SuperSprings Vehicle Suspension - SSA5MTKT

950-lb Capacity. Install these helper leaf springs above your vehicle's rear factory leaf springs. They reduce sway and prevent sagging, which is perfect for towing or hauling heavy loads. Designed for OEM springs that sit above the axle.

Features:

  • Reinforce your vehicle's rear suspension with extra leaf springs that prevent sagging and reduce sway by up to 30 percent
    • Work like sway bars to stabilize your OEM springs and keep them from twisting
    • Compensate for windy conditions, wind turbulence from big rigs, and weight shifts while cornering
    • Lift your truck when you are carrying a heavy load and prevent bottoming out
  • Adjust automatically to your payload
    • Rollers on each end of the SuperSprings activate when the OEM springs flex under load
    • Rollers deactivate when OEM springs aren't under load
  • Customizable - the shackles attaching the SuperSprings provide several options for installation
    • Choose a setting that increases load support and ride height for constant heavy loads or to compensate for minor spring fatigue in an older automobile
    • Choose a setting that maintains the original factory ride conditions and minimizes effect on unloaded ride quality and height
    • Choose a medium setting that balances support, height and ride comfort
  • Install easily - bolt on above your existing factory springs with no drilling required
    • Because factory springs set above the axle, an additional mounting kit is included for installation
  • Require no maintenance - no tubing or air pressure to monitor or adjust like air springs
  • Save money
    • Extend the life of brakes, tires and the factory suspension
    • Less expensive than air spring systems
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Weight capacity: 950 lbs
    • SuperSprings will not increase your vehicle's weight-carrying capacity
  • U-bolt length: 4"
  • 5-Year limited warranty for non-commercial applications
  • 2-Year limited warranty for commercial applications

SuperSprings diagram of roller and shackle system for extra leaf spring

These additional leaf springs add support and sway control to your existing OEM suspension. Just bolt on SuperSprings over your existing factory springs, and they automatically work when you need them. As the factory spring flexes, a roller at each end of the beefy helper spring reacts to engage the helper spring and to provide extra support. The springs help to better distribute cargo weight throughout your existing suspension, channeling that weight to the points on the frame that are designed to support heavy loads.

SuperSprings leaf spring installed on a Ford vehicle

Placing these leaf springs above your factory springs helps to keep your OEM springs from twisting, so the SuperSprings act like a sway bar, reducing the body roll that makes driving more difficult and dangerous. With these helper springs, driving is safer and easier when it's windy, when your vehicle is rocked by a passing semitruck and when cornering. The springs help to reduce sway by up to 30 percent. SuperSprings also allow more wheel travel in the rear suspension when they are under load, so they maintain traction and ride comfort better than rubber or polyurethane bumpers. That means they're great for drivers who frequently tow.

Truck before SuperSpringsTruck after SuperSprings

You can also customize the level of support provided by SuperSprings. For most models, the shackles that attach the helper leaf springs to your existing leaf springs have several installation options:

  • For greater support and ride height when your suspension is under a constant load or if you have an older automobile with some spring fatigue, install the helper springs using the upper bolt holes
  • To maintain the factory ride and reduce the effect on your ride height, install using the lower bolt holes
  • To balance support, height and ride comfort, install using the upper hole on one end and the lower hole on the other

SuperSprings are a maintenance-free, low-cost alternative to air spring systems, which require constant monitoring and air pressure adjustment. These helper leaf springs respond automatically to the load you carry, so there is no crawling under your truck to adjust them. You'll also reduce wear and tear on your suspension, brakes and tires, which saves you money. The bolt-on installation means that they are easy to fit - no drilling required.

This suspension stabilizer kit is perfect for trucks towing fifth wheels, campers and gooseneck trailers.

SuperSprings diagram of springs set above and below the axle

An additional mounting kit is included for installation with factory springs that set above the axle.

For vehicles with factory leaf springs that set above the axle, this mounting kit ensures that SuperSprings operate silently when the vehicle isn't loaded. When factory springs set below the axle, the axle itself serves as a fulcrum for the helper leaf springs. However, for vehicles that have OEM springs that set above the axle, the 2-inch brackets in the mounting kit act as fulcrum points on the underside of the SuperSprings. Furthermore, the shackles at the ends of the helper springs hold them in place and pivot as the load is transferred to the SuperSprings. Because there is minimal preload tension in the installed SuperSprings, you get a quieter ride.

