Video Transcript for Topline Truck Bed Mounted Expandable Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Topline Truck Bed Mountain Bike Racks. Available as a single or all the way up to a four-bike capacity rack. The part number we're using today is UG2500. This is the two-bike version. At the end of our main arm, at our first bike, we have a fully-articulating hand, that allows us to connect into the seat post or also onto the top frame tube of our bike. It's rubber padded on the inside, it's going to give us the protection that we need for our bikes, we're not going to get any kind of scuffs or scratches. Each of our arms are going to be a full aluminum arm, it's going to keep it nice and lightweight, but also stay very corrosion resistant, that way it's going to look good for a long time. The rack is designed to clamp right onto the bed rail of our pickup truck.

Just right underneath there has an eye bolt here that helps to hold this in place but also gives us a great connection point for our 74-inch long security cable. As you can see it comes with the rack, can easily be fed through our two bikes here, come back and make a connection point, securing both our frames and our tires to our truck. Now this is the two-bike setup, so we're going to have our one main long-arm and then we have an addition arm here in the middle. Now this is a two-bike rack, as you can see it's holding two-bikes, another one of this would then turn it into a three-bike and then one more of those would turn it into a four-bike for us. Giving us a lot of room to expand our rack based on our needs. Now that we've gone over the features, let me show you how to get this installed, as you can see we've got the large eye bolt here, we just want to loosen that up, that's going to allow what they call our clamp to come out. We want this to be loosen up to slide underneath the bed rail of our pick-up. You can see it's got a nice angle back so it's going to get a good grip on just that lip area.

We'll bring it up around the underside of the bed there, as you can see that's going to slide in right there and butt in nicely right up against the edge. Now, we do have our rubber gasket, now our rubber gasket should be installed right up here in the corner, just pull the tape off the back, stick it right into position. That helps it get a good grab on our bed rails. Once we've got it in position here, where we want it on our rail, we'll tighten up one of our nuts just a little bit there, to give us a little bit of space, and then we'll tighten our eye bolt down. We'll feel that make a good connection. Tighten an eye bolt down and then we need to run our second nut right down against that one and tighten it down. Tighten that down just slightly to make it a good solid jam nut, right up on there, it's holding in place great.

We're now going to grab our longer curved piece, slide that right into position here, andt hen we can tighten down that rack T handle slightly just to hold it in place for now. Then we can load up our bike, we'll undo the black, large black wing nut here, or knob, allow that to tilt down the way, and that will allow us to open up our clamp. We have our bike here in the bed of the truck, we're just going to bring it and fit this right around the seat post, what's great about this rack is whether you're securing it to the top frame to there or the seat post, it doesn't matter. You've got your options, the clamp is designed to fit a bar that's up to an inch and a half in diameter, so you want to keep that in mind, a lot of times, this tube is going to be a little bit wider than that so the seat post is going to be here in your top option there. Now we'll just tighten down the large nut here. Until that gets good firm hold on our bike. We're also going to take this opportunity to secure our front tire, this should be in the forward position, where just our rear tire, so we've got the weight sitting directly down. The strap will come up through the metal.

Back down or outside there. Let's give that a tug to secure it. Hold everything nice and steady as we're heading down the road. Now for loading of the second bike, we're bringing our add-on, open the clamp just like we did on the first one, put it around and then tighten it down around the seat too. While we're doing that, we can be loosening our other clamp up on the other end of our extension. With that nice and secure, let's grab our other bike. Now we'll just bring our clamp around our seat tube here on the second bike. Then just tighten it down after we slide that t-bolt back into the slot. Right, again just like the first bike we're going to secure it. Let's bringing our strap around the front tire, around the frame of the bike, and then around on the tag end through the end of the strap. Tighten that down. We've got our bikes loaded up. Now let's go ahead and secure these. Now our bike rack does come with a cable lock. Easy to use, as you can see it's a self coiling style, so when it's not in use, it's nice and Compact. What we'll do is just stretch our cable out here. Going to go around the frames of our bike that you choose, you can go down through the rims. Those are usually pretty expensive on these bikes, so good to secure that and we'll just bring the ends together, clip them in and we're set and ready to head down the road. Good shape, as you can see. Nice and solid. The bikes aren't going to be going anywhere. Let's go out and see how it fairs as we go through our test course. We'll start by doing this slow, this is going to show you the side to side movement of the rack, just like if we we're changing lanes or maybe doing some evasive maneuvers. Once we make our way around the corner, we'll get into a series of alternating speed bumps, this is going to show us really good twisting and torquing action. We'll now get into the solid speed bumps. This is going to simulate a big bump in the road or maybe entering and exiting a parking garage, a parking lot or maybe a driver way. That'll complete today's look at the Topline Truck Bed Mounted Two-bike rack. Part number UG2500, also available on a one-bike, three-bike and a four-bike. .

