Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

The Thule Passage offers an affordable, safe way to transport two bikes without a hitch. The Passage mounts to the rear of your Dodge Grand Caravan with six integrated straps and Thule's patented Fit Dial system, which adjusts the rack base to ensure a snug fit.

The Passage includes cushioned anti-sway cradles with Thule's No-Sway Cage accessories to prevent bike-to-bike contact during transport. The anti-sway cradles also keep your bikes from making contact with the Dodge Grand Caravan.

The carrier's dual support arms provide stability for your bikes during transit, and the arms conveniently fold down when not in use for additional rear clearance and easy storage.

Video Transcript for Thule Passage Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today on our 2017 Doge Grand Caravan, we're going to be test fitting the Thule Passage 2-bike rack. Part number TH910XT. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead, take a closer and show off some of the features. How the bike is actually attached to the rack, we're going to have three points of contact. We're going to have two straps up at the top here, and one off to the side, and that's going to serve as an anti-sway cradle to make sure that the bikes don't come in contact with each other. The cradles are padded, and can move along the length of the arms to assist with loading.

Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. With the bike rack in this position, I'm going to go ahead and give you a quick measurement. Measuring from the edge of the bumper to our outer arm here, we've added about 19 inches to the rear of the vehicle. For close quarters situations, such as parking, or putting in your garage, you're going to need a little extra clearance in the rear. To do that, there's silver tabs on both sides, on each arm, you just push those in at the same time, and twist down.

Now they are folded out of the way. Again, measuring from the edge of the bumper, now we've only added about 8 inches to the rear of the vehicle, so it did make a little bit of difference. How this actually attaches to your hatch, we're going to have 6 points of contact. We're going to have 2 rubber coated hooks up at the top, two to either side, right near the taillights, and then two at the bottom as well. There are pads at the bottom where the hatch meets the bumper, as well as where it makes contact with your rear windshield. This is to ensure that your vehicle it's doesn't get scratched up once this is installed as well. You can't use your rear windshield wiper blade once this is installed, and on the insides here, you'll see turn knobs, and this dial here, and that's what you're going to be using once you actually fit this to your vehicle.

They are numbers, and the setting that we have it for this particular vehicle is 11. Although, you always want to double check your instructions to make sure that's accurate. There you have it for the Thule Passage 2-bike rack, part number TH910XT on our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side-to-side action which simulates turning corners, or evasive maneuvers.

Next, we're at the alternating speed bumps, which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Finally, we have the full speed bumps, where we'll see the up-and-down action, which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage, or driveway.

Product works great. Two bikes are secure. What is really nice is that when the bikes are off, you do not have to remove the rack to open the Outback hatch back. 666527

Good product that folds when not in use, but I don't like the side and bottom straps. They are not separate straps and they use a much poorer design compared to the top 2 straps to tighten them down. Top 2 straps use a simple unlock with thumb, pull to tighten, then release thumb and automatically locks straps in place. Side and bottom straps are a loop through design and require you to pull and tug on the other end to tighten. Also top straps when using the clamps on the trunk pulls it too far up causing about a finger gap. So I re-read the instructions and choose to re-route the strap through the clamp to go under the trunk like a support. That prevents my trunk from excessive gap. I had already contacted etrailer for a return but found out the return shipping alone was almost the cost of the product so I decided to keep it and use it for the time being. So either get a different design trunk rack, or just go with a hitch. Its better that way. I just swapped mines out for a hitch considering the price of the hitch is similar and more sturdy. 134157

Thank you for the comment Qhua! If you do experience any difficulty in mounting the carrier with the top hooks, as you mentioned you can re-route the top clips to be used as a in clip this is our Versa-Clip design that will allow for multiple mounting methods. We also appreciate your feedback on the strap design. As the top straps are the most load bearing, we have used a different tensioning system to ensure trouble free operation. Thanks again!

2013 Dodge Grand Caravan

I just assembled it and put it on my Dodge Grand Caravan last night. Took about a 5 mile ride with it this morning to see how it was doing. Seems to be fine. I've tightened all straps as tight as possible. The side clips seem to have a little play along the sides of the hatchback door but everything appears and seems to be solid. Even with the straps tightened all the way, you can still move/pull on them a bit, because they are nylon, so even though they seem to be secure now, I will check them at different intervals to see if they are retaining their hold. The sway bar option was a nice addition and I also cut some Velcro straps to tie down both wheels and the handle bars from swinging. Another nice surprise was that I was still able to open my rear van door with the bike rack attached. I would say, all in all, this is a great sturdy design and as long as I use due diligence to watch for any loosening of the straps over time, I should be just fine! 216686

One year later and no problems at all. I think the longest distance I have traveled with the bike on the rack has been about 25-30 miles, mostly around to local biking areas. I may be taking it a few hundred miles down the road coming up in the future as their are some out of state locations I want to go to. I will not hesitate to do this or worry about any issues since this rack has shown itself to be so dependable. I usually leave it on the van for a few months at a time and when I have had to remove it and put it back on, it has been quite easy and fast. After having the rack on for a long period the rubber foam cushions can get pretty flattened where they sit up against the window and back of the van, The foam will reform back out about 25 of where it was flattened to, so probably at some point I may need to replace that foam but other than that I have no complaints and have been extremely satisfied with this product.

