Front Suspension Support

A heavy front load can cause front-end sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the front axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your rear axle, your rear tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.


Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.


Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy front load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your rear tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.


The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.


Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

Today our 2006 Fleetwood Bounder motor home, we're going to be taking at and showing you how to install the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs for the front axle. That's going to be part number SSF-280-47. Here's what our helper springs look like once we have them installed. These are going to greatly improve the handling of our motor home, as well as making our ride more comfortable, because they're going to support our suspension and help out carrying all that weight and prolong the life of it. It's also going to absorb a lot of the bumps and road shocks as we're driving down the road. So it's going to be a lot more comfortable.

One thing I really like about our helper springs, is that once they're installed, they're completely maintenance free. We're not going to have to worry about adjusting air pressure or running air lines like you do with air bags.I do want to mention that we have our motor home lifted so the suspension is hanging down and there's quite a big gap right here. Whenever we lower it back down to the ground, our helper spring is going to come in contact with the leaf spring, and that's going to take a lot of that weight and absorb a lot of that shock. Our springs are going to be a progressive rate spring, which means when we have a soft load or no extra weight, it's going to have a soft engagement and compress slightly, but the more weight we add or the more pressure is added to it, it's going to compress and get stiffer, and it can compress up to 80%. Now although it's going to compress up that much, it's not going to expand out to the side.Our helper springs are designed to replace our factory jounce stops.

So they're going to be independent from each other on side to side. Now that's going to help out a lot whenever we have an off center load, because it's going to compensate for that and they're each going to compress the appropriate amount. But at the same time, if we take an invasive maneuver and turn sharply, this is going to help keep it more stable, and we're going to lose some of that body roll and just kind of floaty feeling when we're going down the road.The springs themselves are going to be made out of microcellular urethane, so they're going to withstand most automotive chemicals like oil, gas, as well as road salt, and UV rays. Our springs are going to have a 1500 pound weight capacity, but keep in mind that these are not designed to increase the pay load of your vehicle, they're just there to help support the weight. So now that we've seen what they look like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get them installed.To begin the installation, you want to lift up the motor home so that there's going to be a gap in between the top of the leaf spring back here and the frame.

We'll find our factory jounce stop. It's going to be right above the leaf spring, and we're going to remove this. In order to remove it, we're going to need to twist the jounce stop to break it lose. On the inside of the frame, the nut is going to be in the very center right where our jounce stop is. So we can take a 9/16" wrench and we're just going to feed it in the frame, and then we'll turn the jounce stop while we're holding the nut.

Then we'll turn the jounce stop that's going to unscrew it from the nut. You want to unscrew it until it completely comes off. Then you reach up into the frame, and we're going to pull off a flat washer and a nut.So now we can grab our new spring, and the hardware we're going to be using, it's going to have a new flat washer and a new nut. So we'll remove those two, and we're going to slide the stud into the hole that we removed our factory jounce stop, and then secure it on top of the frame using the washer and nut. We'll take our jounce stop, and I'm going to push it all the way up into the frame and then reach in, put the washer in place, and then I'm going to hold the nut with my hand while I turn the jounce stop just to get it started. It is a tight fit. You'll have just enough room to get your hand in there to start the nut onto the stud.And once it's started, we'll grab a 13 millimeter wrench, and we're going to hold the nut while we spin the jounce stop to tighten it up. I'm just going to turn this and tighten it up so it sits all the way against the bottom of the frame. Should be able to just wedge your wrench in there, so it'll hit the side of the frame so we can continue to tighten it up. Once you have it nice and secure, we can pull the wrench off and we're going to repeat that same process on the other side. That'll finish up your look at the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Spring for the front axle, part number SSF-280-47 on our 2006 Fleetwood Bounder Motor Home.

On a 2015 Ram 1500. The Sumo springs work great. I went from a loaded ride height of 35 inches to 36 1/4 inches. But the real improvement is in the ride. No longer have the squishy rear end wobble that I used to have. Combined with my weight distributing hitch my ride height improves to 37 1/2 inches. Truck is level along with my travel trailer. When I'm not loaded I don't even notice that I did anything. Still rides like factory. My only complaint is in the installation. Eight nuts with washers per spring and there is no space at all on multiple nuts to fit a so met or even a ratcheting wrench. Took about an hour in my driveway. Other than this minor inconvenience, I have to say excellent product. 347254

I Received the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs shipment today and installed them on my 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 standard cab long bed truck. It took about 30 minutes to install the helpers springs. I watched the install video and read the installation instructions on the etrailer website while waiting for the shipment to arrive. They were easy to install without jacking up the truck, I laid flat on my back and slid under the truck on my garage floor and had no problems at all. After installation I hooked up my 20 ft travel trailer and went on a test drive. The helper springs made a big difference and gave a more solid stable performance with the truck while towing my 5,000 lb travel trailer. I've installed airbags on previous trucks and I believe for the money and easy installation this is the best option to improve towing performance. 725590

Purchased for a Tacoma 4 dr, long bed, with a fiberglass cap. I have the TSB/recall replacement spring pack. With this set up I had a decent ride, and better support over the OEM springs, but still see that the springs provided only minimal improvement when loading in the bed say 300-500#. If so loaded (camp gear, MC gear, 2-3 persons in cab) on moderate unpaved roads the OEM springs were at max load and had we too much frame sag. WITH the addition of the SumoSpring kit I found my truck when UNLOADED handled the same, but did have less body roll in the rear. At rest the frame rail is just touching the SumoSpring and wheel well to ground is 36 1/2" with P245 tires. When LOADED as detailed above, the rear feels firmer, has less body roll, and does not sag to excess like the OEM spring pack. Very satisfied with results. A very nice enhancement at a excellent price point. Kit is simple to install and should require no regular service/adjustment. 353831

This product does what it says it will do. One of the issues that I have is the difficulty to install this product. The 2020 Ram 1500 on the passengers side has a stabilizing bar that interferes installing all the nuts on the rear of the mounting plate spring. My truck supposedly has a 1 inch lift from the factory (Big Horn North Edition). I used the plastic extension as recommended in the installation instructions and even with the 1 inch factory lift, using the plastic spacer makes the spring rest on the rear axle with no load in the truck. I'd recommend to not install with the plastic spacer. The ride is much stiffer but I'm OK with that as when my trailer is attached the ride is as expected. 764466
