Reduced axle sag with Timbren suspension enhancement

Just like the rear of your vehicle will sag under the weight of a fully loaded bed, the front of your vehicle will sag when under the burden of heavy equipment such as a snowplow. In this case, the front axle is handling not only the weight of the equipment, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Install diagrams of Timbren hollow rubber springs

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above your front axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down so that the bottom of each spring touches the axle. Because each spring is making constant contact with the axle, it is always working to cushion and support your factory suspension.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's-side or passenger's-side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you're carrying off-center loads.

A snowplow mounted to the front of the truck will require extra suspension support for the front axle.

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System will help raise the front end of your vehicle when you're using heavy equipment like a snowplow. This ensures that your headlight beams will be pointed in the right direction and tire wear will be reduced. If the plow is off-center or has an extension, the springs will automatically compensate for this as well.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Front and Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren line of suspension enhancement systems. Any time that we add weight to our vehicle, it's going to put a lot of strain and stress on the suspension, especially if we're towing a heavy camper, trailer, or we have a heavy load in the back.Tends to have the back end squat down, which again, it's going to put that strain and stress on the rear suspension because not only are we asking it to hold up the weight of the vehicle, but everything else that we add on to it. Which that can arise a lot of different issues. The front end is going to be getting pulled off, which will misalign our headlights, and our tires won't have as much contact, so our steering and braking is going to be diminished. But tat;s where timbrens are going to come into play. They're going to provide us that extra support so that when we do have those heavy loads, the back end doesn't sag down quite as much, and it's not putting so much stress on the back end. By doing that, the front end's not going to rise up, which means our headlights will be in line and our tires will have the correct amount of contact and pressure, so our braking and steering isn't affected.

And they're going to do that all while making our ride more comfortable with that extra load. Our timbrens are going to provide us the support we need by replacing our factory jump stops and mounting in between the frame and the axle. Now, yours may look different, so you want to double check inaudible 00:01:20 fit guide for your specific application. Now, each one of our timbrens is going to feature a steel bracket. They're all going to have black, powder coat finish on them to resist that rust and corrosion or any other kind of chemicals that may be on the road. They're going to have a hollow, rubber ayon 00:01:36 spring that's going to take a lot of that pressure and strain off of the rear suspension.Whenever we do load our vehicle down, the space between our frame and our axle is going to get smaller. That's where our spring is going to make contact with the axle, and it's going to start compressing.

Now, they are progressively rated, so if we have a small load or a light load, it's going to have a little soft engagement. But the further it gets compressed, the harder and stiffer it becomes, giving us the support we need with those heavy loads. And since they are rubber, they're going to have a lot of give to them, which means they're going to give us the support we need. But at the same time, they're going to give us some more cushion and absorb some of the road shock as we drive. And since the rear ones here aren't in constant contact with our aXle, it is going to provide us the same ride quality when it's unloaded. Our timbrens are going to work independently from each other from side to side. That way, if we have an off center load, it will help compensate for that, but at the same time, if we take an evasive maneuver or a really sharp turn, this is going to help reduce that body roll and some of that sway feeling that we get going on when we have a lot of added weight. Our timbrens for the rear are going to be a good enhancement for any time you're going to be adding weight to the back of your vehicle, whether it be a heavy trailer, a large load in the back or any other situation where you're adding a lot of weight to the back of your vehicle. Now, timbrens on the front are going to be a little bit different.

They're going to provide us that load-leveling support and make sure the front end doesn't get pushed down too far. However, these typically are going to be in contact all the time, which means it's going to give us that support and help reduce on that body roll all the time, all while absorbing that road shock, giving us a smoother ride. Now, some situations where you'd want that extra support on the front of the vehicle to keep it from getting pushed down too much would be if you have a snow plow or winch, if you flat-tow your vehicle, or if you have any other heavy accessory on the front. This is going to make sure that front end stays where it should be, and again, making sure our tires, braking and steering acts how they should. When comparing the timbrens to other suspension enhancement options like airbags, these are going to be a lot easier to install because we're not going to have to worry about running lines, maintaining air pressure, putting in switches or compressors or any of that. Once these are installed, these are going to be completely maintenance free. However, airbags are going to provide us with a lot more adjustability, whereas our timbrens are not going to have that. That'll finish up your look at the timbrens suspension enhancement systems..