Made a last minute decision to purchase this bike rack so that my daughter would have more room in her SUV for a move to Charlestown, SC. As promised by Kelly, it arrived the evening before her departure with only a $7 or so 2- day delivery charge. Although a little concerned, it was at my house in a little over 48 hours. Had a little issue with the mount due to the bike's unusual frame, but the design of the rack and the accessories provided more than allowed for a successful and safe installation. Wish I had a pix of her SUV loaded with the roof bag on top, the bike on the rear and just enough room for her to slide into the car. But she's already in her new home with a bike rack for future use that loaded so securely that it barely moved when I pulled on it. As an added measure, I did velcro the wheels to the bike frame to immobilize any extraneous movement. This is a quality product that is very reasonably priced. 149784

The e-trailer service is exceptional. I had trouble mounting this rack on my 09 VW CC and they provided technical assistance. Due to the fit issue I returned the rack and purchased a hitch mount set-up. They were very helpful in assisting with the return and alternate purchase. In this age of poor internet customer service they are great. If it is not right they will work with you on a good solution. 120397

The package looked as though it had been used as a soccer ball (see pictures). Fortunately, the rack seems to be in good condition. Key word "seems". Another thing, I ordered on a Tuesday evening with 3-day shipping (which cost extra). It was shipped at around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday according to an email. So I'm thinking I'm going to get it Friday. Makes sense. 3-Day, shipped Wednesday early (day 1). Should be here Friday (day 3). No such luck. Another email stated that because of the holiday it wouldn't arrive until Tuesday September 5th. I won't be ordering from this company again. 430012

2006 Scion xA

The Thule Passage 2 fit well on my Scion xA (2006) and carried two road bikes with aplomb on a 5-hour drive at ~70 MPH in the rain. The mounting brackets for the bikes required adjustment to space out the two bikes further apart; this took a lot of force to move but I was eventually able to get them positioned so the two bikes, one with an XL and the other an XS frame, could be mounted properly. The bottom and side straps and clips feel kind of wobbly but in practice they held up perfectly fine. 310845

Was fairly easy to figure out and put together. Mounting it to my 2010 Exuinox was a little time consuming doing it alone, but all in all it was worth the time. Held our two bikes very well. I would recommend this product to others looking for a more economical way to transport bikes other than having to install a receiver that hitches to a bike rack. 180118

2015 Ford Edge

Ordered online, it shipped the same day. Received it 3 days later. There is a little assembly, but, pretty simple. It took me less than 15 minutes to install and no tools were needed. It is adjustable to be used on many different auto types, but, the instructions were very clear about how to adjust it to fit my 2011 Ford Edge. I have used it twice so far to transport my bike. There are a couple of items that are inherent in the design, not a flaw, but, you need to be aware of them. First, you can't use rear window wipers. Second, the back-up alarm goes nuts because it registers a bike less than 6 inches behind you (I tolerate it for the few seconds it takes to back out of my driveway or out of a parking lot). Third, there is a little flexibility, it is held on with straps and clamps, not bolts, so, it bounces a little when you go over bumps or make sharp turns, however, it holds the bike fast to the frame and stays on the car. I use mine to transport my bike on short trips around town to bike trails. On a long trip I would suggest checking that the straps remain tight from time to time during the drive. 173351

Mercury Milan

The Thule Passage bike carrier was exactly what I was looking for. It is the perfect size for 2 adult bikes. The rack is easy to setup and fits on to my Milan securely. My boyfriend helped me the first time but it is simple enough for me to put it on my car alone. The last time I ordered a bike carrier online it was big and bulky. Once I had everything out of the box and started to put it altogether, I found a paper at the bottom of the box saying that model did not fit 3 vehicles and one was mine. I was a little discouraged and now apprehensive when ordering another rack. But this carrier was exactly what it said it was and there were no surprise papers at the bottom of the box. Great choice if you're looking for a carrier for 1 or 2 bikes. 81310

A clamp-on adapter bar should do the trick. It attaches to the handle bars and the seat post to provide that flat bar. I have added links to Thule's bar, part # TH982XT

So far, so good. The bike rack was fairly easy to put on my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe; & everything seemed to stay where it belongs on the trip to Pizza Hut for supper tonight. The "roll up excess strap" instruction didn't happen (How do you roll it up & keep it rolled up?). We'll see how it works on our trip to the beach this coming week for our anniversary. 265066

Will the Thule TH910XT for the 2011 Camry accommodate a womens bike?

