Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Passage Fit Dial system

The Thule Passage offers an affordable, safe way to transport two bikes without a hitch. The Passage mounts to the rear of your Dodge Grand Caravan with six integrated straps and Thule's patented Fit Dial system, which adjusts the rack base to ensure a snug fit.

The Passage includes cushioned anti-sway cradles with Thule's No-Sway Cage accessories to prevent bike-to-bike contact during transport. The anti-sway cradles also keep your bikes from making contact with the Dodge Grand Caravan.

The carrier's dual support arms provide stability for your bikes during transit, and the arms conveniently fold down when not in use for additional rear clearance and easy storage.

Video Transcript for Thule Passage 2 Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Test Course

Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side-to-side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up-and-down action. This will be just like driving out of a parking lot, parking garage, or driveway. .

2013 Dodge Grand Caravan

I just assembled it and put it on my Dodge Grand Caravan last night. Took about a 5 mile ride with it this morning to see how it was doing. Seems to be fine. I've tightened all straps as tight as possible. The side clips seem to have a little play along the sides of the hatchback door but everything appears and seems to be solid. Even with the straps tightened all the way, you can still move/pull on them a bit, because they are nylon, so even though they seem to be secure now, I will check them at different intervals to see if they are retaining their hold. The sway bar option was a nice addition and I also cut some Velcro straps to tie down both wheels and the handle bars from swinging. Another nice surprise was that I was still able to open my rear van door with the bike rack attached. I would say, all in all, this is a great sturdy design and as long as I use due diligence to watch for any loosening of the straps over time, I should be just fine! 216686

Comments

One year later and no problems at all. I think the longest distance I have traveled with the bike on the rack has been about 25-30 miles, mostly around to local biking areas. I may be taking it a few hundred miles down the road coming up in the future as their are some out of state locations I want to go to. I will not hesitate to do this or worry about any issues since this rack has shown itself to be so dependable. I usually leave it on the van for a few months at a time and when I have had to remove it and put it back on, it has been quite easy and fast. After having the rack on for a long period the rubber foam cushions can get pretty flattened where they sit up against the window and back of the van, The foam will reform back out about 25 of where it was flattened to, so probably at some point I may need to replace that foam but other than that I have no complaints and have been extremely satisfied with this product.

2011 Ford Edge

Ordered online, it shipped the same day. Received it 3 days later. There is a little assembly, but, pretty simple. It took me less than 15 minutes to install and no tools were needed. It is adjustable to be used on many different auto types, but, the instructions were very clear about how to adjust it to fit my 2011 Ford Edge. I have used it twice so far to transport my bike. There are a couple of items that are inherent in the design, not a flaw, but, you need to be aware of them. First, you can't use rear window wipers. Second, the back-up alarm goes nuts because it registers a bike less than 6 inches behind you (I tolerate it for the few seconds it takes to back out of my driveway or out of a parking lot). Third, there is a little flexibility, it is held on with straps and clamps, not bolts, so, it bounces a little when you go over bumps or make sharp turns, however, it holds the bike fast to the frame and stays on the car. I use mine to transport my bike on short trips around town to bike trails. On a long trip I would suggest checking that the straps remain tight from time to time during the drive. 173351

I have a 2013 Edge. Have you had any problems with the rear spoiler. I am scared it might crack or get damaged. Any problems or concerns since you have been using the rack? Thanks,Bryan

Outstanding bike rack for the price. Clear setup manual, parts do not feel cheap, works exactly like it is supposed to. Put my bike on it, did not even hear a sound of parts struggling keep up the weight. No squealing, no scratching noise at all. One thing to look for is when you tighten the straps with no bike on, make sure you tighten the side and bottom ones again after you place the bike on, as they will come loose as top straps will be holding all the weight. And be ready to sacrifice using your rear wiper since you will not be able to. One thing I wish it came with would be some kind of small Velcro fasteners to secure the loose ends of the straps with. But I just did with duck tape, works just fine, too. Also, outstanding customer service from etrailer folks! 428629

