Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

Video Transcript for SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs Review

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be taking a look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle. You'll want to use eTrailer's fit guide to determine the correct kit for your vehicle. This is what our SumoSprings look like when installed. Yours may look a little different depending on your vehicle. They're gonna replace our factory jounce stops and sit right between our frame and our rear axle. So whenever we're carrying a heavy load, they're gonna give us that extra support that we need. The way our SumoSprings are gonna work is when our suspension starts to sag from the heavy load, these are gonna absorb a lot of that weight. They are gonna work independently from each other so it's gonna help with those off-center loads.

Our springs are gonna have a progressive rate to 'em. So if we have a light load, they're gonna compress softly, still giving us that comfortable ride. But the heavier load we put on 'em, the more they're gonna compress and the more firmness they're gonna have to them. Now comparing to our factory jounce stop, you can see there's a big difference in height. These are gonna give us a lot more compression, whereas our factory jounce stops are really just preventing the axle from hitting the frame. We have a water tank at the bed of our truck as a heavy load or to simulate the tongue weight of a heavy trailer or a fifth wheel. So as I take the truck through my test course, I can definitely tell that there's a load back there.

The engine doesn't seem to be strained that much, but the bumps are extremely harsh and I can definitely feel it resonating through the seat. When I come to the slalom course and I'm going through the turns, it definitely has a lot of body roll and I just generally feel like I need to slow down because it feels likes it's leaning a lot and it's not responding quickly enough to the turns. Now that we have our SumoSprings installed and I have the same load back there, when I'm driving through our course, I can immediately tell a difference. It's much of a smoother ride. Going over the bumps really doesn't feel like anything's back there and it's just a lot more comfortable. When I come into the slalom course, it definitely feels a lot more stable and it doesn't seem to sway as much side to side and it just generally feels like it wants to go faster. These are made of a durable micro cellular urethane that works in temperatures from -25 degrees to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and resists damage caused by oils, road salts and UV rays. Compared to air bags, these are maintenance free option with no tubes to run or air pressure to maintain. Both will help level your load and provide a smoother ride.

Airbags can be adjusted to suit your needs whereas the SumoSprings are a fixed option. That completes our look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle.

Installed when factory bushings deteriorated. I had noticed a slight sway when towing 9000 lb travel trailer during cross winds. Once installed, sway was gone. I will either take these off when I replace truck or purchase new ones. 582583

I installed these (front and back sets) a year ago and they still work very well. I pull a fifth wheel and these help keep the truck level and the ride comfortable. They were one of the best things I have added to my Super Duty. 352792

Installed these on my 2012 Ford F-350 King Ranch 6.7 Improved the ride, even when empty. Reduced the harshness, the sharp jarring felt when hitting even small bumps, and pot holes ! Haven't tried it with my Montana Mountaineer 5th wheel camper yet, looking forward to that. 323354

2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Installed concurrently with Bilstein HD shocks on rear. The ride unloaded has not changed much other than the slap has been reduced when hitting a bump. With my F350, I don't have much sag with the 1800 lb pin weight of my fifth wheel, but I got the Sumos to prevent smacking the OEM bump stops on big dips and bumps. The sag was reduced from 2" to 1.5" with the fifth wheel loaded. Took the truck on a 40 mile moderately rough mountain road trip and drove harder than usual. No crabbing around bumpy curves. The truck felt like I had installed an anti-sway bar as it took the curves at speed flatter and seemed to rotate through curves instead of plowing through them. Sumosprings are recommended! 417695

Product was delivered and was a breeze to install! A friend happened to be around when I got started and we had them both installed in less than 20 minutes with the help of a car lift available to us. Didn't quite raise the bed of the truck as far as I hoped it would, but still a great product! Guess that's just the Baja Edition? But did find out I might need different shocks so that will be my next step soon. 508762

My order arrived 4 days early, WOW. I did use 2 flat blade screw drivers to remove the old bumpers. When I installed the new Sumo Springs I put a little liquid soap on the top edges, this helped pop them in. I also used a piece of 2X4 to help push them in, and quickly released the floor jack and this seated them in fully. Quick install took about 20 min. I have less than 1" at the bottom. Unloaded ride is same as before. With my trailer attached (1200 LBS hitch weight) the short test drive I felt much better control and less bounce. Very happy with product and etrailer. THANK YOU! 517005

The installation was relatively easy and straight forward. I’ve not yet attempted to hook up to my 5th wheel to see if it’s going to reduce the sag I was seeing that moved me to try this product. So this review is really about the install. 620456