Video Transcript for SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the SuperSprings lines of custom suspension stabilizer and sway control kits. You'll want to use etrailer's fit guide to determine the correct kit for your vehicle. Here's what our SuperSprings are going to look like once we have them installed. Now these are going to give us the support we need whenever we're hauling a heavy load or towing a heavy trailer. Typically, whenever we're hauling something extremely heavy our suspension wants to flex a lot and our back end sags down. Well these are going to provide us the extra support by activating whenever our suspension flexes, the rollers on the end of our leaf spring are going to activate our helper spring and provide us that extra support.

But also still giving us a nice ride when we're not towing something heavy, because it's going to deactivate those springs and still have a nice comfortable ride. And since they are attached to the front and back of our factory leaf springs, it's also going to act like a sway bar and it's going to prevent our leaf springs from twisting. Giving us a lot more stability when we're driving down the road. The multiple notches in the end here are going to provide us with a little bit of customization, depending on how much support we need. If we need more or if we just have a little bit of spring fatigue in our truck, it'll give us that little bit of lift so whenever we're towing something we don't have quite as much sag.We have a water tank in the bed of our truck as a heavy load or to simulate the tongue weight of a heavy trailer or a fifth wheel. So as I take the truck through my test course, I can definitely tell that there's a load back there.

The engine doesn't seem to be straining that much, but the bumps are extremely harsh and I can definitely feel it resonating through the seat. When I come to the slalom course and I'm going through the turns it definitely has a lot of body roll and I just generally feel like I need to slow down because it feels like it's leaning a lot and it's not responding quickly enough to the turns. The SuperSprings installed and I have the same load back there. When I'm driving through our course I can immediately tell a difference. The bumps aren't as harsh because the truck isn't sagging down as much and there's a little bit more support back there. But really where I tell a big difference is through the slalom course.

It definitely feels way more stable and even taking the turns going in and out, it just feels like it really wants to stick to the ground a lot better and just generally wants to go faster.Compared to airbags, these are a maintenance free option with no tubes to run or air pressure to maintain. Similar to airbags you can customize the level of support provided. Unlike airbags however you do this during the installation and set it one time rather than on the fly adjustability you get with airbags. And that completes our look at the SuperSprings line of custom suspension stabilizer and sway control kits.

Superspring purchase was right on the mark. Gave George J. all the info on my truck, rv and what I was experiencing. He suggested the SSA5MTKT springs that they should take care of my problem. I installed them in 45 minutes, hooked to my rv and made a pull. I was able to pull at 65 and 70 mph with minimal bouncing and rocking. An increase of 1" in loaded ride height and 10-15 mph was perfect. Thanks George J. and the staff at Etrailer.com 229763

The kit looks really good but I can’t figure out how to install. Enclosed are two photos showing my van suspension and the parts your sent. The instructions do not show my van with only one spring. Can you advise?????????????? Thanks. 603418

Comments

If you look at page 4 of the instructions which Ive linked for you, you can see photos showing a single leaf spring set up just like whats shown in the photos you provided thanks for the photos!. Im guessing that page was not included in your instructions for some reason.

This product is excellent and easy to install w/o altering or affecting any OEM parts or infrastructure. It's truly an add-on. The springs added about 2-4 inches of clearance and balanced load more evenly throughout the vehicle. I noticed how the vehicle drove and cornered much better as well as adding to a balanced vehicle appearance. I'm very impressed and happy. Prior to installation I had loss of traction in front steering and that was gone after installation. I would not hesitate to buy this product again or to recommend it to anyone. The pricing and service was excellent. I love.......the product. I've attached a photo with a add-on trailer-hitched basket with weigh of about 300 lbs of overhang on the back of the vehicle. As you can observe the vehicle remains level and balanced with the load. 74881

Product was delivered quickly and in good condition. These springs worked great on my 2003 F-150. They did add about 1" of lift to the rear end of the truck, but make for a level ride when trailering my boat or equipment trailer. 162484

Product does just what it says it does. Installed them on a Thursday and towed with them that weekend....... and they did a great job. Handled the tongue weight of my dump trailer better. I did notice a decreased amount of "wave" effect when you are in tow and your heavy trailer hits a bump or swale in the road; and transfers that energy to the truck. Sorta feels like you got a heavy tail that someone is tugging on. This was significantly reduced and made for a pleasant ride Later on Sunday then threw a load of firewood (no trailer this time) in the bed full; and in comparison of a previous haul with wood the truck did not sag as much. My truck config is stock, double cab w/ 8' bed 4x4. I did not notice a stiffness in ride with and empty bed or no trailer in tow. Seemed to be just fine. Slightly raised the rear but with the long truck it is hardly noticeable. One part of the installation was a little difficult, when it came time to compress the leaf it was a bit of a chore. I did have a 5" c-clamp but it was getting tough the last few inches to get the roller underneath the stock leafs. If I had a special leaf spring clamp tool as shown on some of the youtube vids I would have been done in about a 1/2 hour but with out this tool it makes the compression part slow. 145702