This bed mounted bike rack does exactly what I wanted it to do. It’s easy to install/uninstall and bike mounting is quick and easy. My large frame mountain bike fits snugly in my 5 1/2’ F150 bed. I can lock the bike and rack if I need to and remove the extension arm or whole rack in minutes when not in use. etrailer.com’s customer service is exceptional; prompt responses to questions with helpful information and suggestions and they are knowledgeable about the products they offer. Very satisfied with this rack and other purchases I have made with them. 663273

This is the simplest to use back rack I have ever owned. I have a short bed pick up truck so I have to turn the front tires and angle my bicycles, but the bikes all fit and I can close the tail gate. Much easier than attaching a bike rack to my trailer hitch. 576229

Great bike rack. I had to replace one of the boots that attaches the bike rack to the truck bed rail. The one that came with the bike rack would loosen up on bumpy roads. Now it doesn't move or loosen up on bumpy roads. Very good concept and works well. 570004

The Bed Bike Rack works great, I ordered 2 and I can mount 4 bikes in my truck and it holds them in nice and tight. My order came fast right to my front door with no problems - Great product. Thanks 92264

Did you connect the clamp to the side track? I used my topline with my F250 and Tundra but it wont mount to my 2012 Tacoma with the plastic bed and side track. I emailed Topline 4 times to see if they offer a track attachment and they havent returned my email so now I wonder if they are still in business.

Here is how I made it work- I did a slight modification to make it work better and stronger. I used the side track that comes on the 2005-2012 Tacoma. you have to parts to the mount the little part that has threads I put in the rail with the eyebolt up, the part that holds the pipe that gos to the bike has a little lip on it I took a grinder and cut it off , I did this because it made it a lot more sturdy, I put a small piece of rubber on the bottom it came with the Bike mount kit , now you have a flat edge for the top of your bed, I did buy longer eyebolts just so I had more threads to, but you dont need to. I did not cut the bed liner or make any holes in it I made two one for each Bike.

The bike rack is great - it was very easy to install and holds the bikes securely. I was a little concerned about whether it would work as our situation is a little different - we have a camper shell on our truck and our bikes are the "folding" ones that a lot of RVers use. But no worries - it worked great. As far as the service from etrailers - they were great to work with!! They upgraded the shipping at no additional cost to me - I received my order just a few days after I placed it. 59622

Finally used the bike rack for the first time last night. Worked like a champ, holding the bike rock steady for the entire 70 mile trip. It was super easy to setup and clamp the bike in place. My only nit to pick is the wheel straps...it needs a better buckle system that will maintain the tension. As we bounced down the less than stellar pavement, the strap would loosen, allowing a slight amount of wheel movement. Not enough to really reduce the stability of the bike as the mounting arm stayed rock solid and the bike never moved an inch. I have not tried it with 2 bikes yet so I cannot comment on the stability with the added weight/leverage. Great product and etrailer.com was FANTASTIC! I will be continue to make purchases from them. 148007

After some trial and error deciding just where to best put the clamps it worked out perfect. The bikes are secured tight without any movement at all. And, now that I know where to put everything it will be a lot easier next time. Well worth the price! 466480