I put these on my 2017 2 door jeep wranger. I have factory springs no lift. I put on aftermarket front bumper with wench, rear bumper, roof rack. With all the other gear in the jeep, frig, and all camping gear, and plans on putting on a rooftop tent. The ride was a harsh because off all the extra weight, so i thought i would give it a try. I first got air bags for the rear and they worked great, improving the ride, but now the front was still harsh. So i thought i would try the sumosprings. All i can say about the sumosprings is that there awesome. I can now go over bumps on dirt roads, paved roads, train tracks, and it dosnt beat the crap out of me. Jeep feels like its happy. 518093

Without a doubt - excellent product. With research you will find that the Ford E450 rubber bump stops are installed using metric while the Sumo product goes on with standard. The passenger side rear had a bracket attached holding brake lines so using a washer was out of the question. Overall they went on easily and when tested made turning so much more comfortable. Top used to sway so much, now WOW! I should have done this when I first bought the rig. Thanks Sumo and etrailer! 605554

Put these in my 2007 Tundra. I could tell a great difference just rounding corners with stability with out a trailer on. I like my trucks to ride like trucks and this for sure helped with that. Also when I hooked up my enclosed car trailer loaded there was a huge difference in the amount of squat it had versus before I put them on. 597026

2011, F53, 22,000 lbs chassis. After having adjusted tire pressure, installing new shocks and a rear trac bar, these are the icing on the cake. I installed the front Sumo’s and was so impressed I immediately purchased the rears. The side-to-side sway is almost completely gone, my motorhome tracks so much better now, and it actually soaks up a lot more of the little bumps. I’m really happy with the Sumo Springs and Etrailer. 225878

100% stock 2017 Tundra SR 4WD V8. Bought these to provide a bit more stability when towing 27' 8600 GVW tag along camper usually running around 8000lb actual weight. Weight distributing hitch w/ sway control. Wasn't horrible before but wanted suspension stiffened up some. Easy to install if you have a torque wrench and the most basic of hand tools. Did exactly what I wanted it to do. 467194

Great service arrived in 3 days. Installed the Sumo springs last weekend. It was about a 15 minute job on a P32 chassis. I used the supplied spacers and it raised the rear end about 1/2 inch and really reduced the body roll. They replaced the stock rear jounce bumpers which were shot. This is what should have come on the motorhome from the factory. 151532

It was interesting to note the height of the OEM versus these springs - these are much longer. I installed these front springs and the rear springs together and they significantly reduced the roll in my class B rv. I was able to install these myself and, at least for me, it was a lot easier using a second person to hold the spring in place below while I installed the retaining nut above. I used the appropriate jack and jack stands. 591696

Installed the black sumo only 2 wekks ago.Should have done that right after reception last year. Reduce sway totally when i leave my yard(3 inches bump). Don,t need stabilizator, floor is very solid and stable. On the road test for only 10 miles, there is a much better stability. I already have yellow sumo on front suspension where suspension was weak and direction instable.those problems have disapeared. Very satisfied client. 07 view sprinter 2006 579304

Shipped fast. Easy to install. Work seamlessly. I put these on a 2018 F150 HDPP. I wanted to retain the factory ride quality when empty and have more support when loaded near my GVWR. With the 1" spacer, they nearly touched the axle (1/8" space) and make the ride very firm. So I removed the 1" spacer and the ride quality was indistinguishable from stock on all but the largest bumps. These Sumosprings engage so smoothly that you can't feel the initial contact, it feels like the springs just get progressively stiffer at a rate that is faster than the stock springs alone. Note, I slightly rerouted a cable because I thought it might contact the Sumospring and wanted more clearance for piece of mind. I don't know if this is necessary on the f150 or not, but it I know others that have done this as well. This adds a little time to the install. But still under an hour including finding misplaced tools. 520312

The product was easy to install. The Tools needed list needs to be updated. Removing bolt is 13mm. Installing new bolts are 15mm. Also the nuts that are tack welded inside the frame will break loose if any rust or debris are on the threads. Back up wrench is near impossible if to fit if the size is not known. End up cutting the old bolt because of this. That’s not your products fault. That’s Fords issue. With the 1” spacers provided it raise my F150 4 1/2”. Stiffened the ride up. Ready to haul my 5th wheel. NICE 452641

I got the typical on time delivery from etrailer and the product arrived and appears as displayed on their webpage. I installed these on a Jayco Melbourne 24L motor home (2018 Mercedes 3500 Sprinter) with no problems. One small error in the manufacturers instruction sheet suggests using a 10mm socket to remove the stock bumpers prior to installing these. It is actually a 13mm you need. I bought these as part of a plan to reduce sway in this motor home. I figure these are part of an overall plan incorporating them with at least two other products. I have also installed a beefier rear sway bar and am considering one other piece to improve handling. These by themselves help but do not solve the whole performance improvement I am seeking. 577165

