Levels Your Load

Using a snowplow or a winch or installing a heavy grille guard on the front of your vehicle can put unneeded stress on your suspension system. This stress not only affects your brakes in a bad way, but your tires, headlight aim and handling suffer as well. If you need more front-end support, Air Lift 1000 has you covered.

The Air Lift 1000 kit will help to keep your vehicle at normal ride height. You can find the normal ride height of your vehicle by unloading it and measuring the distance between the bottom edge of your wheel well and the center of the hub. After you find and record this distance, you can regulate the amount of air that you send to your air springs to maintain normal ride height - even when you are carrying a heavy front load. Simply adjust the air pressure in your air bags according to the size of your load.

Adjustable Air Springs

Air Lift 1000 adjustable air springs provide 1,000 pounds of load-leveling capacity and support. They are made specifically to fit inside your front coil spring suspension for additional load assistance. You can inflate and deflate these tough, molded polyurethane helper springs as needed, ensuring the perfect amount of support for every load, every time. Easily level your vehicle front to rear, and if you run dual air lines to the air springs at installation, then you can inflate the springs independently of one another for side-to-side leveling.

Easy Installation

Air Lift 1000 is a breeze to install with standard tools and has an easy-to-follow instruction manual. This Air Lift system comes with manual inflation valves (1 for each spring). These are typically mounted on the bumper but can be installed anywhere on your vehicle in an easily accessible area. For even more convenience and control, you can add a compressor and gauge system (sold separately), which will let you monitor and automatically inflate your air springs.

Satisfaction Guarantee

The Air Lift company is positive that you will benefit from their air spring suspension system - so much so that they offer a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. Install and use Air Lift 1000 springs for 60 days, and if you are not satisfied at the end of this time, you can remove them from your vehicle and return them for a full product refund.

Video Transcript for Air Lift AirLift 1000 Air Helper Springs Review

Connor: Hey guys, how's it going Connor, today, here at etrailer.com. We're going to be taking a look at the Air Lift 1000 Air Helper Springs. In order to give you a better idea of the benefits that our airbags are going to offer here for our vehicle, what we're going to do is, we're going to take some measurements. We're going to measure the stock suspension unloaded from the ground to the center of the wheel well here. Then we're going to hook up a trailer. We have a medium to small boat trailer here, which would be perfect for this Grand Cherokee that we have in particular. We're going to couple the trailer and we're going to see how much the stock suspension sags.

What we're going to do is, we're going to take that measurement and then we're going to fill the air bags that we have installed to see how much that's going to raise back to our factory suspension and our stock ride height. What we're going to go ahead and do here is measure from the ground. Keep in mind your results may vary depending on what tow vehicle you have. We're just using this as reference, a guide to show you. While our vehicle is unloaded and we're detached from the trailer, we're going to measure from the ground to the top center inside of our wheel well, 34 and a half inches. We're going to go to the front, take the same measurement. In the front, we're about right at 33 inches, so we have about an inch and a half difference.

Now we're going to go ahead and couple the trailer and retake these same measurements. From the ground to the top center of the wheel well is going to be about 33 and a half inches. Therefore, we dropped about an inch in the rear. From the ground to the top center of the wheel well again in the front, is going to be about 33 and a half inches. Overall, we went down an inch in the rear and we came up about a half an inch in the front.Offhand, these measurements may not seem like a lot to you, but you'd be surprised at what sort of effects this could have on your vehicle while you're out driving around.

Number one, our suspension in the front is obviously raised a little bit, this is going to mean a couple of different things. Number one, we're not going to have nearly as much stopping power, because we don't have as much weight on the front axle. Now in modern vehicles, say, about 60% of our stopping power is going to be on the front axle. When we take weight off that front axle, we're going to decrease our stopping power. In addition to the reduced stopping power, the raised front end is going to do a couple other things. It's going to point our headlights more towards the sky, which is going to reduce our visibility of the road and finally, last but not least, we're going to have some tire wear issues because the camber of our front tires is not correct with the weight lifted off of them. Therefore, we're going to have to replace our tires sooner because they're going to wear unevenly.

