  • 5-Year limited warranty for non-commercial applications
  • 2-Year limited warranty for commercial applications

Most OEM coil suspensions have a difficult time supporting heavy front loads like winches, brush guards and snowplows. If your coil springs are totally squished under a load, the lack of shock absorption can be harsh on your backside, especially if you spend long hours sitting in your vehicle while clearing snow. Insert these helper springs in between the individual coil loops in your front coil springs to help defeat driver fatigue and to better support heavy front loads.

Coil SumoSpring installed between rungs of coil spring

Each doughnut-shaped spring has H-shaped channels at the top and bottom that fit to a rung of each coil in your front coil springs. Inside each round spring, a core of microcellular polyurethane foam adds cushioning between your coils. The cushioning absorbs shock, but also works progressively to better support front loads, and it keeps the front end more level. Included zip-ties also aid in securing the helper springs to your coil springs. Unbumpify your ride with these SumoSprings for coil suspensions.

Video Transcript for Review of SuperSprings Vehicle Suspension - Front Axle Suspension Enhancement - CSS-1094F

Today we're taking a look at the SumoSprings custom helper springs for coil spring suspensions. These helper spring inserts increase ride comfort and enhance your coil suspension's ability to support loads. They have an inner core of micro cellular polyurethane foam to provide cushioning and support. They adjust progressively to the weight of your load. So that means the more you load onto your vehicle, the stiffer these become. It really helps reduce body roll and it helps level your vehicle. They withstand extreme temperatures.

They're a really nice durable design. So the durable springs resists damage that's typically caused by abrasions, oils, road salts, and UV rays. They install easily on the front suspension coils. They got these nice deep grooves right here, so they are going to be held in place very securely. But if you want to add in the cable ties, or the zip ties that come with the kit, these are included to assist or aid in holding the helper springs in place in the coil.So they insert between the individual coils of each coil spring, custom fit for your application.

Again comes with additional zip ties to aid in holding the helper springs in place. Those can be inserted through these little holes on the coil, or on the springs, and then looped around the coil and then secure tight. These can be installed with or without removing the strut from the vehicle, and they can be installed with or without removing the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Just always keep in mind that if you are able to remove the tire and wheel assembly, you're definitely going to have a lot more room to work around. My favorite feature about this kit is that they don't require any maintenance. It's an install and forget about them type situation, so that's always nice.

Included with this part number, you get two helper springs, you get the zip ties and you get detailed installation instructions to walk you through the whole process step by step. Product's made in the USA. This kit's designed for the front coil spring suspension system. It's designed to work with a suspension system that's in good working order. And just keep in mind that the coil Sumo Springs do not increase your vehicle's weight carrying capacities, so be careful not to exceed the manufacturer's weight limit for your vehicle. That's going to do it for today's look at the SumoSprings custom helper springs for coil spring suspensions..

Installed on 2006 F 150 to prevent front sag when using front hitch mounted cooler rack for surf fishing. Easy install. Start at bottom of spring where there is more room to work. Loosely install tie wraps then rotate sumo to top of spring between 2 and 3 coil, then tighten tie wraps. Haven't had chance to evaluate performance with cooler rack. 628991

Review from a similar SumoSprings Coil in Vehicle Suspension

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it. First off, the Toyota Highlander is built on a car suspension, not a truck suspension, so a lot of the towing accessories you can get for trucks do not apply. I have a boat and trailer that weight approximately 2200 lbs, and the tongue weight although not too big causes the rear end of my highlander to sink a bit more than I'd like, and you could feel the car suspension bounce a little bit too much when the trailer bounced. I purchased this product and had my mechanic install it. It did just what I expected, and the ride is much better now. Plus when the trailer is not attached, the little bit of rise makes the vehicle look meaner to the point where I might just paint sharks teeth on the front bumpers (okay maybe not, but I thought about it). 248527

I installed these on my 2010 Toyota Highlander FWD before starting a year long trip towing a 18ft camper trailer around the western USA. The Highlander did not have any options to “beef up” the rear suspension, so I installed these on the rear springs. They improved the ride and reduced the rear end “squatting”. We are 7 months and 13,000 into the trip and they are still doing great. 618035

I installed on a 2014 Ford Expedition EL. I should have done this last year, it made it handle like it was new again both loaded down and when it was just me driving. It also retained the stock ride feeling with no harsh or roughness to speak of. For the folks that have a strut style rear suspension and put any kind if weight in their suv's and/or pull a tralier, this is a must. Also, no mentionable increase in ride height. 403904

