Reduced axle sag with Timbren suspension enhancement

Just like the rear of your vehicle will sag under the weight of a fully loaded bed, the front of your vehicle will sag when under the burden of heavy equipment such as a snowplow. In this case, the front axle is handling not only the weight of the equipment, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Install diagrams of Timbren hollow rubber springs

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above your front axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down so that the bottom of each spring touches the axle. Because each spring is making constant contact with the axle, it is always working to cushion and support your factory suspension.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's-side or passenger's-side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you're carrying off-center loads.

A snowplow mounted to the front of the truck will require extra suspension support for the front axle.

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System will help raise the front end of your vehicle when you're using heavy equipment like a snowplow. This ensures that your headlight beams will be pointed in the right direction and tire wear will be reduced. If the plow is off-center or has an extension, the springs will automatically compensate for this as well.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Front and Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren line of suspension enhancement systems. Any time that we add weight to our vehicle, it's going to put a lot of strain and stress on the suspension, especially if we're towing a heavy camper, trailer, or we have a heavy load in the back.Tends to have the back end squat down, which again, it's going to put that strain and stress on the rear suspension because not only are we asking it to hold up the weight of the vehicle, but everything else that we add on to it. Which that can arise a lot of different issues. The front end is going to be getting pulled off, which will misalign our headlights, and our tires won't have as much contact, so our steering and braking is going to be diminished. But tat;s where timbrens are going to come into play. They're going to provide us that extra support so that when we do have those heavy loads, the back end doesn't sag down quite as much, and it's not putting so much stress on the back end. By doing that, the front end's not going to rise up, which means our headlights will be in line and our tires will have the correct amount of contact and pressure, so our braking and steering isn't affected.

And they're going to do that all while making our ride more comfortable with that extra load. Our timbrens are going to provide us the support we need by replacing our factory jump stops and mounting in between the frame and the axle. Now, yours may look different, so you want to double check inaudible 00:01:20 fit guide for your specific application. Now, each one of our timbrens is going to feature a steel bracket. They're all going to have black, powder coat finish on them to resist that rust and corrosion or any other kind of chemicals that may be on the road. They're going to have a hollow, rubber ayon 00:01:36 spring that's going to take a lot of that pressure and strain off of the rear suspension.Whenever we do load our vehicle down, the space between our frame and our axle is going to get smaller. That's where our spring is going to make contact with the axle, and it's going to start compressing.

Now, they are progressively rated, so if we have a small load or a light load, it's going to have a little soft engagement. But the further it gets compressed, the harder and stiffer it becomes, giving us the support we need with those heavy loads. And since they are rubber, they're going to have a lot of give to them, which means they're going to give us the support we need. But at the same time, they're going to give us some more cushion and absorb some of the road shock as we drive. And since the rear ones here aren't in constant contact with our aXle, it is going to provide us the same ride quality when it's unloaded. Our timbrens are going to work independently from each other from side to side. That way, if we have an off center load, it will help compensate for that, but at the same time, if we take an evasive maneuver or a really sharp turn, this is going to help reduce that body roll and some of that sway feeling that we get going on when we have a lot of added weight. Our timbrens for the rear are going to be a good enhancement for any time you're going to be adding weight to the back of your vehicle, whether it be a heavy trailer, a large load in the back or any other situation where you're adding a lot of weight to the back of your vehicle. Now, timbrens on the front are going to be a little bit different.

They're going to provide us that load-leveling support and make sure the front end doesn't get pushed down too far. However, these typically are going to be in contact all the time, which means it's going to give us that support and help reduce on that body roll all the time, all while absorbing that road shock, giving us a smoother ride. Now, some situations where you'd want that extra support on the front of the vehicle to keep it from getting pushed down too much would be if you have a snow plow or winch, if you flat-tow your vehicle, or if you have any other heavy accessory on the front. This is going to make sure that front end stays where it should be, and again, making sure our tires, braking and steering acts how they should. When comparing the timbrens to other suspension enhancement options like airbags, these are going to be a lot easier to install because we're not going to have to worry about running lines, maintaining air pressure, putting in switches or compressors or any of that. Once these are installed, these are going to be completely maintenance free. However, airbags are going to provide us with a lot more adjustability, whereas our timbrens are not going to have that. That'll finish up your look at the timbrens suspension enhancement systems..

