Video Transcript for Topline Truck Bed Mounted Expandable Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Topline Truck Bed Mountain Bike Racks. Available as a single or all the way up to a four-bike capacity rack. The part number we're using today is UG2500. This is the two-bike version. At the end of our main arm, at our first bike, we have a fully-articulating hand, that allows us to connect into the seat post or also onto the top frame tube of our bike. It's rubber padded on the inside, it's going to give us the protection that we need for our bikes, we're not going to get any kind of scuffs or scratches. Each of our arms are going to be a full aluminum arm, it's going to keep it nice and lightweight, but also stay very corrosion resistant, that way it's going to look good for a long time. The rack is designed to clamp right onto the bed rail of our pickup truck.

Just right underneath there has an eye bolt here that helps to hold this in place but also gives us a great connection point for our 74-inch long security cable. As you can see it comes with the rack, can easily be fed through our two bikes here, come back and make a connection point, securing both our frames and our tires to our truck. Now this is the two-bike setup, so we're going to have our one main long-arm and then we have an addition arm here in the middle. Now this is a two-bike rack, as you can see it's holding two-bikes, another one of this would then turn it into a three-bike and then one more of those would turn it into a four-bike for us. Giving us a lot of room to expand our rack based on our needs. Now that we've gone over the features, let me show you how to get this installed, as you can see we've got the large eye bolt here, we just want to loosen that up, that's going to allow what they call our clamp to come out. We want this to be loosen up to slide underneath the bed rail of our pick-up. You can see it's got a nice angle back so it's going to get a good grip on just that lip area.

We'll bring it up around the underside of the bed there, as you can see that's going to slide in right there and butt in nicely right up against the edge. Now, we do have our rubber gasket, now our rubber gasket should be installed right up here in the corner, just pull the tape off the back, stick it right into position. That helps it get a good grab on our bed rails. Once we've got it in position here, where we want it on our rail, we'll tighten up one of our nuts just a little bit there, to give us a little bit of space, and then we'll tighten our eye bolt down. We'll feel that make a good connection. Tighten an eye bolt down and then we need to run our second nut right down against that one and tighten it down. Tighten that down just slightly to make it a good solid jam nut, right up on there, it's holding in place great.

We're now going to grab our longer curved piece, slide that right into position here, andt hen we can tighten down that rack T handle slightly just to hold it in place for now. Then we can load up our bike, we'll undo the black, large black wing nut here, or knob, allow that to tilt down the way, and that will allow us to open up our clamp. We have our bike here in the bed of the truck, we're just going to bring it and fit this right around the seat post, what's great about this rack is whether you're securing it to the top frame to there or the seat post, it doesn't matter. You've got your options, the clamp is designed to fit a bar that's up to an inch and a half in diameter, so you want to keep that in mind, a lot of times, this tube is going to be a little bit wider than that so the seat post is going to be here in your top option there. Now we'll just tighten down the large nut here. Until that gets good firm hold on our bike. We're also going to take this opportunity to secure our front tire, this should be in the forward position, where just our rear tire, so we've got the weight sitting directly down. The strap will come up through the metal.

Back down or outside there. Let's give that a tug to secure it. Hold everything nice and steady as we're heading down the road. Now for loading of the second bike, we're bringing our add-on, open the clamp just like we did on the first one, put it around and then tighten it down around the seat too. While we're doing that, we can be loosening our other clamp up on the other end of our extension. With that nice and secure, let's grab our other bike. Now we'll just bring our clamp around our seat tube here on the second bike. Then just tighten it down after we slide that t-bolt back into the slot. Right, again just like the first bike we're going to secure it. Let's bringing our strap around the front tire, around the frame of the bike, and then around on the tag end through the end of the strap. Tighten that down. We've got our bikes loaded up. Now let's go ahead and secure these. Now our bike rack does come with a cable lock. Easy to use, as you can see it's a self coiling style, so when it's not in use, it's nice and Compact. What we'll do is just stretch our cable out here. Going to go around the frames of our bike that you choose, you can go down through the rims. Those are usually pretty expensive on these bikes, so good to secure that and we'll just bring the ends together, clip them in and we're set and ready to head down the road. Good shape, as you can see. Nice and solid. The bikes aren't going to be going anywhere. Let's go out and see how it fairs as we go through our test course. We'll start by doing this slow, this is going to show you the side to side movement of the rack, just like if we we're changing lanes or maybe doing some evasive maneuvers. Once we make our way around the corner, we'll get into a series of alternating speed bumps, this is going to show us really good twisting and torquing action. We'll now get into the solid speed bumps. This is going to simulate a big bump in the road or maybe entering and exiting a parking garage, a parking lot or maybe a driver way. That'll complete today's look at the Topline Truck Bed Mounted Two-bike rack. Part number UG2500, also available on a one-bike, three-bike and a four-bike. .

