Use your foot to lower this spring-loaded step from beneath your vehicle's rear bumper to easily access gear in the bed. The step bolts on without drilling, retracts under your truck for storage and works with your tailgate open or closed.Great product! I call it my "old man step". When the tailgate is down on my Tundra, it was difficult to climb in and out of the bed. This step did the trick. It took me about an hour to install. It looks good and folds away neatly.
The step works as advertised. The mounting bolts are a easy to remove but you have to reinstall them on a blind.
This is my second truck with this step installed in the back. They have been very helpful with getting into the bed of the truck. I have had many people come up to me with the first truck and ask about them. I installed the step the day it was delivered.
Product is great!
Instructions were precise but I chose to not follow them as directed. I modified the bumper bracket & reinstalled it to maintain maximum strength. It would have been better if they had given the customer the option of modifying the bracket instead of “storing it for future use.” By modifying the bracket in place, several steps could be eliminated and the customer would maintain a stronger bumper.
Also, I was disappointed the etrailer did not let me know that product was not in stock before ordering. The process did keep me informed when item was expected, when it was shipped and delivered.
Thank you for a great product.
Often when purchasing items that have vehicle-specific requirements for installation I am a bit skeptical everything will fit and be as easy as the reviews. This step was much easier than expected to install and works like a charm. Thanks for the speedy delivery.
2 bolts out and put them back in and adjust the position of the step and it is installed. It works great. To me, worth everthing I paid for it. Great service from eTrailer and quick delivery. I highly recommend the item and the seller.
Easy to install and works good. Should be a big help and I won't need to take a step stool.
Just what I needed. Love it.
Fast delivery and easy installment! A great product!
Great product
I installed this step on a 2020 Tundra Double Cab. I really like the step. Although it looks a bit strange when retracted because it does not sit level, it is level when extended. It extends and retracts easily, and is very useful for getting into the truck bed.
HOWEVER, installation is NOT easy. I did not experience the problems some reviewers have mentioned with wires for the sonar running through the bumper support bracket that has to be removed. All my wires were routed around the perimeter of the bracket. But, the plastic bumper caps have to be removed to access two bolts for removal of the bracket. Undoubtedly, Toyota has a special service tool (SST) to release the plastic clips that attach the bumper caps to the bumper, but releasing them with a flat-blade screwdriver as suggested in the instructions is VERY difficult, and lends itself to breaking the tabs on the clips. (I broke 2). The clips are integral to the bumper cap, so they are not separately replaceable!
My project was 4.5 hours! not the 30 minutes stated in the instructions, and I'm not a mechanical moron. Most of my time and frustration was with removal of the bumper support bracket. Actual attachment and adjustment of the step was straightforward. I did use the spacers for a bit of extra clearance to guard against rattles. The instructions do need a little bit of enhancement/update as there are a few minor errors, but those are easy to figure out and work around.
All told, now that my installation is behind me, I am satisfied with the step. Just don't plan for this to be the quick and simple installation project you see in some YouTube videos. I'm sure they are accurate for some truck makes, but not the Tundra.
The biggest problem I ran into on the install was, I had to cut away a big part of my reinforcement on the back of the bumper extension.
If I didn't have the background that I have, this would've been a real pain.
This is NOT just a bolt on part.
The step on the other hand works great.
Useful accessory if you're a short fella and constantly jumping in & out of the truck bed.
A little disappointed that when retracting the spring loaded step, it slams against the bumper, even after using all the spacers. A foam backed adhesive strip will protect the bumper from scratches.
I love the product and the service I received from Bryan W. at etrailer.com, but the installation instructions from the manufacturer, Bestop were incomplete and out-of-date!!
First, the instructions state the installation time will be 1/2 hour. Wrong! Add 4 more hours to that. Skill level was listed as "1"--easy. Wrong again! I would put it at "4". I had to use a metal cutting saw, impact socket wrench along with a variety of other tools not listed in the instructions to complete the installation (the socket sizes were completely wrong!). The most challenging and time consuming part was removing the large bumper support bracket. The manufacturer didn't update the instructions to account for the bumper's radar sensors. Those sensors have an electrical wiring harness that weaves through the bumper bracket! Not around or behind it, but THROUGH THE STINKIN' BRACKET!!! So, once you get the support bracket loose--unless you can perform a magic trick similar to the "connecting rings"--you have to use a metal cutting saw and cut a one inch gap so you can slide the bracket off of the wiring harness!!
Once that has been removed, you have to use an impact socket wrench to loosen the bumper bolts. There is no way you can do that without a this tool.
This was a very difficult installation. Had I been able to review the instructions ahead of time, I never would have purchased it.
Once the installation was complete, however, I really enjoy the step. It works as described. It's just the instructions are by no means complete and up-to-date for newer model Tundra trucks!!!
Bought this step to replace one that was broken backing up to a trailer. After it was broken, it didn't take long to realize we needed to order another one. I recommend it to everyone who asks about it, which is often.
Have had the step for a year now, use it multiple times per week. Very nice addition to my Toyota. Found good videos online to assist in the assembly and it went without a hitch. Now my old butt can much more easily climb into the bed of the truck!
Great product. Took about 2 hour to finish including the "figure - out" and "adjustment". All the bolts and pieces are there. Bolt straight on. Instruction can be a little more detail tho. Including how much torque is needed for each bolts and what not.
The product itself is well built, but this installation was far from easy as described. Estimated installation time according to the instructions was 30 minutes. It took me over an hour of disassembly just to get to the point where I could start the product installation. Not helping matters was the fact that the instructions did not match the 2014 Toyota Tundra that I was installing the product on. Once the existing support brackets were removed, the installation was straight forward and took me about 30 minutes to complete the install. Overall the entire project took me 1 3/4 hours.
Product functions as advertised, but the installation was far from easy.
Pretty easy installation if you have a lift. Not so easy lying on your back on a concrete floor. I needed a 3rd spacer to make it fit right, but it wasn't included so I'll have to make one from scrap. I thought the step would be secure in the stowed position, but it bounces against the bottom of the bumper. I'll probably add a piece of rubber to the bumper to keep it quiet. In summary a very sturdy step and works as advertised.
I love it!!! It was very easy to install. I wish it had washers for the 3 small bolts, but that's minor. My co-worker saw the step and he's going to order one for his truck.
I installed the step on my 2013 Toyota tundra. You need to remove two bumper mount bolts to install the step and they are TIGHT. I am an old guy so I used a breaker bar with a slide pipe over it for more leverage. I am very happy my new step.
It took 2 old guys a little over a 6 pack to install it.
The bumper step was shipped in 3 days. It is built well and I installed it in less than 30 minutes.
I love this step for getting into my Tundra. It took my husband 1.5 hours to install with help from me.
I used it today for the first time and I was thrilled to be able to get into the back of the truck with ease. I am right at 5 foot 8 inches and I'm 57 years old so I know as I get older this step will be even more of a bonus for me. :)
I would recommend this product especially for any ladies who drive a Tundra like I do and use the covered bed for a giant trunk.
This fit my 2020 tundra no problem . Just be careful of the plastic clips holding down the plastic bumper cover you have to remove. Shims provided were not needed, Fit perfect .HD, Seems like it should last .
I had this on a previous truck, I liked it better than the factory built step in the tailgate of my current Ford.
Recently ordered a new 2018 Toyota Tundra, therefore making this choice was easy.