By putting more of a strain on the rear of our vehicle, our existing suspension components are going to wear out faster. We could experience a harsher ride and overall the tow vehicle won't feel as stable than it would unloaded. Now we're going to go ahead and put some air in our air springs, retake our measurements so we can show you the difference. Now we have our airbags filled, we have our trailer re-coupled, let's go ahead and take our same measurements that we took earlier. From the ground to the top inside edge of the wheel well, it looks we're about 34 and a quarter, not quite to 34 and a half inches, so we're about a quarter inch away from our factory ride height here at the rear. Let's go up to the front of the vehicle. If you remember, our factory ride height here with the trailer attached and our stock suspension was at 33 inches at the front, and we are back at 33 inches. We've actually came back to the factory ride height here at the front of the vehicle.Since we're back at the factory ride height or very close to it now, we're not going to have to worry about some of the issues we mentioned earlier about the headlight aim, the tire wear issues, or the decreased suspension longevity. Now that we've given you a visual of some of the measurements in the factory ride height, we went ahead and decreased all the air in the airbags again to the minimum five PSI pressure, and now we're going to take the vehicle on our two test courses we have at etrailer, the slalom course and the speed bump course. We're going to try to show you a representation of the ride quality when we have a load present with the airbags inflated and a load present without the airbags inflated. What we're going to do is, we have a couple of coolers in our hatch area here, not a terrible amount of weight, but enough to know it's back there. We're just taking our vehicle out on our test course now. As we can tell, without the airbags inflated, we are a little bouncy going over these speed bumps, as you would expect though.Yeah, it does feel like the vehicle is shifting around just a tiny bit side to side. Our steering isn't quite as responsive as it normally is. Now we're going to do some invasive maneuvers on our slalom course. Keep in mind it is wet here, so we are going to keep our speeds rather low. Again, we have a couple coolers in the hatch area here with our airbags deflated. Again, we can notice just a slight to slide rocking, more of a body roll if you will, while we're making these sharp turns here. I'm going to turn around, go the other way.Again, nothing real, real drastic, but we do sort of notice it a little bit, or at least I can anyhow. Yeah, a little bit of body roll, side to side. Now we go ahead, we went ahead and inflated our air springs. We put around 20 to 30 PSI in there and now we're going to leave the gear and the coolers in the back hatch here. We're going to go ahead and take our vehicle through our test course again, starting with our speed bump course. The suspension definitely feels a little bit firmer, but I don't feel as much body roll as we had the first time around. There's not as much jolting side to side. The steering is a little bit more responsive. Again, not a drastic, huge difference, but a minimal difference that we can still notice. Now let's go ahead and head on over to the slalom course and see the improvements over there. Now we're at the slalom course here. We're going to make some invasive maneuvers at speed, try to remain consistent with the speed of our initial run.I am noticing the steering's being a little bit more responsive. The weight is also not shifting around as much side to side, therefore we don't have as much body roll. These results are going to be the same whether we have heavy cargo in the rear of our hatch here or we're towing a trailer. The biggest difference I would have to say is just the weight transfer from side to side isn't severe with our airbags installed and inflated, therefore we don't have as much body roll.I would say that is probably the biggest takeaway of these Air Lift Air Springs here. Now they're going to help us do two things. They're going to help us, one, if we're towing a heavy load, number two, they're going to help us if we're hauling a heavy load. However, the stock suspension isn't necessarily designed to max out the payload or to max out our trailer weight ratings every time it's on the road, so that's where our suspension enhancements come into place.Again, they're going to do an excellent job helping to stabilize the heavy load, so we don't have that uneven, that harsh ride quality we would if we we're maxing out the factory suspension. Although there aren't any other options for this vehicle, I actually prefer airbags because the main reason is they're adjustable. What this means is, we can adjust the pressure inside the airbags, so we get the perfect level of support and comfort for any given load we may have at a time. The Air Lift Air Helper Springs can be installed in one of two ways, we can install them as a single pass system, which essentially means that we're going to have one inflation port, which is going to inflate both airbags. Now this is going to be the most common setup and what I recommend using. However, there is another option as well, called a Dual Path System Install. Essentially this means we're going to have two inflation ports, one to each of the air bags, so we can adjust the air bags.We can adjust the PSI in each airbag's different, so we have different amount of PSI and that's essentially going to be good for trailers if they're heavier on one side or we have more cargo in one side of the vehicle than the other. Our Air Lift Air Helper Springs here are going to have a 1000 pound weight capacity. However, keep in mind this isn't going to increase either the payload or the towing capacity of our Jeep.In regards to the fill rating of our airbags, this can be anywhere from five PSI, which is the minimum to 30 PSI, which is a maximum. However, again, the major feature, the major draw of airbags is that you can adjust the pressure for any given load you may have. Just make sure it never falls below five PSI or above 30 PSI. We need to keep in mind that with our air lift airbags, we are going to require access to an external air compressor in order to inflate the airbags. Now, if you're only going to be using the airbags every so often, then we can probably just suffice with finding an external air compressor, like at a gas station. However, if you find yourself to be towing or hauling heavy loads frequently, it's definitely going to benefit you to consider an onboard air compressor, like this Air Lift Wireless Bluetooth Air Compressor that we have here. This is actually going to be an excellent option for this vehicle because we don't have to run any airlines or wires into the cab, and the compressor is sized appropriately for our air springs. Now that we've showed you some of the benefits and features of our air springs here, that's going to do it today for the look at our Air Lift 1000 Air Helper Springs.