I really like this product. It is easy to use and to add several bikes to it. It was important to me that I did not have to take the front wheels off my bikes. I have a couple of high end race bikes that I put in this rack and I do not feel nervous at all. I would have given 5 stars but the only issue I have had is the plastic handle has stripped. I like the product enough that I am willing to take the time to figure that out. 473215

As advertised, easy to install, numerous ways to attach bikes regardless of tire size, style, frame. Secure mounting, carefree transportation of four bikes in my 2008 F150 super crew. Met all expectations. EXCEPTIONAL customer service!! Randy S. went out of his way to answer my questions prior to ordering, even measuring the side rail clamp so I would know if I could mount it with an existing soft tonneau cover system in place, worked out perfectly!! Ordered product on a Tuesday evening, chose standard 5-7day ground shipping, notified by email Tuesday night they upgraded to 3-5 day shipping for free. Received product Thursday afternoon. Etrailer will be my source for all future purchases. 97001

First off I received the bike rack really fast from etrailer so I'm pleased with their service thus far. It's winter out here now, so haven't had a chance to try it yet, but the system seems to be sturdy enough to do what it's supposed to. I like the fact that it doesn't take up a lot of room and that its portable. I'd give it 5 stars, but haven't used it yet so that's why the 4. I'm sure it will be great, can't wait to use it in the spring! 596012

2009 Dodge Ram Pickup

Recently planned a trip from PA to coastal N.C., during which we would be using our bicycles in an event there. I had the use of a pickup truck for the drive, but as this is not my regular vehicle, I did not have a means of securing the bikes in a pickup. Looking a different options, the styles that are similar to bike racks in a parking lot, where a tire sits between rails, did not have great reviews, unless you were spending a lot more money than I wanted to. Spending less is great, but if the device does not hold an expensive bike securely, it is not worth using. I found the Topline UG2500-4 truck bed carrier listed on the etrailer.com site while doing Web searches. It was different from other options, had very good reviews, was within my price range, included options to haul 4 bikes, and there was also a video showing installation and the carrier in use! The decision was made to try it, though I was a bit skeptical since it was different from other carriers. My carrier arrived quickly, only taking a couple days from placing the order. This carrier is pretty simple in design, so should not cause other problems using it. The main base clamp was clamped to the truck bed, but let loose enough so it's position could be adjusted once I connected the bikes to it. After that, it is simply a matter of placing the clamps between bikes and tightening the clamps to the bikes. It states you can clamp to either the seat post or frame. I clamped to the seat posts, as they seemed to work better and you are not marring the paint or frame. Once all were in place and the clamps tightened, I was pleasantly surprised and how well this carrier supported the bikes. You could just barely cause any movement of the bikes by pushing on them. The bikes were various frame and wheel sizes, but the kit clamps were adjustable enough to work with all the bikes. The kit included a coiled cable lock & key. I ran this through the wheels on one end, but used a heavier cable & lock to further secure the bikes to the truck. The knobs were checked at each gas stop to ensure they were not working loose, but I did not have any problems like this. As this kit was only used for one trip, I cannot comment on longevity, and there are plastic parts within the kit, (knobs, brackets, etc.), but they seem strong enough to hold up under normal use. I'm sure over tightening of these could cause breakage, but I found they do not need to be torqued down, just snug. I have used various types of carriers before from trunk racks to roof racks to hitch racks, but I have to say, that if you have a truck, and don't mind loosing space in bed, this design works very well, plus it lets the truck hitch open to tow a boat or trailer. The kit is also pretty compact when disassembled, so does not require much room to store it, as opposed to other types of carriers. So far, I am quite pleased, recommend it, and would purchase again. 254607