I bought this product for a 2013 PriusC, and to hold a 2016 Giant Stance 2. I'll list the pros and cons. Pros: - etrailer had great videos for how to put the rack on the car, and the performance of the rack while driving - assembly was easy, and nothing was damaged in the box - It fit on the car nicely (use setting 9 for same make and model as mine), and once the straps were tightened properly (watch the video!) it was nice and secure - the extra strap for securing the front wheel was handy Cons - my bike fits, but not as well as I had hoped. The cups which hold the frame of the bike are WAY better suited for skinnier frames like those of road bikes - some components on the rack could be a litter nicer quality (buckles on the top straps are nice and metal, but the ones for the side and underside and plastic, also, the foam pads could be a little more substantial) - essentially takes the functionality from your hatch, but that is to be expected, and it is so lightweight, that you can easily take it on and off Overall I am happy with the choice, it was more affordable and easy to assemble/install that other options, however I wish some of the components were slightly upgraded, and that the cups were slightly wider to accommodate most mountain bike models. Thule also has a warranty for the rack so that will cover any defects. 385470

2010 Subaru Forester

I’ve had the Thule bike rack for about three weeks now and have the following comments: 1. Order and delivery from etrailer was extremely great as I received the item within a few days of ordering. 2. Assembly of the bike rack was very easy and took a very short period of time. The instructions provided with the item were easy to follow. The online video on assembling and mounting the rack is also very good should you want to also follow that to ensure you did everything correctly. 3. The bike rack was mounted on a 2010 Subaru Forester and fit very well. It is secure and you can easily open and close the hatchback with the bike rack installed without the rack becoming loose. I’ve had the rack mounted the whole time and have had no issues with it becoming loose. 4. With a bike mounted on the rack, the bike is held very secure by the three straps and does not move around too much with the key being to secure the front tire to the bike frame using the enclosed strap. I’ve only traveled on city streets with bumps and turns so far with the bike mounted, but don’t anticipate any issues with high speed travel on the interstate due to the solid build of the rack and the way it secures a bike in place. Overall I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to others. 544653

The package looked as though it had been used as a soccer ball (see pictures). Fortunately, the rack seems to be in good condition. Key word "seems". Another thing, I ordered on a Tuesday evening with 3-day shipping (which cost extra). It was shipped at around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday according to an email. So I'm thinking I'm going to get it Friday. Makes sense. 3-Day, shipped Wednesday early (day 1). Should be here Friday (day 3). No such luck. Another email stated that because of the holiday it wouldn't arrive until Tuesday September 5th. I won't be ordering from this company again. 430012

Will the Thule TH910XT for the 2011 Camry accommodate a womens bike?

-- comment by: Sandy - 09/02/2013

2008

Yes it will, but it will probably need an adapter bar. Without an adapter bar, the bike either will not fit, or will sit far off balance like in the picture from Melony. An adapter bar provides a full size, level tube from which to hang the bike. Thule offers one, it is part TH982XT.

Yaay it works!!! Be prepared to spend at least an hour or so setting up for the first time. The instructions were pretty good but it still takes some effort and definitely make sure that you check the back section of the manual to see what setting will work for your specific car. My only complaint really is that there are no instructions for the anti-sway cage piece, I have ideas of what to do with it...but I'm not 100% sure. The bikes were stable without it though. Once we finally figured out what to do it worked great, didn't hear any movement, bikes seemed very sturdy. I haven't been on the highway with it yet but I think it's going to be fine. My only concern is that someone could easily steal the bike rack as the hooks just slide out so it might be a pain to keep taking it off each time you take your bikes off. I will have to update my review when I have more experience with the product. But so far so good! I don't see any scratches on my car and I think it will stay that way if I'm careful. What a relief to find a product that works for my car, now I can go on biking adventures! 331069

Subaru Crosstrek

I just installed the bike rack on my crosstrek this morning to check the fit and it’s quite good. I mounted my bike and drove around my neighborhood to see just stable the rack was with my bike and it was quite stable. I’m looking forward to taking my bike to the nearest bike trail. 458749

Good product that folds when not in use, but I don't like the side and bottom straps. They are not separate straps and they use a much poorer design compared to the top 2 straps to tighten them down. Top 2 straps use a simple unlock with thumb, pull to tighten, then release thumb and automatically locks straps in place. Side and bottom straps are a loop through design and require you to pull and tug on the other end to tighten. Also top straps when using the clamps on the trunk pulls it too far up causing about a finger gap. So I re-read the instructions and choose to re-route the strap through the clamp to go under the trunk like a support. That prevents my trunk from excessive gap. I had already contacted etrailer for a return but found out the return shipping alone was almost the cost of the product so I decided to keep it and use it for the time being. So either get a different design trunk rack, or just go with a hitch. Its better that way. I just swapped mines out for a hitch considering the price of the hitch is similar and more sturdy. 134157

Thank you for the comment Qhua! If you do experience any difficulty in mounting the carrier with the top hooks, as you mentioned you can re-route the top clips to be used as a in clip this is our Versa-Clip design that will allow for multiple mounting methods. We also appreciate your feedback on the strap design. As the top straps are the most load bearing, we have used a different tensioning system to ensure trouble free operation. Thanks again!

