The DeeZee Way

DeeZee's commitment to "add more life to your truck" is reflected in the design of this Blue Label toolbox, which boasts a number of features that will make your life easier and maximize the life of your toolbox.

DeeZee's toolboxes consist of a 1-piece front, back and bottom with welded ends, which provides maximum strength and durability

Designed for Durability

One piece of Brite-Tread aluminum with welded ends makes up the body of this toolbox. By minimizing the amount of welding that goes into the box's construction, DeeZee diminishes the opportunity for cracks and leaks to form, thereby reducing the risk of toolbox corrosion and damage to your stored items. An automotive-grade rubber bulb seal offers maximum protection from water, and a patent-pending Alumaguard body channel bolsters the aluminum and helps to prevent warping. Full V-pan stiffeners reinforce the rigidity of the lid.

DeeZee's Blue Label toolboxes include push-button latches for easy opening and closing

Easy Opening and Closing

All Blue Label toolboxes are ergonomically designed with locking push-button latches, gas shocks and adjustable lid strikers. The push-button latches and gas shocks allow you to access this toolbox from either side of your truck with minimum effort. Simply push one of the buttons and the gas shocks automatically open the lid, so you can get into the toolbox even with both hands full. Integrated locks deter theft of your belongings. To reveal the hidden lock-and-key assembly, slide the cover of the push button upward. The toolbox includes self-centering latches, and adjustable lid strikers can be customized according to your preference. Just loosen the locknut on the striker pin and adjust the pin (horizontally or vertically) for perfect closure every time, no matter how hard you shut the lid.

Video Transcript for DeeZee Blue Label Crossover Truck Bed Toolbox Review

Today, we'll be doing a demo of the DeeZee Blue Label Truck Bed Tool Box in the aluminum crossover style with 12.8 cubic feet capacity, part number DZ9170. Now, let's go ahead and go over a few features of our DeeZee Blue Label truck box. As you can see here, it's got Brite-Tread aluminum covering the whole box. There's also an ergonomic push button latch. By simply pushing a button, it opens the lid and opens up both latches. The same ergonomic push button is on both ends of the box and you can open it from either end.

Here on the other end of the box you'll also notice that there's a cover right here that just simply flips up that gives you access to your lock. The box does come with two keys. Both ends of the box lock are key to the exact same key. Now, to lock the box, you will actually need to lock both ends. If you only lock one end, you can still open the box. Now, you can see here how we have this side of the box locked, the lid will not raise by pushing in the button.

It just sort of goes in and out freely. Now, let's go ahead and go over here to the other side of the box. Now we just saw that we've locked the other side of the box, but this side is not locked and you can still open the box. Now you have to remember if you want the box to actually be locked, you will need to actually lock both sides by simply using the key. This key is the same for both ends, put the key in the lock, turn it, put the cover back down, and now, the box truly is locked.

You can see here the box comes with this removable tool tray that does have a 10 pound max weight though. You can put a variety of tools, the holes here you can slide screwdrivers in them. It is completely adjustable from one end to the other or you can just completely take it out if you so choose. The box also comes with this liner mat. It is like a rubberized piece that does protect the bottom of the box as well as keeping things from sliding around in the bottom of your box. With the tool organizer removed, you have one large compartment area.