This is a great system. It installs in minutes and it's pretty easy to install bikes of various styles and sized. In my F-150 I was able to install three adult cruiser type bike and have a trailer-cycle attached to the third swung around. I don't have pictures from that day unfortunately. 308596

I would not recommend this product, I’ve stopped using it. We purchased this rack to carry our bikes when towing a travel trailer. The attachment point on the pickup box rail had a tendency to start bending the rail the more we used it so we discontinued use before it caused permanent damage to the truck. It also took quite a bit of time to get everything secured every time and just became a hassle to use. 597689

We looked for a long time for the right bike rack for our two e-bikes. Even sent one back to that other online retailer. The 4-bike Top-line carrier worked out the best. I kept Donna P from etrailer on the phone for quite a long time looking through the catolog, until we found the right carrier. This Top-line carrier is great for e-bikes, and the service from Donna, just excellent. 544335

Hooked up the the Topline 4 bike carrier this afternoon for a test fit. The bed rail bracket did fit over my tonneau cover mounting bar. However due to the design of my bike it must be removed when not being used as its in the same location as where the gas strut attaches to the cover. Not a design flaw just a minor inconvenience for me. Otherwise, all bikes mounted pretty easily after figuring out the best place to put each connecting bar. With all for bikes attached it seemed pretty sturdy. I thought about going with two 2 bike systems one for each side for addition stability but it was around a $40 difference to do that. I did notice that after tightening down the clamps to each tube the clamp seemed to bend at the very end. I was really tightening them down so I backed off a little. The bike holder still seemed sturdy although I could've tightened each tube more. I did have to be a little creative finding where to mount each bar due to different sized bikes and different sized frame tubes. In the end it worked out great. I have not traveled with the Topline 4 bike rack yet. 410208

I received my 4 bike system today. I tried it out on 1 bike and it is solid. since I am driving a 2015 F150 Supercrew, I only have a 51/2 foot bed. So, I have to turn the front tire sideways to be able to close the tailgate. Actually, it works great by doing that since my front bike tire is right up to my box link connector. I simply strap the front tire to the box link and it is really solid. What a great product~! 231805

it worked ok. But the clamping device really is not for a modern bed rail type things always seemed to move around. more for a classic "post pocket" type rail. We used our older fork mount carrier across the bed for two bikes and then used the connection clamps for three more and that combination worked great. everything was solid for 300 miles to our trail head. I like the idea and the pieces fit into an old duffel bag great. 512865

The delivery was quick. It had said that it wasn't going to be delivered till after we left for our vacation but it arrived a few days before and we were able to use it. It's easy to get all hooked up in the truck bed. The instructions for it were pretty bad. Not much help but it's really simple. I think the clamp parts need redesigned. Most bikes these days have bigger frames and I was limited to one spot were I was able to clamp the bikes together. Overall it works. It's easy. May look for a different way to transport my bikes later on. 677931

Permits us to safely haul up to four bikes in the truck bed while pulling the camper. 664071

Have not had the product on the road yet. Have installed it with two bikes. The bike clamps, while easy to use, are limited to normal size bike rails. I did read that over sized rails were a problem but my Schwinn with modest oversized rails were to big. I had to put the clamps on my seat post for it to work. Like the idea and the product is made with quality. Just have a plan on how to handle over sized bike rails if you have them. 634777

The thumb screw that holds the main arm stripped (the plastic part turns but it doesn't turn the actual screw), and my F150 has relatively thin edges to the truck bed where the rack attaches to, and that causes the bike to swing fore and aft. 617781

I recently ordered the Topline UG2500-4 Truck Bed 4 Bike Carrier. The bike carrier was extremely easy to use and adjust. I have four adult size beach cruisers and was able to easily attach them to the bike carrier brackets in my 2016 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 5.5 ft bed. The front wheels needed to be turned on all the bikes because they're longer then the truck bed, but that didn't cause any problems with getting them firmly fastened in the back of the truck. Great product! 547688

