Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Gateway XT's spoiler-clearing arced arms

The Thule Gateway XT is a sturdy, 2-bike trunk rack with long, arcing body tubes designed to clear most factory spoilers. Hold Fast cradles with anti-sway cages keep your bikes stable on the rack and help to prevent bike-to-bike contact. The patented FitDial mounting system offers quick and easy setup on most vehicles, and the independently adjustable dual arms let you transport a wide variety of bike sizes and frame styles.

Patented FitDial System

Thule Gateway XT's FitDial System

The patented FitDial system lets you easily adjust the rack body to fit the shape of your trunk. The long, arcing body tubes are designed to fit easily over most factory spoilers, so setup is a snap. Simply press the Quick-Fit levers and rotate the base until the centers of the levers line up with the correct numbers on the dials. These numbers are specified in the instructions included with the rack. Just find your vehicle, identify the correct number, and dial it up.

6-Strap Attachment System

Thule Gateway XT's 6-way nylon security straps

While the FitDial system ensures that the body of the rack is correctly seated on your vehicle, it is the 6 nylon straps that keep the rack anchored in place. The steel hooks on these extra-long straps are nylon coated to prevent scratches on your vehicle, and the straps tighten in place with easy-to-use, backpack-style cinches.

Thule Gateway XT's hook-and-loop strap tabs

Holders with hook-and-loop tabs (similar to Velcro) are included to bind up the excess strap length when the rack is mounted. Simply wrap the holders around the straps to help protect your vehicle from flapping straps.

Molded Foam Pads

Thule Gateway XT's paint-protecting foam pads

Foam pads on the Gateway XT's upper and lower bases grip your trunk or rear hatch to keep the rack firmly in place during transport. The pads are designed to provide friction without leaving scratches and scuff marks on your vehicle.

Hold Fast Cradles with Anti-Sway Cradles

Thule Gateway XT Hold Fast cradles

The Gateway XT has Hold Fast cradles that grip your bike frame at 3 different points - 2 on the top tube and 1 on the seat tube. Built-in anti-sway cages provide bike frame support and help prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-car contact. The cradles are made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), a stretchy, gel-like substance that absorbs road shock and minimizes vibration. Molded grooves in the cradles accommodate brake cables. Reinforced TPE straps keep your bike frames snug in the cradles and cages.

Independently Adjustable Arms

Thule Gateway XT's Cinch Lever Adjustment

The Gateway XT has narrowly spaced arms that make loading and unloading bikes hassle free. These arms are independently adjustable with the built-in Cinch-Levers. Just flip the lever up, rotate the arm to the desired position, then flip the lever down to lock the arm in place. This enables you to carry bikes with unique frames, and it helps to keep your bikes level on the rack.

Thule Gateway XT's fold-down arms

The Cinch-Levers also allow you to fold down the arms when the rack is not in use and to fold the rack flat for convenient storage.

Security for Bikes and Rack

To lock your bikes to the rack, you can add a Thule cable lock (TH538XT - sold separately). This cable lock features a One-Key lock cylinder that can be swapped out to make all your Thule products keyed alike. A passive security trunk strap (TH533 - sold separately) is also available to lock your bike rack to your trunk. This strap is threaded through the frame of the rack and around your trunk lid, securing the rack to your vehicle when the trunk is closed and locked.

Video Transcript for Thule Gateway 3 Bike Rack Review

Today we'll be going over the Thule Gateway Trunk-Mount Adjustable Three-Bike Rack, Part Number TH9007XT. Now, a great feature that is exclusive to the Thule Gateway is the unique and patented fit-dial system. Now this fit-dial system is designed to give you the exact fit depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle. It uses these numbers, here, as a fitting location to decide the arch or how the bike rack contours to the rear of your vehicle. You can use this gray lever here to push down, which will open this up, allowing you to adjust to the different numbers to accommodate your style of vehicle. Now, another neat thing about the Thule Gateway are the arms. You can see the arms can be folded down in a stored position when the bike does not need to be loaded.