2009 Volkswagen CC

The e-trailer service is exceptional. I had trouble mounting this rack on my 09 VW CC and they provided technical assistance. Due to the fit issue I returned the rack and purchased a hitch mount set-up. They were very helpful in assisting with the return and alternate purchase. In this age of poor internet customer service they are great. If it is not right they will work with you on a good solution. 120397

I just returned from a 3 week vacation where two small bikes were attached with my cruiser bike on the rack. It worked fantastically well. It is easy to attach to the van and is tightly secured. Putting the straps around and under the spoiler was a great idea on your part. This is a great bike rack for the Dodge Grand Caravan 2013! Chrysler Town & Country

Like many others, impressed by the information on the site and the speed in processing / shipping my order. Loved seeing the video demo of how to install on our Town and Country. After I received it, I was initially frustrated as even with the Bike Adapter Bar (TH982XT) I couldn't seem to get both bikes on the rack and have decent clearance from the ground -- my test was to drive out of our drive way and if a bike wheel hit the pavement when dropping off the curve they weren't high enough. I was also initially frustrated with the spacing between the bikes. I was contemplating whether to return or not, and after I realized you could adjust the spacing between the bike straps on the arms. This allowed me to make the adjustment necessary in bike spacing to have them both fit fairly easily. I did have to adjust seat height on both bikes to get the fit right...looking forward to actual test in a couple weeks when we take the bikes camping. 150291

Made a last minute decision to purchase this bike rack so that my daughter would have more room in her SUV for a move to Charlestown, SC. As promised by Kelly, it arrived the evening before her departure with only a $7 or so 2- day delivery charge. Although a little concerned, it was at my house in a little over 48 hours. Had a little issue with the mount due to the bike's unusual frame, but the design of the rack and the accessories provided more than allowed for a successful and safe installation. Wish I had a pix of her SUV loaded with the roof bag on top, the bike on the rear and just enough room for her to slide into the car. But she's already in her new home with a bike rack for future use that loaded so securely that it barely moved when I pulled on it. As an added measure, I did velcro the wheels to the bike frame to immobilize any extraneous movement. This is a quality product that is very reasonably priced. 149784

The product arrived in very quick time. However, one of the locking spring loaded pins refused to pop out to its locked position. After about a half hour of fiddling it finally popped out as it should have. It is installed in a 2014 Rav 4 XLE and fitted well. I have yet to take it for a test run. The side straps are secured to the back glass window and hopefully will be O.K. It did take quite a bit of adjusting to fit the two bikes as they do not have normal cross bars. 241703

Just returned from a bike-trip using the Thule Passenger2 for the 1st time. It is the best bike rack that I have ever owned. It is easy to install, all parts are covered to protect your car from scratching, and held the 2-bikes "rock-solid". Awesome product. 407371

Mercury Milan

The Thule Passage bike carrier was exactly what I was looking for. It is the perfect size for 2 adult bikes. The rack is easy to setup and fits on to my Milan securely. My boyfriend helped me the first time but it is simple enough for me to put it on my car alone. The last time I ordered a bike carrier online it was big and bulky. Once I had everything out of the box and started to put it altogether, I found a paper at the bottom of the box saying that model did not fit 3 vehicles and one was mine. I was a little discouraged and now apprehensive when ordering another rack. But this carrier was exactly what it said it was and there were no surprise papers at the bottom of the box. Great choice if you're looking for a carrier for 1 or 2 bikes. 81310

A clamp-on adapter bar should do the trick. It attaches to the handle bars and the seat post to provide that flat bar. I have added links to Thule's bar, part # TH982XT