Great, simple idea. Clamp fit my F150 well. I plan on transporting just my bike or several others for family vacation trips. Delivery was unexpectedly fast. The clamp to my bicycle was a little trial and error because I have a Trek Navigator bike with a large tubular frame and the horizontal tubes are not round. I was able to adjust the clamp to the saddle post tube. Slightly larger jaws and/or a longer threaded T rod would make life easier. After installation, it seems to be sturdy. I have a different clamp in an old truck that clamps and locks onto the front fork after the tire is removed. I broke the tine on the fork when the bike fell over before I could secure the locking mechanism. $$. I like your idea better. 502896

This bike rack system is awesome! Easy to set up and easy to store when not in use. We just used it to haul our bikes from Chattanooga, TN to Key West and the Everglades, Fl. It performed great and it's so easy to use! Did I mention that it's really easy to use? Ha! Great product! You can't say that about a lot of stuff you buy these days. Tim Baker 499730

I love my bike racks! I can securely put 1 to 4 bikes in my truck with no damage to them from moving around. I like the modular system and how light weight and easy to store. Amazing value when weighing benefits and satisfaction to cost! Thanks

This product has been excellent. It holds our two electric bikes very securely in the back of my pickup. I had a top of the line hitch rack but I was not comfortable with the weight of these bikes on it. We have just finished a 2000 mile round trip vacation and the bikes never budged. We do need to zip tie the hand brakes down but that is minor and simple to do. One suggestion would be for your company to design a bicycle cover that would fit with your rack systems. Another suggestion would be to offer a longer bar for the second bike. Because of the height difference between our two bikes they are closer to each other than I would like. Our rough roads in Michigan could cause the tires to vibrate closer to each other. Overall though I am very satisfied and would highly recommend. Thank you for a great product. I wish I had taken a picture for you. 430980

My husband and I love this bike carrier. It is so easy to set up and take down and definitely holds our bikes in place. We use to store and haul out the hitch attachment and put it on then attach bikes and lock in place. When we got tired of doing that, we would just lay our bikes in the bed of our truck while placing a blanket in between. Not ideal! We now use this convenient device for trips nearby or hours away. This is a great product and well worth the money. We needed a bike rack for the back of our truck to haul all 4 of our bikes for our camping trips. Our bikes range from a child's dirt bike to both my wife and my daughters beach cruisers and my Mongoose fat tire bike. This system accomondated each on and safley transported them to and from the camp ground reaching speeds of 65 mph on the freeway hauling our camper. I was skepticle, but this worked flawless and is easily set up and broken down. I store it under the rear seat of my Silverado. Ask the Experts about this Topline Truck Bed Bike Racks

Do you have a question about this Truck Bed Bike Rack?

  • Bike Carrier Options for 2018 Ford F-150 with Tonneau Cover
  • There are a few combinations of tonneau cover and ladder rack for trucks like your 2018 F-150 that will work together. The key is that the two products cannot use the same mounting points. As an example, the 5-1/2-foot bed F-150 without the cargo management system can use the BAK Revolver X2 tonneau cover # BAK39329 that rolls up. With this cover installed it is possible to also use the TracRac SR Siding ladder rack # TH43002XT-508 that also fits that 5-1/2-foot bed truck. Unfortunately,...

  • 4-Bike Rack for Use on Deck of 4 x 6 Utility Trailer
  • You do have a unique bike transport requirement and I see why you came to etrailer! You are correct that bike carriers for use on utility trailers are rare animals. Truck bed racks like the 4-bike Topline # UG2500-4 might be usable - the bike wheels stay on - if you have or can create a place to secure the mounting clamp. Since it sounds like you are capable of some fabrication I do have a suggestion that is a little outside the box but that gives you the flexibility to choose a...

