SuperSprings diagram of roller and shackle system for extra leaf spring

These additional leaf springs add support and sway control to your existing OEM suspension. Just bolt on SuperSprings over your existing factory springs, and they automatically work when you need them. As the factory spring flexes, a roller at each end of the beefy helper spring reacts to engage the helper spring and to provide extra support. The springs help to better distribute cargo weight throughout your existing suspension, channeling that weight to the points on the frame that are designed to support heavy loads.

SuperSprings leaf spring installed on a vehicle

Placing these leaf springs above your factory springs helps to keep your OEM springs from twisting, so the SuperSprings act like a sway bar, reducing the body roll that makes driving more difficult and dangerous. With these helper springs, driving is safer and easier when it's windy, when your vehicle is rocked by a passing semi, and when you are cornering. The springs help to reduce sway by up to 30 percent. SuperSprings also allow more wheel travel in the rear suspension when they are under load, so they maintain traction and ride comfort better than rubber or polyurethane bumpers. That means they're great for drivers who frequently tow.

Truck before SuperSpringsTruck after SuperSprings

You can also customize the level of support provided by SuperSprings. For most models, the shackles that attach the helper leaf springs to your existing leaf springs have several installation options:

  • For greater support and ride height when your suspension is under a constant load or if you have an older automobile with some spring fatigue, install the helper springs using the upper bolt holes
  • To maintain the factory ride and reduce the effect on your ride height, install using the lower bolt holes
  • To balance support, height, and ride comfort, install using the upper hole on one end and the lower hole on the other

SuperSprings are a maintenance-free, low-cost alternative to air spring systems, which require constant monitoring and air pressure adjustment. These helper leaf springs respond automatically to the load you carry, so there is no crawling under your truck to adjust them. You'll also reduce wear and tear on your suspension, brakes, and tires, which saves you money. The bolt-on installation means that they are easy to fit - no drilling required.

Video Transcript for SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer Installation - 2017 Ford F-150

Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 Ford F-150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit, part number SSA28.Here's what our SuperSprings are going to look like once we have 'em installed. Now, these are going to give us the support we need whenever we're hauling a heavy load or towing a heavy trailer. Typically, whenever we're hauling something extremely heavy, our suspension wants to flex a lot and our back end sags down. Well, these are going to provide us the extra support by activating whenever our suspension flexes. The rollers on the end of our leaf spring are going to activate our helper spring and provide us that extra support, but also still giving us a nice ride when we're not towing something heavy because it's going to deactivate those springs and still have a nice, comfortable ride.Since they're attached to the front and back of our factory leaf springs, it's also going to act like a sway bar and it's going to prevent our leaf springs from twisting, giving us a lot more stability when we're driving down the road. The multiple notches in the end here are going to provide us with a little bit of customization.

Depending on how much support we need, if we need more, or if we just have a little bit of spring fatigue in our truck, it'll give us that little bit of lift so whenever we're towing something, we don't have quite as much sag.Whenever we're towing or hauling something heavy, the back end typically sags, but that's going to put a lot of stress and strain on our factory suspension in the back, not to mention in the front, it's going to lift up, which'll misalign our headlights and take less contact of our tires touching the road. We'll go ahead and measure the factory measurements. The back here, the center line of the wheel, it's going to be right about 40 and a quarter inches. Now, at the front, it's going to be right about 37 and a half inches, and that's with no weight in the bed of the truck. Let's go ahead and add some weight and see what those measurements are.We have a water tank in the bed of our truck as a heavy load or to simulate the tongue weight of a heavy trailer or a fifth wheel.

Let's go ahead and take the measurements and see what it did. At the same point, it dropped our truck about three inches in the back. Now, in the front, it raised it up about a half an inch. Now, with the same load in our truck, we can already visually just see that it made quite a bit of difference. Now, if I take a few measurements, measuring at the same point, we're right at about 38 and a quarter inches, so it still did drop down, but not as bad. Now, in the front, we're just over 37 and three-quarters, so again, it did bring it up a little bit, but it is helping out, not bringing it as high. What you're really going to like about these leaf springs is the fact that they're extremely easy to install.

