2005 Dodge Grand Caravan - Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/ NPT Inlets - Class IV - Extra Efficient

  • Plate-Fin Cooler
  • With 1/2 Inch NPT
  • Standard Mount
  • 11W x 8-7/8T x 1-1/4D Inch
  • Derale

11" Wide x 8-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep, radiator-style heat exchanger improves the performance and overall functioning of your Dodge Grand Caravan's transmission. Includes hose-barb adapters to fit the 1/2" NPT inlets.

Features:

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 1-1/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps, Insta-dapt radiator adapter and hose-barb fittings
  • Recommended for full-size trucks and SUVs

Specs:

  • Inlets: 1/2" NPT
  • Fittings: 1/2" NPT x 3/8" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 8-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 8-7/8"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-3/4" wide x 8" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

I had this installed and after 1 month it started to leak from the fins. I ordered another, had it installed and it has worked with no problems. etrailer took the defective cooler back no problem and gave me a full refund. Excellent customer service

One year in and I’ve had no problems. No leaks and it still seems to be working fine.

by:

Exactly as described, looks and feels well made. Mounting and. hookup was straightforward and reasonably simple. Working perfectly so far. Love all the videos of products! This helps so much. Keep up the great job.

by:

My vehicle originally did not have a transmission cooler. After warming up, my transmission temperature would typically be 100 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature, whether moving or stopped. Towing the largest enclosed U-Haul trailer (6'x12') would raise the temperature to about 120 degrees above ambient.

After adding this cooler, the transmission stays about 70 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature on the highway, and 80-85 degrees above ambient while parked or driving in slow traffic. I haven't towed that same U-Haul trailer since adding the cooler, but towing a much larger (8.5'x20') enclosed trailer raises the temperature to about 110 degrees above ambient.

If you can find a spot the cooler will physically fit, it should work for your vehicle. You may have to get creative to solidly mount it. I used an angle grinder to remove part of a factory brace. When doing work in this area of your vehicle, be careful not to puncture the AC condenser! If you do, like I did, you will have to replace it. Some AutoZone locations will rent a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set. Doing your own repair means the total repair cost is only the sum of the new AC condenser and refrigerant.

The inlet/outlet NPT fittings on this cooler need to be tighter than you think. I was worried about stripping the threads, and didn't tighten them enough at first. I ended up removing my bumper cover multiple times to tighten them until they stopped leaking. I found the best way to detect a leak was to zip-tie a folded paper towel below the fitting. If it turned red, there was a leak. For my application, I would have preferred built-in 3/8" hose barb inlets instead of the 1/2" NPT fittings.

by:

The first cooler leaked within 1 month of installation but I returned it for a full refund, got another, and the second one has worked perfectly for the last year. etrailer has customer service second to none!

2006 GMC 1500

2006 GMC 1500
This product is solidly
designed and the installation kit well thought out. The connection hose was heavier and better quality than what the auto parts store could provide. I will be adding additional clamps to the connections so there are two on each just as a precaution against leakage. The single clamps are working well for my test period. I fabricated brackets for mine but using the plastic pins would work just as well. It is a huge improvement over the factory cooler. I would recommend it to anyone that is towing near or at truck capacity.

The cooler is working flawlessly. I replaced the clamps with 12 PEX pipe crimps for a better seal. The transmission has operated within safe temps while towing 7000 lbs on I-70 over the Rocky Mountains. It is a worthy product!

by:

Installation was relatively easy- quality product.

by:

Pretty easy to install. Worked great. Prior to adding this transmission cooler my transmission temps would routinely go over 200F so before I installed the cooler I had my transmission serviced. Thankfully no issues or burnt ATF. After installation the temps never went over 190F even towing in the south Louisiana heat. Great product and I'd buy again if needed.

2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Installed on a 2005 Chevy Suburban 5.3 V8 and took about 2 hours from start to finish. Installation was simple and was able to mount on the A frame in front of the radiator. Installation instructions was clear and was helpful with determine the supply and return lines. Fittings matched up perfect with no need to change out. I had to purchase another 4' of hose but the cooler was a lot simpler to install than I had expected.

by:

Good product, but don't make the mistake I made like drilling a hole in the air conditioner condenser. Should have put a piece of metal or something in case my drill went through too fast. Well, live and learn. Bob

2011 Lincoln LS

Kind of an easy install on a 2011 Chevy Traverse LS. Fast shipping. Taking a long trip in a couple weeks towing a 3500 lb travel trailer. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks for all of the products etrailer has supplied to make my LS tow ready!