I put these on the front of my truck, under normal (unloaded) driving conditions I have about 5 psi in them and they make truck feel solid, I really like having them on when I have my 5th wheel trailer attached to the truck, I run the air bags at about 10-15 psi, the truck feels so much better with these bags on the truck, I feel that the truck is in control not the trailer. Note: I have rear overload air bags on the truck as well.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Just installed my new set of air bags (AL60815 Air Lift AirLift 1000 Air Helper Springs for Coil Springs) on my 2008 Odyssey. I purchased this model as a replacement to the previous air bags (F4179 Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs) that I purchased from etrailer four years ago. I had to replace them because this winter one of the push on fittings broke off one of the air bags. I have been using those air bags for four years towing my 2200 lbs tent trailer. The only complaint I had was that sometimes air would seep out after towing for a few hours. I suspected it was from the push on fittings. That was the reason I choose this model as they have barb fittings and spring clamps. Very positive connections and tight fits. Installation was very easy as all the holes in the tables were already done from the last install. 1. Somethings to keep in mind, if your shocks are a few years old consider changing them at the same time. 2. Remember to support the table with a jack while removing and installing the retaining bolt for the table. Failure to do that will damage the threads on the bolt and rapidly decompress the spring. 3. When drilling the hole in the table don’t rush. Centering the hole so the valve on the air bag does not force against the edge is very important. Luckily there is a template in the instructions booklet. 4. Running the air line to the passenger side bag can be done through the center cross member. I mounted my valve inside the van to keep it clean and out of the way. Using the tee to connect both bags to a single valve will facilitate inflation and ensure they are both at the same pressure. I will be ordering another set of these air bags when I replace this Odyssey with a newer model in a few years. Kit is very complete. All the parts I needed and did not have to run to the auto parts store. Didn't use the heat shield because where I ran the line it is protected from the exhaust pipe.

Comments
Great so far. I had the opportunity to use them all last summer pulling my pop up. Never had an issue of leaking fittings. Very happy with the product. Will definitely purchase again when I trade in my current Odyssey for a newer one in a few years.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Installed on 15 Jetta tdi. I Removed wheel, then coil spring, (1 side at a time) folded bag like hot dog bun and installed into coil spring upside down (fitting facing down) cause it would have hit otherwise. Reinstalled, ran lines, mounted fill valve in bottom part of rear bumper and filled. It’s been a year and is still working perfectly.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Installed on my 2015 Honda Odyssey (installed for 1 year now) and they work wonderfully! Primary use-case was to help when fully loaded for a road trip including 4-5 bikes on the hitch rack. I used to clench my cheeks whenever I would see a slight dip in the road under these conditions because the stock suspension would just bounce off the bump stops and oscillate for a bit. I would also drag the bike tires when pulling out of parking lots because the rear sagged so much. With the airbags installed, rear ride height is much improved and LOVE hitting those dips in the road because they just get soaked up! It's amazing! Installation wasn't too bad, but I did get some squeaking for the first several months as the airbags do rub up against the springs. The only thing I still want to change is to add either a valve to isolate Right from Left or just plumb the two lines separately in order to increase roll stiffness. I don't feel like the on-board pumps would be necessary because even when I leave them fully inflated to 35 PSI, the ride is not uncomfortably stiff. Great product.