Simple, effective and clean I didn't want a hitch mount bike rack that gets all rusted, is too big to store easily and is a pain in the butt, so I ordered this device. It works like a dream! I can disassemble it and put it inside my truck in seconds and it isn't dirty or rusty. It's super light and it actually gets more solid with more bikes attached. It also secures the bikes well with the integrated lock system. Very well thought out. You have to strap your front tire(s) though or your bike will want to turn and will put forces on the system that it wasn't meant to handle. I neglected this step once and broke a piece, but the manufacturer sent me a replacement no charge, and quickly. 436

installed on a 2000 Chevy Silverado with bedliner (had to cut 3" hole) I also have a tool box on the bed, I use this holder on my road bike (trek ls5 carbon fiber frame). The instructions provided are photocopy and not too clear, the install its pretty much straight forward, it took me about 10-15 min (i had to cut a hole on the bedliner). The top tube of my bike does not fit the provided clamp and I use the seat post instead, the material used to build this holder seem sturdy enough specially for my bike since its really light. This holder works great for me due to the fact that I no longer have to remove the front tire to place on the bed holder I used to use. I have a tool box on the back of the truck so this limits the space but at the same time helps me lock the wheel in place in a certain angle. Easy and fast to use. So far I have used it on 2 trips, both I drove on pavement so not a lot of movement on the truck bed, Im happy with this solution and recommended to others. Custumer service was amazing, had a small question and they reached out quick. 573167

2011 Ford Ranger

I recently installed the Topeline 2 Bike Carrier Truck Bed Mounted Expandable Bike Rack in my 2011 Ford Ranger. It installs nice and neat, using very little space. It does need a ratchet strap to aid in keeping the bikes upright. The clamps are good but I think it would be helpful if they were bigger to accommodate larger tubes. I was able to find just the right spot in my bed to place the mounting clamp so I could reach a tube that fit the clamp. The add-a-bike works well. The cap that comes with the rack fits perfectly in the hole I cut in my truck bed when the rack is not in use. All-in-all a good product. 460575

2 products....Anderson camper wheel chock / levellers for my trailer, and Topline 2 bike carrier for my truck bed. Both products are superb.....the camper leveller is so easy and quick to use, it can be easily done by one person....Arrive at your site...place the leveller...drive forward, check the level....place the chocks...that easy...great product. Topline 2 bike carrier.....again, very easily get your bike/s locked in standing, so no issues with being scratched or damaged....total confidence once the bikes were on to go on down any road...the bikes barely moved....great product. The price on both of these items, the delivery and service from Etrailer is hard to beat.....Always give a look at what products they have on offer, very competitive and quick delivery. I first bought tire chains, needed a quick delivery, and got a little concerned that I was not going to have them on time, so I contacted Etrailer for an ETA.....they upgraded my shipment at no extra charge....the chains arrived well before my trip.. That was the clincher for me.....Service, price, follow up...don't need more... 379484

Ford Ranger

The product works very well for transporting bikes securely in the pickup truck bed. I have a standard Ford Ranger and installation was a breeze. You've got to determine where on the bike to attach the clamp. The clamps were designed for bikes with smaller frame tubes than I have on my bikes; it would be nice if they were a bit larger, and you've got to make sure the attachment doesn't damage the control lines for gears and brakes. I was able to successfully attach two bikes securely. While some trucks may have space for four bikes, I think the max I could get in my Ranger would probably be three; but that's OK, I'll never need more than that. The quality of the materials is very good and should last for a long time. I have attached pictures showing a one-bike and two-bike setup. As other reviewers have said, the printed instructions leave something to be desired, but once you see the components it is pretty obvious what to do. All in all, I am very satisfied. 93938

Comments

I have used it many times this year. I usually use it with one bike, but occasionally my father-in-law and I go biking and it easily transports both bikes well. I do wish the clamps were a bit larger, but I have learned where to attach them so they work OK. It holds both bikes very securely, I have never had a case where a bike came loose. It is very quick to setup and put away I store the components in a satchel behind my seat in the truck when not in use.So after a year, I am still very satisfied.