These Supersprings are great! I carry my snowmobile in the back of my 2007 Tundra. The trucks ride is noticeably more firm without the bottoming- out that I had been experiencing. Pretty easy to install. Probably took me 6 hours maybe a little less. The worst part was getting my rear tires removed. The directions said this was not necessary but I highly recommend taking them off. Great product so far! ***** 5-Star rating from me! Ray Z. 33142

I installed these on my 2013 F150 they fit great lifted the truck about 1inch but did not affect the ride. When I pull my 8X17 fish house the truck sits nice and level now. Other sites recommended the install kit which is not needed on this vehicle. E trailers was great to order from. Shipping was a week early. 464111

These helper springs worked well. My truck didn't sag nearly as much with similar loads in it than it did before. Probably raised it around 4-5 inches when loaded and about an inch when not. Only complaint is the bolts holding the product to the adapter for a spring over axle setup are not of a high grade. They broke, but I may have overtightened them. I replaced them with some grade 8 bolts from the hardware store. They are only needed to hold the new spring in place when the vehicle is raised off the ground. They don't affect the performance of the product. 247201

It a good product for 2017 Ford f150 except 1 factor that it had to mounted more toward the rear and the no bracket to hold it in place if I get a tire rotation or lift the vehicle from the rear the spring roll away and need to clamped while lowering the vehicle. I contacted Super directly to there warranty department and they sent me a lock down kit. It also Lifted the truck about a inch on low setting so I'm sitting at 39 inch in rear. 505177

Easy install, I’m 71 years old, it took me 140 minutes to do the installation. I haven’t towed with them yet but the truck ( 2012 GMC 1500) rides and handles much better. These are very pricey but so far so good! 553679

I just finished the installation. I ran into a few problems specific to the 2008 F350 dually that were not called out in the instructions. I had to loosen all of the parking brake cable mounts running along the spring on the left side to get the spring in, and I had to modify the brake cable bracket that mounts on the axle u-bolt bracket. It still only took about 1 1/2 hours to complete the job. I used the bottom hole on the front shackle and the center hole on the rear shackle and got about 2 inches rise which I needed for the Lance 1181 Camper I haul. It rides and performs much better than I expected. Great product that performs as advertised! 86608

2013 Toyota Tundra 4x4. Installation went well in my garage with a medium sized C-Clamp. The ride feels that same as stock. Lifted the rear 1.5" which helped off set the 2.5" lift in the front from Fox 2.0 shocks. I have not hauled a load yet. 107263

This product is a must if you are looking for a pleasant ride empty, yet still have additional capacity when you need it. I purchased it because I haul a Lance 1062 camper and was not pleased with the air bag setup I had been using. The air bags would handle the load just fine, but I got a lot of side to side motion while going around corners. I even set each air bag up independent of the other. The SSA15 kit eliminated the side to side motion. It really does act like a sway bar. I recommend you remove the rear tires when you install, it will make it much easier. 485410

Review from a similar SuperSprings Sway-Control in Vehicle Suspension

After having used partial and full ‘add-a-leaf’ kits on fleet trucks in the past, I was willing to give these a try. Having missed the stiffness of a 2500 rear end and having put 125k on a 1500 with a topper/camper shell, this was the progressive stiffness I was looking for. The vehicle sits 1.5” higher at the rear, isn’t overly stiff, alowing the Bilstein shocks to continue to do their job, properly. Adding the tow behind camper, along with a loaded bed, far less body sway without a compromised ride. I also utilized the SumoShocks (front and rear), for some time and I love them. Having everything together, as a package, works great for me when towing, the bed is loaded down and when I’m traveling 2hrs at a time from place to place, as a highway truck. This will take some serious C clamps (8” from hardware store) and some mechanical aptitude if using a jack and stand(s) in the garage. Overall, not too strenuous or hard. Nothing intimidating. I’d definitely recomend to anyone wanting to help tired leaf springs or when reducing body roll. 557350