-- comment by: Sandy - 09/02/2013

2008

Yes it will, but it will probably need an adapter bar. Without an adapter bar, the bike either will not fit, or will sit far off balance like in the picture from Melony. An adapter bar provides a full size, level tube from which to hang the bike. Thule offers one, it is part TH982XT.

After a bad experience with a previous bike rack in high winds (not a Thule), we were very leery about bike racks. This one passes every test! We live in a state with high winds- this rack weathered 50+ mile wind gusts with ease. It was easily installed on our Buick Encore-VERY pleased with this rack! The rack is used for police bike patrol and overall is satisfactory for this duty. My only issues are the straps that hold the rack to the vehicle have a tendency to loosen up during cornering and need to be tightened at least twice during a shift. Also where the bars that hold the bike attach to the rack itself seem a bit "fragile". I'm sure this is because they can be turned down to lessen space when a bike is not on it. I understand we use this item a little more roughly than your usual customer and at times need to drive a little more aggressively. On a positive note, I am able to quickly attach and detach the bike and haven't had it fall off over the past year. I hope this helps. I am pleased with the rack overall. 402828

The product is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone. The one thing that made it a little difficult is my wife's bike does not have a crossbar and that made it very difficult connecting it. With a lot of effort, we were finally able to get it connected, and it was a little tougher on the return trip but it held the bikes in place. I later found out that the company does have an adapter for the type of bike I had problems with. I wish this would have been displayed as a possible alternative, depending on one's bike. 555286

2010 Subaru Forester

I’ve had the Thule bike rack for about three weeks now and have the following comments: 1. Order and delivery from etrailer was extremely great as I received the item within a few days of ordering. 2. Assembly of the bike rack was very easy and took a very short period of time. The instructions provided with the item were easy to follow. The online video on assembling and mounting the rack is also very good should you want to also follow that to ensure you did everything correctly. 3. The bike rack was mounted on a 2010 Subaru Forester and fit very well. It is secure and you can easily open and close the hatchback with the bike rack installed without the rack becoming loose. I’ve had the rack mounted the whole time and have had no issues with it becoming loose. 4. With a bike mounted on the rack, the bike is held very secure by the three straps and does not move around too much with the key being to secure the front tire to the bike frame using the enclosed strap. I’ve only traveled on city streets with bumps and turns so far with the bike mounted, but don’t anticipate any issues with high speed travel on the interstate due to the solid build of the rack and the way it secures a bike in place. Overall I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to others. 544653

I ordered the Thule TH910XT trunk mount bicycle carrier for my 2015 Hyundai Sonata and it fits great! It comes in handy when I bike far away from home, on vacation or bringing the bike in for repair. It easily folds up and fits neatly in the trunk if so desired. It sets up quickly, holds the bike snug and keeps it from swaying back and forth towards the license plate which keeps the pedals away from the car. It holds another bike if desired and keeps the bikes from hitting each other. Great product...I'm glad I found it on etrailer.com. 157179

Outstanding bike rack for the price. Clear setup manual, parts do not feel cheap, works exactly like it is supposed to. Put my bike on it, did not even hear a sound of parts struggling keep up the weight. No squealing, no scratching noise at all. One thing to look for is when you tighten the straps with no bike on, make sure you tighten the side and bottom ones again after you place the bike on, as they will come loose as top straps will be holding all the weight. And be ready to sacrifice using your rear wiper since you will not be able to. One thing I wish it came with would be some kind of small Velcro fasteners to secure the loose ends of the straps with. But I just did with duck tape, works just fine, too. Also, outstanding customer service from etrailer folks! 428629

The product arrived in very quick time. However, one of the locking spring loaded pins refused to pop out to its locked position. After about a half hour of fiddling it finally popped out as it should have. It is installed in a 2014 Rav 4 XLE and fitted well. I have yet to take it for a test run. 2013 Toyota Prius C

I bought this product for a 2013 PriusC, and to hold a 2016 Giant Stance 2. I'll list the pros and cons. Pros: - etrailer had great videos for how to put the rack on the car, and the performance of the rack while driving - assembly was easy, and nothing was damaged in the box - It fit on the car nicely (use setting 9 for same make and model as mine), and once the straps were tightened properly (watch the video!) it was nice and secure - the extra strap for securing the front wheel was handy Cons - my bike fits, but not as well as I had hoped. The cups which hold the frame of the bike are WAY better suited for skinnier frames like those of road bikes - some components on the rack could be a litter nicer quality (buckles on the top straps are nice and metal, but the ones for the side and underside and plastic, also, the foam pads could be a little more substantial) - essentially takes the functionality from your hatch, but that is to be expected, and it is so lightweight, that you can easily take it on and off Overall I am happy with the choice, it was more affordable and easy to assemble/install that other options, however I wish some of the components were slightly upgraded, and that the cups were slightly wider to accommodate most mountain bike models. Thule also has a warranty for the rack so that will cover any defects. 385470