This option, or this feature, basically reduces the added length to your vehicle, so if you have limited amount of space in your garage you can keep the bike rack secured without having to take it off. Now, the arms do move independently. We can bring them out by flipping out the gray lever. You can see the teeth will kind of open up, bring the arm out, making sure that they are level or slightly angled up. We'll tighten down the lever here and then clamp it and what will happen is that the teeth that are in this assembly here will pull towards each other and provide a really nice, strong hold. Like I mentioned earlier, the arms do move independently and that's going to reduce the need for a inaudible 01:26 bar. So, if your bike has an alternate frame, you can actually adjust this independently to accommodate that style of bike.

So one bar can be at this height, maybe you can drop the bar down a little bit at this height and give you an even amount of ground clearance so you don't have a front tire that's almost touching ground, the back tire that's way up here in the back. So now what we're going to do is just clamp this one down. Now that we have the arms out in a back-loading position, it will give you a little bit more detail of how this bike rack is actually laid out and designed. You can see that the arms actually bow outward, giving you a lot of clearance in between your rear hatch or the trunk of your car. This is going to accommodate for any spoilers that are raised up above the top part of the trunk or if they stick out past here, basically giving you a lot of room and a lot of extra space here to accommodate for those different styles of trunks. Another neat thing about the Thule Gateway is that the cradle arms are especially designed to be a bit narrower than normal. That's going to accommodate again those different styles, different sizes of bikes, and bikes that have minimum space between the seat posts of the bike and up towards the forks and handlebars.

Now, here on the cradle arms of the Thule Gateway are three attachment points to where you can secure the bike to the bike rack. So the three attachment points of the Thule Gateway, you have two here at the top tube, and you also have the anti-sway cradle. Now the anti-sway cradle is designed to go around the seat post of the bike, and that's going to help prevent the bike from swaying back and forth, coming in contact with your other bikes, or also the bike rack itself. They have these soft rubber straps, which are going to go around the bike frame and secure the bike to the rack. Now, if you can see at the top set of cradles, they have these especially designed grooves in there, and those grooves are designed to accommodate your brake cables or your hydraulic lines so they don't get pinched or kinked up when you're loading your bike up. Now the Thule Gateway has heavy-duty nylon straps that's going to help secure the bike rack to the vehicle. They also come with these hook and loop straps that's going to help secure the excess strap. Now, on the end of those straps are these heavy-duty steel clips.

Now these clips are coated in a vinyl paint and that's going to ensure that they're not scratching the surface of your vehicle or damaging the paint. Along with helping to protect your vehicle's paint, are these two sets of pads here at the bottom bar of the bike rack, and the top part of the bike rack, basically ensuring that your vehicle is protected. There's a carrying capacity of three bicycles, with a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Now we'll go ahead and show you how to install it. The first thing we need to do is place the bottom pads or the bottom bar of the bike rack on the upper tier of the rear bumper. Now we'll come up to the unique fit-dial system. So the vehicle that we're working on today does require a fit-dial of number 7. So we'll go to number 7, when you let go of the lever it is engaged, so now we'll just hook the bike rack forward and allow the top set of pads to rest on the top part of the trunk. And now what we can do is actually secure the bike rack to the trunk by using the six straps. So we'll go ahead and start with the top two straps. That's just going to help us hold the bike rack in place. We'll just take it and basically hook it on the top of our trunk. I'm going to wait until I get all of the other straps in place and hooked to the trunk before I tighten them down all the way. I'm just going to untangle this one, and then, again, just like I did the other strap, hook it to the top of the trunk, make sure it's centered on the trunk. Now that we've got them kind of snug and in place just helping us hold our bike rack there, now I can go ahead and continue with the side straps and then the bottom straps. So we'll take that and hook it into the side of our trunk. Now you want to be careful, depending on your application, you want to make sure that your hook is not on your tail-light housing. You just want to make sure that it's on a nice, strong, sturdy metal surface so that when you tighten it down it's not going to damage your tail-light or any other insensitive materials. Now, the bottom hook is the thinnest of the three hooks, it is gray, and that thin, skinny hook is going to allow us to easily hook it on the bottom of the trunk. Some trunks or maybe SUVs have these step plates or it may be difficult to get this bottom hook in place, all you're going to have to do is pop open the trunk or rear hatch just a little bit, get the hook in place, put some tension on it, and close the trunk. That's going to help keep it in place. So then we'll go ahead and pull this strap here on this black buckle. You can see that just pulling this one buckle is going to secure both the side and bottom strap. Again, I don't want to tighten this side down too much because I'm going to off-center the rack, so now I'm going to move to the other side of the rack, get that strap secured, and that way I can tighten them all down. Now that we have all six of our straps in place, what I'm going to do is I'm going to tighten down both side straps simultaneously, so that they pull on each other evenly. Then I'll just finish off with the top straps. Now what we're going to do is use the included hook and loop straps, which we're going to secure the excess strap of our bike rack to prevent the straps from flopping around in the wind and fraying, and overall reducing the life of the strap. So, I'm just going to fold this up here like so, and then use those hook and loop straps that are included with this bike rack to secure the strap. Then I'll just repeat the same process for the other straps. Now we'll go ahead and load up a bike. The first thing we need to do is simply undo the three rubber cradle straps. Now that that's done, we can simply take our bike and place it into the frame cradles. I'm going to start with the anti-sway strap, bringing the strap around the vertical bar of the bike, and then bring the top two straps around the top part of the bike frame. Now we'll load up some additional bikes and take it out on our test course to show you how it performs. And that will complete today's review of the Thule Gateway Adjustable Trunk-Mount Three-Bike Rack, Part Number TH9007XT. .