There's not going to be any kind of drilling involved and once we have 'em in, they're completely maintenance-free. Unlike a lot of air springs, we're not going to have to worry about any valves, adjusting the air pressure, or worrying about any leaks. To begin our installation, you're going to want to lift the back end of your truck by the frame so that the suspension can hang down and then the tires are off the ground.Next, we're going to prep our spring in order to get it on our truck. Now, to do this, we're going to need a three-quarter inch socket and a wrench. Now, on each end, we're going to have these black plastic rollers with a bushing inside and it's being held on by a half-inch nut and bolt. Using our wrench and socket, we'll go ahead and take those off and hold onto the roller and bushing.

We'll do that for both sides. If we come right where our factory leaf springs meet our axle, we're going to have our U-bolts and we're going to have a couple bolts on top. We can grab our polyurethane block and you'll notice that the large section in the middle has a couple notches on either side along with four round sections that are sticking out. You're going to want to put that large section with the notches in between the two bolts so it's just resting right on top of our leaf spring pack just like this.Next, we can take our leaf spring and to make it a little bit easier to get in place, I'm going to come from the backside and feed it in until I can just loosely get it sitting on top of my factory leaf springs. We don't need to get the positioning right just yet. We just want to make sure that it's stable and it's not going to fall down. Now we can rotate those silver tabs so they're pointing down towards the ground and at this point, our leaf spring is going to slide a lot back and forth, but that's okay. Like I said, we're just getting everything in position right now.Next, we're going to take our roller with our bushing and our bolt and for the front eyelet, we're going to go through the very top hole closest to our leaf spring, so we can slide our roller and bushing in place and we're going to take our bolt and we're going to pass it through 'til it goes all the way through both sides. Then we're going to loosely secure it with the nut that we removed from earlier. Now we're going to connect the rear one the same way. Slide our bushing in place. You may need to kind of pull down just a little bit on the leaf spring in order to get everything lined up. We want to make sure that bolt goes all the way through both eyelets. Then we're going to secure it with that half-inch nut that we removed from earlier. Now here in the front, we actually moved our bolt to the second hole to get the proper adjustment. With our leaf spring loosely in place, we want to make sure that at the back eyelet here, that we have at least three-quarters to an inch of space between the first obstruction. We have our lower piece of our leaf spring here, which is going to be a little bit more than an inch away and then back here, we have a little bit more than an inch as well, so we're okay. Now on the front side, it's not as big of a concern. Our big concern up here is that we are behind the spring clamp here and we only need about a quarter of an inch of travel each direction, so once we get that, we can tighten up our bolts. We're going to be using that same three-quarter inch wrench and socket, and we're just going to snug up that hardware. We don't need to go extra tight. We just want to make sure that it's nice and snug and that the bolt is going to go through the locknut. We'll tighten the front bolt as well. With this side done, we'll go ahead and repeat that and do that for the other side as well. That'll finish up your look at the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit, part number SSA28 on our 2017 Ford F-150.

2017 Ford F-150

It a good product for 2017 Ford f150 except 1 factor that it had to mounted more toward the rear and the no bracket to hold it in place if I get a tire rotation or lift the vehicle from the rear the spring roll away and need to clamped while lowering the vehicle. I contacted Super directly to there warranty department and they sent me a lock down kit. It also Lifted the truck about a inch on low setting so I'm sitting at 39 inch in rear. 505177

Just installed and I loved how easy it was took 30 min tops. I expected a much stiffer rear end with the bed empty but was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the ride remained. I did notice a more stable and responsive feel while driving. All in all super impressed with the product so far, shipping was fast (ordered Saturday and received Wednesday, in canada) everything I needed was in the kit and it only raised the rear end up about 1/2". 316290

After having used partial and full ‘add-a-leaf’ kits on fleet trucks in the past, I was willing to give these a try. Having missed the stiffness of a 2500 rear end and having put 125k on a 1500 with a topper/camper shell, this was the progressive stiffness I was looking for. The vehicle sits 1.5” higher at the rear, isn’t overly stiff, alowing the Bilstein shocks to continue to do their job, properly. Adding the tow behind camper, along with a loaded bed, far less body sway without a compromised ride. I also utilized the SumoShocks (front and rear), for some time and I love them. Having everything together, as a package, works great for me when towing, the bed is loaded down and when I’m traveling 2hrs at a time from place to place, as a highway truck. This will take some serious C clamps (8” from hardware store) and some mechanical aptitude if using a jack and stand(s) in the garage. Overall, not too strenuous or hard. Nothing intimidating. I’d definitely recomend to anyone wanting to help tired leaf springs or when reducing body roll. 557350