The top line bike rack is well design for it use. Had no problem putting it together and installing it to my truck. Although my bike top rail was to large for the clamps ,I was able to solve the problem by installing a bike beam to secure the bike. 558197

The arm Was not long enough to to fit onto the bike seat post as it looks in the ads. Clamp did not attach to other places on the frame without worry of a scratch, poor clamp quality. Great idea for a bike rack, I can see how some kids bikes or small adult bikes might attach well, but not mine. Any 29, 27.5 or large frame 26 bikes will not work well with this rack. I ride a large bike, 6 ft guy, not huge at all. I would not recommend this product if you have any sense of concern for your bike, it just doesn't fit well and you have to modify things to make it work well. Sorry folks, pos. 337413

- UG2500
by:

This product works well for what it’s designed to do, keep your bike secured. However the product was not designed for modern bikes or 29er's. The manufacture needs to redesign the clamping system to be more flexible with modern bike tubes; also they need to extend the pole to reach a 29er seat post. With that said and with a little creativity I was able to make the system work by attaching the pole to the rear triangle of the bike frame. See my bike pics on how to make it work for a 29er. Once I figured this out the securing system work well. 74709

1999 Toyota Tacoma

I purchased the product for use in a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. After reading all your posted reviews I felt confident this would work with two new bikes both with large size tube frames. Put a Trek mens bike in, then a womens Specialized in using the second bike clamp and in 20 minutes the job was done! Took the truck for a fast bumpy ride and SUCCESS! Excellent product for the money! Well made and simple to set up and store behind the seat when done! 115441

I love the two bike carrier! I have a large tool box in the bed of my truck, so the front tires are turned to the side. I strapped both front tires together and the bikes never moved. 230 mile trip and "zero" problems or concerns! Having $5000 in two bikes, i tripled locked them together and to the truck! Which took longer than it did to set up both bikes. 96069

Great Product! Just got back from using it over the weekend, no slipping or any movement at all. Once you figure the best alignment of the bikes and where the bars go, then all you have to do is.......do it again and a again! I use 4 different locks to lock it in my truck. A thief would take along time to get the bikes!

2004 Toyota Tacoma

Installed the rack on my 2004 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with a plastic liner on the bed. I haven't tried driving around with it yet. It looks pretty sturdy. The only thing I'm worried about is that the back tire would look like that it will be jumping around if you hit a bump or something. Also, I think the bolt attachments should be a little longer. My Gary Fisher's frame were kinda wide for it. I had to unscrew it all the way so I can place the bolt in the slot. 89224

After a year. The bike rack really works well!! Great customer service by etrailer!!! The bolts to attach the bikes got stripped from normal use. I called etrailer and they got a hold of Topline and sent me another bolt. Now the bolt stripped again. Thats my only complain about this product. The bolts kept getting stripped!! Im screwing it normally and not forcing or doing anything different.from how you would normally screw in a bolt.I do use a strap on the front of the bike for more support. Etrailer. Great Customer Service!!!

2013 Ford F-150

Just received my UG2500. Watched the installation video and went to town. I have a F150. 2013 with a set in dura-liner. No cutting was required to enstall. Directions were easy and clear. Took my bike for “ a ride in the truck”. No problems. Went over speed bumps and good turns. Bike stayed put. i love this rack. Now when I am not hauling my bike, I store my UG2500 behind the truck seat. Cost was great and no problems storing a huge heavy rack. Another plus is I have access to my trailer hitch when hauling the bikes. So easy. I think ill name it GUS 547527

Great gadget. This installs in a Silverado in 10 minutes or less. Holds the bikes in place well on smooth roads. I doubl that it will secure a bike (s) on a rough road without first anchoring the wheels somehow. The service at eTrailer is five star. They shipped the product likety-split, no waiting at all. Yes, I recommend this buisness and product. 29573