Review from a similar SuperSprings Sway-Control in Vehicle Suspension

I got this to prevent bottoming out my truck when towing our travel trailer. Won't know for sure if this actually works until we load up. Having said that, the instructions provided with this are poor and talking with Supersprings tech support was frustrating. As mentioned elsewhere, you will need two "C" clamps to pre-load the spring and I wound up fabricating a 3" extension bracket for the brake lines; neither of which were mentioned in the instructions. I also removed the wheels to provide working space and air tools are definitely the way to go. On my '13 Tundra, the distance between the stock spring pack straps is 40" the same as the distance between the eyes on the Superspring. I was advised that the spring is mounted off-center to avoid conflict with the stock spring straps; however this in not mentioned in the instructions. This placed the Superspring about 4" forward of the center of the axel instead of centered on the axel. (see photos) This seems counterintuitive to me but we'll see. This added 1.5" in height to the rear of the truck. It took me 4 hours to install by my self, including time to fabricate the brake line extensions and dealing with Supersprings staff twice on the phone. During the second call, the tech mentioned that they get a lot of phone calls for Tundra installs, indicating to me that they already know there are issues with the product and instructions. In retrospect, I would look for a new spring pack if I was doing this again. Hopefully my suspicions are unfounded but I'm hanging on to the box just incase. Etrailer was great with the best price anywhere and quick shipping. 108092

Just installed and I loved how easy it was took 30 min tops. I expected a much stiffer rear end with the bed empty but was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the ride remained. I did notice a more stable and responsive feel while driving. All in all super impressed with the product so far, shipping was fast (ordered Saturday and received Wednesday, in canada) everything I needed was in the kit and it only raised the rear end up about 1/2". 316290

Great item!! The Supersprings performed just as described. No more sag in the suspension and the benefit of better control. Installation was an hour with the help of an experienced mechanic and the right tools. If it wasn't for removing of the bumb stops on the axle, installation would have been faster. Expensive product, but it is a quality product and made in the USA. After install, the springs raised the rear of the truck about 2" to 3" when unloaded. Best part is that the springs didn't cause the truck to ride rough when unloaded. 21988

This is the 3rd set of supersprings I have purchased. I am completely satisfied with each set. I have a set on a 30 foot class C motor home and it solved a swaying problem plus giving a better ride. I had a set on a F 150 that I sold, so when I got a new pickup I needed another set. The supersprings completely solve any towing and hauling issues. I have a Ranger pickup that I tow behind the motor home and haul a motorcycle in it. The motorcycle makes the little pickup sag so I will be ordering a set of super springs for it. 227059

Part arrived and looked great. Very easy to install. Only two things that can be fixed is that the springs only go on one way and they are not marked front/rear, and its not real clear how the the rubber spacer is used. I installed these on a 2005 ford F-150 Supercrew and I pull a 30 foot travel trailer. I have installed air bags to level the truck/trailer, but at 50psi the kids in the back seat got beat up due to the poor ride. I'm hoping these springs will level the truck/trailer and give us a better ride. We going up north this weekend and I hope i can re-post how the trip went. 280234

Very pleased! There are two settings, but I prefer the heavier capacity setting and higher in the rear feeling. It has made all the difference in the world with my long wheelbase 2002 Chevrolet Astro Van. I really do not feel that it has changed my ride comfort that much, very little, if any. I always have some kind of load on the van, whether hauling cargo in the van, or towing a trailer, that my ride is still as smooth as always. But, the remarkable thing is, that now my rear end isn't sagging to the ground like it always use to be, even without a load! I'm super pleased and would recommend these springs to everyone for the reasons I've shared above. 563128

Review from a similar SuperSprings Sway-Control in Vehicle Suspension

I bought this product for my 2001 F250 that I use to haul a 24' gooseneck horse trailer typically loaded with about 3000-4000 lbs of cargo. My truck was squatting and I was experiencing sway, expecially on the interstate when passing tractor trailers. The super springs greatly improved my truck's suspension and performance when hauling. I would highly recommend this product. 427319

Review from a similar SuperSprings Sway-Control in Vehicle Suspension

These helper springs worked well. My truck didn't sag nearly as much with similar loads in it than it did before. Probably raised it around 4-5 inches when loaded and about an inch when not. Only complaint is the bolts holding the product to the adapter for a spring over axle setup are not of a high grade. They broke, but I may have overtightened them. I replaced them with some grade 8 bolts from the hardware store. They are only needed to hold the new spring in place when the vehicle is raised off the ground. They don't affect the performance of the product. 247200

product was missing two washers and came in a weathered box that indicated it was a returned item re-shipped for my use a more thourough inspection of this kit and a new box would have made a difference. the product has performed well and i prefer it to airbags that must be monitored for air pressure. i have not tested it under load yet but it has good potential 241598