The Timbren Front Suspension has performed as advertised, was very easy to install and has improved my truck’s overall ride quality. I would totally purchase again and will eventually get them for the rear. Only complaint was I received two right side brackets in the kit and had to call e-trailer for a left side bracket. They referred me to Timbren. In my opinion, a better customer service approach would have been to call them for me. Since it’s there vendor. Timbren did send me the correct part - begrudgingly though. 514546

Received my Timbrens very quickly, very well packaged. Installed them is less than 30 minutes. Have yet to hook my rv to the truck, but can see these are going to be really helpful. About 1" to my axle where my OEM bump stops were a good 7" As always etrailer rocks!! Look forward to dealing with these folks when the need arises again. 484817

These do really well for supporting a full load or trailer attached. But if unloaded the will create whiplash if you go over a speed bump or anything that creates the axle to spring up and hit them. 611025

Night and day difference while towing. This is one of the best additions to my truck. My camper is around 7k pounds. My back end doesn't sag as much and doesn't bounce as ki when towing. Not noticeable when unloaded. I recommend this to everyone e who tows. 613728

I ordered timbrens for the front and rear of my chevy 2500. I have a 2000 lb truck camper and I wanted something to help carry the load a little better. I had no idea that my front bump stops had worn away to almost nothing until I installed these. They have worn well and performed well so far. 628835

Ordered these from Etrailer.com and got them in three days. Super easy to install on Ram 3500. Didn't have to jack up truck. Assembled is 6.5" on Ram 3500, I had 7" to play with so plenty of room. Haven't added a load yet as 5th wheel is on order. Looking forward to it. 609612

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I finally had a chance to try these out and they work great. Granted, I do have what they market an ultra-light travel trailer, but for my configuration of my 2007 Dodge Durango (4.7L), this trailer totals out about 75% of my towing capacity. That being said, this vehicle has an abnormally smooth ride for it's size. Because of this, the weight at the hitch creates a slight sag in the rear when weighted over 400 lbs. It also created some suspension characteristics I didn't like, like the slow bounce over undulations. I was advised my shocks were in perfect condition and utilizing stiffer shocks would not prevent the sag and would make the overall ride too tight for me. This was the reason for looking into this option. Installation was as simple as it gets (pull off the old and put on the new). The only tools (if you want to call it that) are possibly a couple of 2x4 blocks (of course you're going to need a jack to jack up your vehicle). 4 inches total was needed to properly seat them. It took a total of 30 minutes, but 20 minutes was me pulling out my jack and jack stands, finding blocks, and taking my sweet time. My Durango rode as level as expected after installation. Photos would not show anything noticeable without actually measuring it (about 450 lbs on the tongue with my particular trailer - see photos). I also didn't have to adjust my mirrors, which was inherent in the slight sag I had before. It took bumps well and the ride was not as bouncy as before, more firm and controlled. The ride without the trailer is noticeably firmer, and with little bumps you can tell they're making contact. Mostly noticeable over speed bumps where my Durango would normally float over them due to the long travel. My Durango inherently didn't ride like a truck or large SUV, more like a sedan. Now, it "sorta" rides more like a truck. Not a deal breaker, but if you like your truck to keep riding smooth, these might not be for you. Pros: Works as advertised. Easy installation. Keeps your vehicle level. Firmer more controlled ride. Removed annoying bounces. Great quality build. Cons: With the clearance from your axel to your bump stop now ~1.5 inches, bumps will be felt if making contact (-1 star for me, but if this is not an issue for your application, you should add the star back). Overall, I would highly recommend this product, even for a smaller SUV like my Dodge Durango. That being said, it won't have the same smooth ride with the long travel as before, but definitely worth it if you're towing with the same type of vehicle. 489147

Comments

After a year of use, the product continues to perform as expected. I have specifically put about 6-8 trips with this product and I have not had any issues. This included many miles on the highways and some trail driving. The product continues to perform well, assisting on absorbing undulations and helps keep the vehicle stable and level. I did not mention this before, but its important to know that this product is only a supplement to an already stable suspension and correctly-weighted setup. If properly used, this product will enhance your driving experience, but it will not fix any overweight or setup issues. I still highly recommend this product.

