11" Wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep, efficient heat exchanger will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance. Specifically designed for Ford F-150s with late-model, electronic overdrive transmissions.

Features:

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter
  • Recommended for mid-size cars, trucks and SUVs

Specs:

  • Inlets: 11/32" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 10-1/4"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-1/8" tall by either 5-1/4" or 6-3/4" wide
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

Video Transcript for Derale Series 8000 Transmission Cooler Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at the Derale 8000 Series line of plate-fin transmission coolers. Here's what our transmission cooler looks like installed. Now, the reason you're gonna want an auxiliary transmission cooler such as this one on your vehicle is quite simple. Heat is the enemy of transmissions. It is the number one cause of premature failure on your transmission. By reducing the temperature of the fluid inside your transmission, you will extend the life of it, and also have added cooling abilities.

The colder the transmission fluid is, the more heat it can actually absorb. Plus, we are expanding the cooling capacity of the system by having additional room for more fluid, which, will also help reduce the temperature. Now, you may ask, "How is this important to me because my vehicle already has a transmission cooler build inside the radiator" Well, it's quite simple. If you we're ever planning on doing aggressive driving, or towing a trailer, towing a trailer causes additional wear and tear on your transmission, and causes increased fluid temperature. By cooling the temperature down further, you are making it easier on your vehicle in order to tow that extra weight. Now, how this works being installing in addition to the factory cooler inside the radiator, the fluid will leave the factory transmission cooler from the radiator, go inside of our auxiliary cooler here that we installed, get cooled down even further, and then go back into the return line that goes into your transmission.

So, you're adding additional cooling capacity, and a secondary cooler by having this aftermarket cooler installed. Now, for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing if this cooler's gonna work for your vehicle. At its widest point, it's 11" wide. From the very top to the very bottom, it's 7 1/4" tall, and it is 7/8 of an inch thick. Now, one thing our customers have noticed, when they're installing this cooler on a vehicle, they have noticed when they're installing it inline with the factory transmission cooler, that they have needed additional hose. Now, we do have additional hose available on our website.

Now, the 8000 Series of Derale transmission coolers are plate-fin design, and the plate-fin design increase surface area. The more surface area that we have, the more cooling capacity that we have. The more of your fluid you can spread out over a larger distance, the more it can get cooled down to reduce the temperature of your transmission. This cooler also features turbulator technology to help agitate the fluid passing through it. To help with heat transfer, but also to help prevent any drop in fluid pressure. Our transmission operates off fluid pressure, so if it falls below a certain amount, it may not shift gears properly.

By maintaining our fluid pressure, our transmission will shift gears properly, and work as it's designed. This cooler has an aluminum construction, so we don't need to worry about it corroding or rusting out over the course of time. It also has a nice gloss black finish, so it'll be easily concealed behind the grill of your vehicle, and it won't be visible are you're looking at the front of your car.And that completes our look at the Derale 8000 Series line of plate-fin transmission coolers.

Haven't tried pulling my trailer up a long hill yet, but the cooler looks good. The instructions were very helpful, even though I couldn't mount it exactly as suggested. 196916

Great quality add on, I have bought less expensive transmission coolers, but this one has OEM quality. Well built, it will most likely outlast the vehicle I am installing it on. 488096

1989 Oldsmobile 88

I received my cooler for my 1989 Olds 88 in record time (e.g. 2 days)! After reading the instructions, I saw that the manufacturer recommends the cooler be installed in series with the cooler integral to the cars radiator. This requied addtional hose (about 3ft.). The local auto parts store carried 5/16" hose (same hose ID but a different mfr than that supplied) but found the auto parts store hose next to impossilbe to place over the cooler header fitting. I was able to install a clamp before the tubing walked itself off. I would recommend taking the cooler to the parts store and fit it up with a hose that fits properly if you need to get extra for installation. I appreciated the video that was available on your website to familiarize myself with the installation before I attempted the project. I have yet to put it to the test with a trailer in tow. Seems to be quality product. The instructions were well written. Thanks! 23813

2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

The cooler is a great add-on to help guarantee the life of my transmission in my 2007 Chevy Trailblazer. The size was perfect for mounting just behind my grill and well in front of the stock radiator with barely any modification/trimming of the surrounding plastic. I have no real world temperatures but I am happy knowing the the temps in my transmission are at least a little bit cooler. The only mist-step is the included mounting pieces. While handy to get things in place after forgetting to pick-up bolts, washers and nuts, the plastic ties really didn't hold up well for the 2 weeks until I removed them. They also don't play well with the bendable mounting kit unless you have something to eat up the space when the ties are tightened as far as they can go. Again, it's minor and had I remembered to purchase the hardware I eventually used prior to the actual install, I probably wouldn't even be writing this. Also, the hose is certainly not long enough for my application. 141336