Everything arrived in a timely manner. I installed the product using the video. Installation was relatively easy. We'll see how the air lift system works over time, for now all seems well. Installed on a 2017 Grand Caravan

Did exactly what I hoped to lift the car to accept wider rear tires. Did not want to raise the rear end too high but rather level driving. Easy to install.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Needed to lift my wife's Toyota Sienna back to unloaded ride height. She often carries a load in the cargo compartment of her van, thus lowering the ride height. With this easy to install kit, we were able to lift the van 3/4 inch. For us, it made all the difference between her trailer hitch bottoming out on an incline or making clearance.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

This a great kit it comes complete with every thing needed for the installation except jack & jack stands, 1/2 inch wrench & pliers. Very easy to install at home in the driveway. Tip: put the bags out in the sun for about 30 minutes before rolling them up to install, softens them up, easier to roll up. Heat the plastic tubing ends just a little with a lighter, makes them slide onto the fittings easier. This is the second set for me. First was on 2014 Ram 1500, worked great pulling a 32 foot fifth wheel trailer for 93,000 miles. Traded it in for a 2020 Ram 1500 crew cab so I am installing another set on the new truck. The only thing better than the air bags, is the help & service provided by E-Trailer employees. Thanks, DVA

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

I ordered this a few nights ago in anticipation of weighing down my wife's 2018 Sienna with a Lolo rack (heavy bike rack that holds 6 bikes), a Thule topper, and 5 people and camping gear. I installed it myself with the help of my 12 year old son and a 2 ton floor jack. It took about an hour. I routed the tubing and used the T-joint to have them both inflate the same. I did not need the heat shield which is included but I was glad it was there just in case. The amount of tubing in the package is more than enough to route along a path that is plenty far from the muffler. When we started, the car was almost 30 inches from ground to top center rear wheel well. When I put the rack and bikes and 4 people in the Sienna, it sank almost an inch. When I installed the AirLift, it went up almost an inch, at 35 lbs. I don't mind the extra inch knowing we'll be loading it down, but I will take advantage of the central valve to let some air out when we finish the trip so it rides at its normal height. I suspect the Airlift will allow us to settle down to the normal driving height when the vehicle is fully loaded. Probably the most important thing to say is that this product is certainly something a person can install themselves if they have a few tools and a little bit of courage. Please PLEASE secure the car so it doesn't fall off the jack, for your sake. Mine didn't, and I don't want yours to. Your mechanic could install this in less than an hour.

Comments
We leave them aired up all the time, and the ride is just fine. I check the pressures when we start to load the van, and they have held air for over a year. I am really REALLY glad I bought these, they offer a lot of peace-of-mind and there has been NO downside.

The air lifts work great. They leveled my van as advertised. I would rate them a five if they would hold the air pressure. I have tried everything to stop them from leaking down but it seems it is an impossible task. I would not recommend them for towing long distances.

Comments
Yes, I did the air lines over sealing each joint and I have not had air deflation since. I am now very satisfied with this product. I have towed over 20,000 miles and have had no problem.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Hi everybody! I own 2001 Toyota Sienna. First of all I had to make couple holes to feed air hose from the rear bumper to the inside of the rear coil spring. I believe next generations Sienna has that hole you need. On top of that look for additional holes is the frame (it’s usually covered with rubber grommet). Installation process took me 2,5 hours. Did it in the driveway. It’s pain to get spring back in place but overall doable. Having a partner would cut tat time in half probably. Very happy with the product itself. It holds pressure and does amazing job supporting rear suspension. I used to pull over 4000 pound trailer with my 2001 Sienna and without these airbags I would have a huuge sag. Definitely recommend!

If you tow trailers or carry heavy loads in the bed of your truck or van, you can use Air Lift Helper Springs to keep your vehicle level and free from sagging. It does not affect the ride or steering negatively and is easy to adjust with a compressor, battery-operated inflator or hand pump.

Comments
I forget they are there! Its only when towing trailers or putting something heavy in the bed of the truck, I am reminded that its a very practical upgrade to the trucks suspension. When checking tire pressures I check the airsprings pressure. Pressure s are minimal.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

There are 6 in our family and we like to play on our vacations. Which means lots of people and stuff in and on our mini-van, and a bike rack with 5 bikes on the back (and one bike inside). Our old Toyota Sienna clearly sagged under the burden, so when we got a 2011 Sienna which has a lower bumper to begin with, I was nervous about how it would handle everything, and particularly with the bike rack out back if it might even scrape the ground at times (bottom of hills, speed bumps...). I purchased these to help the suspension. They installed relatively easily, and we took our first trip of about 450 miles to Cape Cod and all went well. We had minimal if any noticeable drop in the back of the van, even fully loaded with all six of us, a full rooftop carrier, 5 bikes on the back, and extra seating inside (van sits 8) folded down and that available space also packed. We have only had these for a few weeks and I am a bit of a perfectionist, so these may very well deserve an excellent mark. The only thing that is keeping me from that is that I have only had them for a little while, so if they keep performing as they have so far, I would grade them as excellent.