Ordered a second bike rack from this company again because the first purchase was fast and at a reasonable price . The Thule bike rack fits my car trunk, the easy dial allows flexibility. Holds 2 bikes with lots of space between if you want. It would fit 3 but having a women's frame and a men's frame you need the extra space. I prefer using a 3 bike rack for my 2 bikes. Again the ordering, delivery and reasonable price from this company made me a repeat customer. 432509

It's much bigger than it seems so storing it is a pain. Ironically, for being so unweildingly large it's too small to actually hold 3 bikes. This thing has caused more dents, scratches, and missing paint than I care to admit. It's not the rack itself but the way it holds the bikes. There's no way to position the petals so they don't hit my Mazda 3 hatchback. 392335

I purchased this Thule bike rack over a year ago, and finally used it to transport 3 bikes from Germany to the Swiss Alps for a camping trip. I found the instructions easy to understand, and this was an ideal Fit for my Volvo XC90 SUV. The Bike rack was very stable with no rubbing or damage to my Vehicle. The included rubber straps and velcro strap holders worked well. I look forward to many more road trips with this bike rack. 268205

2014 Honda Accord

We bought the Thule 3 bike trunk rack for a vacation trip from ohio to South Carolina. We were greatly disappointed when we arrived and unloaded our bikes to find dents in both our trunk and the rear bumper of our new 2014 Honda Accord. We will be returning this bike rack and will try a Saris instead. 136390

Thank you for taking the time to review our product! We are sorry to hear that your bumper was dented during the use of the product. According to the included fit tips, the lower arms should be positioned on the bottom of the license plate well, so there is no contact made with the rear bumper. This is recommended because many new cars do not have a sufficient backing behind the plastic bumpers, and thus the load bearing capacity is low. This may also have contributed if there were dents on the lid as well, because the carrier would have rested more towards the middle of the trunk as opposed to closer to the rear window where the weight bearing capacity is higher.

Product looks good (haven't used it yet) and easy to install. Etrailer was awesome to deal with. Ordered the rack on a Saturday, didn't expect it to be shipped till at least Monday or Tuesday. Not only was it shipped on Saturday, Etrailer bumped the shipping priority up a notch (at no cost to me) and communicated frequently. I recieved the delivery the following Wednesday. Highly recommend using Etrailer for any of your needs, I will. 96515

The tips for installation for my Honda Element stated to put the two bottom straps on the center tow loop behind the bumper. This was very difficult and I am not sure how secure the rack is. Other than that this is an excellent product. 56006

