Raceway PRO platform-style 2 bike rack

The Thule Raceway PRO Platform 2-bike carrier gives you the convenience of a wheel-mount-style carrier without the need for a trailer hitch. The tray-mount design allows for bike loading and unloading at a lower, more manageable height, and the telescoping base adjusts to carry bikes of different lengths. Adjustable frame clamps grab your bikes by the top tubes to hold them firmly in place during transport. And built-in locks secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Adjustable Arms with Locking Frame Clamps

TPE-padded bike frame clamp

Clamps with built-in TPE pads grab your bikes by the top tubes to ensure safe transport with minimal movement and noise. The clamps can be rotated to securely grab bike frames with angled downtubes, and they tighten with nylon hand knobs. Each hand knob includes a One-Key System lock cylinder to secure your bikes to the rack.

Sloping, Telescoping Wheel Trays

Telescoping wheel trays accommodate almost any bike size

The Raceway PRO Platform has sloping, telescoping wheel trays that ensure fast and easy bike loading. The sloping design and low loading height minimize the lifting required to load bikes onto the rack. The telescoping trays adjust to accommodate bikes of almost any length, including children's bikes. To adjust the wheel trays, simply open the cam levers, slide the trays in or out to the desired length, and close the cam levers to lock the wheel trays in place. Ratcheting straps secure your bike wheels to the trays.

Patented FitDial System

The Raceway PRO uses Thule's patented FitDial system to ensure a snug fit on your vehicle and to make installation a snap. The included instructions indicate which FitDial number is right for your vehicle. To set the rack up, simply lift the center levers, adjust the base until the arrow lines up with the right number, and close the levers to lock in your setting.

The rack base opens and closes like a clamshell, so it fits snugly on just about any trunk or rear hatch, and it clears most factory spoilers.

Sure-Tight Retractable Cables

4 Sure-Tight braided steel cables with coated hooks attach the rack firmly to your vehicle's trunk or rear hatch. These cables won't fatique over time like nylon straps, and they're a lot more difficult to cut than nylon straps.

Oversize ratcheting knobs let you precisely tighten each cable. To secure the rack to your vehicle, simply pull up on the release levers to deploy the cables. With the hooks in place on your trunk, turn the ratcheting knobs to tighten the cables until the rack is snug against your vehicle.

Sleeves and Pads Protect Your Trunk

Protective TPE cable sleeves

The Sure-Tight cables and hooks are coated with durable nylon, and the cables have movable sleeves that help protect your vehicle's paint from scuffs and scratches. Contoured TPE pads on the rack's upper and lower bases grip your trunk or rear hatch to keep the rack firmly in place during transport.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

The Raceway PRO Platform's built-in One-Key System locks - on the clamp knobs and the release lever covers - let you secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Raceway with locking lever covers

And release lever covers keep dirt and grime out of the cable release levers and they lock so you can secure the rack to your vehicle. Since you cannot release the cables without pressing the levers, the locking covers offer an effective anti-theft device for the rack.

One-Key System cylinder, keys, and change key

The One-Key System cylinders are keyed alike so you only need a single key for the rack, and they can be swapped out if you own other Thule products and want to use the same key to lock them all.

Folding Design for Compact Storage

Folding platform for parking clearance

The platform folds up toward your vehicle for parking clearance and the entire rack folds up for storage.

Video Transcript for Thule Raceway PRO Platform 2 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Raceway Pro. This is a trunk-mount 2-bike platform-style rack what adjustable arms. Part number is TH9003PRO. As you can see, the Raceway is going to give us a great solution for the trunk-mounted bike rack that we want to use a platform for so our bikes aren't hanging in there hitting up against each other. Most of the rack here is going to be made out of a high-density polymer material. This is going to provide zero corrosion possibilities.

Any of our main structural components where we really need that weight to be held, these are going to be made completely of aluminum down here on our wheel trays, up here on the main mast coming through. Again, no corrosion issues that we're really going to have to worry about with this rack. Now securing the rack to our vehicle going to be nice, heavy duty steel cables that have a protective covering over them like a rubberized coating. That way we're not going to do any scratches or cause any damage to our vehicle. We've got a really neat turn-style system here. We'll just turn that knob and it's going to act like a ratchet mechanism to bring all of that tension out.

You'll see that when we do the install. The hooks themselves that are going to go into our seams, these are going to be a metal hook fully rubber-coated, so again, scratches, dings, stuff like that not going to have to worry about. Something else that I really like you can see, typically that would be the way the strap would end but you've got these really nice rubber protectors. Those are going to come right up under there, support that clip, and prevent any scratches or abrasion on your vehicle's paint. The same can be said for the pads that are going to make contact with the vehicle in the upper portion and the lower portion. These are going to be a nice rigid rubberized material so there's not a lot of flex and give there so your bikes are still going to have a nice steady ride, but we're not going to have that scratching and stuff that we're used to with a lot of the trunk-mount bike rack's. Our bike is secured in three locations.

The first is going to be our upper frame clamp. It comes in, there's a rubberized material on the inside of the clamp. This is going to protect our bike's frame. Our final two attachment points going to be completely frame-free contact. These are going to be our wheel cradle straps.

