  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps, Insta-dapt radiator adapter and hose-barb fittings
  • Recommended for full-size trucks and SUVs

  • Inlets: 1/2" NPT
  • Fittings: 1/2" NPT x 3/8" hose barb

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

2006 GMC 1500

2006 GMC 1500 This product is solidly designed and the installation kit well thought out. The connection hose was heavier and better quality than what the auto parts store could provide. I will be adding additional clamps to the connections so there are two on each just as a precaution against leakage. The single clamps are working well for my test period. I fabricated brackets for mine but using the plastic pins would work just as well. It is a huge improvement over the factory cooler. I would recommend it to anyone that is towing near or at truck capacity. 153950

The cooler is working flawlessly. I replaced the clamps with 12 PEX pipe crimps for a better seal. The transmission has operated within safe temps while towing 7000 lbs on I-70 over the Rocky Mountains. It is a worthy product!

My vehicle originally did not have a transmission cooler. After warming up, my transmission temperature would typically be 100 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature, whether moving or stopped. Towing the largest enclosed U-Haul trailer (6'x12') would raise the temperature to about 120 degrees above ambient. After adding this cooler, the transmission stays about 70 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature on the highway, and 80-85 degrees above ambient while parked or driving in slow traffic. I haven't towed that same U-Haul trailer since adding the cooler, but towing a much larger (8.5'x20') enclosed trailer raises the temperature to about 110 degrees above ambient. If you can find a spot the cooler will physically fit, it should work for your vehicle. You may have to get creative to solidly mount it. I used an angle grinder to remove part of a factory brace. When doing work in this area of your vehicle, be careful not to puncture the AC condenser! If you do, like I did, you will have to replace it. Some AutoZone locations will rent a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set. Doing your own repair means the total repair cost is only the sum of the new AC condenser and refrigerant. The inlet/outlet NPT fittings on this cooler need to be tighter than you think. I was worried about stripping the threads, and didn't tighten them enough at first. I ended up removing my bumper cover multiple times to tighten them until they stopped leaking. I found the best way to detect a leak was to zip-tie a folded paper towel below the fitting. If it turned red, there was a leak. For my application, I would have preferred built-in 3/8" hose barb inlets instead of the 1/2" NPT fittings. 242582

Cooler looks to be good but hose clamps were junk and hose was too short. Had to buy clamps and more hose. 790015

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

Installed I about an hour in my ‘09 Tahoe. Been in for a week now and lowered the tranny temp an average of 15-20 degrees. I definitely needed the extra hose that was suggested in other reviews. I actually, accidentally, ordered 2 extra so or goes on my “overs” shelf. No trailer hauling yet but will be pulling a 8x16, 4000lb about 2 hours on Friday. That’s my real test. 707691

Good product, but don't make the mistake I made like drilling a hole in the air conditioner condenser. Should have put a piece of metal or something in case my drill went through too fast. Well, live and learn. Bob 432368

2011 Lincoln LS

Kind of an easy install on a 2011 Chevy Traverse LS. Fast shipping. Taking a long trip in a couple weeks towing a 3500 lb travel trailer. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for all of the products etrailer has supplied to make my LS tow ready! 189591

2010 Chevrolet Silverado

Product really works well drop trans temp on Silverado from 160 to 125 degrees F. Could not find additional 11/32" tubing so Used 3/8" trans hose for connection- worked fine. Also I mounted on side with inlet at bottom to maximize cooling. 108166

2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Installed on a 2005 Chevy Suburban 5.3 V8 and took about 2 hours from start to finish. Installation was simple and was able to mount on the A frame in front of the radiator. Installation instructions was clear and was helpful with determine the supply and return lines. Fittings matched up perfect with no need to change out. I had to purchase another 4' of hose but the cooler was a lot simpler to install than I had expected. 32710

Ask the Experts about this Derale Transmission Coolers

  • What is the Difference Between Class IV and V Transmission Coolers
The higher the Class of transmission cooler the more efficient it is and the more cooling capabilities it has. Basically, the Class of a cooler is supposed to reflect the Class trailer hitch you have. So if you have a Class III hitch you would use a Class III cooler. But you can use any cooler that you want and going with the largest or most efficient cooler that will fit is actually recommended because transmission fluid cannot be over cooled. I have included a link to our help article...

  • Installation of Largest Transmission Cooler on a 2011 Dodge Nitro
As far as transmission coolers go, you cannot cool transmission fluid too much, so installing the largest cooler that the space on your 2011 Dodge Nitro will allow is perfectly fine and will benefit your transmission the most. Ideally you want the transmission fluid to be between 160 and 200 degrees for the best operation and longest life from the transmission. Transmission coolers are a universal fit item, so as long as you have space in front of your air conditioning condenser, or...

  • Transmission Cooler For 2005 Acura RL
For your 2005 Acura RL you want to select the correct transmission cooler by determining where there is enough space to mount it. If after measuring you find you have enough space, the cooler you referenced, part # D13613, would work well for you. I have attached a drawing that shows 3 positions for mounting transmission coolers. Transmission coolers are much more efficient when they are positioned to receive maximum air flow. At position 1, the transmission cooler is 100 percent efficient....

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2008 Chevy Silverado with 6.0 Liter Engine
There are a couple of differences between the 8000 series Derale transmission coolers like # D13504, and the 9000 series like # D13613. First, the 8000 Series features furnace-brazed aluminum construction, integrated high flow 3/4 inch turbulators for cooling efficiency, and 11/32 inch hose barb inlets. The 9000 series also features a furnace-brazed aluminum construction, but it has integrated high flow 1-1/4 inch turbulators for even more efficiency. It also uses 1/2 inch NPT female...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2003 Acura MDX
I would suggest the largest plate and fin transmission cooler that will fit on your vehicle to provide the most cooling.Transmission coolers are flow through devices so you can pretty much use any transmission cooler you want as long as it will fit in your vehicle. You cannot cool the transmission fluid too much so there is no worry of installing a cooler that is too large. The only precaution with a very large cooler is to let the engine warm a bit on bitterly cold days before taking...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4.8L
If your transmission temperature is exceeding 200 degrees Fahrenheit, I would recommend adding a supplemental transmission cooler. One of the leading causes for transmission failure is overheating and decreasing your transmission temperature will prolong the life of your transmission. For your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, I recommend installing the largest transmission cooler that will fit in front of your AC condenser or radiator. If you have the space available, I recommend installing...

  • What is Included in Tow Package on a 2008 Toyota Highlander
The features and equipment that constitute an auto maker's OEM "tow package" can vary by vehicle manufacturer, vehicle model and model year. Auto makers may change the elements of a "tow package" for any number of reasons. The best way to determine exactly what your particular Highlander's equipment and capacities are is to contact your local dealership with the VIN number. They can then determine exactly how it is equipped. If you have need for a weight distribution system for your...

We can help you with a supplementary transmission cooler for your 2009 Nissan Armada SE 2WD to reduce its operating temperature when you tow your new Forest River travel trailer. For a standard passive cooler that mounts in front of your AC condenser I suggest the Derale Class III model # D13503. This will provide significant additional cooling of your transmission fluid. For a higher-capacity passive option the Class IV model # D13613 is a good choice. If you happen to often tow...

  • Recommended Derale Transmission Cooler for 1997 GMC Safari
Both the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler # D13613 and # D13612 will work for your application but I recommend going with the slightly larger # D13613. The 8-7/8 inch height on this unit (compared to 6-3/8 inches on the # D13612) will provide more space for the fluid to travel and thus allow for more efficient cooling on your GMC Safari.
