Front Suspension Support

A heavy front load can cause front-end sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the front axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your rear axle, your rear tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy front load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your rear tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

Video Transcript for SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs Review

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be taking a look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle. You'll want to use eTrailer's fit guide to determine the correct kit for your vehicle. This is what our SumoSprings look like when installed. Yours may look a little different depending on your vehicle. They're gonna replace our factory jounce stops and sit right between our frame and our rear axle. So whenever we're carrying a heavy load, they're gonna give us that extra support that we need. The way our SumoSprings are gonna work is when our suspension starts to sag from the heavy load, these are gonna absorb a lot of that weight. They are gonna work independently from each other so it's gonna help with those off-center loads.

Our springs are gonna have a progressive rate to 'em. So if we have a light load, they're gonna compress softly, still giving us that comfortable ride. But the heavier load we put on 'em, the more they're gonna compress and the more firmness they're gonna have to them. Now comparing to our factory jounce stop, you can see there's a big difference in height. These are gonna give us a lot more compression, whereas our factory jounce stops are really just preventing the axle from hitting the frame. We have a water tank at the bed of our truck as a heavy load or to simulate the tongue weight of a heavy trailer or a fifth wheel. So as I take the truck through my test course, I can definitely tell that there's a load back there.

The engine doesn't seem to be strained that much, but the bumps are extremely harsh and I can definitely feel it resonating through the seat. When I come to the slalom course and I'm going through the turns, it definitely has a lot of body roll and I just generally feel like I need to slow down because it feels likes it's leaning a lot and it's not responding quickly enough to the turns. Now that we have our SumoSprings installed and I have the same load back there, when I'm driving through our course, I can immediately tell a difference. It's much of a smoother ride. Going over the bumps really doesn't feel like anything's back there and it's just a lot more comfortable. When I come into the slalom course, it definitely feels a lot more stable and it doesn't seem to sway as much side to side and it just generally feels like it wants to go faster. These are made of a durable micro cellular urethane that works in temperatures from -25 degrees to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and resists damage caused by oils, road salts and UV rays. Compared to air bags, these are maintenance free option with no tubes to run or air pressure to maintain. Both will help level your load and provide a smoother ride.

Airbags can be adjusted to suit your needs whereas the SumoSprings are a fixed option. That completes our look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle.

Put these in my 2007 Tundra. I could tell a great difference just rounding corners with stability with out a trailer on. I like my trucks to ride like trucks and this for sure helped with that. Also when I hooked up my enclosed car trailer loaded there was a huge difference in the amount of squat it had versus before I put them on. 597026

Great service arrived in 3 days. Installed the Sumo springs last weekend. It was about a 15 minute job on a P32 chassis. I used the supplied spacers and it raised the rear end about 1/2 inch and really reduced the body roll. They replaced the stock rear jounce bumpers which were shot. This is what should have come on the motorhome from the factory. 151532

2011, F53, 22,000 lbs chassis. After having adjusted tire pressure, installing new shocks and a rear trac bar, these are the icing on the cake. I installed the front Sumo’s and was so impressed I immediately purchased the rears. The side-to-side sway is almost completely gone, my motorhome tracks so much better now, and it actually soaks up a lot more of the little bumps. I’m really happy with the Sumo Springs and Etrailer. 225878

100% stock 2017 Tundra SR 4WD V8. Bought these to provide a bit more stability when towing 27' 8600 GVW tag along camper usually running around 8000lb actual weight. Weight distributing hitch w/ sway control. Wasn't horrible before but wanted suspension stiffened up some. Easy to install if you have a torque wrench and the most basic of hand tools. Did exactly what I wanted it to do. 467194

Great product ! Does all it claims and more than i expected. I leave my 5th wheel hitch mounted yr. round and haul bins of sand when I plow in the winter, so it's helping all the time. I can see and feel a difference in hauling our 30 ftr. Doesn't change the ride at all like just about anything else you'd need to do to get the help these give you. Easy install too! 347625

Still goin strong. I’ve had numerous campers even a Tundra owner inquire about what I’ve done to level my truck for the load. It totally out does more springs! When and if they fatigue, I’ll buy em again.

