Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

Good piece of gear, works great supporting my new grand design 5th wheel. Installing was easy, only information I can pass is the 2x4 was not enough to seat the spring, had to add another 1/2 piece of wood to help seat the spring inside the cup..

Comments
Great, after 1 year the spring is still doing its job. No issues no complaints

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

My order arrived 4 days early, WOW. I did use 2 flat blade screw drivers to remove the old bumpers. When I installed the new Sumo Springs I put a little liquid soap on the top edges, this helped pop them in. I also used a piece of 2X4 to help push them in, and quickly released the floor jack and this seated them in fully. Quick install took about 20 min. I have less than 1" at the bottom. Unloaded ride is same as before. With my trailer attached (1200 LBS hitch weight) the short test drive I felt much better control and less bounce. Very happy with product and etrailer. THANK YOU!

I added helper springs to my 3500 chev and between the over loads springs and the sumo 1500 springs handls the 2800 pound king pin weight on my 35 foot 5th wheel AWESOME.

Run for 1year now and they are fantastic! They stabilize the ride under heavy load. Compensate when the overloads are under heavy stress. An excellent option for those who don't quite need the whole air ride suspension.

Sumo springs really helps on heavy load situations & helps the ride as well. Easy to install, does everything the company said & what I expected it to do. Etrailer ,their staff with their expertise & knowledge of the products as well as with tutorials , pictures & videos makes me come back to purchase products that they distribute.

Comments
Good so far. It does what I expected it to do, additional support for the heavy loads I’m carrying & not noticeable when unladen.

Easy install! The most time consuming part is getting tools together! I found that prying with a large flat-blade screwdriver worked best to remove the old bump-stops. There's about a 1/2" gap between the Sumosprings and the axle with B&W 5th wheel hitch installed but no trailer, so no change in ride when "empty". I haven't tested the Sumosprings with my 5th wheel hooked up yet.

They made a huge difference when pulling my 37' fifth wheel camper. Easy to install on 2016 Chevy 2500HD vs. dealing with air bags and on-board compressors

2016 Pontiac Montana

Easy to self install and have been exactly what I wanted. They have smoothed out the ride when we hook up to our 16,000 pound Montana. They also have leveled out the truck when hooked up. Well worth the expense.

Very good but I had to trim it to fit properly. Still fully satisfied

- SSR-207-47

These eliminated a lot of bounce and really smoothed out the ride with the trailer hooked up

2015 GMC 3500 HD

The application was straightforward... though prying out the OEM jounces and applying the new ones were more difficult than expected. Harry and Harriet Homeowner can install this in their garage without a lift. Jacking the weight off the tires and supporting the frame gives you more room to work. Using a 2x4 to aid in compression and seating the SumoSpring REALLY helped. The final result is excellent on our 2015 GMC 3500HD.

Great service and fast delivery for the parts we needed for our truck. The Sumos and the equalizer hitch are a great addition to our truck when pulling our heavy travel trailer. Thanks guys for everything.

- SSR-207-47

Removal of the old and installation of the new was fairly straight forward. However, you do need to be a little more creative on the installation side. I followed the instructions several times before deciding to drive with the 2x4's in place until the springs actually seated. I knew when I heard the pieces fall out. I would suggest not driving on a busy road during this portion. I give the install about a 3.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

We pull an off-road teardrop camper with our 2013 Toyota Tacoma and were looking for a little help with the rear end sag when we have that hitched plus putting some weight in the back of the truck (firewood, water, etc). Our Tacoma is lifted (2.5") but the lift kept the stock springs with an added Deaver leaf to help with the notoriously soft Toyota springs. However, with the shell and ~300 pounds of weight in the back, it still sagged, especially with another 250 lbs of tongue weight from the trailer. The Sumos have eliminated that sag, even with bigger loads in the bed, eliminated body roll (also notoriously bad with Tacomas) and didn't destroy the ride for day to day driving. There might be a slight bit more stiffness when hitting speed bumps, but definitely not bad at all. If anything, I would say it IMPROVED the ride and handling. The springs themselves were simple to install, less than half an hour start to finish. Some reviews have said they were bumping the frame after installing but we had about 1/2" gap on both sides. The only "specialty" tool would be a torque wrench capable of 90 lbs to get it to spec. We considered Firestone air bags but after talking with the reps at e-trailer, we decided on these and couldn't be happier. Reasonably priced (half the price of air bags), no maintenance, great customer service...can't argue with anything at all.

One year and working better than I imagined it would. Carrying loads in my Tacoma is no longer an exercise in fear and my shocks are way happier happier with a little help!

Review from a similar SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

We love our Sumos. They are easy to install and they helped with our sway and jouncing. Unfortunately, we just added a new rear suspension package which lifted the rear about 2 inches. Now the Sumos don’t touch the axle and won’t provide much sway damping. They act now more like a very fancy jounce bumper. Still good to know that the rear Sumos will give us extra protection should we hit a wicked pothole. Front sumos still snug against the axle and helping with sway and crosswinds

Review from a similar SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

Couldn’t have been a simpler install! Total time was less than 15 minutes which included digging the floor jack out, blocking the tires and cleanup. Makes a heck of a difference in keeping the nose of the truck up when towing trailer or hauling 16 golf cart batteries.

Comments
Still awesome. A year later, have hauled up to 16 golf cart batteries with no issues due to the weight. A real help in getting the work done without the fear of bottoming out.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Solo in Vehicle Suspension

2018 silverado z71 crew cab 6'6 bed Replaced air bags with 1000# sumo springs. Do a lot of offroading and bags limited travel. With these I can use my suspension and stay level on the trip with all my gear. Nicer ride unloaded and even sweeter when loaded. Easy 40 min install if you're use to working on your own stuff. A definite upgrade.

  • Comparing SumoSprings and Timbrens for a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500
The main difference between the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-207-47 and the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCK25D for a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 is the hardness. The Timbrens are much harder than the SumoSprings therefore will provide more support. That said, this also means that the ride quality while loaded will be less desirable. The best option really just depends on which you will be doing more of, if you will be towing mostly then go with...

  • Can Timbrens Be Installed On a Lowered 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
The best suspension enhancement option we have for a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 that is lowered is the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-207-47 for rear or part # SSF-202-47 for front which can be trimmed to better fit the space you have available. • Why is 2 x 4 Lumber Included in Parts List for SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs # SSR-207-47
You ask a good question. Indeed, a "short length of 2 x 4" is listed in the installation instructions as one of the tools needed to install the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs # SSR-207-47, yet this item is not referred to in any of the installation steps. My technical contact at SumoSprings advised that the 2 x 4 is recommended to help get their springs fully seated in the cups that held the factory bump stops. For your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD towing a 12,000 lb fifth wheel trailer I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-207-47, because Timbrens will make your ride a bit rougher than the SumoSprings. The SumoSprings work by progressively compressing based on the weight of the load compared to the rubber Timbren springs, which is why they do not give you as bumpy a ride. The SumoSprings also do not require any type of drilling for installation as you can see in the...

The # SSR-207-47 SumoSpring is 5 inches tall. Usually, the underside of the spring would sit about 1-2 inches above the axle. For crew cab models, the extra weight of the cab would cause the rear to settle a bit more, with the bottom of the spring sitting just above or right on the axle.

  • What is the Weight Capacity of the SuperSprings part # SSR-207-47
When at 50 percent compression the Super Springs part # SSR-207-47 can provide 1,500 lbs of additional capacity. This will give you additional suspension support and will also allow for a smoother ride quality unloaded than the Timbren. You should note that these kits do not allow you to add their capacity to your truck capacity to get a new, higher capacity.
