all at etrailer! Don. Ps. Had issue loading pics will update another time 786989

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

Installation of the rear SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs was accomplished without any problems. All necessary parts to install the springs were supplied in the kit. The SumoSprings have made a great difference in the ride and stability of our 2015 Thor ACE. The ACE ride and sway has improved to the point it is like driving a new RV. The side winds that push on the rear do not make the front want to move toward the center line or road side. I don't feel like I'm in a constant battle to stay in my lane which will vastly improve my driving pleasure. Passing 18 wheeler trucks didn't make our rig move away like before. I feel much safer with this more stable drive. The RV also doesn't seem to have the top heavy sway as we corner we actually have a much safer and smooth transition. Our test drive home from the shop was about 22 miles, with 5 miles on 4 lane and 18 miles on a narrow two lane back road. I feel this gave me the chance to evaluate the improved performance gained by installing the SumoSprings. I know our next trip will be a much safer and pleasant drive Thanks to the SumoSprings. 611841

2019 Thor Outlaw 29J I've only driven this RV for about 1800 miles. I don't know if I could rate these any higher. I ordered both the front and rear Sumosprings and the fronts arrived earlier than the rear, so I went ahead and installed them and went for a 100 mile test drive. Night and day difference, no more harsh ride in the front, and a lot less pogoing. Now I can't wait until the rears come in and I can test those. 539764

First time using etrailor. Very satisfied. Very helpful customer service when ordering. Item received quickly and with all parts. Had the SumoSprings installed ... Wow! Huge difference in my ride, a 31 ft Winnebago. Stable, and much easier to steer. Seems to have quieted down much of the rattling, probably because of the much sturdier ride. Extremely satisfied, and highly recommend. 715353

Already had front sumos and my thought on them is lukewarm. I installed the rears and test drove it yesterday. Wow, what a difference when turning corners and entering/exiting driveways with a lip on them. No more rolling from side to side. My wife rode along on the test drive and also felt the difference almost immediately. It just feels stable. I highly recommend this product. Did the install myself in about 2 hours without pulling the wheels, just make sure you have a good right angle drill for the bottom rear holes. 547447

Firstly great many thanks to etrailer for advice and and product information. You helped buy the perfect fit for our Fleetwood Tioga ranger. When it came to fitting the sumo springs your video and instructions made it so much easier. It took around 2.5 hours to fit and we didn’t even have to take the wheels off. The difference before and after fitting the sumo springs is definitely noticeable. There is less sway, less sag and overall a better ride. I am glad we went with more heavy duty version that you recommended. Our class C Rv is quite heavy and this kit suits it very well. We would recommend this to anyone who has a ford E450 super duty chassis for their rv 683535

  • Sumo Springs Versus Timbren Suspension Enhancement For 2019 Jayco Precept 31UL 22,000#

  • Recommended Jounce Springs for Two-Wheel Drive 2019 Ford F-53 Chassis
The jounce springs I recommend for your two wheel drive 2019 Ford F-53 chassis are from SumoSprings, the SumoSprings Rebel for the front axle and SumoSprings Maxim for the rear axle. • Jounce Bumper Helper Spring Fit for 2008 Tiffin Allegro 28DA
For the front suspension, you'd want to use # SSF-171-40-2 and # SSR-180-54-1 for the rear. Both sets will help absorb shock and bumps as well a minimizing sway and body roll. The springs themselves are oil, chemical and UV resistant, so they'll last for years. The best thing about a jounce bumper system like this versus airbags is that the SumoSprings are completely maintenance free. There's nothing to leak or rupture. I've linked to some installation videos that you might find helpful.
