An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2016 FordF-350 Super Duty

Installed these Timbrens on my 2016 F350 to enhance the stability of my truck for a slide in truck camper. Have loved the results of them. They have noticeably helped leveling the truck/camper combo, and sway while driving. When the camper is off the truck these are not engaged. Have had no issues and would recommend them.

As expected. No issues and still performing perfectly.

We got these Timbrens for our truck that hauls a truck camper. Took the sway out of driving

The extreme timbrens are definitely extreme! We should have purchased the standard timbrens as the extreme one shake our teeth and our truck with the camper on it. They are so stiff that they don’t provide any suspension to the rear axle. It more or less a dead or fixed axle. I’d prefer and recommend the standard timbrens!

by:

I have had airbags before and debated on trying Timbren's for my latest dually instead. I have not been disappointed. I haul both a Lance cab over camper and a gooseneck trailer with a backhoe and these Timbren's keep the truck level and balanced. I would recommend them for the price savings and ease of install over airbags. I have a friend with a single rear wheel F350 and he has the same good results hauling as well.

by:

Hi quality parts but worthless instructions. No sequence of assembly and the orientation of the brackets are totally wrong in the illustration. You should pre assemble the bracket to the rubber bumper then install that in the truck frame.

Just as well as it did on day one. I am so happy with it that recommended it to my son who wants to install airbags. Now he is thinking about it. He drives a 2016 F250.

FordF-350 Super Duty

I've had the Timbrens installed for about a year now and can report that they have done exactly what I wanted from them. The install was pretty easy (did it in the driveway using my creeper).
My F350 was squatting a bit from the 3000# pin weight and I wanted to reduce that. Unloaded I can't tell they are there unless I hit a pretty big bump and when we're hitched they eliminate most of the squat and the truck is now pretty level when towing. I was thinking about installing air bags but went this route since it was simple and cost less. It's a great product!
I've read some complaints about a rough ride when unloaded and I think that's due to not getting the unloaded gap right during installation.

2016 FordF-350 Super Duty

The Timbrens are great. I have not had the truck with a full load yet but I anticipate they will help bring the truck back to level. The install went well but we were not able to use the additional spacer even with the longer bolts. We were not able to put enough pressure on the bolt to get the nut started. I don’t believe I will need the spacers so it should be ok. The directions didn’t include the amount of torque that was needed so I sent e-trailer an email. They checked with Timbren and the torque is 1/4 turn after they are tight. Ive attached some pictures of the completed install.

2015 FordF-350 Super Duty

My 2015 F-350 dually would always squat when I’d hook up my fifth wheel.
Towed it for the first time since purchase and install and the truck is nice and level. The ride is better also and after driving a bit without the camper I don’t really notice them. I love the simplicity of these over airbags and imagine they won’t be needing any maintenance or replacement anytime soon. Great simple solution. Not so easy for an old fat guy to install
laying under the truck in the driveway but I managed!

They work. It is nice towing nice and level now. The ride with the load on is good and smooth and very stable. I am still very happy I went them. Put them on and forget about them, no maintenance and no worries.

by:
2016 FordF-350 Super Duty

Installation was a breeze on my 2016 F-350 sbcc 4x4 thanks to the provided videos (didn't even need to jack up the truck). It has performed as advertised towing a 16,000 lb 5th wheel, no squat, rides great on most surfaces and handles curves with little effort. The frosting on the cake is the fact that they require no maintenance! I will never buy another set of air bags again!

Just came back from a 5,000 mile trip through 6 states towing a 16,000 5th wheel. We encountered everything from dirt roads to major city interstates. The Timbrens performed flawlessly as advertised.

by:

I love the timbrens. Installed on a f350 with a Arctic fox 811 camper. They work awesome alot less roll then airbags.

by:

Although these timbrens worked better than the standard suspension I ultimately had to remove them and replace them with airbags which worked substantially better. They were relatively easy to install. I didn't see any issues with the quality of the product I just don't think it was sufficient enough to provide the additional suspension support for my heavy camper. The airbags work much better. My timbrens have spent now most of their time in a box in my garage still in near new condition.

2015 Ford Fusion

I have installed and used the Timbrens on my 2015 F350 dually with my 5th wheel Keystone Fusion RV for a year now. i have to say that the Timrens are not only easy to install but make the ride of my truck excellent not only on the highway but back roads as well that includes very twisty turns. Timbrens keep my truck level and i don't have to ever worry about airbag air pressure. i have owned airbags before and never again will i ever buy or use them. When you don't have a load in the bed or your RV hooked up the Timbrens ride above then axles.. Best investment for towing period!

by:

Great product and installs easily. I did not use the spacer, so this allows the stock suspension about 1-1/2" of travel before contacting the Timbren units. I tow a 16K fifth wheel and the Timbren's handle this load very well. You can see the compression marking on the lower side of the Timbren when the trailer is hooked up to the truck. Just enough contact to keep the truck at a level stance. My stock "bump stops" were starting to fall apart from age and wear/tear. These Timbrens now add an extra level of suspension that makes the truck feel much more in control when pulling the fifth wheel.