Installed the black sumo only 2 wekks ago.Should have done that right after reception last year. Reduce sway totally when i leave my yard(3 inches bump). Don,t need stabilizator, floor is very solid and stable. On the road test for only 10 miles, there is a much better stability. I already have yellow sumo on front suspension where suspension was weak and direction instable.those problems have disapeared. Very satisfied client. 07 view sprinter 2006 579304

Re levels the poor Tacoma leaf springs. But definitely stiffens the ride on the off-road Bilstein shocks. If you carry a reasonable amount of weighted recovery gear at all times like I do, these are worth adding to your suspension. I installed them in 20 minutes. 561552

I purchased the Sumo springs (rear) for my 2008 Dodge 2500 after they were highly recommended by the RV dealership where I purchased my Palamino truck camper. Not only did they ride really well on my 200 mile trip from Waco Tx to San Antonio but there is no rear end sag . My truck has a leveling kit in the front. I am a believer in these Sumo springs and would recommend them highly. 517946

The product was easy to install. The Tools needed list needs to be updated. Removing bolt is 13mm. Installing new bolts are 15mm. Also the nuts that are tack welded inside the frame will break loose if any rust or debris are on the threads. Back up wrench is near impossible if to fit if the size is not known. End up cutting the old bolt because of this. That’s not your products fault. That’s Fords issue. With the 1” spacers provided it raise my F150 4 1/2”. Stiffened the ride up. Ready to haul my 5th wheel. NICE 452641

The Sumo Springs are still performing well. I Hauled our 29.5 5th Wheel from Upstate NY TO Florida through a major 4 State nor’easter. We have also bought a 16’ cargo trailer and hauled it to it’s full weight capacitie. The truck is still sitting high.

I got the typical on time delivery from etrailer and the product arrived and appears as displayed on their webpage. I installed these on a Jayco Melbourne 24L motor home (2018 Mercedes 3500 Sprinter) with no problems. One small error in the manufacturers instruction sheet suggests using a 10mm socket to remove the stock bumpers prior to installing these. It is actually a 13mm you need. I bought these as part of a plan to reduce sway in this motor home. I figure these are part of an overall plan incorporating them with at least two other products. I have also installed a beefier rear sway bar and am considering one other piece to improve handling. These by themselves help but do not solve the whole performance improvement I am seeking. 577165

Got the SumoSprings 3 days after placing the order. Installed them on my 2009 Toyota Tundra in about 45 minutes, saved about 2.5" to 2.75" of sag with my trailer hooked up. Had 3/4" space between frame and spring when operating without trailer. 323053

Have a 2014 Allegro that would pitch left and right when I would go in and out of driveways. The curtains would slam and bang like they were going to break something. On freeway interchanges that had high banking lt would lean so bad that you have to slow down. The Sumo Springs eliminated 80% of the rock & roll and took away 90% of the lean. Super easy to install. With the Sumo Springs and the Roadmaster Steering stabilizer it's like driving a totally different coach. No more rocking, no more white knuckle driving. Do it. It's worth every penny. 353538

Shipped fast. Easy to install. Work seamlessly. I put these on a 2018 F150 HDPP. I wanted to retain the factory ride quality when empty and have more support when loaded near my GVWR. With the 1" spacer, they nearly touched the axle (1/8" space) and make the ride very firm. So I removed the 1" spacer and the ride quality was indistinguishable from stock on all but the largest bumps. These Sumosprings engage so smoothly that you can't feel the initial contact, it feels like the springs just get progressively stiffer at a rate that is faster than the stock springs alone. Note, I slightly rerouted a cable because I thought it might contact the Sumospring and wanted more clearance for piece of mind. I don't know if this is necessary on the f150 or not, but it I know others that have done this as well. This adds a little time to the install. But still under an hour including finding misplaced tools. 520312