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

Installed I about an hour in my ‘09 Tahoe. Been in for a week now and lowered the tranny temp an average of 15-20 degrees. I definitely needed the extra hose that was suggested in other reviews. I actually, accidentally, ordered 2 extra so or goes on my “overs” shelf. No trailer hauling yet but will be pulling a 8x16, 4000lb about 2 hours on Friday. That’s my real test.

by:

Cooler looks to be good but hose clamps were junk and hose was too short. Had to buy clamps and more hose.

2017 Nissan Armada

Installed on a 2017 Armada and has worked great for this last year.

2010 Chevrolet Silverado

Product really works well drop trans temp on Silverado from 160 to 125 degrees F. Could not find additional 11/32" tubing so Used 3/8" trans hose for connection- worked fine. Also I mounted on side with inlet at bottom to maximize cooling.

by:

Great product, no issues.

The product is great, the only issue I had was that it did not have the correct connectors for the Jeep Wrangler, but I was able to get some quickly. It's kept my Jeep's Trans fluid temp nice and cool, even when pulling my 3k pound travel trailer.. GREAT!

by:

Easy to install and has worked great on my '06 4Runner v6. A little extra piece of mind for the mountains. This size just barely fits on the passenger side of the radiator - there is a central, vertical support bar behind the grill that prevents a wider cooler from fitting.

by:

Great product, it was as described online, and arrived on time, would definitely purchase again!

by:

I can not install the transmission cooler BECAUSE the other parts ordered has not arrived.

  • Transmission Cooler For 2005 Acura RL
For your 2005 Acura RL you want to select the correct transmission cooler by determining where there is enough space to mount it. If after measuring you find you have enough space, the cooler you referenced, part # D13613, would work well for you. I have attached a drawing that shows 3 positions for mounting transmission coolers. Transmission coolers are much more efficient when they are positioned to receive maximum air flow. At position 1, the transmission cooler is 100 percent efficient....

  • Installation of Largest Transmission Cooler on a 2011 Dodge Nitro
As far as transmission coolers go, you cannot cool transmission fluid too much, so installing the largest cooler that the space on your 2011 Dodge Nitro will allow is perfectly fine and will benefit your transmission the most. Ideally you want the transmission fluid to be between 160 and 200 degrees for the best operation and longest life from the transmission. Transmission coolers are a universal fit item, so as long as you have space in front of your air conditioning condenser, or between...

  • Will Towing Affect Transmission On 2012 Audi A7
If you are towing within the confines of the vehicle manufacturer, there should not be many adverse affects on wear or breakdown. That said, the main factor to transmission breakdown and wear is increased temperature so if you wanted to be sure to extend the life as much as possible you could add a transmission cooler. This is a pretty popular add-on for towing. I recommend the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13613.

I recommend the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13613 as an excellent extra efficient option which only requires 11" wide x 8-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep of space. It comes with everything needed for installation.

  • Should a Transmission Cooler Be installed On a Kia Sorento For Towing
It's not required to install a supplemental transmission cooler for towing on most vehicles but it's certainly not a bad idea either as it will help prolong and extend the life of the transmission. There's not really a certain weight to consider one but the larger the trailer is in relation to the vehicle, the more benefits you'll see from one. If you tow through mountains I recommend one at pretty much any weight I recommend the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part...

  • What is the Difference Between Class IV and V Transmission Coolers
The higher the Class of transmission cooler the more efficient it is and the more cooling capabilities it has. Basically, the Class of a cooler is supposed to reflect the Class trailer hitch you have. So if you have a Class III hitch you would use a Class III cooler. But you can use any cooler that you want and going with the largest or most efficient cooler that will fit is actually recommended because transmission fluid cannot be over cooled. • Why Install Transmission Cooler in Return Line Back To Transmission
When it comes to transmission coolers, unless you live in an extremely cold climate you can't over cool a transmission. Most vehicles will have a stock transmission cooler, it'll either have a separate heat exchanger or it'll have a cooling circuit in the vehicle's radiator. This typically does a pretty decent job unless the vehicle is being pushed to its limits by towing near its capacity or in hilly areas. Having the factory cooler act at a pre-cooler and the aftermarket cooler installed...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2019 Nissan Frontier
If so equipped, the factory transmission cooler would either be a separate unit sitting in front of the existing radiator, right behind the grille or you might have a dual-core radiator that has two separate zones or cores, one for the transmission fluid and another for engine coolant. This is a plate-and-fin cooler, which means it uses smaller plates that cover more area than other coolers in order to agitate transmission fluid.