2016 FordF-350 Super Duty

I drive a F350 Super Duty, 2016, Crew cab, short bed. I pull a 38 FT, 16,500 GVWR goose neck 3 horse with living quarters. I was going to put in air bags as I was sick of slamming into my bump stops and my headlights aiming to the sky; oddly the trailer towed great except for those two items. I had thought about the Timbren's but was hesitant. After my trailer guys at Triple C in Watervliet, MI; great guys, told me they had stopped putting in air bags, but now suggested the Timbren enhancement system, I thought I would try it.
GREAT PRODUCT; cheaper than airbags, easier to install, no maintenance and works great. I put them and immediately drove the horses from Chicago to West Palm with no problems. Truck is almost perfectly level now. I did not have one of the shuddering slamming events I typically get 3 of in Indiana alone. I would strongly recommend.

Also; he service was great. The online ordering would have gotten it to me late, but I called and LaceyG was a huge help in getting it with that days shipments. She was also a big help on finalizing my decision.

by:
2012 FordF-350 Super Duty

I placed these on my 2012 F-350 SRW as an alternative to putting air bags on due to the price difference. The timbrens have worked well when pulling but has taken the rough ride of a one ton truck and made it worse under normal driving conditions. These don't allow for much travel of the suspension when going down the road and hitting normal bumps. If you're considering these or airbags spend the extra money on airbags and be done once and for all.

by:
2012 FordF-350 Super Duty

This system worked very well. The Timbren system brought the truck back to level and also help the sway of the truck. This suspension Enhancement system went on a 2012 Ford F350 after adding a truck camper of 4000lbs.I am glad I went this way instead of air bags.

by:
2008 FordF-350 Super Duty

i have finally hooked up after installing Timbren rear suspension system it ended up being what i was hoping for took the sag out took the sway out of driving when pulling loaded trailers i have been missing my dually this system has sure helped with my 2008 f350 single wheeled pickup a lot cheaper than air bags did not give an excellent review because have not pulled enough to see how the system holds up

by:

Have not towed our fifth wheel with these installed yet which was the main reason for the purchase. Towed a dump trailer and the added stability was definitely noted. With my truck loaded as usual with several hundreds of pounds of gear (two tool boxes, wood dunnage for leveling camper, ladder, B&W Companion fifth wheel hitch/Turnover ball, floor jack, tire inflator, jumper cables, screw gun kit, two traffic cones, brooms, squeegee - you get the idea!) the Timbrens are in contact with the bumper bars on the axle setup. Was hoping that the springs would not be in contact during normal daily driving but the stiffening of the ride is more than tolerable. I did not install the additional spacers as I could tell it would just add more weight to the Timbrens when loaded for daily driving. I'm sure if my truck bed was truly empty I would be off of the Timbrens.

As for the five star rating without using these for the primary purpose I must say that is all on etrailer. They were great to deal with, answered a question I had very well and the shipping was extremely fast.

by:

Easy install, and they do a fantastic job when pulling our 17k 5th wheel. Less than 1/2” of squat with them. They do cause a little stiffer ride, when empty, because the difference between the bump stop and Tembren is only about 1/2”. But well worth it, when they are doing their job while pulling. Well worth the money and would definitely recommend.

by:
2013 FordF-350 Super Duty

No complaints with Etrailer customer service and delivery time. I thought I would need the spacer, and while putting everything together to check the fit, the bolts were not long enough. I drove to hardware stores for longer bolts. Well I did not need the spacer, and wasted some time. The stock stops were a bitch to take off. The only method that worked was tie wrapping pliers to the stops to grip in order to turn the bolts. The Timbren stops went on very easy. I hooked up my trailer for a drive. The truck does not sag and does not bump up and down as before. I drive a 2013 Ford F-350 single axle. I took my wife for a ride with out the trailer and she feel the stiffness of the Timbren, but nothing uncomfortable.

This is my second set of Timbren SES, I had purchased this product previously ,for a F350 pulling a Sundowner Gooseneck Trailer. Updated truck, had to have another set.....NO trailer sway-sagging, excellent product, easy installation too. I would recommend this!

2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Bought the Timbren Susp. System for a 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty used to pull a 16,000# fifth wheel trailer. Had this on my former 2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty used to pull a 12,000# fifth wheel and the Timbren Susp. System kept the rear from sagging when the trailer was loaded. Keeping the truck level really made the truck more stable and enjoyable to drive when pulling the fifth wheel.
