Video Transcript for Tailgate Light Strip Installation

Today on this 2008 Ford F-150 we will be showing you how to install the Bully LED tailgate fire strip part number TLB-001. The tailgate fire strip installs at the back of the bed in between the tailgate and the bumper. The fire strip installs to that area using a double sided adhesive tape so we will need to clean that area out before we can install it. For video purposes I am actually going to remove the tailgate. That will make it a lot easier. With the tailgate removed we can test fit the fire strip. The kit comes preassembled with the two longer pieces together which for some vehicles will be enough. There is a 24 inch extension piece that can go directly in the middle for vehicles that are a little bit wider. Just give it a test fit to see if you are going to need that extension piece or not. 00:44

What we have decided for this F-150 is to leave out the middle section. The vehicle is wide enough for it, however if we do use the the middle 24 inch piece this adhesive piece will be pushed out onto this angled section that is coming out here on the back side of the bed. So to alleviate that we are going to leave the middle piece out. Next what you want to do is determine how high or low you want the fire strip to go up. I am going to rest it on the bottom lip of the bed. We want to next clean this area off really well and we also want to clean the holders for the adhesive strips on the back of the fire strip as well. We can apply our adhesive strips to the fire strip itself. Then before we adhere it to the vehicle we want to do a quick test run just to make sure that both units are functioning. 01:55

Just take the 4-pole end with my two pieces clipped together. Plug it in to the vehicles 4-pole and you can see both sections are working. Then from there we can set these up and figure out where to place them on the vehicle. You can just spread them out like so or you can run them close together and use the zip ties that are provided with the installation kit to tie this together. Once you have got that figured out you can remove the adhesive strips off the back of the fire strip and install it on the vehicle. Then you just want to go in your vehicle and first test the running lights to make sure they are working and then try your turn signals and lastly the brake lights. Once we have insured that all of the functions are working properly we want to again just test fit our fire strip on to the vehicle. Determine how you want to mount it. You can either space them apart or you can bring them together. Once you determine that you can remove the adhesive strips off of the fire strip and adhere it to the vehicle. What I want to do next is just take the connection point and feed it below. We are going to use the cable ties and tie that together. We also want to take our 4-pole and route it between the bed and the bumper and plug it into our 4-pole. From there we can take the remaining cable ties and tie up our extra wire at our 4-pole. I am going to put my tailgate back on and our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of the Bully LED tailgate fire strip part number TLB-001 on a 2008 Ford F-150.

Very disappointed in this product,it did not hold up well this past winter. The adhesives did not hold well, and yes the mounting surface was properly prepared. Also, the unit took on water and partially failed.I would strongly advise that no one purchased this product!!! 572451

A few of the LED's went out on the light bar after a month. I reached out to etrailer and they found it to be under their own warranty. The product was returned to the seller who in turn sent out a replacement the following day. The product looks great. Very easy installation. 512289

I bought these lights for my car carrier that i also bought at e-trailer. You have to use at least 2 of the 24" pieces to work right. They are bright enough for daylight and work very well. 22789

Junk - This product worked well in the warmer weather, however, when the snow came, the poorly constructed product dislodged and was crushed by the tailgate. I sent photos of the product, but never received a response. Very disappointed. 582361

I used the two 2 foot sections in order to have access to the spare tire lowering hole. No other brand of light provided this option. The installation was less than 10 min. Everything works as described. 574183

I ordered this product with high hopes. Installation was easy, but didn't function properly. After installation, the left side lit in the running light function, but didn't get brighter with the brakes or turn signal. There was a bad connection somewhere preventing this function. I know it was a bad connection because when I held the four pin connection together, it worked. But as soon as I let go, it didn't. I contacted customer service for a replacement. They offered a quick fix solution to try and correct this, but it failed. They agreed to send out a replacement with a prepaid shipping label to return the faulty product. I paid extra for express shipping on the initial order, so they agreed to rush delivery on the replacement. A week later I'm notified that they were out of stock and it would be even longer to receive my replacement. On the second light bar, there is a section within the right side that doesn't light at all. Very frustrating. I know that I have a left section from one and a right section from another that works, but if there are this many faults within the system, this is not a product I am comfortable using. I'm not happy with the quality of this product, at all. Outstanding customer service! But, unfortunately, I bought a poor quality item. I will continue to do business with etrailer.com, only because of how great their customer service really is. 324593