Review from a similar SuperSprings Sway-Control in Vehicle Suspension

Springs arrived one day earlier than promised then the mounting kit arrived the next day, on time. Checked for the fit of the mounting kit and it clears the axle and bolt sticking up through the existing springs, but didn't check clearance for the springs yet, will wait until I have more time and actually install them. The springs and mounting kit look strong and should do their job. 157578

  • Reducing Rear End Sag on a 2015 Chevorlet Silverado 1500 4x4 when Carrying Heavy Loads
  • SuperSprings like # SSA5MTKT are really good at stabilization, specifically side to side and body roll, but for sagging there are better options. For your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 I recommend Timbren springs # TGMRCK15S. These springs are going to prevent sagging when carrying heavy loads in the bed and will also help with stability by decreasing body roll. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you.

  • Suspension Enhancement Product Recommendation for 2015 Silverado 1500 Towing 8500 lb Travel Trailer
  • The SuperSprings product will somewhat help with the bouncing you're experiencing, but I'd recommend that system more for preventing rear end sag and sway. For what you're experiencing, I'd recommend either an air bag system or a Aeon Spring set up that would replace the factory bump stop on your truck. Either type of system has its advantages and disadvantages. An air bag system allows you the ability of infinite adjustment by adding or removing air from the system. However, you'll...

  • Choosing SuperSprings Spring Kit or Weight Distribution for 2013 Ford F-150 Towing 30-ft Camper
  • Leaf spring kits like the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway-Control Leaf Spring Kit # SSA5MTKT are best suited to supporting cargo loads in the truck bed. The best solution for the issue of rear-end squat is a weight distribution (WD) system. WD systems don't just stiffen the rear suspension; they actually shift trailer tongue weight (TW) forward onto the truck's front axle. This simultaneously reduces rear-end squat and improves braking and steering performance by keeping...

  • Is There an Advantage to Installing 3000 lb SuperSprings over 2000 lb SuperSprings on a 2012 F-150
  • As long as the gross vehicle weight (GVW) of your 2012 Ford F-150 does not exceed 7,500 lbs, then you will be fine installing the 2,000 lb SuperSprings, # SSA5MTKT. The important thing to consider when you are choosing between the 2,000 lb SuperSprings or the 3,000 lb SuperSprings, # SSA28, is the GVW of your truck when it is fully loaded and hooked to your trailer. Your GVW will include the curb weight of the truck plus the weight of any passengers, cargo and the pin weight of your trailer....

  • Difference Between the Timbren and Supersprings Suspension Enhancement Systems on a 2015 Silverado
  • While it will not hurt your vehicle, using two suspension enhancement products at the same time could render one product ineffective or will cause one system to be used at limited potential. For example, if you try using both the Timberen Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK15S and the SuperSprings Suspension Stabilizer # SSA5MTKT, with a load in the truck, once the Timberen Springs engage the SuperSprings will not be doing much for the load. I do not recommend using both systems...

That would work just fine with a Firestone air kit like part # F2525 which does not install onto any portion of the leaf spring. The two suspension kits would work well together. This kit can be used on vehicles with or without overload springs so your truck having the tow package would be totally fine. • Experiencing Bounce When Towing 24 FT Pull Behind Trailer w/ 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • There are a couple things that come to mind that may help with the bounce that you are experiencing when towing the 24 ft pull behind trailer with your 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. I would start by checking to make sure that your trailer isn't overloaded. Next, make sure that the tongue weight is between 10 and 15 percent of the overall trailer weight. Not enough weight in the tongue can cause bounce in the truck/trailer connection and too much weight could cause bounce at the back of...

  • What Would Cause Trailer Sway That Starts at 55 Miles Per Hour
  • The kind of sway/bouncing that you described right at 55 miles per hour is due to improper trailer loading nearly every single time. You want to have your tongue weight equal to 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight otherwise you will get sway. What you need to do is move the weight of as much cargo as you can forward in your trailer so that you can get your tongue weight higher. Doing so will get rid of the sway. • How to Reduce Sway When Tandem Towing 2 Trailers
  • Tandem towing, towing one trailer with another trailer, is intrinsically more challenging than towing a single trailer. Any sway occurring in the first trailer (the 5th wheel) tends to get transmitted to the second trailer. Trailers that are light at the tongue (heavy at the rear) tend to sway more,...