2013 GMC Canyon

I finally have a nice sunny & half way warm day to try the UG2500 out. I have the 2009 GMC Canyon 4 door 5 foot short bed version with a tool box in the bed so space is shortened almost an extra 1 1/2 feet & as you will see in the pictures, very limited for my 26 inch polaris sportsman 21 speed bike that i converted into an electric bicycle. I had to mount my UG2500 bicycle holder closer to the rear of the truck but with 2 extra safety straps, one wrapped around the bike seat post & anchored to the rear loops in the rear of the truck bed & another strap looped around the front forks and anchored to the post in the front of the bed, the bike doesn't go anywhere. The UNI GRIP bed rail clamps tighten to the bed rail & the pivot arm bike clamp fits around my upper tube of this particular bike well. Once you have everything in place , this system holds the bike straight & level. As of this time, i believe it will serve my purpose when i take long or short trips.I should also let it be known that i took the plastic bed liner out & replaced it with a roll in bed liner plus spray in bed liner and got rid of the plastic junk. I believe that most folks with longer bed trucks shouldn't have any problem with this product as they would be able to close their tailgate for added security as far as the bike rolling out of their truck. I ordered my UG2500 on Jan.10 2013 at 3:13 p.m. in the afternoon. At 3:21 pm, eight minutes later, i received an email from George that their warehouse facility had this product in stock & it would ship out in 24 - 48 hours. At 3:46pm same date some 33 minutes later, I received an email from nathan that my order was shipped out & on the way. 3 days later it's sitting on my doorstep. Now, i can only say that is true service & fast at that along with keeping me informed of what is going on. Thanks folks for your service. 63591

The idea and simplistity it great. However todays MTB bikes being made with thicker tubing and off the wall designs, the clamps that come with it is not big enough to fit my trek fuel on the top or bottom tube. The seat post would work but the rack arm is not long enough. I was able to find a spot above the crank. Once I found that the rack worked out great. It's real solid and I will drive with confidence knowing my bike is snug and secure. Also the 2nd bike arm is not long enough because the handle bars even if I reverse one bike, I can't find a good spot. What would help is a long arm and with bigger clamps that swivel. My suggestion is to buy 2 single racks instead of that extra 2nd arm.... But over all it's easy to use, but with a fat tube bike, might be tricky. 165440

Great product. Was simple to install/adjust. Holds bike in place with very strong support. I've not hooked up a 2nd bike yet, it should be a breeze. I did a minor modification to the bed bracket to get it to work on my Toyota with a factory bed-rail system. One cut to remove excess metal from bed bracket and 2 holes drilled to install bed rail mounting hardware (located hardware on internet). 412129

2008 Toyota Tundra

Item arrived in perfect condition, and only 1 day later than scheduled, but that was because of a train derailment, so there's not much you can do about that. Not to mention, my shipping was upgraded for no extra charge, so it actually still arrived earlier than I thought it would. That was awesome. The bike rack itself is pretty simple to install. The hardest part was figuring out exactly where on my bed rail to mount it. I drive a 2008 Toyota Tundra with a "Duraliner" under rail bedliner, and the rack mounts with no problem. I would rate it "excellent" except that the instructions that come with the rack are too hard to read. It's not that they are complicated, it's the fact that they are copies that are many generations old, so the print is nearly illegible and the illustrations don't help much. Still, it didn't take long to figure out how the whole system works. The one other thing that keeps this from getting an "excellent" rating is the fact that the clamps don't fit larger sized frame tubes, as several other reviewers have mentioned. The simple fix is to attach the clamps to the seat post, which works perfectly well. An "excellent" product would fit any size frame tube out there. I took my truck for a drive around the neighborhood after I installed the rack and secured my bike in it. Everything held great and seemed very sturdy. I would definitely recommend this rack, especially considering the great price compared to other racks. 107511

This was installed on a 2018 Colorado Crew Cab with a 5' bed and soft roll-up tonneau cover. Since the tonneau cover rails prevented the bike holder clamp from being attached directly to the pickup bed rail itself, I had to modify the installation as shown in the photos. Basically, I turned the bike rack clamp upside down and drilled/bolted it to the tonneau cover rail with two 1/4" x 1" stainless bolts. The reason for turning it upside down was because the bottom of the clamp is longer, therefore providing a larger area to lay on top of the tonneau cover rail. This causes the head of the tensioner bolt for the bike holder arm to be underneath the clamp assembly, but is still easy enough to reach for adjustment. The original eyebolt and clamp nut were not needed in this arrangement. The tailgate can be fully closed by turning the front wheels of each bike sideways. I find it slightly easier to load the bikes facing backward in the bed, but they can also face forward by relocating the bike holder clamp further back. Either way, there is actually 1-2" overall clearance between the front/rear wheels of each bike and the front of the pickup bed and tailgate. So, the front/rear tires of each bike do not even touch the bed/tailgate. The bike holder arm holds the bikes securely during acceleration/braking/cornering/bumps in the road. The bottom line is that the UG2500 does the job after these modifications. 487688

