A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

how will tork lift tie downs look on my truck

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

how to find the right tie down for my truck - custom camper tiedown

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

  • Compatible TorkLift Tie-Downs For A 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty Dually With 8' Bed
Since you indicated that your 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty Dually has an 8 Foot Bed with a board or step underneath the truck bed with a factory installed hitch the TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Front # TLF4006 and TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Rear # TLF3004 you referenced would be a compatible fit. These two are the only compatible TorkLift options for your vehicle. You will also need some turnbuckles to secure your truck bed camper to your tie-downs....

When installing the TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Front # TLF2011, you will not disconnect the emergency brake cable. You will go underneath the emergency brake cable with the driver's side bracket. You will need to make sure you work the emergency brake cable through each of the slots on the bracket to make sure it sits in place properly. I have attached a video illustrating the installation, the emergency brake cable is referred to at the 6:40 mark.

  • What Size are the Inner and Outer Tubes and Wall Thickness of TorkLift Camper Tie Downs
The TorkLift camper tie downs you referenced, # TLF2011 and # TLF3001 will have an outer assembly and an inner assembly. Tie down # TLF3001A will too but it has aluminum components. The measurements will be the same for all of these. I pulled # TLF2011 to take the measurements. The inner tube is smaller, 1-1/2 inches square with a wall thickness of 3/16 of an inch. The part of the inner tube that you tie the camper off to is 1/4 inch thick. The outer tube is larger at 2 inches square...

  • Is The B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver Compatible With TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs
Hey Greg, The rear tie-downs for the TorkLift Tie Downs # TL93VV slide into the crosstube of the trailer hitch to mount. With the B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver # BWHDRH25230's crosstube angling back there's a chance that the tie-downs would hit the exhaust or other components under the vehicle. Since these haven't been tested together yet I recommend going with TorkLift's aftermarket trailer hitch tie-down # TLR3500 instead. This is going to mount to the side of the # BWHDRH25230's...

Rather than trying to pull the bolt, star washer and plate washer through the frame as one unit, attach the bolt to the fish wire, then slip the plate washer and star washer on the fish wire, but don't slide them all the way down through so they're on the bolt. Fish the wire through to the other side of the frame, and use a flat blade screwdriver to push the star washer into place, then the plate...

  • Installation Help for Truck Bed Camper on to My 1999 Ford F-250
From my research I found that the recommended clearance between your truck cab and the overhang of your truck bed camper is at least 1 1/2". You can put something in the bed of your truck to raise the camper, the idea I like the best is the high density foam insulating board. This will give some added height and will not be heavy to move around. You can pick those up at your local hardware store. Once you put a piece or two of the foam boards in the bed of your truck, you will be able...