Comments
One year in and they are working very well. I did not test them terribly much this past year, but I have to say what we have done has all gone very well. I am very happy with this purchase and have no complaints.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

I originally bought the Air Lift 1000 to prevent my 2011 Pathfinder from sagging when I pull my 4,500lbs boat. So far so good, the sag is gone. Other benefits are a firmer ride and less roll on the turns. If I posted the pics correctly you can see I ran each bag independently and I was able to mount each Schrader Valve on my 7 pin wire harness. This is a very easy DIY project. I suggest taking off the wheels and placing the bags in the springs from outside the vehicle rather then from underneath.

Comments
Troy.. did you wire up your 7 pin connector yourself? Looking at doing my 2011 with the Nissan harness at the hitch end and the controller end.Thanks.. Ken

Comments
I did the 7 pin myself. It was just plug and play. Not hard at all. Im not 100 sure if all 7 pins work because my trailer only requires 5 pins amd so far it has worked flawlessly. Hope this helps.

So far so good. My 03 Jeep Wrangler TJ was sagging in the rear. Now it is level. Needed this for the extra load carrying capacity when using a motorcycle carrier to carry my Suzuki VanVan on the back of the Jeep. This nicely raised the hitch by 6 inches so I don't have to worry about dragging the carrier when encountering a dip. Shipping was prompt and fast. Could not be more pleased with the customer service from etrailer.

Comments
Air lift is still working great. Exactly what I needed to balance the load when I carry my motorcycle on the carrier behind my wrangler.

I want to thank you very much for the help on fitting the correct air lift bag for my mopar lifted wrangler. I spent countless hours searching the web unsuccessfully for the information you provided. The new listing you added on your site for fitment of these air bags will undoubtedly help many customers the same as it helped me. etrailer has been my go to site for many of the items needed for an offroad teardrop camper build I'm working on that is towed by the wrangler, and again you guys came through for me. There aren't many suppliers on the web that offer the assistance you have. I will continue to recommend etrailer to people I know and meet that want a supplier with excellent service to the customer. Thanks again!

This product did everything I hoped it would, no more bounce and sway while towing. I would recommend these air bags to anyone towing a trailer.

I was excited about this product and the installation was reasonably easy. The 1st summer (2019) they worked as advertised doing a good job of assisting with supporting the weight of my 5th wheel RV. But now this 2nd summer, a slow Leak must've developed as they don't hold air for more than 8 hours. I'll probably have to go in and check the fittings for leaks, but that is quite a process and one that I quite frankly don't have time for right now. So I would have to Say I'm disappointed in the product.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

I purchased AirLift helper springs for my Motorhome about a year ago. Installation was a bit tricky because they fit inside the coil springs but the difference they have made to my ride is impressive, no more jarring bumps from potholes and a much less stressful drive. I definitely recommend these air bag helper springs and thanks to eTrailer for their service.

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Easy install and bags do exactly what I wanted them to do. I pull a 6600lb travel trailer. Around 750 lb of tongue weight. I bought these for a little extra support to stop porpoising with dips in the roads. It does exactly that. I run 5lb without the trailer and 13-15 with. Very pleased

Review from a similar AirLift 1000 in Vehicle Suspension

Let me start by saying that this product was definitely the solution to my needs. Installation was simple and instruction accurate and easy to follow. I did have two small air leaks, one was a defective bag (a section of the vulcanized rubber seams did not quite seal completely), however I received a replacement a few days later. Excellent customer service from etrailer. The second leak was of my own doing and should be a lesson for all, once you connect the supplied hose to the bag or a fitting, do not disconnect and try to use that same section again. It will not seal properly, so cut off a 1/4 inch of the end then connect again. I even got fancy and added a pressure gauge to my system so I can see the current pressure without using a manual labor. My system holds pressure steadily to 10 psi for months at a time. It drastically improve my towing ability, I had the power but not the suspension, now I have both. The weight of the camper on the hitch of my 1998 Chevy Venture is barely noticeable. Worth every cent. I will be ordering another set in the near future for another vehicle.

Received my order promptly. customer service is top notch. I was excited to get the air springs installed. installation was a snap. I have not yet towed my camper with them as I just got them in the truck. I will have more input after I put them to use. I added some pictures to hopefully help any future buyers.