They're going to come around the rims of our bike, connect in both here on the front and on the rear. As you can see inside of our clamp here, it's going to have the RDT or the road-dampening technology. It's a nice rubberized material here, takes a lot of the shock out of your bike's ride. There's a keyhole located right here in the end so we can just take our key, secure that, and our handle will no longer operate. Now this versatile rack has several adjustments available as you can see. Our wheel cradles are fully adjustable in and out. This is going to help us to accommodate a wide variety of bike sizes anywhere from 40-1/2 all the way up to 62" wheel base. As you can see, our top frame tube clamp arms are independently adjustable. This is going to allow us to fit a wide variety and a lot of different designs of bikes. Now that we've gone over some of the features let's take a look at how to get this installed on your vehicle. The lower padded rest is going to go right down on the bumper. We'll lift the two gray levers and then we'll set our fit dial to whatever it called out in the instructions as to what works for our car. In our case today we need to use fit dial number seven so we're going to line up the smaller arrow with the number seven, and then we simply press those gray levers back to hold it in that position. With the fit dial set we'll just allow the upper arm to come up, make contact with our vehicle. Then we'll get our hooks set. We'll need to open up the cover that protects our catches, pull the small gray tab, and then that's going to allow us to extend out some length of cable. In this particular application they're going to get hooked right up here where the hatch meets the back of the car. Now to take that slack out we're just going to turn the gray dials. Here at the bottom we're going to bring our straps around the underside of our trunk and then tighten those down just like we did the other ones, just slightly for now. Now we can go around, we'll tighten our upper straps up just a little bit at a time, then our lower straps. As you can see there now with just a little extra tension we've got a nice solid positive lock on our vehicle. Now we can bring our locking covers up and close those. To prepare the rack for our bike there are two gray handles located on each side. We'll tilt the platform up towards the vehicle, pull the gray levers, and then just allow it to fold away. As you can see there, our levers will go back into their original position and hold the rack in the platform-style. To further prepare our rack we're going to undo the front and rear wheel straps. Pull out on those gray levers we talked about earlier to allow our wheel cradles to slide so we can get this custom fit to our bike. Looks like they need to go out just a little bit further. Let's see how that works. Then we can bring up our frame clamp and we'll bring that right over the top tube and then tighten that on down. Now let's move to each wheel and secure these with our strap. As you can see here, we've got both bikes loaded up. We're ready to head down the road. Another great feature that this rack offers is going to be that Thule One-Key system. That means we've got our second bike locked into position. We can't remove that. We can't remove our first bike because we've got the locks deactivated on our handles, but we've also got our release points covered and locked so the bikes are secured to the rack, the rack's secured to the car. As long as you've got your car, you should have both your rack and your bikes. Now let's head out to the test course with our two bikes and see how this rack's going to perform. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side movement just like if we we're changing lanes or maybe doing some evasive maneuvers. Once we go around the corner here we're going to enter into the alternating speed bumps. This is going to show us the torquing and twisting action of the rack just like if we we're to maybe hit a small pothole or curb. That's going to complete today's look at the Thule Raceway Pro. This is a trunk-mounted 2-bike platform-style rack. Part number is TH9003PRO. .

Haven't used it yet but sure seems like it's going to be a fine rack. I've built a lot of cars and have worked in the construction for 60 years so I know when something is well built and well thought out. 466521

Overall, this rack is stable and secure. Two design issues that I have not loved have been the weight and the inability for it to stay folded up. I use a strap to address that. Since purchase, the wheel tray has not locked in place in 2 out of 4 places. Something is not right there. For the cost, I would have expected better quality. 653987

2016 Mazda 3

I got this rack for my 2016 Mazda 3(sedan) and it fits great. The bikes I put on it are BMX Racing bikes(about 20lbs each). I like how easy it is to install and remove the rack, and the locking system is awesome. The reason I got this rack over the Raceway Pro was because the platform keeps the tires from moving(which is useful when you put more than one bike on the rack). 517873

A year later and I havent had any problems from the bike rack. I recently got a new car Mazda 6, and the rack still fits because of its adjustability.

2012 Toyota Camry

Okay I was impressed with the fit on my 2012 Camry SE. Fits like a glove. I was skeptical about the fit on my car especially the weight on the bumper. With the adjustable cables there is no concern. Most of the weight is distributed in the cables at the edges of the trunk. The bike is clamped perfectly to the rack. I looked at other models which had several reports of rusted parts. The Thule is very sturdy construction and no parts to rust. So many options. I especially like the swivel clamps which fits perfectly to the slope of my mountain bike. Spend the extra money and protect your bike and vehicle. You get what you pay for. 230999

My review after one year of owning this product has not changed. I really like this product. I use the bike rack on my car at least twice weekly and really enjoy the ease of installing and removing. I do have some concerns that over time the arms used to secure the bike to the car may wear down and break. They are made out of plastic and that concerns me. Also the rubber straps for the wheels may cause a problem by tearing from repeated uses. The fact that you took the time to follow up speaks volumes about the character of your company. Thanks

Do you have a question about this Trunk Bike Rack?

  • Recommended Best Womens Bike Carrier Versus Hanging Bike Carrier
  • The Yakima HangOut 3 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # Y02638 and similar hanging style racks are not ideal for women's bikes simply due to the frame design without a top frame tube. Because of this, manufacturers came up with the adapter bar like the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar # Y02531 to fit under the seat and connect to the handlebars creating that top frame tube to allow you to transport the bike level and with necessary ground clearance. • The Thule Raceway PRO 2-Bike Platform Rack part # TH9003PRO which is a fit for your 2014 Volkswagen Passat (sedan only) is my favorite trunk mounted bike rack. The reason for this is because it is one of a kind in that it gives you a platform style without having to install a trailer hitch. It also will not require any adapters for alternative frame bikes.
