Video Transcript for Topline Truck Bed Mounted Expandable Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Topline Truck Bed Mountain Bike Racks. Available as a single or all the way up to a four-bike capacity rack. The part number we're using today is UG2500. This is the two-bike version. At the end of our main arm, at our first bike, we have a fully-articulating hand, that allows us to connect into the seat post or also onto the top frame tube of our bike. It's rubber padded on the inside, it's going to give us the protection that we need for our bikes, we're not going to get any kind of scuffs or scratches. Each of our arms are going to be a full aluminum arm, it's going to keep it nice and lightweight, but also stay very corrosion resistant, that way it's going to look good for a long time. The rack is designed to clamp right onto the bed rail of our pickup truck.

Just right underneath there has an eye bolt here that helps to hold this in place but also gives us a great connection point for our 74-inch long security cable. As you can see it comes with the rack, can easily be fed through our two bikes here, come back and make a connection point, securing both our frames and our tires to our truck. Now this is the two-bike setup, so we're going to have our one main long-arm and then we have an addition arm here in the middle. Now this is a two-bike rack, as you can see it's holding two-bikes, another one of this would then turn it into a three-bike and then one more of those would turn it into a four-bike for us. Giving us a lot of room to expand our rack based on our needs. Now that we've gone over the features, let me show you how to get this installed, as you can see we've got the large eye bolt here, we just want to loosen that up, that's going to allow what they call our clamp to come out. We want this to be loosen up to slide underneath the bed rail of our pick-up. You can see it's got a nice angle back so it's going to get a good grip on just that lip area.

We'll bring it up around the underside of the bed there, as you can see that's going to slide in right there and butt in nicely right up against the edge. Now, we do have our rubber gasket, now our rubber gasket should be installed right up here in the corner, just pull the tape off the back, stick it right into position. That helps it get a good grab on our bed rails. Once we've got it in position here, where we want it on our rail, we'll tighten up one of our nuts just a little bit there, to give us a little bit of space, and then we'll tighten our eye bolt down. We'll feel that make a good connection. Tighten an eye bolt down and then we need to run our second nut right down against that one and tighten it down. Tighten that down just slightly to make it a good solid jam nut, right up on there, it's holding in place great.

We're now going to grab our longer curved piece, slide that right into position here, andt hen we can tighten down that rack T handle slightly just to hold it in place for now. Then we can load up our bike, we'll undo the black, large black wing nut here, or knob, allow that to tilt down the way, and that will allow us to open up our clamp. We have our bike here in the bed of the truck, we're just going to bring it and fit this right around the seat post, what's great about this rack is whether you're securing it to the top frame to there or the seat post, it doesn't matter. You've got your options, the clamp is designed to fit a bar that's up to an inch and a half in diameter, so you want to keep that in mind, a lot of times, this tube is going to be a little bit wider than that so the seat post is going to be here in your top option there. Now we'll just tighten down the large nut here. Until that gets good firm hold on our bike. We're also going to take this opportunity to secure our front tire, this should be in the forward position, where just our rear tire, so we've got the weight sitting directly down. The strap will come up through the metal.

Back down or outside there. Let's give that a tug to secure it. Hold everything nice and steady as we're heading down the road. Now for loading of the second bike, we're bringing our add-on, open the clamp just like we did on the first one, put it around and then tighten it down around the seat too. While we're doing that, we can be loosening our other clamp up on the other end of our extension. With that nice and secure, let's grab our other bike. Now we'll just bring our clamp around our seat tube here on the second bike. Then just tighten it down after we slide that t-bolt back into the slot. Right, again just like the first bike we're going to secure it. Let's bringing our strap around the front tire, around the frame of the bike, and then around on the tag end through the end of the strap. Tighten that down. We've got our bikes loaded up. Now let's go ahead and secure these. Now our bike rack does come with a cable lock. Easy to use, as you can see it's a self coiling style, so when it's not in use, it's nice and Compact. What we'll do is just stretch our cable out here. Going to go around the frames of our bike that you choose, you can go down through the rims. Those are usually pretty expensive on these bikes, so good to secure that and we'll just bring the ends together, clip them in and we're set and ready to head down the road. Good shape, as you can see. Nice and solid. The bikes aren't going to be going anywhere. Let's go out and see how it fairs as we go through our test course. We'll start by doing this slow, this is going to show you the side to side movement of the rack, just like if we we're changing lanes or maybe doing some evasive maneuvers. Once we make our way around the corner, we'll get into a series of alternating speed bumps, this is going to show us really good twisting and torquing action. We'll now get into the solid speed bumps. This is going to simulate a big bump in the road or maybe entering and exiting a parking garage, a parking lot or maybe a driver way. That'll complete today's look at the Topline Truck Bed Mounted Two-bike rack. Part number UG2500, also available on a one-bike, three-bike and a four-bike. .

This bike carrier has worked out well for us because our travel trailer bumper will not support a three-bike carrier. By arranging the bikes so that the pedals are staggered, our bikes take up minimal space in the truck bed. It is a great solution for people like us who tend to overprovision for every outing. :-) 265091

I have a 2011 Chev Silverado and this rack system worked perfectly. Easy to install, use, and stores under my back seat. If I take one bike or all three, it is easy to do. Nothing permanently attached to your truck (no drilling, no bolts thru bed). No marks on seat post. Holds tight on windy days as well. 209548

No wear noticed after one year of use. Transport 2 bikes at least once a week. I have to secure by seat post because my Trek bikes have oval horizontal tubes, not a big deal. Works great for me and appears to be holding up great.

