The rack fulfilled all expectations, was concerned about how it might affect vehicle stability, HANDLED GREAT !! I would suggest that the manufacturer add 2 more tie down eyes to the longer extention section, for convenience. Again, very satisfied. 296270

I’ve only just received this item so I can not give an opinion on functionality but it feels like a solid piece of equipment. I love that it can be disassembled for easy storage. It arrived on time. My only disappointment was that it did not contain a safety flag that it was supposed to come with. Aside from that, I would definitely still purchase this extender regardless. I have a short bed Dakota that Keeps me from starting any projects due to limited truck bed space for towing wood longer than 8 ft. I would buy from this company again. Blake 448455

The "Truck Extension" (mfgr's name for it) arrived today, in excellent condition. It's heavy - as it needs to be - & appears well-built. Both pins needed to use it were included, as shown in the product photo. It will be used on a F-150 Crew Cab (only a 5-1/2' bed) to haul longer lumber. The cross-bar is just enough over 10 feet out on my truck that I may drill another mount hole to move it in when needed. The welded loops on the cross-bar are spaced just about right to stabilize 4-foot wide sheets. A not-so-obvious nice feature: disassembled, the long bar slides inside the cross-bar, making it convenient to store and to haul when not in use. 268319

My problem was how to transport securely my 16' kayak in the 6.5' bed of my Toyota Tundra. Tne Darby "Extend-A-Truck" concept appealed to me and since the price was very reasonable, it was Made in USA and shipping paid, I bought one and it has proven to be "just what I needed". My kayak loads easily, is safe when mounted (I taped a 4' length of foam pipe insulation over the Extend-A-Truck" crosspiece to protect the hull) and is very secure in transit. I am very glad I bought this product. 159075

I use the Darby Extend-A-Truck hitch for hauling 2 kayaks. It works exactly as I wanted it to. I did shorten the square tube several inches and drilled new hole for the latch pin. 559628

Weve moved from hurricane targeted Florida to North Carolina. Looking forward to using the kayaks up here in rivers and lakes. The Darby Extend-A-Truck hitch up here as well. Very sturdy and will last forever.

Works great, though I wish the metal tubing was a little thicker and the ends inserted a little further inside the hitch receiver. This product is a must if you have a short bed truck and have any intention of carrying lumber or anything else longer than 8 feet. I was able to carry 12 foot 6x6s home without any issue. 627850

Delivery was fast and the product is as expected. This is great for my short bed truck with a hard cover. I carry a large tool box in the bed and other materials; I can use this to pick up lumber without have to empty the bed. For really long pieces, I can use it in conjunction with the roof luggage carrier. I can use bed high or hard cover high. Excellent product. 242634

Not much to say. Simple, minimal parts, heavily built. I dont use it much, but when I need it, its perfect. I have a hobby farm and use small numbers of long heavy lengths. With the extender I don't have to pay delivery or keep a beater truck running. The only down side is that my wife makes me wash her truck after i use it. 848250

  • Carrying Kayaks With 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 2 door Soft Top
I can help you find a kayak carrier with load assist for your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler. The Darby Extend-A-Truck part # DTA944 comes as a quantity of 1 but 2 can be purchased, one for a front hitch receiver and one for a rear hitch receiver like the photo you mentioned. The first Darby extender would pin into a front mount receiver on the front of the Jeep and the second Darby extender would pin into the rear hitch receiver. You could then put your kayak on top of the extenders and tie...

It extends 4' from your hitch and has a weight capacity of 400 lbs. I've added a link to a video review of this product for you to take a look at.

The Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender # DTA944 that you referenced can basically fit any vehicle with a 2 inch hitch like your 2003 Chevy Tahoe. Due to the crossbar design of the rack you would basically just be able to strap the boards to the bar since it doesn't use a standard crossbar. A better option would be the Thule Goalpost part # TH997 which uses a standard square crossbar that would allow a roof carrier to fit. The Thule SUP Taxi Stand-Up Paddleboard Carrier...

It doesn't have a receiver on the far end so you wouldn't be able to use it for a bike rack. If the steel tubes weigh 140 lbs all together then I would at least try to seperate them on the driver and passenger sides of the roof rack on your 2017 Honda CR-V. The best option for weight displacement would be to put them evenly across the width of your roof rack but that can be a little difficult. Should the steel tubes weigh 140 lbs each then you will not be able to carry them on the roof rack of your CR-V as that is 560 lbs. The Darby Extend-A-Truck # DTA944 will ultimately handle...

Canoes typically weigh less than 100 lbs, and the roof portion of the truck would only be bearing 1/2 the weight of the canoe. Your roof should handle it with no problem whatsoever.