I just want to thank the customer service team at etrailer.com. I got very quick responses with very helpful and educated professional answers within minutes through email. The product selection and prices are great and so is the service team. I didn't get to install my new transmission cooler yet but I can say the kit has every single thing I need including awesome instructions with clear diagrams and everything and the staff was very helpful helping me choose what fittings I needed to avoid having to cut my stock transmission lines. They seem to have all their bases covered. I'll provide pictures after the install. Thanks etrailer staff I appreciate all the info and great products. Keep it up. Neil Borne 231819

2013 GMC Canyon

Purchased this product for my 2013 Nissan SV as was pulling a 23 ft RV on a 6500 mile out west trip from Fl. to NY, via Grand Canyon, Yellow Stone NP, and Mt. Rushmore. Had some 7% & 8% Mts. to climb, so put extra cooler on as protection. Granted, this was a second cooler, but for the money, figured well worth it. The whole trip went absolutely problem free. Trans. never got above normal operating temp. Sooooooo--for my money, this product performed better than i presumed it would. If your not sure if you need it, for the cost, but it anyway. Installation very simple, and results speak for themselves. 468695

Product was just as expcted but I did not care for the mounting so I made my own mount, two bars across the bracket that holds the hood release. This centered the unit near the bottom, for the connections the new hose reached a hose between two steel lines from the outlet of the factory cooler. I bought two 3/8 barbed couplings and 4 more hose clamps I cut the factory hose and series the unit to these hoses a few tyraps to stop chafing and i was done. 73520

where is the cooler on a 1994 eagle vision

Most passenger cars do not have factory installed transmission coolers, including the Vision in all likelihood. On that car you will find a radiator for cooling the engine block and an A/C compressor condensor. If the Vision did have one, it would be integrated into the radiator at one of th corners.

Just installed this today on 2007 Honda Odyssey. JUST enough hose. Enough hose clamps if you reuse the factory ones on the trans connections. Did not need to take the bumper or bumper cover off, just the grill, and top and bottom covers. However, this makes it very difficult to get those zip rods attached. It was possible, but I had to get my tiny wife to fit her hands down there for the bottom ones. Now, lets see if it will save my tranny when I start towing 3500 lbs for 2 months and 4000 miles... will have to report back then and give a real rating then. 251259

The cooler arrived intact on my doorstep with all the parts and pieces present, and it took about two hours to install the unit. I needed to fabricate some mounting brackets as I didn't want to use the plastic ties that go through the radiator. I have a 2011 Subaru Outback with a 3.6 motor and a 5 speed automatic. I frequently tow a boat and need to keep the tranny cool, specially during the summer months. The installation is pretty straight forward as per instructions that are included. Each vehicle will be a bit different but a home mechanic should be able to install this cooler fairly easily. 6830

Excellent transmission cooler with fairly easy installation. I chose to mount mine to brackets in front of the radiator rather than by pushing mounting rods through the radiator condenser. Plans for my 4-cyl Tacoma were initially for pulling a utility trailer out to my land and back. Wife wanted to get an RV and take trips. All of my purchases and installations from etrailer were based on the expert advice from the sales people. And, I actually purchased and installed all the parts before we bought an RV. This shows you that the installation videos are spot on. I could never hook up a trailer and 'try it out'. But everything worked perfectly. I kept all the weights under limit, used a weight distribution hitch, brake controller, Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, and side mirrors, along with the class III hitch, and 4 pin and 7 pin wiring harness that I installed. My Tacoma is only rated for towing 3500# but we never had a problem pulling a 3000# load. 65 was tops on the speed and that was on a straight road. My scan gauge indicated that my transmission temp stayed at 165 except for when we traveled through stop and go city traffic. Then it rose to 185/190 for short times. Back on the road and it dropped to 165/170 a gain. I was really impressed with this little cooler. 524627

So far so good. Just installed the cooler a couple days ago getting ready for a move trailing a full load for 1000mi. Install guide and descriptions are very generic and therefore require a bit forethought and pre-work. Will see how the product will hold up in the long run. Shipping and transactions with etrailer have been excellent once again. 81679

I am submitting this review even though all of your customers MUST know you have one of the best, if not THE best, trailer company in the USA. You have the best products, the best selection for various applications, and no other company can beat your prices... I already purchased a lot of your products and believe me when I say I did extensive research on the exact same products before submitting my orders due to my limited funds. All of your staff are kind, courteous, patient (when it comes to helping a trailer-newbie, such as myself) understanding, very knowledgeable, and professional. Submitting an order is easy, and all of my various orders where shipped almost instantaneously and arrived on schedule. You are the best... and then, there are all the rest! Thank you for having such a great operation! 526514

This was recommended by etrailer for my Traverse. It was fairly easy to install, (mostly with help from YouTube videos). I took my time and it took about 3 hours. If I did it again it could probably be done in an hour or less. It's been a year of towing an 18' ski boat and it has totally done the job. That adapter that is recommended with this is vital as far as I can tell. 430529

The installation videos alone are great, but the the thought that goes into the gagets they ship with the hitches to get the job done at home is amazing. There customer service is great also. If you plan on towing often, I recommend using a supplemental transmission cooler such as the Derale # D13502. Also, please keep in mind the use of Curt hitch # C13119 is going to require the use of stabilizing...