  • Truck Bed Bike Rack Options for 2016 Toyota Tacoma with the Cargo Management Rails
  • You can see our range of truck-bed bike racks for your 2016 Toyota Tacoma with the Cargo Management Rail system by clicking on the link provided. The options do include multi-bike carrier systems for 4 or more bikes and in this kind of capacity most carriers are the tailgate pad type such as # SR26461 from SoftRide. In lower-capacity racks we offer the bed-rail-mount type such as the Swagman # S64702, a 2-bike carrier that can be upgraded to 3 bikes by adding # SP484. We also offer...

  • Truck Bed Bike Carrier Setup for 5 Bikes in 2018 Ford F150
  • The Topline # UG2500 frame-mount truck bed bike rack is a perfect option for transporting bikes in a pickup bed without having to remove the bikes' front wheels as with fork-mount carriers like Hollywood Racks # HRT970 and Yakima # Y01117. Since one Topline cannot be configured for 5 bikes (up to 4 only) your idea of using two carriers, one for 3-bikes and one for 2-bikes, is absolutely the way to go. You will then want to order items # UG2500 and # UG2500-3. If for example two of...

  • Recommended Truck Bed Bike Rack for Fat Tire Bike
  • We do have an option for you, though installing the RockyMounts TomaHawk Roof Bike Rack for Fat Bikes # RKY1222 in a truck bed is not recommended. Not only would it void the warranty but it may damage the rack and which could lead to it not properly securing your bikes. Instead, I recommend checking out the Topline Bike Carrier # UG2500-1 because it will carry your fat tire bike with the wheels on, and easily clamps to most truck bed side rails. All it requires is that your bike have...

  • Truck Bed Bike Rack for 4 Bikes at Front of Bed on a 2017 Toyota Tacoma
  • Technically if you are willing to modify the truck bed you could install the Thule Insta-Gater # TH501 at the front of a truck bed. But it was not designed or tested for that. What I recommend is to use Topline rack # UG2500-4 (as long as the truck does not have the cargo management rails on the bed sides (would have to be removed it is does to use this rack)). One end attaches to the inside bed side and holds the first bike, the second and subsequent bikes are then linked with the additional...

  • Truck Bed Bike Rack on Short Bed 2016 Ford F-150
  • You would be able to use the Truck Bed 4 Bike Carrier # UG2500-4, though keep in mind that would mean you could not secure the tires of your bikes to their frames with the provided straps, and that could mean your tires causing quite a bit of movement in the bed of your F-150. Also, if the bikes are different sizes, it is possible for the the wheels to come in contact with the frames. I have added a review video of this rack for you to take a look at.

  • Best Way to Carry 4 Bikes with a Honda Ridgeline
  • Your best option though would be to install a hitch and go with a hitch mounted bike rack though as the # UG2500-4 that you referenced has not been confirmed to fit your vehicle. For a hitch you would want the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75280. I attached an install video as well. The most popular 4 bike rack we offer that would work well on the recommended hitch is the Thule Hitching Post part # TH934XTR. This is a great rack loaded with the features of the more expensive racks yet...

  • Will Topline Truck Bed Bike Rack Fit a 2014 Ford F-150 with a TruXedo Lo Pro Tonneau Cover
  • The rails for the TruXedo Lo Pro Tonneau cover on your 2014 Ford F-150 will get in the way of installing Topline bike rack # UG2500-4 but there is another option. You could use the Swagman Tailwhip # S64760 which can hold up to 5 bikes and will not interfere with the Tonneau cover. I have linked a video review for you.

  • Can a Front-Mount Hitch on a 2002 Ford F-150 Support a 4-Bike Hitch-Mount Carrier
  • We offer several 2-inch front-mount hitch receivers for the 2002 Ford F-150; these can be seen using the link provided. The drop-down menu at the top of the screen will allow you to select either the 2WD or 4WD version to see the correct front hitch for your vehicle. All available models feature a substantial 500-lb tongue weight rating and all install without drilling or welding but vehicles with tow hooks and skid plates will require these be removed temporarily and/or trimmed for hitch...