I installed the Light Bar on the carrier using ties. The trick was positioning it so it would be visible when up or flat. In the up position I didn't want to obscure the licence plate so on the outside edge was the best choice. It works well up or down. 11921

Light kit arrived as promised. Well packaged Instructions were clear and easy to read. Took longer to run the wires than to install on my Jeep Lights are very bright and clear to see. I have ordered from etrailer before and always had a good experience. Will order from them again when I need something for my Jeep or motor home 563100

Lot of work to install for heavy duty use and protection. Still looking for a dead block cover for the light pony tail when not in use to protect from road grime. Works as advertised. 129790

I got the 60" version (3 pieces). The little end caps for each section were loose straight out of the box, I ended up using some sealant to help try to seal them but they just didn't fit great and seemed like they would let water/grime in. Not even 2 years later, the right side doesn't work anymore - just like another reviewer wrote. I may try to pull it apart and see if it's something I can fix, but at the moment I just unplugged it because it looks stupid. 104021

Product arrived in 3 days. Easy to install. I changed the spacing of one sticky pad and was able to use all three strips across entire back of F150. Cool product. 49623

installed it just as shown worked great until it rained and then no more running light on right hand side. checked ever thing I could think of. The plastic that the LEDS are in is full of moisture suspect this is the problem. 44058

My truck (2003 F-150) has a C-channel in the area where this would be mounted. I mounted it there only to find that the tailgate hit it (but just barely - but enough to knock one of the adhesive mounts off) as it opened/closed. I probably could have just removed the little tabs on the product to gain an extra quarter inch which may have eliminated the interference, but instead I simply removed the entire mounting flange using my bandsaw and taped the light bar directly to the bumper below the tailgate using double sided mounting tape below. This provides a lower mounting point than in the C-channel so someone behind you but sitting higher up can see it better anyway. It looks great and is much brighter than many others I have seen. I originally bought the wrong product for my truck (I got the 60 inch version), but eTrailer customer service is awesome and I had no trouble returning it and getting the 48/60 in version. 32277

A real nice product, Cool lite bar!Be sure to mount it it to the top of your bumper.Top being the horizontal area of the bumper. Flush the back of the light strip with the back of the plastic cover on your bumper, towards the edge of the end of the bed. Disregard the 3" plastic tabs that come with the kit, they are useless in mounting this light kit on a 2006 Ford F-150. Don't use the adhesive strips at the width that they come in. Split them longways. This will allow you much more surface area coverage with the adhesive strips and I think you need this. Space the 2" strips about 2" apart and space the area between the ends of the strips about a 1/2". Stay about 2" away from the end of the light strips where the wiring comes out of the strips. The little wiring makes the adhesive pop up so use the 2" rule. These lights are COOL!! They look great oon my 2006 F-150! These guys ship REALLY FAST!!!! An AWESOME company to deal with!! KUDO'S to etrailer.com!! Todd, A satisfied customer!! 2575

  • The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56009 is a fit for your 2018 Ford F-150 but is used for the purpose of sending power from a motorhome to your tail lights when it is towed. That is not the correct fit for what you are seeking to accomplish. To give you the ability to utilize the LED strip at your tailgate I recommend the Reese # 74682 if you have the factory 7 way for a clean connection, but it sounds like the computer may still disable your sensors....

  • The only difference between a light strip and a light bar, like # RA960134, is that the strip is flexible and the bar is rigid. A bar would provide better protection to the lights so that is a benefit it has over a strip. A strip on the other hand being flexible allows it to be used with more applications. Since you do not like the strip type we do have several light bars you could use on your 2012 Toyota Tundra including # RA960134 (stop, tail, turn). There are additional options...