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

I installed both the front ( SSF-106-40-47) and rear (SSR-338-47) SumoSpring suspension enhancement devices on my 2015 Winnebago View which is on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis. The vehicle is a bit top heavy and cross winds made the coach sway back and forth as did entering and leaving driveways and cornering on sharp curves. At times, this was scary and I was afraid it would lose control. I had a professional body shop install these for me for a very reasonable price, and upon leaving their shop, I felt the difference immediately. When I saw the original equipment pieces, I thought they were a joke. These new items touch the suspension at all times on the rear and are only 1/2" away from contact on the front. This has been a slightly over $400 investment in driving safety and is worth every cent. I literally said "WOW" out loud as I entered the freeway ramp: minimal sway with a good feeling of control. I highly recommend these devices. 524978

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

I installed these 1 year ago (9/2017) on the rear axle of my 30' Class C RV and immediately noticed an improvement. The ride was better overall, the side-to-side sway was markedly reduced, and even the handling seemed better. Installation was really easy; I didn't even have to jack up the vehicle to remove the old bump stops and the Sumosprings mounted in with minimal effort. It was a quick and easy installation that resulted in improved suspension performance instantly. I've since changed the shocks on all 4 wheels and the combination of Sumosprings plus the new shocks have really improved the suspension performance at all speeds and road conditions. There's no doubt to me that the Sumosprings are providing support against side winds, big trucks passing, and even assisting the shocks on poor roads. Best of all, my wife rarely complains about the ride, feeling like she's falling over on turns, or expansion joints in the highway. They aren't cheap, but compared to all the alternatives I looked at, they're worth the money! Highly recommend them. 563521

This was a very easy install. It took less than an hour. I installed them on a 2018 Forest River Forester which is on an E450 chassis. typical of many installations, the first side took 45 minutes, the second took about 8! I used 4" C clamp to compress the OEM bump stop laterally and that made it very easy to remove. Use LOTS of soap to aid in installation of Sumo Spring into nesting bracket. First impressions are favourable. Sway over curbs in parking lots significantly reduced and unit is much more stable at rest while walking inside. Took it on a short test ride and you can feel the difference but did not have top deal with crosswinds or semis, long term hard to tell. This is a low cost, high value upgrade to my Mercedes Sprinter RV 513499

I had these replaced on my 2016 Tundra SR5 4WD CREWMAX that I tow a 28 ft travel trailer. I had my local mechanic install, hour later, done. Test drove it on country road, WOW. It drove like a sports car. The rear end took the bumps and dips no problem. The new stop basically takes up all the clearance between the frame and the axle. The response of the new urethane stop is progressive; no load, slight interaction and the more up/down action of the truck, the more the reaction. Tundra owners know that the rear leaf spring suspension is soft, car like. I am gearing up for a cross country trip w/trailer this October. I'll update this review later. I chose etrailer over the online big box store, same price, free shipping, delivered a few days later. 561547

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

I purchased Sumo Springs to possibly help my 2012 Express Van when towing my trailer from bouncing on the highway after going through rough spots. But sadly they did not. I didn't notice much difference in towing my trailer after I installed these very difficult to install helper springs. The instructions show a very easy installation, but for me at least they were not that easy to install. The bolts on top of the springs were just a touch to short to install the way the diagram showed. I had to do some fishing with a piece of heavy wire to hold the top bracket in place in the frame while I guided the helper spring bolt into the bracket. Not easy to do on your back laying under a jacked up van. Hopefully I will notice a difference when I tow my equipment trailer with a heavier load?! 278208

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

I wanted a product that would lessen the harshness of bottoming out on the factory bumpstops when loaded, but not affect the ride quality when the truck was empty. These seem to be meeting both of those criteria perfectly. Installation was straight forward, took about 20 minutes with a 19 mm socket, 1/2" ratchet, and 1/2" torque wrench for final 52 ft lbs, on my 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad. My typical "loaded" combined cargo/passenger weight is 700 - 800 pounds. I wasn't sure if these would be heavy duty enough, or if I should get the 1000# SSR-612-47 sumos. Glad I went with the 500# SSR-612-40. 467170

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

My work truck (2015 Chevy Silverado 1500) is regularly loaded with 800 to 900 pounds of tools. Before installing the Sumospring the ride was kind of mushy. Now there is a nice spring to the ride, it feels like an empty truck. Installation was easy except that the 10 mm washers provided did not fit. A quick trip to the hardware store was the remedy. 499147