The Sumo Springs continue to provide wonderful results. Many friends with 2500 trucks and onlookers at campgrounds are amazed when we tow our 38’ trailer weighing around 8k lbs when loaded, plus the truck bed loaded with wood and bikes, etc, the family and dog in the cab... All with little to no squat! The ride stays consistent to the 2500 feel I like and it allows me to keep my ol’ beater with high miles and a few thousand miles. I definitely recommend the Sumo Springs and their products. Again, having had their products on other vehicles with more than happy results, I don’t foresee ever purchasing a vehicle and not, at the least, including the rear bump stop supports and adding the leaf kit from there.

Product was delivered quickly and in good condition. These springs worked great on my 2003 F-150. They did add about 1" of lift to the rear end of the truck, but make for a level ride when trailering my boat or equipment trailer. 162484

I installed these on my 2013 F150 they fit great lifted the truck about 1inch but did not affect the ride. When I pull my 8X17 fish house the truck sits nice and level now. Other sites recommended the install kit which is not needed on this vehicle. E trailers was great to order from. Shipping was a week early. 464111

Still stand by this product, all of my future trucks will have super springs. Still a nice ride and no noise.

Both the Drawtite hitch and the super springs went in fairly trouble free. I don't follow directions. there is a better method to install the hitch. Lift the front of the bed up four or five inches. Then preassemble the hitch and slide it over the frame. Center in the predrilled holes and tighten the bolts. 772559

2018 Chevrolet Silverado

I purchased super springs for my 2018 Silverado 1500. It raised the rear about 2 inches. Attaching my 1/2 ton lite fifth wheel dropped the truck back to level. After a roundtrip from NC to MA, I found the decision to purchase the super springs was the right choice. With 18 wheelers passing by me I experienced no sway. Best of all, no maintenance is required for this addition. When towing my 5th wheel w/o the springs, I experienced a little sway and bobbing and the front of my truck was noticeably higher. 767866

Installed on my 2018 Raptor and got 2.5 inches of lift back. I do overland with about 650lbs of gear on the back so I wouldn't expect the same results if you are not running as heavy as I am. I could immediately feel the ride difference and the install took less than an hour. 580228

2005 Ford F-150

Part arrived and looked great. Very easy to install. Only two things that can be fixed is that the springs only go on one way and they are not marked front/rear, and its not real clear how the the rubber spacer is used. I installed these on a 2005 ford F-150 Supercrew and I pull a 30 foot travel trailer. I have installed air bags to level the truck/trailer, but at 50psi the kids in the back seat got beat up due to the poor ride. I'm hoping these springs will level the truck/trailer and give us a better ride. We going up north this weekend and I hope i can re-post how the trip went. 280234

  • Installation of SuperSprings SSA28 on a 2016 Ford F-150 4x4
The SuperSpings that fit your 2016 Ford F-150 4x4 are # SSA28. Installation is not difficult though the one customer that had a problem with spring orientation is right: they only go on one way. But it is easy to figure out because if a spring is going on properly you would just flip it the other way to the proper orientation. I have linked the instructions so you can see what all is involved.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation For a 2016 Ford F-150 Towing Fifth Wheel
I would recommend the Supersprings part # SSA28. The Timbrens work great but they tend to have a harsher ride quality when the truck is unloaded so for a vehicle with softer suspension like your 2016 Ford F-150 you would feel this much more. The # SSA28 won't have the harshness and would work great so I would recommend it for you. It also will help act as an anti-sway bar which will help the truck handle better as well.

In terms of sway control this will provide better results than Timbren kit # TGMRCK15S since it supports the primary suspension whenever it is under any load, such as from a wind blast. Suspension enhancement systems, like the Super Springs # SSA28, can be used with weight distribution systems. The correct SuperSprings kit for your 2014 Ford F-150 is the part # SSA28 which is a confirmed fit and will provide an additional 1,500 lbs of suspension support. There isn't a different fit that has a higher capacity.