The compartment area is about 17 inches deep to the top edge where the lid that close. The main compartment area width-wise are about 60-1/2 inches wide. At the narrowest point of the center cargo area of the box, we're about 17-1/4 inches wide. Now, you'll also notice that there are two smaller little compartment area or smaller gear that maybe you don't want rolling around in the larger portion of the box. There's one on both ends pretty much exactly the same. There's one on this side as well as the other side. You'll also notice that this box has two latches that are fully adjustable. A striker pin here is adjustable up and down that will let you choose how tightly the lid will close down by simply moving it up or down as well as it can adjust side to side by loosening these and sliding it in the track. There's two of these, one on this side, as well as one over here on this side. Another feature here, the box lid has two gas struts or shocks that help control the movement of it when it goes up and down. There's one on this side as well as the other side. As you can see here, it doesn't allow the lid to slam, but yet also when you release it, it has a controlled opening so it doesn't just fly up. It also holds the lid up in position while you're getting down into the box. You see here underneath the lid, there's a smooth piece that has a dimple or ridge that goes inward. What this ridge right here does it actually strengthens the lid, so if weight was pushed down on it, it can push in. It actually gives some rigidity to the lid. Another nice feature about this box is it has a seal which is a water-tight seal that goes all the way around the lid, so that when the box lid is closed, it gives you a water-tight seal and also keeps dust and grime from getting inside the box. So the truck box comes with a foam strip. It's actually applied to the underside of the truck box so that you have a little protection between the truck box and the edge of your truck bed. We'll go ahead and center it up on our truck box and then, we'll peel the backing off and stick the foam strip underneath the truck box. We'll then go ahead and make sure that the adhesive fully sticks to the underside of the box keeping the foam strip in place, and we'll go ahead and repeat the same process over here on the other side of the box. Now that we've gone over this, let's go ahead and get a little help slide our truck box up into the bed of our truck. Now that we've got an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and slide our truck box up into place. Now that we have our truck box installed up in the bed, we'll need to center it from side to side. We haven't pushed far enough forward, so we'll go ahead and take a quick measurement. We're about four and a half inches on this particular application. Let's go ahead and make sure that we're about four and a half inches on the other side. Now that we've measured the other side, we'll come over here on the other side, we'll make sure that we're about the same distance, which we are about four and a half inches again for this particular application on this particular truck. Now, so we know exactly where we're going to drill our hole here . then go ahead and measure out about how far the box overhangs about two and a half inches. So we know that we need to drill our hole at least two and a half inches inward so that we don't hit the side of the bed rail, but yet, this also still allows it to hook underneath the edge of the bed rail. So you want to go ahead and measure the center of your box here. I want to put this J hook about center or about 21 inches. So we need to be about 10-1/2 inches in, which will put you right here where this little mockup 5:39 piece is. You want to simply just take your marker. You want to make a mark and you want to measure at least two and a half inches from this edge over this this way and put your mark. We'll do these for both sides and a good idea is not to trill it when it's actually up in the bed, but to scoot it 5:58 long way so that there's no change that you could accidentally drill into the side raid or your bed. To mount the truck box to your bed or your vehicle, we'll be using these J bolts. You can see here how they got a loop and this actually hooks underneath the edge of your bed. So the only drilling required is actually one small hole on either side of the box and go head and take our 3/8 drill bit which is the same size as our J hooks. We'll go ahead and drill out a hole. Now here's how the hardware will go on once our J bolt installed in the box. You can see here how the J hook hooks underneath the edge of the underside of the bed rail as it goes through the box. Take our flat washer, followed by our lock washer . finally, our hex nut. We'll then go ahead and tighten it down so that to make sure that the J Portion hooks underneath the side of your bed. Once that's tightened down we'll use a inaudible 6:56 and then we'll put our rubber cover back on top of it. So it will ultimately look just like this. Now, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process over here on the other side. Now, let's go ahead and we'll get a few additional measurements on the box. With the lid closed, we're approximately 21 inches wide from the outer edge of the lid to the outer edge of the lid in the width. With the lid open, we're approximately 20-1/2. So when the lid is closed, we gain about an inch of width. Now the height above your bed rail got about five inches with the lid open. With the lid in the closed position, we have about seven inches of height, overall height from the top of your bed rail to the top portion of the box. You'll see how it does raise up here just a little bit. Now, the overall length of the box, with the lid in the open position, approximately 70 inches. Now with the lid closed, the overall width is about 71 inches. So again, we gained about an inch of overall width with the lid closed. Now, let's go over a couple of other ones. How deep does the box hang down below the side of our bed We got about a foot or 12 inches is what our box hangs down below the bed rail here. The overall width of that section is about 61 inches. As you see here on the box, any seams that are on the box are actually fully welded and there is no rivets installed. So, by being fully welded like this, we do get a true water-tight seal. Now, the whole front here, the bottom . the back portion of this box right here, it's all one solid piece that's been formed. By doing this, it gives added rigidity and strength to the box. Now, both of the ends are actual separate pieces that are completely welded in by having the box built like this, the box is much stronger than your standard truck box. Another thing you want to keep in mind when mounting the box are before you actually secure it to your bed. Just want to make sure that there's enough clearance between the edge of the box and the edge of your cab that when you open the lid, there's plenty of room and it doesn't hit the back part of your cab. As you can see here in this case, we're all the way up against the front portion of the bed and yet, there's still plenty of room for the box lid to open fully. And with that, that will conclude our demo of the DeeZee Blue Label Truck Bed Tool Box in the aluminum crossover style with 12.8 cubic feet capacity, part number DZ9170. .