At first I had high hopes when I revived a personalized looking email that my package had been shipped early. When the package arrived it had no secondary box. I literally came home to a Thule box sitting on my porche with a shipping label slapped on the box. No packing beans or anything. The box had been dented in on the right corner, ussualy I would blame this on ups. But ETRAILER decided to ship my package with absolutely no protection whatsoever. To add to insult to injury as I unboxed the unit I found that the the plastic buckle was broken yielding my bike rack useless and unsafe.. to add piss to the grave they are not responding to my emails regarding setting up a return. I'm not trying to slander this company, I'm just posting my exact experisnace. I hope they can at least respond to my email for a return.. 437405

I purchased this for use on my '08 Prius. It arrived a day before the promised delivery day. Before installation I watched the etrailer install video and read the instruction booklet. The suggested setting for my vehicle was slightly off from what I chose (same thing happened in the etrailer video). After installation I loaded up my bike and headed over to a favorite riding site. The rack was securely strapped to my car. I didn't see any shifting or reason for concern, even at highway speeds. I am going to get several Velcro straps to secure the portions of the straps that are not needed. I also will strap the tires and fork to the frame. I just don't like to have the tires spinning or the fork swiveling when hauling my bike. The customer service rep, Izzy, was terrific. World class service !! 233585

After a bad experience with a previous bike rack in high winds (not a Thule), we were very leery about bike racks. This one passes every test! 2018 BMW X1

So far so good. I have 2018 BMW X1. With minor adjustments from recommended fit for 2017 X1 I was able to get a secure and snug fit. Apparently on the 2017 X1 the lower arm should fit into the Bottom of license plate well with arms in position 9. On the 2018 X1, there isn’t enough space below the plate for the arm. It ends up resting on the lower edge of the well instead. I tried opening the arms wider, but that created too much pressure on the rear spoiler. Same problem when I tried decreasing arm width. So, I left adjustment on 9 setting as recommended and tightened straps down. Put my bike on it and off I went on some pretty bumpy terrain. No movement at all. The six point securing system really keeps it snug and secure. 548504

Comments

I just wanted to mention that a trunk-mounted bike rack isnt meant to be used in an off-road situation. The extra jarring and bouncing would expose the rack to stresses that it wasnt designed to withstand. If used on bumpy pavement or gravel roads, its recommended to keep to a slow speed to minimize any bouncing.

The rack is used for police bike patrol and overall is satisfactory for this duty. My only issues are the straps that hold the rack to the vehicle have a tendency to loosen up during cornering and need to be tightened at least twice during a shift. Also where the bars that hold the bike attach to the rack itself seem a bit "fragile". I'm sure this is because they can be turned down to lessen space when a bike is not on it. I understand we use this item a little more roughly than your usual customer and at times need to drive a little more aggressively. On a positive note, I am able to quickly attach and detach the bike and haven't had it fall off over the past year. I hope this helps. I am pleased with the rack overall. 402828

I was a little skeptical about how the rack would work because of the low price point but figured Thule always makes good products so went ahead and purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to put it together quickly and install it on my car easily. It took a couple tries to figure out the best way to mount the two bikes because of the frame sizes but once I got the system down, it worked great. Must admit I had one eye glued to the rear-view mirror on the first drive but everything stayed put and didn't loosen up. The rack is particularly nice if you aren't very tall as you are mounting it to the back rather than struggling to get the bikes on top of the car. 206248

2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Am a casual user of this bike rack and have been very impressed with the ability to fit many styles of vehicle due to its adjustable design. It installs easily and quickly. I have only used it for short local trips but the securing straps' clips seem to do a good job of not damaging the car though they grasp the edges of the trunk/hatch door. The rack seems to better fit bikes with more "open" adult-size frames, because bikes with tight corner angles in the frame or smaller kids' bikes have a hard time fitting over the rubber frame mounting pads. If there was a way to adjust the lateral distance between the frame mounts it would allow these bikes to fit better. 538621

For Womens bikes or bikes with oddly shaped frames, a frame adapter bar like # 64005
Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes
$23.95
works great. The adapter spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, providing a level surface to mount the bike to the rack.

Hi Jennifer,I have purchased the same vehicle and noticed you placed the clips on top of the spoiler and on the edges of the glass - Doesnt the weight the bikes brought down the little spoiler at the top of the glass?