2016 Toyota Tundra

Even though this product didn't work out at all for me, I'm still giving it 3 stars because it's a pretty cool concept, the parts seen well made & the packaging was good. Why didn't it work out? a) My bikes have large tubes so I would have to attach the carrier to the seat post. But .. b) The only places I can mount the clamp on my Tundra's bed rail would have the bike either too far forward (front tire wouldn't be clear of the front wall of the bed) or too far to the rear (rear tire wouldn't be clear of the tail gate). So .. E-Trailer's fitment guide for my truck is true IF my bikes would have had thinner tubes. But .. it just didn't work out. 423775

After happily using Deltas fork locks mounted on a 2x8 for a year, I now have an even lower impression of this product. Its a big contraption when a simple fork mount will do the job. Would downgrade it from 3 stars to 1 if I could.

This product is super easy to use. Once the clamp was installed on the bed rail, my 9 and 11 year olds did the rest. The bikes are stable and didn't move all weekend. We did about 200 miles of varying terrain (interstate, parking lots with speed bumps, dirt parking lots, etc) and the bikes didn't move. The only downfall of the product is the included cable lock. As other users have stated it is short for its intended purpose. 440784

2016 GMC Canyon

Got this a year ago and it has been great. Exactly what I needed. I have a 2016 GMC Canyon long bed and a Tanneau cover and everything fits fine. It holds my bikes tight here on the Korean roads. Bumps, sudden stops, hills... it works great. The bike in the middle on the attached picture is a 40 Lbs electric bike. I find it best to lock the brakes with velcro straps. I never used the included straps for locking the wheels. I always keep the main arm in the truck for the occasion I need to carry my main bike, a 65 LBS electric mountain bike. I have gotten so good at it, I can lock my bike down in 3 minutes. I lost the piece that tightens the bracket onto the arm, but a standard bolt I had laying around worked and set flush. 426584

The bike carrier/rack works pretty good. It's simple, doesn't require removing any of the bike wheels, and holds the bikes pretty solid. I've only gone as far as two bikes so far. As long as you mount everything as directed you should be good to go. I've even taken this over speed bumps and dips with no issues. At first I was worried the bike would move around and eventually fall over or the bed clamp would slip out. Nope. No issues. The key for me is getting the rear tire to line up in one of the grooves of my bed, having the front tire rest against the rear cab wall and really cinching down that front wheel so it doesn't move. If that starts moving then the bike will wiggle and could work itself loose. As you can see I have my front tire turned 90°. This allows me to shut my truck bed and the front of my bike rests right up against the back wall making it more secure. I docked one star because I think the bar sits my bike out too far from the side of the bed where it mounts, which takes up a lot of space. So, I modified the bar a bit by removing approx 4" of length to bring the bike closer to where I feel it should be. This got rid of a lot of that wasted space while still giving my front tire room. I wasn't concerned with voiding any warranties. I just wanted it to fit right otherwise I wouldn't have used it. You can see the before and after pictures. The blurry picture is after I modified the tube/bar. 692182

I'm not a fan. The rack doesn't grab the truck bed rail solidly with my rolled tonneau cover attached. I had to remove the cover entirely. In my short bed, I have to leave the tail gate down to accommodate the bikes. As a result, the bikes don't press firmly enough again the bed front to keep the bike straight. The straps they include to help lock the position the front wheels don't work very well. It also takes too much time to attach the second bike. After we rode, my friend mounted his bikes on a traditional rack in a tenth of the time it took me. Maybe it takes less time in a long bed truck, but way too long in my short bed. This is a good idea but I wish I had passed. 437006

Overall, construction is great. The materials seem to be quality and everything fit together nicely. I do think the main arm extending out could possibly be a little shorter (or perhaps adjustable) in order for the bike to fit closer to the side and save space in the bed. Also, if the clamp was larger in order to allow for larger tube diameters that are common in today's bike that would be a nice feature. Aside from those two items, the rack performs as promised. 359506

It works as expected, Holds bikes steady and securely. It took me about 10 minutes to install, (really easy) as I don't read instructions, I'll bet it would it take me less if I would of read the instructions. No Drilling or cutting need it here, is small enough so that you can store it any where. very happy with the product. 229203

I have a 1991 Toyota 4X4 pickup with an over the rail bedliner. Once hole was cut in the bedliner, it was very easy to install. Works great and easy to remove. I especially like that cap that is sent to cover the bedliner hole when the bike carrier is not in use. The videos of product demonstration on youtube are very helpful. I agree with previous reviews: the straps for the tires are useless- one tight turn in my truck with a bump and it let loose and my bike wheel was turned. Bungee cords are excellent instead. Also, the larger tubes on bikes don't fit in the holder, but I am able to attach everything to the seat posts without problems. Processing of my order and delivery were very fast! I even got a personal email from etrailer telling me my product had been delivered. 37182

I like it but have a few complaints. 1) The clamps that come with the system are not big enough to work with bike frames that have large tubes. I have a mountain bike and had to clamp to the upright frame tube the seat post goes into. The clamp works there (or on the seat post) but I would like to have more mounting options. 2) The straps that come with the system for holding the front wheel in line with the frame are useless - plan on replacing them with small bungee cords. 3) Plan on using a bungee to hold the back wheel in place - even with the clamp nuts tightened as much as possible, if you hit a big enough bump there will be some up/down movement of the bike if you don't use a bungee. Even with these complaints I rate the system high. It was easy to install and works as I expected, and I was planning to use a bungee on the back wheel anyway. 35932

So far so good. I have used the rack one time to carry to a local bike trail and back. I agree with other users that have mentioned the issues with larger tubes, but I was able to make it work without much trouble. Bikes seemed to be secure and setup/takedown was a cinch. 31319

Grips could be made a little smarter to work with wider frame tubes, but otherwise a very functional product for pickup use. 7108
