Front Suspension Support

A heavy front load can cause front-end sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the front axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your rear axle, your rear tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy front load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your rear tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

Video Transcript for SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs Review

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be taking a look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle. You'll want to use eTrailer's fit guide to determine the correct kit for your vehicle. This is what our SumoSprings look like when installed. Yours may look a little different depending on your vehicle. They're gonna replace our factory jounce stops and sit right between our frame and our rear axle. So whenever we're carrying a heavy load, they're gonna give us that extra support that we need. The way our SumoSprings are gonna work is when our suspension starts to sag from the heavy load, these are gonna absorb a lot of that weight. They are gonna work independently from each other so it's gonna help with those off-center loads.

Our springs are gonna have a progressive rate to 'em. So if we have a light load, they're gonna compress softly, still giving us that comfortable ride. But the heavier load we put on 'em, the more they're gonna compress and the more firmness they're gonna have to them. Now comparing to our factory jounce stop, you can see there's a big difference in height. These are gonna give us a lot more compression, whereas our factory jounce stops are really just preventing the axle from hitting the frame. We have a water tank at the bed of our truck as a heavy load or to simulate the tongue weight of a heavy trailer or a fifth wheel. So as I take the truck through my test course, I can definitely tell that there's a load back there.

The engine doesn't seem to be strained that much, but the bumps are extremely harsh and I can definitely feel it resonating through the seat. When I come to the slalom course and I'm going through the turns, it definitely has a lot of body roll and I just generally feel like I need to slow down because it feels likes it's leaning a lot and it's not responding quickly enough to the turns. Now that we have our SumoSprings installed and I have the same load back there, when I'm driving through our course, I can immediately tell a difference. It's much of a smoother ride. Going over the bumps really doesn't feel like anything's back there and it's just a lot more comfortable. When I come into the slalom course, it definitely feels a lot more stable and it doesn't seem to sway as much side to side and it just generally feels like it wants to go faster. These are made of a durable micro cellular urethane that works in temperatures from -25 degrees to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and resists damage caused by oils, road salts and UV rays. Compared to air bags, these are maintenance free option with no tubes to run or air pressure to maintain. Both will help level your load and provide a smoother ride.

Airbags can be adjusted to suit your needs whereas the SumoSprings are a fixed option. That completes our look at the SumoSprings Solo Line of Custom Helper Springs for the rear axle.

Installed these on a 2017 Mercedes 2500 Sprinter/2018 Roadtrek SS Agile. I already have these on the rear where they work great reducing sway and bounce, wanted the same handling in the front.. I found it much easier to remove the wheel to access the nut holding the bump stop in place and to place the Sumo Spring in position. Overall an easy install. 658576

It was interesting to note the height of the OEM versus these springs - these are much longer. I installed these front springs and the rear springs together and they significantly reduced the roll in my class B rv. I was able to install these myself and, at least for me, it was a lot easier using a second person to hold the spring in place below while I installed the retaining nut above. I used the appropriate jack and jack stands. 591696

Great product. Very easy to install. I installed Sumo springs front and rear on my class C Sprinter-based RV (Winnebago View) as part of a suspension upgrade to improve handling in cross winds. The other suspension upgrades included a Hellwig rear sway bar and Bilstein rear shocks. The handling improvement was dramatic. No more sway when being passed by semi’s and much, much better handling in cross winds. I am very happy with the Sumo springs. 656765

Without a doubt - excellent product. With research you will find that the Ford E450 rubber bump stops are installed using metric while the Sumo product goes on with standard. The passenger side rear had a bracket attached holding brake lines so using a washer was out of the question. Overall they went on easily and when tested made turning so much more comfortable. Top used to sway so much, now WOW! I should have done this when I first bought the rig. Thanks Sumo and etrailer! 605554

This was a very easy install. It took less than an hour. I installed them on a 2018 Forest River Forester which is on an E450 chassis. My rig is equipped with Firestone airbags in the back so I only needed the Sumos in the front. I’m looking forward seeing how they improve the handling of my RV. I haven’t ventured out on the road. 538371

I got the typical on time delivery from etrailer and the product arrived and appears as displayed on their webpage. I installed these on a Jayco Melbourne 24L motor home (2018 Mercedes 3500 Sprinter) with no problems. One small error in the manufacturers instruction sheet suggests using a 10mm socket to remove the stock bumpers prior to installing these. It is actually a 13mm you need. I bought these as part of a plan to reduce sway in this motor home. I figure these are part of an overall plan incorporating them with at least two other products. I have also installed a beefier rear sway bar and am considering one other piece to improve handling. These by themselves help but do not solve the whole performance improvement I am seeking. 577165

I had these on a previous sprinter Rv and they greatly improved the handling. I installed the front and rear Sumo Springs on my present sprinter RV and they we to with no problem. Watching the installation video was very useful. Especially the tip about spraying the rear set with silicone on removal of the old bumpers and installation of the new sumos. I haven’t had time to road test the unit after the installation but I am sure they will be an improvement. 721936

Love the product fairly easy to install. Took just about two hours for all four Sumosprings. The front was a bit more challenging and I’ve seen somewhere else about using a plastic bag that you can cut up and inserted in the 13 mm deep socket, this will keep the nut in place while threading. Your videos are very helpful and strongly suggest that you create a how too for the front replacement 717168

Easy one person install! Key is a 13mm deep socket. I used the provided jack of my 2015 Winnebago View to lift the front wheel of the ground (also used additional jackstands for safety). I was able to reach over the tire from the outside to remove existing bump stop and install the SumoSprings. The ride improvement (when coupled with the rear SumoSpring rear helpers) is incredible! No more extreme sway/roll when transitioning across uneven surfaces! Best is the almost total elimination of swaying when passed by tractor trailer rigs on the interstate! Highly recommend this modification especially for Class C rigs. 713776