The bike rack is well made. It took a few tries to figure out how to install, after that is really easy. I’m happy with this tool. 570069

At first I had high hopes when I revived a personalized looking email that my package had been shipped early. When the package arrived it had no secondary box. I literally came home to a Thule box sitting on my porche with a shipping label slapped on the box. No packing beans or anything. The box had been dented in on the right corner, ussualy I would blame this on ups. But ETRAILER decided to ship my package with absolutely no protection whatsoever. To add to insult to injury as I unboxed the unit I found that the the plastic buckle was broken yielding my bike rack useless and unsafe.. to add piss to the grave they are not responding to my emails regarding setting up a return. I'm not trying to slander this company, I'm just posting my exact experisnace. I hope they can at least respond to my email for a return.. 437405

Great customer service, same day shipping, overall perfect experience and great product. I had the rack in my hands less than 48 hours after ordering. The rack performed flawlessly on an over 600mile road trip. The straps stayed tight with no loosening at sustained high speeds for hours. I'm very happy with this purchase. 133007

Ask the Experts about this Thule Trunk Bike Racks

Do you have a question about this Trunk Bike Rack?

  • Will Thule Passage Trunk Rack Fit 2013 Toyota Prius c
  • We checked with Thule and the Passage trunk rack part # TH910XT that you referenced is a confirmed fit. With this trunk rack, and all trunk racks in general, you can't open the rear door when the bike rack is installed. Reason is the the struts that hold the rear door open are can't handle the weight of the rack and the clips for the rack will most likely prevent the door from opening without it binding up. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 Hyundai Ioniq SEL Hybrid
  • The best option for a hitch would be the Draw Tite # 24963 which is a confirmed fit and will work well. I prefer this over the Curt equivalent as it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but also it'll be very easy...

  • Recommendation For Bike Rack For 2017 Convertible VW Beetle
  • The Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier, Item # TH910XT, will not work with your convertible 2017 VW Beetle and will only work with a hardtop without a panoramic roof. To have a bike rack, your best option is to add a hitch specially designed for your car. The Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Hitch, Item # 24922, is designed for your convertible and has a 1-1/4 inch receiver so that you could carry a hitch bike rack. The Swagman XC 2-Bike Platform Style, Item # S64650, is a solid 2 bike...

  • 2-Bike Trunk Mount Bike Rack for a 2016 Subaru Forester with Electronic Liftgate
  • There are several 2-bike trunk mount racks that will work with the electronic liftgate option on your 2016 Subaru Forester. For a rack that is similar to the Passage you were looking at I recommend the Yakima HangOut # Y02637. I have included a link to a video review of this rack for you. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to...

Check out the link to the review for this that I attached to this page. • Best Way to Carry Bikes Cross Country on a 2015 Subaru Forester
  • The Thule Passage Trunk Mount Bike Carrier # TH910XT can handle a long trip but I recommend checking it frequently just to make sure it's secure. Similarly I would do the same to the cargo on the roof of the car. With that being said that's a long time to have weight sitting on the back of your 2015 Subaru Forester. I'd be more concerned about any damage to the vehicle than I would be the rack's stability. You may want to consider adding a trailer hitch receiver and getting a hitch...

  • Velcro Tie-Downs to Secure Extra Strap Material on Thule Passage Trunk-Mount Bike Rack
  • Extra strap length on a trunk-mount bike rack like your Thule Passage # TH910XT can be secured using an item like the 5-piece Swagman kit # S64765 (which are 8-inches long). The straps can also be used to secure your front wheels and handlebars so they do not move while in transit. I recommend you avoid cutting the bike rack's straps if possible.

  • At this point in time (August 2019) the Thule Passage # TH910XT is not confirmed as a fit for your 2019 Mini Countryman but I do have a similar solution for you. The Yakima HalfBack # Y02636 is a similar alternative to the Passage and I actually think you would like this option more even if the Passage did fit because it uses 4 straps instead of 6 so it is easier to install and it has more of a stylish look over the basic bare-bones look of the Passage. But I recommend going with the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top rack # HRF2 for 2 bikes or # HRF2-3 for 3 bikes. If you're planning on carrying women's bikes with a step-through frame or a bike with a sharply angled top tube like some hybrids, you might want to consider using a frame adapter like part # 64005.