I can’t believe how effective these are on my F53 Ford based motorhome, the before and after is night and day. I would not want to be riding down the road without it. 551279

I installed the front and rear Timbrens on my 2017 Georgetown GT5 class A. The installation was pretty easy, except for the tight areas getting the wrenches on the bolts. The front passenger side used the original bolt to install on my frame. Installation took about two hours to complete the front and back. It would be quicker if you use power tools, but I wasn't in any hurry. I've driven on two trips now with them, and they made a noticeable improvement on the rocking sideways back and forth. The motor home seems a lot more settled now with wind and traffic. 563687

I would have given 5 stars, but it is difficult to get a socket on the frame/ to bracket mounting bolt. I would suggest a cutout/ scallop on the mounting bracket to facilitate installation. Now for the road test. 683011

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Working great. I had read reviews about them being too stiff whem you aren't pulling a trailer, but it seems like they softened up a bit after first putting them on. I felt a few hard jolts going over speed bumps and such the first few days, but now I don't notice them at all when I don't have a trailer attached. They are still improving the ride with a heavy trailer. I'd give 5 stars but my mechanic neighbor had to help me install them because there was something wrong with the bolts that came in the package. It was a year ago and I can't remember the details. Without him I think I could have returned them and gotten a fix and installed them by myself. It's a very simple install when all the parts are in good shape. 549083

got the product when stated , went on simple enough but used google to really see how things went together. Timbren doesn't give very good instructions with their product wish they would put diagram so as to be able to see how brackets go, but happy so far haven't put load on the truck yet that's coming up with a trip in august with my 30ft camper and truck loaded for trip guess will come back and let you know how the product works after the trip , but etrailer delivered when they said they would thanks will keep you in mind for future purchases. 544811

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I first put the Timbrens on the rear to help stop bouncing and porpoising on highways and bridge ends when towing. The rears have a gap and do not touch the springs until the truck is loaded, working great and keeping a smooth unloaded ride. The front Timbrens fit snugly and touch all the time. The ride is firm and a bit harsh with my unloaded truck having a snow plow spring option. When my trailer 30 ft trailer is hooked up, the front of the truck is slightly lighter. Towing with the Timbrens is nice and the bounce and rebound porpoising is very controlled. I would like the front Timbrens to be a little softer when the truck is unloaded, but I think these units are a nice add-on for better control, safety, and preventing damages. I had the fronts installed at the shop when rotating tires and a front end alignment. The rears installed easily. 691475

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Ordered these (6,000 lb Kit) to cure getting too nose high when towing after installing a Bilstein 5100 Level Kit on my 2016 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 (front struts set on max 2.10" setting sitting nearly perfectly level). Tow a 29' overall length travel trailer (~5,500 lbs) and for work we use a 20'x8' enclosed trailer (~9,000 lbs when loaded). Use a WD hitch, but still get the nose up when pulling both. Install was easy. Read through the instructions and watched a video before they came in. Crawled underneath and installed in about 30 minutes after I received them. Didn't remove the spare or the heat shield like the video I watched showed. A lift would have made it easier of course, but can be done in the driveway if you like doing stuff yourself. Used the included spacer and have about a 1" gap, which falls in the advised .5" to 1.5" range from the instructions. I haven't gotten to use them with the work trailer, but I have pulled the travel trailer and they do exactly as advertised, cures the sag, and nose doesn't go up at all. May be slight nose up with the work trailer, but I wouldn't believe it will be like before. Driving while hooked up feels smoother, too, with less body roll/lean in turns. So, overall satisfied with the purchase. The only reason this is getting 4 stars is that, like others have stated, the parts that were painted left a lot to be desired. Very sloppy with some areas that were already flaking off and one part had a spot that was completely missed by paint. The piece that goes underneath the axle to secure the contact plate is not even painted, it's just raw metal. So, I'm curious about what that will look like after one salty winter here in MO. I may find some time before the winter hits and take everything off and do some painting myself, but for $215 you'd kind of think that wouldn't be something to worry about doing with a brand new part. 543563

After 1 year, I’m still very satisfied. Have towed many times with them and the truck stays right at level. This will be something I order for every truck I get in the future. Improves towing without the cost of airbags. I didn’t have to wait more than a few weeks for the rust to appear, though. Had to take everything off and apply a couple coats with some industrial grade Rust-o-leum paint and have been doing good so far. Frustrating to have to do that, but at least I know to do it every time in the future.

Product was easy to install, 1/2 hr taking my time. Used a open end wrench and floor jack. My 2018 F350 Super Duty Super Cab 4wd no longer plunges over bumps, it has lost all its rear end sway on turning, carries my load much smoother ( loaded all the time ). Even with the load I always carry, the vehicle sits 1” higher in the rear. Prior to the install I was constantly hitting the rubber stops on my factory overload springs. 520123