I have a 2012 Tacoma with the cargo management rail. I noticed another reviewer chose to modify the bracket rather than modifying his cargo rail on his 2019 Tacoma. I want to thank him for his review and his instructions along with his photograph. It really was a simple process that is very effective and works excellent! Thank you Etrailor for supplying the rack! It sure beats slinging your bike all over the place! I traveled this past weekend a solid hour from my home to ride, and I know the bike never moved an inch. 670764

If the truck bed has OEM track system that prevents access to the underside of the truck bed side rail, this rack will not work, as we mention in the product description.

The second bike attachment should have an option to get a longer bar attachment. We have the same style of bikes, with the short bar I can't have both bikes facing forward. The handlebars hit each other. I had to turn the second bike 180 deg in order to make tha bar work. With the new style of bikes not all of the tubing is round to attach the bar to so you are limited. Itll work fine, but it would be nice to pull both bikes in forward and strap the front tire to the frame as designed. It is a great concept you guys made! I am recommending it to everyone I know! 647011

2019 Toyota Tacoma

Installed on my 2019 Tacoma. With cargo management rails, had to do a little engineering since this product is made to work without cargo rails and i DO have cargo rails, but i got it to work with a little extra work. - Shaved off a little bit of the bottom of the bracket so it could sit flush against my cargo rail - Drilled 3/8" holes through bracket - Purchased 2 T Slot Nuts to slide into my cargo management rails - Shaved off some of the T Slot Nuts so they would sit closer together allowing me to drill 2 holes into the bracket that make sense. - Purchased 2 3/8 - 16 Screws with washer & lock washer ALL DONE WITHOUT DAMAGE OR MODIFICATION TO MY TRUCK!!!!!! 627809

We looked for a bike rack for our E bikes for the back of our Toyota Tacoma but most of them had a weight limit. Our E Bikes are 60 lbs each so we needed something sturdy and secure. We did purchase two so that we would have more security for both bikes. I wasn’t sure the extender was ok for another 60 lbs. I would absolutely attach my kids bike to them both because the weight is less. We used it last weekend and the bikes are very secure. Once the main bracket is in place it’s super easy to get the bike locked down. We are very pleased with this product. 620194

I am really not satisfied with your product. Your add said to choose what truck I own and they would send the exact fit for my truck and now that I have received your product now it tells me that I would have to cut out a circle on my bedliner for it to work and I do not want to make a hole on my bedliner because that would let water in and corrode the truck bed. All that I can use out your product is the cable lock. 617668

Comments

The rack is indeed a fit for your vehicle. We state in the product description that for trucks with bed liners, a hole might be needed so that the rack can clamp securely to the truck bed.

I wanted an in bed carrier that did not require wheel removal. I bought the UG2500-2 and an AB2600 for a third bike. Once you figure out where to mount the bedrail clamp, adding one, two, or three bikes is a breeze. Be sure to use the provided strap for the front wheel as it eliminates any excess movement while driving. I have a Chevrolet crewcab shortbed 5'8" so the bikes are side by side at an angle so the tailgate will close. If you have a regular shortbed 6'6" you can have the bikes parallel to the bedrail. I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this Topline Bike Carrier. 605835

s got it today. Everything looks great. The mounting bracket is much beefier than I expected. I have a fork mounting bike rack that I made in 1994 that is super strong but with through axel bikes it is more difficult to use. I will build a cross bar much like my fork mounted rack for the new bike rack. it will be one of a kind and super strong. With my old rack I secured refrigerators to lawn tractors to it and it never let me down and it looks clean. Than 599899