Felt the difference on the first right turn out of my sub witch goes down hill and tilts right. Better control stops the sway sooner thinking of putting the sumos on the rear, but worried it will make the ride to stiff on the road , I all ready have heavy road master sway bar on rear love the control and it lifts my front 3/4s of inch higher 711275

2019 Thor Outlaw 29J I've only driven this RV for about 1800 miles. I don't know if I could rate these any higher. I ordered both the front and rear Sumosprings and the fronts arrived earlier than the rear, so I went ahead and installed them and went for a 100 mile test drive. Night and day difference, no more harsh ride in the front, and a lot less pogoing. Now I can't wait until the rears come in and I can test those. 539233

There is no SumoSpring option for 4-wheel drive models but if you have a 4x4 then you can instead use Timbren springs # TUMDF70. The difference between the 2 SumoSpring options is capacity. They will reduce body roll, but they make the ride a little stiff for most people when they are not towing. For your motorhome built on a 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 we have great suspension enhancement kits available but none that use air bags. Instead the kit I would recommend is the SumoSprings kit part # SSF-106-47 which is similar to the Timbren but won't be as harsh of a ride. • Recommended Front and Rear SumoSprings for 2018 Mercedez-Benz Sprinter 3500
For your 23 foot RV that's built on the 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 I recommend the 1,000 Pound SumoSprings # SSF-106-47 for the front and the 900 Pound SumoSprings # SSR-338-47 for the rear. This will give you excellent support for a level ride that will allow for much improved stability as you turn corners and travel over mistakes in the road. I have attached a couple short video demonstrations that you can check out as well.

  • SumoSprings Recommendation for Front Axle of 2017 Thor Vegas 25.2 on E-350 Chassis
Both the part numbers # SSF-106-47 and # SSF-106-40 are a fit for the front axle of your 2017 Ford E-350. The difference being that the part # SSF-106-47 has a 1,000 lb spring and the # SSF-106-40 has a 500 lb spring. For the weight of your Thor Vegas I'd go with the 1,000 lb # SSF-106-47 as it will be more effective.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2019 Jayco Melbourne on a 2018 Sprinter 3500 Chassis
The correct Roadmaster anti-sway bar for your 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 chassis is part # RM-1209-131. This does require some drilling but it also retains (and enhances) your OEM anti-sway bar. You'd actually be pretty surprised at how much adding even just a thicker anti-sway bar can improve the handling of your motorhome. You are definitely looking in the right place when you mention the SumoSprings to help with enhancing your ride as well. I recommend adding SumoSprings # SSR-338-47...

  • SumoSprings Recommendation for 2020 Thor Axis on Ford E-450 Frame
The SumoSprings I recommend for your 2020 Thor Axis, which is built on a Ford E-450 chassis are: - Rear Axle: SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-130-54 - Front Axle: SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSF-106-47 These will fit any of the floorplans for a '20 Axis, the 24.1, 25.6 and 27.7. The SumoSprings are a great addition to your rig because they reduce the amount of sway and body roll you will experience, which is all too common on any size motorhome. The SumoSprings...

  • Installation of SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs SSF-106-47 on 2017 Ford E-450
When installing the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSF-106-47 you simply need to ensure you use jack stands to support your 2017 Ford E-450's frame so the front suspension hangs freely. It is not recommended or necessary to use Loc-Tite when installing these springs. You will only need to thread the stud on the springs into the mounting location. I have attached links to both the installation instructions and a video of these springs being installed on a '17 E-Series for you...

  • Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement for 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Motorhome
For your Coachman Motorhome with a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Chassis, I recommend looking at the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-338-47 for the rear axle. These 900 pound capacity springs will support a heavy load to level your ride and minimize sway. Although the units provide progressive load control, these are maintenance-free springs, which means you will not need to adjust or monitor them like you would with air springs. I have attached the installation details...

  • Sway Bar Recommendation for 2016 Coachmen Prism 2150LE Class C
Roadmaster has a rear sway bar that's a confirmed fit for your 2016 Mercendes Benz Sprinter Class C Rv as part # RM-1209-131. You actually don't have to also install a front sway bar as well with this. The rear bar will make a huge difference since that's where most of the RV's weight is carried. Also there aren't any front bars made for your vehicle that we offer. For more support for the front axle we have the SumoSprings Kit part # SSF-106-47 would work great. These are known to help...

  • Comparing the Timbren # TMBFSP35 and SumoSprings # SSF-106-47 for a 2016 MB Sprinter 2500
Out of the Timbren # TMBFSP35 and the SumoSprings # SSF-106-47 suspension enhancement systems I recommend the SumoSprings. Although they are very similar the SumoSprings provide more of a cushion and aren't as harsh or stiff as the Timbrens. This gives you a much more comfortable ride. Both options have a 1,000 lb weight capacity but please note that they will not raise the weight capacity of your 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. They are only meant to help support a suspension system...

  • Recommended SumoSprings Helper Springs for 2003 Ford E450 Lazy Daze 26.5 Foot Motorhome
The SumoSprings Helper Springs are axle specific. It sounds like you are looking for a recommendation for each axle and have been doing your homework. For your rear axle, I recommend the yellow # SSR-106-54-1 because they have they are rated for 5400 lb capacity and the springs attach at the top and bottom for constant support. This will help with the body roll and push. These will be slightly stronger than the black # SSR-106-47-1. In this case the brackets are a better fit...