  • Orientation of SuperSprings # SSA28 on a 2014 Ford F-150
I watched an installation video for SuperSprings # SSA28 on a newer Ford F-150. The spring that has the SuperSprings decal on it was used on the passenger's side with the decal side forward of the tire. If you notice, the springs have a certain shape to them. The driver's side would then be a mirror image of the passenger's side if that makes sense.

  • Sway Control Recommendation for 2015 Ford F-150 Towing 20 Foot Trailer
Sounds like you are looking for a friction sway control unit like the Pro Series part # 83660. This is designed for eliminating the sway that trailers will sometimes experience when getting passed by semi trucks like what you described. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well. Also if you can move any of the trailer's cargo weight forward that will help as well.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2013 Ford F-150 Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer
For a suspension enhancement setup for your 2013 Ford F-150 that you plan to install a fifth wheel hitch in I would recommend the SuperSprings kit part # SSA28 as it has been confirmed to fit your vehicle, won't require you to maintain air pressure in air bags, and because it also works as an anti-sway setup.

  • Trailer Equipped with W/D System and Sway Control Still Experiencing Trailer Sway
The way that your trailer is loaded can have a significant impact on the way your trailer handles. If most of the load (baggage, etc.) is to the rear of the trailer, it will contribute to the swaying condition you describe. Before proceeding further, I would recommend moving as much gear as possible toward the front of the trailer and see if this improves your handling issues. Keep in mind that increasing the amount of tongue weight might require you to readjust the weight distribution...

  • What Typically Causes Bouncy Ride Quality with Trailer that has Weight Distribution Installed
Any form of suspension enhancement will not reduce the bounce you are experiencing. Typically when a weight distribution system causes a bouncy ride quality it's because it is rated too high for the tongue weight of the trailer. Or you have too much spring bar tension in the setup, but most likely it's a rating issue. If you can let me know the tongue weight of your trailer and which Reese weight distribution system you have I can verify if that's the issue and we can go from there.

  • Suspension System for a 2012 F-150 Crew Cab 6 Foot Bed and Tool Box with 700 Lbs Tools
The Super Springs additional leaf springs, # SSA28, would be the best option to add support and sway control to your existing OEM suspension, since you have a constant 700 lb load on your truck. This system will also help decrease the bouncing that you are getting when the vehicle suspension is temporarily unloaded because of a large bump or pothole. There would be no reason that you would have to remove the Timbren springs and they will be there for additional support at times when you...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2013 Cadillac Escalade with Magnetic Ride
Firestone has a suspension kit that is confirmed to fit your 2013 Cadillac Escalade that has the magnetic suspension or "AutoRide". For that you'd want the part # F4186 and you'd be set.

  • Recommended SuperSprings Suspension Stabilizer for a 2014 Ford F-150
The SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit part # SSA28 is an excellent option for your 2014 Ford F-150. It's going to help level the ride if you are towing or loaded as well as help to prevent body roll and shifting loads. I called SuperSprings and they informed me that this particular kit uses a metal spacer between the leaf springs however, similar kits will use a poly spacer block. Once the weight is placed back over the rear axle, the suspension preload...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2016 GMC Sierrra 1500 with 5th Wheel Rail Kit
We have suspension enhancement that does fit your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 short bed that is compatible with fifth wheel rail kits and also will give you the support you are wanting but none of the air bag kits are compatible with in bed rail kits. So what I recommend is the SuperSprings kit part # SSA28 as this will give you the support you are wanting and is perfectly compatible with in-bed hitches. Also you won't have to mess with running air lines or maintaining air pressure either.

  • Are SuperSprings Suspension Enhancement a Good Choice for 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500
The SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit # SSA28 is going to do exactly what you are looking for it to do on your 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 - support your truck's back end and reduce sway by stabilizing your leaf springs. What I really like about these are customizable for your need when installing them no matter if you have a heavy load, a bit of weight in the bed, or are just occasionally towing. These are very simple to install, bolting on and you won't have...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2018 Ford F-150 With 6 Inch Lift
I am not familiar with the Pro Comp kit; I did look it up and from the installation manual it seems like all parts of the rear suspension were affected. Can you confirm if there is any type of interference with the leaf spring? Your only option is going to be a kit that attaches above the factory leaf spring but if there is interference of any kind then it would not be a fit.