Review from a similar Thule Gateway in Trunk Bike Racks

Used this bike rack to drive cross country twice this year. After the first 2 days one of the foam pieces on the bottom support ripped in half, so I duct taped it and it still works, although I shouldn't have had to do that. It also make a dent in my trunk, right under the license plate; although, to be fair, that was during the second road trip after driving through a snow storm in the Rocky Mountains. I think the wind was pressing the bike rack down and that's what ended up denting the car. I also had the issue of the cradles sliding out of place, so that the bikes would end up not being parallel with the trunk, and because of this the bike came OUT of the saddle a couple of times. My saving grace was having used my U-LOCK to lock the bikes together, so the outermost bike that came out of the saddle was locked to the inner bike and thus didn't fly off completely on the highway. It was actually quite a terrifying experience. Overall, I think this is a great bike rack for day trips and easy to use once you get the swing of things. I would not recommend this for anyone driving further than a few hours away. 300505

Heavy-duty construction and well thought out. I use the bike rack on my 2010 Chevy Malibu to carry two mountain bikes. To make sure I don't scratch the trunk paint surface a friend recommended I place micro-fiber clothes under the contact points. Works great. No worries about stability when traveling down the road. Good investment. 251995

Review from a similar Thule Gateway in Trunk Bike Racks

Today I installed the Gateway XT 2 Bike Carrier - Trunk Mount and used the Thule Bike Adapter Bar - Womens & Alt. Frame Bikes to hang two bikes on the back of my 2013 Mustang, 2 dr, with factory spoiler. I read the instructions over breakfast. It seemed pretty simple, and it was. Of course, being the first time installing the carrier it was a little slow as I figured out what went where but referring back to the instructions made the install go smoothly. A couple points of note: 1) Not too comfortable that the strap clips won't scratch the paint. They're coated but not padded. I'll probably glue a thin rubber padding to the inside of the top and bottom clips. The side clips just barely slide on and there is no room for any additional padding. 2) Discovered that I needed to secure the inside pedal upward to ensure it did not bang against the bumper. I used a mini-bungee cord but weaving the supplied tie down strap might do the trick. Not sure (yet) which is fastest/easiest method. Definitely need the tie down strap to keep the front wheel of the inside bike from beating against the car. 3) Although the Adapter Bar does hold my wife's bike level, the bar at its shortest position is a few inches too long leaving gaps at the front and back. There did not appear to be a way to lock the bar length and only the ripple straps to keep the bar from vibrating looser. Hopefully not a problem on long drives or bumpy roads. I'm attaching a couple photos from the install process that you are free to use. Sincerely, JP Hanover, PA 407343

etrailer got this bike rake to us in record time. Order on a Sunday was here by Thursday. The bike rake does fit my car though my 2015 Prius has a spoiler on the back of the car and I had to change the manufacture suggestion setting of 7 to and 8 to get it off the spoiler. All in all I'm very happy I found etrailer they were very helpful and got me my order on time. thanks from Canton, CT. 275037

Review from a similar Thule Gateway in Trunk Bike Racks

I just used the Thule Gateway XT 2 trunk mount bike rack along with a Swagman DLX bike adapter bar on my 2014 Taurus to transport my son's mountain bike over 900 miles from KY to FL. It preformed excellently and was very stable. It was a little tight because of the bikes frame, so to be safe I used the outside mount on the rack to carry the bike so it would not hit the bumper. I also recommend tying (in my case, bungie cord) the bike to the Thule frame so it cannot rock into the car's trunk or bumper, especially at highway speeds. But with a few simple precautions, even long distance transportation was a breeze! 221775

I only used it once as it scratched the paint on my car. Im going to see about putting a trailer hitch on my car to enable use of an upright rack. Frankly Im sorry I bought it.

Let me begin by saying that anytime you have a piece of equipment strapped to the painted finish of a vehicle, the potential for scratches or dents exists, no getting around it. This being said, the risks can be minimized by putting as little weight as possible on the racks and by observing the rack's weight capacity, by installing the rack exactly as described in the instructions, and by keeping the surfaces where the rack and vehicle touch absolutely clean. A good coat of quality car wax where the surfaces meet would add extra protection. I typically tell people that if they have a newer vehicle and are concerned about scratching the finish, a hitch and hitch mounted bike rack is without a doubt the way to go.