I purchased the Sumo springs (rear) for my 2008 Dodge 2500 after they were highly recommended by the RV dealership where I purchased my Palamino truck camper. Not only did they ride really well on my 200 mile trip from Waco Tx to San Antonio but there is no rear end sag . My truck has a leveling kit in the front. I am a believer in these Sumo springs and would recommend them highly. 517946

08 Winnebago View on an 07 Sprinter chassis. To reduce the side-to-side rocking that is inherent in this tall, narrow, heavy vehicle, I decided to try the Sumo SSR-335-47's on the rear bumpstops. Using the vehicle bottle jack, I raised the rear tires almost off the ground, one side at at time, to provide enough room to fit the Sumos into place. The old bumpstops simply pop out with force from a couple of screwdrivers, and the Sumos simply slide into the existing brackets. The fit is precise and snug. I put soapy water on the brackets and applied a bit of force to wedge the Sumos into place. It's that simple. The difference is pronounced, with significantly less rocking over minor road undulations. I'm impressed with this product, and wish I'd done this simple modification long ago. 156528

Re levels the poor Tacoma leaf springs. But definitely stiffens the ride on the off-road Bilstein shocks. If you carry a reasonable amount of weighted recovery gear at all times like I do, these are worth adding to your suspension. I installed them in 20 minutes. 561552

Have a 2014 Allegro that would pitch left and right when I would go in and out of driveways. The curtains would slam and bang like they were going to break something. On freeway interchanges that had high banking lt would lean so bad that you have to slow down. The Sumo Springs eliminated 80% of the rock & roll and took away 90% of the lean. Super easy to install. With the Sumo Springs and the Roadmaster Steering stabilizer it's like driving a totally different coach. No more rocking, no more white knuckle driving. Do it. It's worth every penny. 353538

Excellent product, the install instructions to me where confusing. I am an experienced suspension person. End of the day I installed for best fit and was satisfied. Price was right and ride was great after install. Have not had time to experience with tow but am not concerned. 572220

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

I had these replaced on my 2016 Tundra SR5 4WD CREWMAX that I tow a 28 ft travel trailer. I had my local mechanic install, hour later, done. Test drove it on country road, WOW. It drove like a sports car. The rear end took the bumps and dips no problem. The new stop basically takes up all the clearance between the frame and the axle. The response of the new urethane stop is progressive; no load, slight interaction and the more up/down action of the truck, the more the reaction. Tundra owners know that the rear leaf spring suspension is soft, car like. I am gearing up for a cross country trip w/trailer this October. I'll update this review later. I chose etrailer over the online big box store, same price, free shipping, delivered a few days later. 561547

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

I wanted a product that would lessen the harshness of bottoming out on the factory bumpstops when loaded, but not affect the ride quality when the truck was empty. These seem to be meeting both of those criteria perfectly. Installation was straight forward, took about 20 minutes with a 19 mm socket, 1/2" ratchet, and 1/2" torque wrench for final 52 ft lbs, on my 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad. My typical "loaded" combined cargo/passenger weight is 700 - 800 pounds. I wasn't sure if these would be heavy duty enough, or if I should get the 1000# SSR-612-47 sumos. Glad I went with the 500# SSR-612-40. 467170

  • How to Pick Out SumoSprings Suspension Enhancement for 2016 Ford F-250
  • For your 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty there are two SumoSprings options that fit your truck like you mentioned. There's the 2,800 lb kit part # SSR-114-54 and the 1,500 lb kit part # SSR-114-47. Basically you want to go with the lightest duty kit that will work for your application. Going heavier than you need will give you a harsher ride quality than you'll want loaded and unloaded. You didn't mention the pin or tongue weight of your trailer, but unless you are at the max capacity for...

  • Timbren Rear Axle Jounce Spring Kit for 2002 Ford F-350 4WD Towing 34-Foot Travel Trailer
  • The SumoSprings Rear Axle Jounce Spring kit # SSR-114-54, which fits the 2WD version of the 2002 Ford F-350, has a 2800-lb weight capacity which would be suitable for your travel trailer application but since you have lift on the truck I suggest the Timbren kit # TFR350SDE if you have 2WD or kit # TFRTT350E if you have 4WD. For these kits we have spacers available for lifted trucks that will ensure you can position these springs at the correct distance above the axle. When the truck...

  • Comparing the SumoSprings and Air Lift Air Bags for a 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty
  • Yes, suspension enhancements such as the SumoSprings Helper Springs and the Air Lift LoadLifter Air Helper Springs will help to minimize vehicle sag. They do this by transferring the pin weight of the trailer more towards the front of the vehicle which helps dramatically to improve braking, increase stability, and prolong the life of your existing suspension components. The main difference between the SumoSprings Helper Springs and the Air Lift LoadLifter Air Helper Springs is that the...