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

This product seems as described in etrailer catalog and by salesperson. Very easy to install, both sides and clean up 30 minutes (actual install time was about 15-20 minutes). My truck has 100 gal fuel cell and tool box that is pretty full, so I generally have an extra 1200 lbs in bed of truck full time. Looking at truck it sits level instead of rear sitting up a little, not a big deal except headlights aim a little higher and when pulling trailer with skid steer or mini, truck sags an amount that looks overloaded. After installed truck bed height looks close to an unloaded truck. With full fuel cell the truck rests on the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System, I was pleasantly pleased with the ride and look of the truck. The only minor difference is when truck comes to complete stop, there is a slight "jiggle" in truck. Very minor but it is noticeable. I would definitely recommend and purchase again. I can't wait to see how system performs with loaded trailer hooked up. 594996

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

These "enhanced" bump-stops have definitely improved the ride quality of my 2013 Ram 1500 quad cab when pulling our 7500 lb. 29 foot travel trailer. The trailer probably has 500+ pounds of food, clothes, kids toys, etc inside as well. The truck bed probably has another 800'ish pounds of equipment in it that compresses the suspension before I even hook the trailer up. With the stock stops the rear suspension hardly moved. After adding the new stops, the rear suspension had travel again and the steering felt less twitchy. Unloaded truck will hit the new stops only if I hit a pretty harsh bump but it's only noticeable if you're paying attention to it. With a loaded bed (no trailer) hitting the stops is more noticeable but you still need to hit a decent bump for them to touch. They are very easy to install. Take the time to read the instructions and watch the installation video before you pay someone $50-$75 for a 15-20 minute job. I would buy them again. 482362

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I bought Timbrens to install on my 2015 Silverado 2500HD truck, which I use to haul our 5th wheel. I had a set of airbags on my old GMC and they worked well, however, they were a concern when it came to maintenance. I saw a review and recommendation for Timbrens and thought they were a great alternative to having airbags installed. I read the instructions and can see no problems with installing them myself - thereby not only saving in the cost over the airbags, but also not having to pay anyone to install the Timbrens. Everything I have read about them makes me feel very good. I don't see the truck lowering with the 5th wheel attached, but having the Timbrens installed will take away any worries with rough roads. 613453

Installed on my 2007 Ram 3500 because I wanted basic leveling & stability under the load of my 5th wheel. I didn't want a complicated air bag system. Summer trips in the mountains of MT & the Pacific NW. 3 months of snowbirding throughout southern AZ this winter. Very satisfied, so I just swapped them onto my new 2018 Ram 3500. I didn't let them go with my trade-in. Just what I need, no effect when empty - engaged when I need them. 628560

Our 2015 Pilot 4WD was rated to tow up to 4500 LBS. We bought a 3000 lb.trailer that had a tongue weight of around 375lbs. The heavy tongue weight caused the back end of the Pilot to sag and bounce when towing. After having the Timbren Enhancement Sys. THROD2 installed there is NO sag and NO bounce when towing! The product has worked as described on the website. They have been excellent as a suspension enhancement. My Durango used to squat 3 and one half inches before installation of the Timbren support. Now when hooking up my boat my Durango goes down 2 inches and stops. I have great support and better control of my vehicle especially when fully loaded on a family vacation. Great product.