I have a 2015 Dodge Dart. It was easy to install and it holds my GT mountain bike and my wife's Nishki Mountain bike. It held the bike's firmly and to my delight, it did not allow my car to get scratched while driving. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, I wish the straps were retractable. It comes with ties but it doesn't look good. I know Thule makes one but it was more than I wanted to spend. 280885

works just fine. solid workmanship and materials. When straps are snug, bikes do not move/sway. Able to adjust arms higher to allow for more bicycle tire clearance since Toyota Avalon is low to the ground. Do have a slight concern regarding wear-ability of rubber straps. but they are thick and I assume I can get replacement straps if necessary. 232404

Originally bought this for my Honda Fit but it's adaptable enough that it also fits on my Buick Enclave. Have only used it a couple of times so far and it works very well. I am exclusively a road biker and it holds my large frame road bike well. Holds the bike steady and well above exhaust pipe level and mounting the bike takes less than a minute. I have other carriers over the years and this is probably one of the best. 202977

Review from a similar Thule Gateway in Trunk Bike Racks

The Thule TH900SXT (2 bike) rack we ordered arrived within a few days. All the parts were in the box and it took only about one hour to fit on our 2013 Volvo XC60. The instruction manual was easy to follow and required only a few steps. When we used the rack the next day, it held our bikes securely in place with no sway and well away from our vehicle's tailgate. We are very pleased with the rack's performance. 172727

I opened the box and put the unit together, installed it on my automobile and placed both bikes on the rack. This insluded reading the installation manual and watching the installation video took about 40 minutes. The bike rack is much sturdier than previous ones that I have used. Removing and collapsing is easy also. After the initial strap adjustment there will be very little adjustments while installing the second time. I will enjoy using this unit for years to come. We are planning our first biking excursion next week to test this out on the road. 164335

I recently had the chance to try out my ThuleTH9006XT and it performed perfectly. I had my two bikes secured on the rack and they did not budge, I will be hauling them to Mrytle Beach this weekend and after the test run I will be very comfortable that the Thule will do it"s job. thank you for a great product. 149933

Review from a similar Thule Gateway in Trunk Bike Racks

I got the bike rack in the factory box. The box tape seem opened and retaped many layers. The rack has some rusty little spots. one of the bike holding arm has a stripped screw. I have to replaced the screw with a bigger and little longer screw. If you said some one opened the box to check the rack before shipping out then that person did not do his/her job. If etrailer shipped out the returned racked then etrailer needs to inspect the rack to make sure it is factory condition. Any way the rack is very good for its price. The feeling about this rack is not excellent. It's just ok. You pay for what you get guy. 136120

It was super simple to assemble: from the box to the car within 10-minutes. Because I drive a sports car, I was worried about the curves and highway speeds but, everything was secured tightly and it worked to perfection. 118516

Do you have a question about this Trunk Bike Rack?

  • Recommended Thule Trunk Mount Bike Rack on a 2019 Honda Fit
  • There are a number of Thule trunk mount bike racks that fit on your 2019 Honda Fit as long as it doesn't have the factory spoiler. Of them I recommend the Gateway XT, part # TH9006XT for the 2-bike model or part # TH9007XT for the 3-bike. It's a high quality rack with some of Thule's great features like the FitDial and Hold Fast cradles without really bringing up the price tag. I've linked the complete list of Thule racks for your Fit as well; however, like I said, they won't fit if...

  • Trunk-Mount 3-Bike Carrier Recommendation for 2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon
  • For your 2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon I can suggest 3-bike racks from Thule that will easily handle two kid's bikes plus an adult bike. If you'd like a rack that offers the convenience of built-in locks for the rack itself and also for your loaded bikes then I suggest the Thule Archway 3, part # TH9010XT. If you prefer a more cost-effective non-locking carrier then I suggest the Gateway 3, part # TH9007XT. With either option you will want to load the heaviest bike first (so it is nearest...

Since you plan on carrying childrens bikes you may also be interested in purchasing a Thule Bike Adapter Bar # TH982XT. • Comparing the Thule Passage and Gateway Trunk Mount Bike Racks for a 2008 Volvo XC90