A great product! I was really nervous about transporting our old bikes 1200 miles to Cape Cod and back. My wife researched carriers and bought the Thule TH910XT. What a great product! Well designed and very well built. The initial installation takes less than a half hour as you need to adjust everything and get the feel of it - after that, it takes about 5 minutes -tops to put on the car! It's tight and secure.and the bikes locked down really well. I felt really comfortable with the bikes on the rack after a while. This is definitely one of the best products I have ever bought! Have no fear! Do it! 148248

I give it 3 stars due to the fact I can only put one bike on my 2 bike holder. I have tried numerous times to load 2 bikes but it was impossible. It won't work because it looks as though the bikes would damage each other also the mounts don't move. The paper said the mounts would turn on the post that it sets on but mine won't. Even had my husband try to move them but no such luck. I even watched the videos but they only show the bikes on the rack not how to mount them. As for mounting on my Pathfinder it is easy and I feel like my bike is secure. This is a very good product for (ONE) bike only! 418838

2007 Chevy Cobalt

Perfect rack for cars with factory spoiler! I have a '07 Chevy Cobalt and the rack easily clears the spoiler. Fast, simple to install. Took New York roads (including back roads which=hills, twists, pot holes, squirrels), without changing my aggressive driving. Had to give it a real good test. No swaying, nothing came loose, it was like the bike was bolted to the car. I used extra long straps to stabilize wheels, so they don't spin or rock. Nothing touched my bumper or trunk lid. Everything on rack that touches car is rubbery or rubber coated. VERY satisfied...and very affordable. 43501

I am new to mountain biking (well was last year when I bought this) and I picked up this bike rack so my son and I could get to the trails. This rack is simple to set up (even the first time for a first time bike rack owner) and is really sturdy. I fit 2 full size mountain bikes on here easily and have never had an issue. I received an email after 1 year of ownership to check in on how everything was going with my purchase. Usually, companies forget about you weeks after the purchase...this was a classy move by a company who clearly stands behind their products. 459166

2010 Chevy Equinox

Was fairly easy to figure out and put together. Mounting it to my 2010 Exuinox was a little time consuming doing it alone, but all in all it was worth the time. Held our two bikes very well. I would recommend this product to others looking for a more economical way to transport bikes other than having to install a receiver that hitches to a bike rack. 180118

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Installation the first time was a bit tricky, but once we got it installed correctly subsequent installs went very smoothly. The rack is very sturdy and we were able to anchor the bikes so they had very little sway. If given a do-over, I would consider ordering a 3-bike rack to hold 2-bikes and have a little more "wiggle room" to position handlebars, seats, etc. --- but all in all this was a good purchase and is a very solid bike rack. I recommend an adapter bar if you have a women's style bike, and the security strap is always a good idea. 495690

2015 Hyundai Sonata

I ordered the Thule TH910XT trunk mount bicycle carrier for my 2015 Hyundai Sonata and it fits great! It comes in handy when I bike far away from home, on vacation or bringing the bike in for repair. It easily folds up and fits neatly in the trunk if so desired. It sets up quickly, holds the bike snug and keeps it from swaying back and forth towards the license plate which keeps the pedals away from the car. It holds another bike if desired and keeps the bikes from hitting each other. Great product...I'm glad I found it on etrailer.com. 157179

2010 Honda Pilot

The product is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone. The one thing that made it a little difficult is my wife's bike does not have a crossbar and that made it very difficult connecting it. With a lot of effort, we were finally able to get it connected, and it was a little tougher on the return trip but it held the bikes in place. I later found out that the company does have an adapter for the type of bike I had problems with. I wish this would have been displayed as a possible alternative, depending on one's bike. 555286

Womens bike frames have a slanted crossbar and in order for the bike to hang level on the bike rack you will need an adapter bar such as part # 64005

$23.95
. This Swagman deluxe bike frame adapter gives the bike a horizontal crossbar to hang from.

The bike rack was straightforward to put together, and is smallish and light. The first time putting it on my car was a little awkward, but the second time was easy. I also like how it comes with a separate strap for stabilizing the bikes (I used to use bunjee cords for this). Whatever you do, if you open the rear door while the bike rack is on it, make sure you remember that yes, the bike rack is still on the door when you close it and get out of the way, or you'll get banged on the head *really* hard. 222240

The Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier, # TH910XT, will fit on a Ford Escape. It has a weight capacity of 70 lbs. and attaches to the vehicle by six straps for added stability.. You will basically loop the nylon covered steel strap around the frame of the rack to form a slip knot and then would close the puck of the strap in the trunk so that the only way to fully separate the rack from the vehicle would be to open the trunk. Another option is the Thule Raceway trunk rack part # TH9001PRO. All of the straps...