Coil SumoSprings for a 2008 Honda Fit Sport. I ordered the correct springs based on etrailer's website and when it came time to install them, we discovered they were too big. I called etrailer customer service and was fortunate to be connected to Natalie L. Natalie was patient and after a couple of calls, found the springs that work for my vehicle. Natalie updated the website to reflect the accurate part number. Natalie, thank you for making the return process painless. Your customer service was outstanding, Natalie. As an aside, it's difficult finding and keeping good employees. I'd do what I could to keep Natalie. The replacement springs have been installed and working as expected. 612381

The product was easy to install and really helped with the extra load of pulling a trailer and having a packed car. Towed a 6'x 9' trailer from CA to NC with about 2500 lbs of extra weight. When not towing or having an extra load car still rides good. Worth the money. 348033

I installed these on a 2014 equinox with a 4-banger. Took me 10 min to install, suv didnt sag as much when my small boat was attached. Ride quality was same as before. I sold the car awhile back and the springs went with. I would recommend to a friend though. My boat weighed 1000lbs total including trailer, dont think your going to be able to pull much more then that. 239659

Review from a similar SumoSprings Coil in Vehicle Suspension

I received the Sumo Springs Coil Helper yesterday and was able to install it in less than an hour on my 2007 Odyssey. May be even quicker if I had a better jack(i had to lift one side at a time). My van now has raised significantly. With a three Mountain bike rack, camping gear loaded with the roof box, the van's rear end was too sagged. I gained close to two inches after installation. I do notice a difference in the cushioning, but that is very marginal. Overall, I am very happy about this product and would recommend if your car's rear end needs a lift/ support. Installation was very simple with the hand soap applied. I will do a follow-up review after few weeks when I put a few hundred miles for my summer trips. 538473

Review from a similar SumoSprings Coil in Vehicle Suspension

I could not place the SumoSprings in the middle of the coil springs to start installation. Rather I had to start lower on the coil springs, where the spacing is wider, and then slide the SumoSprings up to the middle. I used a screwdriver run into the holes for that purpose to help slide the SumoSprings to the middle of the coil springs. Otherwise, the installation went well. There seems to be less squat in the rear of my '04 Highlander when my camping trailer is attached. 146775

2015 Highlander XLE AWD. It works for what I intended. The hitch raised 1 1/2" under load. The load was around 1000lbs in the vehicle and a 250lb cargo basket on the hitch. If you count the hitch and misc items in the vehicle, the load would was 1350lbs out of the 1445lb payload. Without the sumosprings, it easily bottomed out. It does not level like an air bag system, however it improves the ride dramatically under load and does not bottom out. Most of the negative reviews I read were people expecting their highlander to tow a travel trailer. Not a vehicle I would choose for the job. Even light travel trailers have high tongue weights. Add people, a weight distributing hitch, equiptment and your payload is gone. The ride does not change unloaded. Until a better product is available, I'll be sticking with this one. Installation was very simple. 470414

Not as easy to install as noted in the documentation; Otherwise, they are performing as advertised. I have not lost the ride quality yet I noticed a difference pulling our fully loaded trailer with the Jeep or the bikes. Much better handling. I would have preferred air bags, but these are doing the job. 555912

Review from a similar SumoSprings Coil in Vehicle Suspension

Etrailer customer service is always excellent. This product installs easily and quickly and performs as claimed. Provided just enough additional compressive loading resistance in conjunction with the rear struts to prevent bottoming out while towing a lightweight pop up camper. Quick fix for folks hauling something with 100 pounds or less of tongue weight. Tips: 1" overlap worked best on my Subaru. SumoSpring elastomer cut easily and accurately with a band saw. Knife works but the elastomer is slippery and the cut is less than accurate. As you push the zip ties through their holes put an index finger under the hole on the inside and direct the end of the zip tie upwards to make it easy to retrieve. Make zip ties snug but not so tight they distort the geometry of the elastomer. 122065

Comments
Continue to be pleased with the SumoSprings on our 2005 Subaru Outback. The alternative was to spend $800 for new heavy duty rear struts. They work well to prevent bottoming out when towing a camper and dont seem to effect the overall ride quality when not towing a trailer.

For your application, on your 2005 Ford F-150, I think that the SumoSprings, # CSS-1094F, would be a good choice.