  • Should Additional Transmission Cooler be Used When Towing at Max Capacity with 2014 Pathfinder
  • If you are planning on maxing out the 5,000 lb towing capacity of your 2014 Nissan Pathfinder then yes, it would be wise to install a supplemental transmission cooler like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13502. Since you will really be pushing your transmission to its limits this additional cooler will help to reduce some of the heat stress, but towing at max capacity will still be pretty rough on your vehicle. I also recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight...

  • Recommended Items To Make 2018 Toyota Sienna Tow Ready
  • Yes, if you are going with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76112, add a transmission cooling is always a plus to preserve the life of your vehicle. I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13502. This is one of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. The overall dimensions are 11" wide...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for 5.3L Silverado 1500 Towing 5K Travel Trailer in Mountains
  • Since transmission coolers are not really vehicle-specific you are free to use as large and efficient a cooler as you have space to mount one. Generally the best mounting point for a passive cooler is right in front of the AC condenser where the cooler will receive maximum air flow for best cooling. Lots of helpful general information can be found in the two linked articles concerning transmission coolers. All coolers recommended for your 5.3L 1500 are shown on the linked page. You...

  • What You Need To Tow A Trailer With A 2017 Toyota Rav4
  • In order to tow a trailer with your 2017 Toyota Rav4, you will need a trailer hitch receiver, wiring harness, and ball mount with hitch ball. For this, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75235 as this hitch receiver has the highest rated weight capacity for all our RAV4 hitches. For a ball mount, I recommend using the Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop part # 2923 with our 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter part # 63845. You will also need a wiring harness...

  • 2005 Toyota Highlander Brake Controller and Install Recommendation
  • You can install a brake controller in your 2005 Toyota Highlander, but there isn't a plug-in harness available for your vehicle since it does not come pre-wired for a controller like some vehicles do. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118413. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part #...

  • Differences Between Derale Transmission Cooler Derale D13503, D13504, and D13502
  • The differerence between the three coolers you mentioned is the size overall. The # D13503 measures 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep. The part # D13502 measures 11" Wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep (slightly shorter) and the part # D13504 measures 11" Wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep. We recommend fitting the biggest cooler you can fit in the available space in front of the radiator.

  • Fitting Adapter for Transmission Cooler to Go From 5/16 inch Hose to 11/32 inch
  • Since you have 5/16 inch lines and the hose that comes with the kit is 11/32 the fitting you need is the part # D13031 which is designed just for this. The cooler can install vertically or horizontally too. Either way will work just as fine.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • The best way to use a supplemental transmission cooler is to have the fluid go from the factory cooler then to the supplemental cooler as this will maximize cooling power. For a full size truck like yours I'd recommend a larger cooler like the Derale part # D13504 which measures 11" Wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep. You'll also want the fitting adapter part # D13035 which will make installing the cooler much easier.

  • What is Meant by the Different Classes of Transmission Coolers
  • Transmission and oil coolers are given class designations since we are in the towing business and those who tow are used to seeing class designations on hitches, ball mounts, etc. The idea is to give a general idea of the cooler's capacity, so if your vehicle has a class III hitch then a class III cooler should be fine. However, since coolers are NOT vehicle-specific you can use as large a cooler as you have space to mount it. There are various types of coolers and they can be either...

  • Additional Hose Needed for Installing the Derale Series 8000 Kit # D13502 on a 2016 Nissan Frontier
  • Depending on where you install the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13502 on your 2016 Nissan Frontier, you may or may not need some additional hose. As you saw from the installation video on a 2014 Frontier (which is linked), some additional hose was required for the install. You can aquire new hose from our site using part # D13003 should you need it. This hose is 4 feet long and should be enough for your application. You may also need some additional clamps...

  • Is a Transmission Cooler Required for a 2016 Honda Odyssey to Tow a 1,600 lb Pop-up Camper
  • As always, you will want to make sure that you start off by checking your owner's manual to see if there are any specifications when you are towing with your 2016 Honda Odyssey. I looked at your owner's manual and it looked like Honda requires the installation of an additional transmission cooler in order to tow, but you will want to double check as well. The next thing to note is that it is never a bad thing to add a supplemental cooler to your vehicle when towing. You cannot cool your...