Product appears to dampen front end response so far to hard bumps. I definitely rate the install on these things LOWER than POOR. The instructions lead you to believe that you can simply twist and push these in place. This is not the case for the home mechanic with a floor jack. I had to take the truck to a mechanic and he threw all kinds of muscle, people, pry bars, and other items at these to get them to seat properly. Once in, they appear to function as intended. I would suggest you consider the fact that you may need outside assistance when installing these things. 559218

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

On a 2015 Ram 1500. The Sumo springs work great. I went from a loaded ride height of 35 inches to 36 1/4 inches. But the real improvement is in the ride. No longer have the squishy rear end wobble that I used to have. Combined with my weight distributing hitch my ride height improves to 37 1/2 inches. Truck is level along with my travel trailer. When I'm not loaded I don't even notice that I did anything. Still rides like factory. My only complaint is in the installation. Eight nuts with washers per spring and there is no space at all on multiple nuts to fit a so met or even a ratcheting wrench. Took about an hour in my driveway. Other than this minor inconvenience, I have to say excellent product. 347254

Installed these rear SSR-338-54 and front SSF-106-47 on my 2016 Mercedes Sprinter RV conversion (Thor Citation 24SR) Easy install. Did this myself and only had to jack up each side of the RV about 6 in. Didn't have to get the tires off the ground or removed the tires. The hardest part of the front where getting the bolts back in through the recessed hole in the suspension to bolt them in place. The rear locked right into place. Total install time about an hour. Only a short trip taken so far but sway seems to have been reduced. Will do a long trip soon to test out. 570539

These Sumo springs are the real deal! Installed them on my Nissan Frontier that I tow a trailer with and instead of the rear dropping 2 1/2 inches it now only drops less than an inch. Originally tried to buy another big brand name but it said it wasn't compatible with my truck. These Summo springs are second to none. Took about 45 minutes to install. Very happy. Highly reccomend. 555739

Review from a similar SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

08 Winnebago View on an 07 Sprinter chassis. To reduce the side-to-side rocking that is inherent in this tall, narrow, heavy vehicle, I decided to try the Sumo SSR-335-47's on the rear bumpstops. Using the vehicle bottle jack, I raised the rear tires almost off the ground, one side at at time, to provide enough room to fit the Sumos into place. The old bumpstops simply pop out with force from a couple of screwdrivers, and the Sumos simply slide into the existing brackets. The fit is precise and snug. I put soapy water on the brackets and applied a bit of force to wedge the Sumos into place. It's that simple. The difference is pronounced, with significantly less rocking over minor road undulations. I'm impressed with this product, and wish I'd done this simple modification long ago. 156528

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Will SumoSprings Lift the Front End of a 2017 Ford F-350
  • Because the SumoSprings # SSF-111-54 will always be engaged on your 2017 Ford F-350 the stock suspension will not compress as much as it normally would. This will give you the feeling that there is lift though it isn't actually lifting anything it is just preventing the normal amount of stock suspension compression. You could go with a softer spring set, # SSF-111-40, which would allow the stock suspension to compress more than the heavier duty SumoSprings.

  • Recommended SumoSprings Suspension Enhancement for Lifted 2016 Ford F-250
  • SumoSprings can absolutely work with lifted trucks so I reached out the manufacturer to get the best fit options for you. Some of the options are just a different dimension. For the front you will want the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Front Axle # SSF-111-40. For the rear axle you will want the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SFR-114-47. This is what their tech recommends for your application. These springs will compress up to 50 percent (front)...

  • Front Suspension Enhancements for a Lifted 2015 Ford F-250
  • I do have an option for you but the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSF-111-40 will not work as is if the contact point has changed as a result from the lift kit on your 2015 Ford F-250. The best options for you so long as you have the factory coil springs are with the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F4160 for 4x4 and part # F4101 for 4x2 or the Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs part # CSS-1094F for 4x2. If you no longer have the factory coil springs...
