An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

  • Best Suspension Enhancement for 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 for Squat When Towing
Thanks for the photo and the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK15S you mentioned is a good option for helping keep your 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 level, but the best option is something a little different, the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS4611. The reason why the RAS kit is the best is because it is an active system, which means it continually works to reinforce your Silverado's leaf spring suspension. The force normally put on your Chevy's...

  • What Stops Porpoising on Tow Vehicle that is Using Weight Distribution with Trailer
Most of the time when a tow setup is porpoising with a weight distribution system all you have to do is add a bit more spring bar tension to minimize the porpoising. With an Equalizer system you would need to angle the spring bars down further to add the additional tension. Suspension enhancement like the Timbren part # TGMRCK15S would help but you should be able to solve the problem with the WD system.

  • Do You Recommend the Timbrens or Roadmaster Active Suspension for My 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500?
As for comparing the Timbrens # TGMRCK15S to the Roadmaster Active Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS54FR on your 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 (4x4), the answer really depends on how much you tow or need suspension support for your Chevy. The Timbrens will do a great job for semi-regular towing or support, but if you are a regular tower I recommend going with the Roadmaster Active Suspension # RAS4611. The reason is because the force put on your Chevy's springs when towing,...

  • Difference Between Timbren And SuperSprings Suspension Stabilizer For 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD
So the difference between the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRCK15S and SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit # SSA28 are the benefits they offer and what you are looking to get out of an enhancement system. The Timbrens # TGMRCK15S are jounce springs and how they work is simple but effective. When you have additional weight at the rear of your truck, like when towing, it will sag, causing the front of the truck to rise. This causes your front...

The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SS45FR which are a fit for a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will provide around a 1/4"-1/2" gap between the spring and contact point. These will have a much tighter fit than the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCK15S but since they are softer won't create any ride quality issues. If the vehicle has been lifted, you can use spacers like the Timbren 1" Spacer For Raised Frame Vehicles part # A25723-90AH00.

  • Recommended Towing Enhancements for 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500
There are two products that you can add to your vehicle and towing setup that will help improve the ride quality while towing: a weight distribution hitch and a suspension enhancement of some sort. I recommend starting with a weigh distribution hitch, and the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET should work for your 7500-lb GVWR trailer; you'll want to confirm that the tongue weight of your trailer falls between 800 and 1200-lbs (staying towards the middle of that range...

They simply replace your factory bump stops and require a simple bolt-in installation process. The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 LD is part # TGMRCK15S for extended or regular cab models and part # TGMRCK25S for crew cab models. The springs once installed should be anywhere from 1/2" - 1-1/2" from the contact point. If you are looking for something that will not impact your ride quality when you aren't towing, the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F2430 are the way to go. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System like the # TGMRCK15S is pretty stiff and has a tendency to impact ride quality when unloaded as you go over bumps in the road and the jounce-style springs make contact. The pin weight of a 5th wheel trailer is typically going to be much less than the 12,000 pounds springs # TGMRTT35S are rated for. So there is really no need for such a high capacity spring set. I recommend Timbren springs # TGMRCK15S rated for 3,600 pounds. This set should not interfere with the 5th wheel install kit because they mount to the bottom of the frame. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCK15S is a great option to help reduce sag while towing with a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 but they do have a tendency to ride rough as the material is very dense. I went out to the warehouse and pulled Timbren kit # TGMRCK15S to take some measurements for you. The overall height of the spring is 5-1/8 inches and the overall width is 4 inches (diameter). Timbren does make some 1 inch spacers, # A25723-90AH00, that you could use if more height is needed. This may result in the need for longer bolts that you would need to obtain locally. Use grad 5 or better bolts.