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I installed these on my 2012 Ford F250 because I have two friends who have them on their trucks and they pull a travel trailer and a fifth wheel camper. I was impressed with the difference it made compared to my truck and camper Parked next to theirs'. I am mechanic and I see no reason why anyone would have trouble installing these them selves. Clean off the Nut and end of bolts before trying to loosen. Spray some WD-40 on the threads. Put on some gloves and use a 15mm wrench to loosen factory nut. Be sure to hold up on the factory bump stop because it has a line up pin that keeps it from turning as you loosen the nut. The driver side is a little more aggravating to get to because of wiring harness but there's plenty of room to use a wrench first then a 3/8" drive rachet and short extension with a good 6point 15mm standard depth socket will speed up removal. Then installing the new parts is a breeze. Just follow directions or etrailer videos on YouTube. Took longer to remove factory bump stomps than to install new ones. Maybe 45 mins total on original ones maybe. Then after preassembly of new ones, it took maybe 20 mins to install completely. Give yourself 1:30 hrs of time and enjoy your truck not sagging around town when loaded. 654107

I drive a F350 Super Duty, 2016, Crew cab, short bed. I pull a 38 FT, 16,500 GVWR goose neck 3 horse with living quarters. I was going to put in air bags as I was sick of slamming into my bump stops and my headlights aiming to the sky; oddly the trailer towed great except for those two items. I had thought about the Timbren's but was hesitant. After my trailer guys at Triple C in Watervliet, MI; great guys, told me they had stopped putting in air bags, but now suggested the Timbren enhancement system, I thought I would try it. GREAT PRODUCT; cheaper than airbags, easier to install, no maintenance and works great. I put them and immediately drove the horses from Chicago to West Palm with no problems. Truck is almost perfectly level now. I did not have one of the shuddering slamming events I typically get 3 of in Indiana alone. I would strongly recommend. Also; he service was great. The online ordering would have gotten it to me late, but I called and LaceyG was a huge help in getting it with that days shipments. She was also a big help on finalizing my decision. 591937

I had trouble with my browser called and spoke with Karen. She took my order. Then turns out I had two orders of the same thing. Karen took the time to call my home and ask is I really wanted two of the same thing. Great company, great customer service. How many companies in today's world would have made the extra effort. This is the second pair of Timbren I have bought. I love them. Used them on a 2010 Silverado, and now on a 2014 Express Van. Not only help the 'bottoming out' effect, but great for stability during towing and when fully loaded. 146117

Comments

After a year I still like them for heavy loads. I have found the bottoming out when hitting a bump with no load painful and uncomfortable. I actually cut two coil off them to allow the normal suspension to work when having no load. They still work for heavy loads. They are not the panacea for suspensions, but they definitely work when you have a heavy load.

Easy intallation, I also did the fronts at the same time. I have Timbrens on my one ton dually front and rear for over six years and they are much better than air bags although air bags do have their place in certain situtations, I've had air bags and they are a hassle to air up and down w/o an on board compreesor. I'll stick with the Timbrens install them and forget them. 120296

Comments

I have traded this dually for a 2015 dually and put Timbrens on the 2015 rear axle and Timbrens on the front and rear axles of the wifes half ton pick up just to improve the ride, I like a firm suspension. The factory bump stops on the front 2015 axle were rivreted on so thats why Timbrens were not used on it.

Unfortunately it was a number of weeks after I installed them that I actually hauled our gooseneck horse trailer. My mistake for not immediately testing them after installation. I had the the Ride Rite system from Firestone on my previous Ford and was very pleased with that product. After reading reviews for the Timbrens I thought I could save some money by going that route. Big mistake on my part, I would never recommend this product instead I would steer anyone needing trailering suspension parts to buy the Ride Rite system. When finances allow I will be removing the Timbrens, throwing them in a dumpster and purchasing the air bag system. Overall I have been very pleased with Etrailer and will order from them in the future. 518512

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Product seems to be high quality and the delivery was fairly quick. Extremely easy for me and my 12 year old son to complete in less than a half hour. Just put them on today so won't know how well they'll work until I put a load on the truck. I had the Timbren's on my 1997 Ford F-250 and they worked great so I'm hoping for the same results. 391227

So far they have been great we towed our 5th wheel to the east coast from California and they were great.

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

This product has performed exactly as advertised. We pull a fifth wheel rv with a hitch weight of 2300 pounds. After adding the Timbren Rear Suspension System to our Ford F-250, our truck sits perfectly level when hooked up. We feel that it was a much more cost effective way to keep our truck level as opposed to installing an air bag system. 344559

Comments

I still like the suspension product that I purchased from Timbren. It helps keep my vehicle level when we tow our 12,500 lbs fifth wheel RV with a hitch weight of about 2400 lbs, although when I purchased the product we were towing a lighter model. I have been thinking about ordering the heavier duty model you offer to help off set the increase in weight of our new trailer.