  • Truck Bed Bike Rack for 2 Electric and 2 Regular Bikes in a 2016 Ram 1500 with Tonneau Cover
  • It depends on the type of Tonneau cover you have. It is the type that has any of the mounting rails on top of or overlapping the bed sides towards the inside of the bed then the Topline bike rack # UG2500-4 would not work if installed in the traditional way. But you might be able to rig something up so that it doesn't interfere with the Tonneau cover. The weight would not be an issue since this carrier does not even have a weight rating. Another option is to use a tailgate pad such as...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation to Carry Five Bikes in the Bed of a Utility Trailer
  • To transport the 5 bikes, you could use 5 of the Fork Mount Bike Carrier Block - Thule Low Riders, # TH821, and attach them to the bed of your trailer. I have included a link to the installation details below. To secure the bikes to the rack and/or trailer, I recommend adding a cable lock like # e98891.

  • Will the Topline 2 Bike Truck Bed Rack Work with a Clamp on Tonneau Cover Without Damaging Rails
  • The Topline 2 Bike Carrier, # UG2500-4, is designed to clamp around the bed side rail and would most likely not work with a clamp on style tonneau cover, like the LiteRider Roll-Up Tonneau Cover by Access, # 834532001088. It will depend on the style of clamp on rail that your tonneau uses. I attached a photo showing the style of clamp on rail that the LiteRider Roll-Up tonneau uses, see link. Another option for carrying bikes in the bed of your truck would be the Softride Tailgate Pad...

  • How Secure and Sturdy is Truck Bed 3 Bike Carrier - Topline - Expandable, # UG2500-3
  • I went out to the warehouse to do a little testing on one of these racks. On the Truck Bed 3 Bike Carrier - Topline - Expandable, # UG2500-3, side to side movement will be limited as the arms are rigid. The clamps do allow for some up and down movement which will reduce the stress on the aluminum arms and so the bikes can move with the bed floor as you drive. The arms are sturdy and it would take a lot of torque, more than a person can produce without tools or machines, to bend or break...

  • The Truck Bed 4 Bike Carrier - Topline # UG2500-4, the 3 bike # UG2500-3, or the 2 bike # UG2500 all use the exact same rail clamp. On the clamp that attaches to the bed rail, there is very little space. If the lip on your topper is too thick, the clamp will not be able to mount correctly. You can see a better picture of the clamp on part # UG2500 to give you a better idea of the space available. This product will fit some applications and won't fit others with the topper because it is...

  • Can The Topline 4 Bike Carrier # UG2500-4 For Truck Beds Carry Less Than 4 Bikes If Needed
  • The nice feature about the Topline Truck Bed Carrier # UG2500-4 that you referenced is the versatility to carry as many as 4 or as few as 1 bike at a time with this system. The system initially installs on the rail of your truck for your first bike and by simply adding arms you can carry up to 4 bikes. This system comes with one bike cable that holds 2 bikes, so you may be interested in the DeadBolt # CAB-10 cable lock for your other 2 bikes. I have attached a brief installation video...

The bar-style racks like the Topline # UG2500-4 cannot be used on your truck but the linked article addresses the various types of truck bed bike racks we offer and this may be helpful to you. • Can the Topline Truck Bed 4 Bike Carrier be Used With Beach Cruisers
  • The Topline Truck Bed 4 Bike Carrier can certainly be used for 4 beach cruisers, but you will probably need to stagger the bikes a bit so that their wide handlebars do not interfere with one another. Depending on the length of your truck bed, you might just need to move the bikes back and forth a bit (first bike with the front tire touching the front of the bed, next bike back far enough so that the handlebars clear the first bike and so on). If your truck has a short bed, you might...

  • Truck Bed Bike Rack for a Dodge Ram 1500 with BakFlip Tonneau Cover
  • The Topline bike rack # UG2500-4 needs to be able to clamp to the bed side so it is unlikely that you will be able to mount it due to the rails that the BakFlip tonneau cover uses. You can see what the bike rack clamp looks like in the picture I have included. Since you will need to have the cover open to carry bikes in the truck bed anyway I recommend a Softride Shuttle pad, # SR26457. This will allow you to carry the bikes and protect the tailgate. This product will have to come off...

To use part # D-192, you would have to stay within the total tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds, when using both 2 inch receiver openings.