I have been driving empty and unhooked without any notice to ride difference unless I hit a bad pothole. I would recommend them to anyone looking into option of airbags. 573990

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Have not tested to the fullest but instalation was not bad once I installed the first side on 2009 Honda Pilot. So far so good. Recomend watching few videos on instaling rear spring and shock absorbers. If equip with tow package, there is an aditional bolt on a stabilizing bar that connects to the arm that will require a 14 wrench and a hex for the tip. Muffler does get in the way to pull the spring but nothing a big push the arm cannot fix. Make sure you have hex tips for your wrench to install. 336553

Review from a similar Timbren Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I have been looking at this product for some time before I decided to order it.The tracking on your webpage was fantastic and the package was delivered on Friday afternoon but we were away.I installed these on Monday and was planning on taking some pics but halfway through the first half in the passengers side I got sick laying on the concrete floor.I finished and started on the drivers side and didn't know if I was going to be able to finish but I managed.Wife picked up the tools for me as I headed back to the house.I have a sore throat and the chills, sick as a dog but at least the Timbrens are installed, YaY. I'm 73 and walk with a cane and if I can do it anybody can do it. 341967

  • Will Timbren System # TGMFK35C Fit 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe With Torsion Bar Front Suspension
  • The Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System, part # TGMFK35C, will fit your 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD with torsion bar front suspension. The Timbren rubber springs will install in place of your factory bump stop. You will want to make sure that the suspension on your vehicle is in good working order before installing the Timbren kit. The Timbren kit is designed to work on vehicles with a snow plow. The rubber springs will raise the front of the end of the Tahoe when heavy equipment,...

  • Air Bag Helper Springs for a 1995 Chevy Suburban 1500 4x4
  • We have air bag help springs for the rear axle of your 1995 Chevy Suburban K1500 but there are no options for the front. But there are other options we can use for the front. Starting with the front you can use Timbren springs # TGMFK35C. These will be easier to install than air bags and require no maintenance. The front of the vehicle usually stays pretty constant in terms of ride height and the amount of weight at the front so the fixed Timbren springs are ideal. For the rear axle...

  • Recommended Front Hitch, Snow Plow and Front-Axle Suspension Jounce Spring Kit for 1994 K2500 4x4
  • For your 1994 Chevy K2500 4x4 the front-mount hitch I recommend is the no-drill Curt model # 31042 which fits so long as you do NOT have a 34-inch frame width. This hitch offers a 500-lb vertical load rating, plenty for a snow plow like the 82-inch K2 # K2AVAL8219 or one of the others shown on the linked page. With a heavy front-end plow load on the truck's suspension you might want to consider a suspension helper spring kit to help offset that load and reduce front sag. If your K2500...

  • What Suspension Enhancement Kit is Best for 2000 Cadillac Escalade if 24-Inch Rims Are Added
  • The particular Timbren Suspension kit you referenced, part # TGMFC1588H, is intended for a front axle application in the 2-wheel drive version of the 2000 Cadillac Escalade. If your Escalade is a 4 wheel drive model this kit will not fit. We do offer a similar front axle jounce spring kit that will fit your 4 wheel drive Escalade, part # TGMFK35C, but this would really only be necessary if you will be using a snow plow or other heavy front-mounted accessory. Please note that suspension...

  • Will Timbren Front Suspension Helper Springs Raise the Height at the Front of a 1998 Chevy Tahoe
  • Generally speaking, Timbren front axle suspension enhancement such as # TGMFK35C for your 1998 Tahoe will be engaged all the time. While this doesn't mean that the front will be lifted (if it is it would be a fraction of an inch based on where this kit installs) the front end will not sag as much, if at all, which can give the illusion that the front is a little higher.

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 1994 Chevy 3500 Truck
  • Was your truck built on a cab and chassis style frame? If so, you would need the # TGMFK35C for suspension enhancement. An easy way to determine is to measure the outside to outside dimension of your truck frame. If that distance is 34 you have a cab and chassis truck. There are only Timbrens available for this configuration. If you do not have a cab and chassis you would instead want the Air Lift kit part # AL57128 as it is the most similar to the product you mentioned. Or, the Timbren...