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I recently had an air bag fail on my truck while loaded with our Lance 855 on the truck and pulling a small utv trailer. The shop that helped me had a set of Timbren bump stops. We modified my air bag mount to gain a little more height, installed bump stop and was on my way. My rig actually rode better than it did with the air bags, so I ordered these heavier duty Timbrens and installed them. Quick and easy, and after install I loaded the camper on my truck and it only settled 1". Perfect ! I can already tell these are going to be great. Thanks again to etrailer for fast shipping and great price ! 175160

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I purchased the TDF15004B and TDR1500DQ products for my 2016 Ram 1500. Towing is way better and overall handling is improved. These products installed just fine. The directions were clear and concise. Etrailer has a helpful video series as well. Thanks to the staff at Etrailer for the great customer service and follow-up. Jj. 288500

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Received my rear suspension enhancement kit yesterday for my 2013 F-150. It was delivered 3 days from order by etrailer and was a breeze to install. I have not towed my trailer yet but I believe it will be just what I was looking for. 243483

Fairly simple to install. Did not have to Jack up my 18 f150, but would have probably made it easier. Install was pretty straight forward bolt on operation. I Haven't pulled my 28 ft camper yet. The bump stops I removed were 1/3 the size of the new ones. They should work real well. No noticeable ride difference with no load. Thanks. 641299

Haven't towed the 5th wheel trailer yet, but installation was fairly easy. So far, the ride unloaded hasn't changed, but I'm sure it will be great with the trailer. These are serious parts and appear to high quality. 124219

After having towed our fifth wheel trailer over 15,000 miles with the Timbrens, I can say they are great. The truck stays level and the trailer tows great. This is much better than having to mess with air bags.

Came just as advertised. Waiting to install. As an aside: You might want to make sure all box sides are securely taped as the USPO delivered the box with the un-taped side completely pulled away from the box and the suspension parts were pushing out of the box. 504944

Solid Product! Yeah it's a stiffer ride when loaded But that's the sacrifice made to have more control of the haul while underway. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay more level with a heavy boat/trailer setup as in my case. Not that install is hard but removal of spare tire before install, may have helped with space if you don't have a lift. 511931

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Comparing Timbren and SumoSprings for a 2018 Ace 30.2 Motorhome
  • Yes, the front # TFFF53B Timbren suspension enhancement are similar to the front # SSF-170-40-2 SumoSprings for your 2018 Thor ACE 30.2 Motorhome. Timbren is a little more well-known but we have received feedback from our customers that the SumoSprings offer better ride quality as they aren't as stiff. If you are comparing the rear Timbren # TFRF53A with the rear SuperSprings # SSA41 for the leaf springs then they are comparable when it comes to performance but they work slightly...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for Smoother Ride on 2018 Thor ACE 30.3 Motorhome
  • For your Thor ACE 30.3 Motor coach, I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension # TFRF53A and front suspension # TFFF53B. This will help with the stability of your coach and act as a shock absorber as well. They help reduce body roll and compensates for off center loads as each spring works independently. At this time, these are the only confirmed fit parts for your 2018 Thor ACE 30.3 motorhome on Ford F53 Chassis.

  • SumoSprings to Fit a 2005 Thor Hurricane Built on a Ford F-53 Chassis
  • For maximum support in the rear I recommend SumoSprings # SSR-187-54-1. They're 5,400 pound capacity springs for motorhomes on a Ford F-53 chassis like your Thor Hurricane with a GVWR between 20,000 and 26,000 pounds. We have some SumoSpring kits for the front of your Thor but none are designed to handle its GVWR. Instead you can use the Timbrens # TFFF53B.

  • Your 2017 Winnebago Sightseer 36Z is built on the very popular Ford F-53 chassis and has a GVWR of 22,000 lbs. For your motorhome the biggest improvement you'll make in handling will be first with a rear sway bar, followed by a front sway bar, then a steering stabilizer, and finally suspension enhancement. If I were you in your shoes I'd would prioritize the things I mentioned first either by doing the sway bars and stabilizer first, or by starting with the rear bar and then work down the...

  • Comparing Front Timbren and SumoSprings for a 2002 Ford F-53 Chassis
  • When comparing the ride quality between the Timbren # TFFF53B and SumoSpring # SSF-172-40-2 I recommend going with the SumoSprings. Although Timbren is a very solid product, the SumoSprings have been proven to have more of a forgiving support over the Timbrens. This is supported by great reviews and feedback from customers. For your specific application the SumoSprings are installed so that half of each spring is on the top and the other half is on the bottom so when contact is made...

  • The Sumo Springs for the 2014 Ford F-53 chassis only fit the 16K to 22K chassis models but I do have an excellent option for you. Since your chassis is rated for 24K you can use Air Lift air bags, # AL88344, for the rear and # TFFF53B for the front. The front item is not an air bag system, it is a replacement bump stop. There are no air bags for the 24K chassis. The benefit of air bags over fixed rubber springs is that you can adjust the air bags by adding or removing air for the best...