  • Comparison of Timbren's Versus SumoSprings for a 2001 Ford F-250
  • For your 2001 Ford F-250 I recommend using the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR250SDE instead of the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-114-54 because the Timbren springs are rated up to 6,000 lbs whereas the SumoSprings are only rated up to 2,800 lbs. Therefore, the Timbren springs are going to do a much better job of handling the added weight of your 5th wheel trailer. In addition to leveling support, these springs will also improve handling and...

  • Will SumoSprings Work With 2016 Ford F-250 Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs, part # SSR-114-54 are designed to be able to cushion the ride of your 2016 F-250 truck when you are carrying loads, and should do a nice job for you.. They are progressive so they compress as more weight is added to the truck. The springs are an easy no-drill installation as they replace the vehicle jounce bumpers on your truck. Using a suspension enhancement like part # SSR-114-54 will not increase your load capacity.

  • SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Spring Kit SSR-114-54 for 2008 F-250 4WD
  • You can totally handle the install of the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Spring Kit # SSR-114-54 in your 2008 F-250 4WD that has the B&W gooseneck hitch installed. The USA-made # SSR-114-54 is a bolt-on kit that needs no drilling. You'll simply remove the worn factory bump stops and the replace them with the Sumos. These will give you progressive resistance as the load on them increases. At half compression they support 2800-lbs but they can compress as much as 80% when you need them...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2012 Ford F-250 Towing Each Weekend
  • Occasional Towing and Hauling is one of the facets we use to help narrow options from constant load meaning always engaged systems and the commercial vehicle towing daily applications. Even though you tow more often than many, you would still fit that category. The Super Springs SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-114-54 are a great choice for your suspension enhancement. They will not require any maintenance and will engage progressively so you will get support...

  • Recommended Jounce Springs For 2013 Ford F-250 SRW 2 Wheel Drive
  • For your 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty, I recommned the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle, # SSR-114-54. These jounce spring replace your factory jounce which is there to basically protect your truck from completely bottoming out. The replacement jounces will engage the jounces when under load and the jounce springs are made to compress progressively for lighter loads and then heavier loads by as much as 80 percent. They engage independently to keep your vehicle level even...

  • Recommended Jounce-Style Suspension Enhancement for 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4 WD with Sag
  • Between the Air Lift AirCell Custom Helper Springs Kit # AL52215 and SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-114-54 you will definitely want the SumoSprings. The AirLifts are not a confirmed fit for your 2015 Ford F-350. They're made for Fords no newer than 2012. The SumoSprings are a great product, and will work to level your truck under the weight of the kingpin.

  • Jounce Spring Suspension Enhancement for 2004 Ford F-350
  • There is jounce spring suspension enhancement for your 2004 Ford F-350 but the Firestone WorkRite has been discontinued for some time now. For jounce-style spring suspension on your '04 F-350 similar to the WorkRite I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-114-54 because they are highly effective, simple to install and maintenance-free. • Recommended Airless Suspension Enhancement System for 2003 Ford F-250

The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-114-54 referenced in your question is a great option. The sturdy springs will cushion bumps and help support a heavy load to level your truck. They have a 2,800 pound weight capacity and offer progressive load control, which means that the springs will compress according to the weight of your cargo. I also recommend looking...

  • Are Air Springs or Rubber Springs Better For Sag When Towing a 5th Wheel With a 2008 Ford F-250
  • The decision between an air ride system or helper springs should be made based on how you will be using your 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty. Air bags are a good option if you tow your fifth wheel trailer occasionally and do a lot of hauling with varying load weights. I would recommend using the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, # F2550, as these air bags will work with a fifth hitch installed in your truck bed. Air springs should be manually adjusted for each load using an air compressor....

The gooseneck is attached to the outside of the frame rails and is blocking the attachment point that the Ride-Rite would need to install. • Recommended Rear Axle Suspension Kit for Cargo Load Support in 2015 Ford F-350 Diesel 4x4
  • Each different type of rear axle suspension enhancement product offers certain advantages. Air bag kits from Firestone and others allow adjustment to suit a particular load, while jounce springs like the Timbren and Tork Lift kits are less costly and easier to install, and they leave your unloaded ride quality unaffected. If your load is pretty constant at around 3K jounce springs are my recommendation but if you sometimes haul without towing, and tow without hauling, the adjustability...

  • The SuperSprings SuperSway-Stops, part # SSS-2 you referenced are a fit for your 2011 Ford F-250 or F-350 Super Duty truck, if you have overload springs. These are designed to replace the factory bump stops and fill the gap between the overload springs and the truck frame. • Timbren Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2010 Ford F-250
  • For unloaded ride quality you really want to go with suspension enhancement that does not make contact at all times. The Timbren kit part # TFR250SDF is going to be the best option as it does not contact when unloaded. This is the lower capacity kit at 6k. The 8,600 lb kit would be much harsher and would not be what you would want.
