It complements various setups, ensuring functionality across a wide array of truck models and years.

Harness Durability: Built for Long-Term Performance

Video Transcript for Tow Ready Replacement 7-Way Harness and Socket for Factory Tow Package Feature Review

Hi there, towing enthusiasts. Today we're going to be taking a look at Tow Ready's replacement seven-pole pigtail harness. This replacement harness will work with any seven-way connector that uses a standard round plug at the back. So if you have a damaged harness on your vehicle, you can simply buy this, cut out your old wiring and splice in your new harness. What else I like about this harness is that it comes with heat shrink butt connectors for all of our connections, and they provided the appropriate sizes, as some of your wires on your seven-pole use larger diameter wires. So we've got our yellow butt connector here for the heavier gauge wiring and blue butt connectors for our lighter gauge wiring.

By utilizing heat shrink butt connectors, instead of your standard butt connector, our replacement harness is going to have a significantly longer life, because we're going to be keeping all the moisture out from inside of our connections when we splice them together, which is going to result in corrosion not occurring. Whereas if you use standard butt connectors, moisture can easily get down in there and cause your connections to deteriorate quite rapidly. We're replacing the factory harness on our motor home here because we have damaged wiring and missing pins in our connector. We would need a fully operational seven way on this. So we're just going to cut out this old one, getting rid of these wires here on this side, where we had one that was already damaged. We've already cut it here.

And we're going to put our new one in. Now one of the things you're going to notice is the color wires. Now this does have all the same color wires on our factory connector here, but they are in different locations and that's not uncommon on your motor homes and some of your vehicles to have wire color coatings not in the standard position. So since they do have the same colors, but they're in different positions, we can't just simply take these wires, cut them and then match our colors back up because then our pins are going to be in the wrong location. So what I'd recommend you do rather than trying to match colors on any vehicle is to just do them one wire at a time. So that way you can verify you're putting the correct wire in the correct location.

So if we hold them up here side by side, we can see them here. I've already cut this wire, which was a blue wire on our factory connector. And that does match up with the blue wire here on our new connector. But if we go to the left one pin, we've got a brown wire on our new connector and it's a green wire on our factory connector. So we already know that when I cut this green wire here, I'm going to have to splice it to the brown wire on this connector for it to be in the exact same pin location and give us the same operation that we had before. So since our blue wire was already damaged, I've already got it cut here.

We're going to start with that one. We already verified that the blue wire here did match up with the blue on our connector. So we're going to strip back on the other side here, because this is where we're going to be connecting our new connector to. We'll now take our new harness. We've got the blue wire here. We've pre-crimped on butt connectors on all of those wires. Now I'm going to connect to the other end of the butt connector for the blue wire to the blue wire that we had cut here. Once we get this wire crimped, we're then just going to repeat this process that we did before of holding our connectors up to one another, looking at the wire colors side by side at the back, making sure you've got them the same, because I do want to point this out too. There's a little tab there that you think that's maybe the release tab. This is the release tab here. So don't get these confused and hold them up with the release tab and this other little tab there. You want to make sure you've got the same tabs when you're doing this as well.So we're just going to move on one at a time, cutting and crimping on our new wires now. Now that we've got all of our wires connected, all we need to do is heat shrink down our butt connectors. So we're going to grab a heat gun and then just heat all those up and they'll shrink down. Once you've got all of your wires heat shrink down, then simply plug your round connector into the back of your seven-pole.And that completes our look at Tow Ready's Replacement Pigtail Harness for your seven-way connector.

In searching for a replacement part I immediately came to your website of course. There were two separate videos. One video describing the part and another actually installing the part. Very informative. The part was perfect and installed exactly as video showed. Thank you very much for all your informative videos.

by:

This part appears and feels well made. Needed to replace a broken plug

by:

Quality product. Comes with everything you need to install. Just watch your colors. Not a color to color install for my 07 GMC 2500 but very easy.

Item was as pictured and worked exactly as advertised. I had a rotted out unit in my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 and this splice and cut into the line could not have been easier. The videos that the company sent in addition to the item were super helpful on how to keep the right cords lined up when replacing the unit.

Thanks!

When all the auto stores said it was a junk yard only item because not even the dealership would sell the pigtail, etrailer.com proved them wrong. My pigtail was corroded and I didn't want to spend hours trying to find another one at the junk yard. It looks and feel just like factory minus where I had to join them together.

Works like it should from the GM factory.

I purchased this to repair the plug on my 06 F350, the pins were corroded and it had some old splices in the harness from where a 5th wheel plug had been wired in. The pigtail was long enough to cut all the prior splices out and the connector is a good quality. I was a little disappointed in the 12V, ground and brake control wires not being as heavy as the truck wiring, but I don't think it's enough to make a difference. The self-shrinking connectors are of good quality and the connector is a weather pack style. I would suggest dielectric grease on the pins and inside the connector to give you added protection from water entry and corrosion, you can get dielectric grease here and its good to have for your trailer plug as well!

by:

Worked great for me. I used it to build a trailer light breakout box to test the brakes and lights without the trailer needing to be hooked up to a tow vehicle.

by:

The harness worked great. Truck was totaled by a drunk driver but i took the harness out before it was towed. I wasnt giving up a good wiring harness. Thanks etrailer

by:

Harness was exactly what I needed. Website was pretty
Easy to use in terms of making sure I bought the right part including multiple pictures to really
Make things clear. It came with all the butt splice connectors needed and they’re even heat shrink sealable which is a huge bonus. Highly recommended! I’ll be back here for more products in the future. Wish I bought the other parts here

Well I fixed my brake control problem on my Ford F-250 Super Duty. I learned how to bench test my Tekonsha 9030 Voyager brake control from your website and ruled it out, then I focused on the wiring harness at the hitch. The 7 way plug worked in the bed at the fifth wheel, but not at the hitch. I checked for continuity at the wire harness connector and the 7 way plug and discovered that the connector end of the harness was bad. I ordered the splice in style Tow Ready Replacement 7-Way Harness and Socket for Factory Tow Package and that solved the issue. I found that the corresponding wires on the replacement were not all the colors as the corresponding OEM wires, so I matched them up by position without further issue. I pleased with the outcome and price I paid for the product.

by:

Pigtail is heavy duty and butt connectors are also of a good quality. Worked perfect as a replacement for my broken factory one.

by:

Honestly the wiring harness could been Longer so I can hook directly to my junction box , but other wise worked as stated come with clear wiring diagram

by:

This connector and pigtail was the perfect fit on my Ford F150 vehicle harness. Easy to install with video instructions. Loved the heat shrink butt connectors that came with it!

by:

The part I wanted was easy to find and came much quicker than I expected

by:

It was the exact part I needed and it came in record time. Thanks for the great service. This is not the first time I get this quality service from you folks. Very Satisfied

by:

Use this to replace the factory connector on my GM that was constantly popping fuses. Works great and haven't had any issues in over a year now.

by:

I’ve never bought anything at etrailer that didn’t satisfy me to the fullest. I’ll continue my business with etrailer anytime I need anything trailer related. Thank you, etrailer!!

by:

worked perfect. easy hookup. heavy duty. better replacement than factory. can't go wrong with this setup.

by:

Fits great. Takes a little extra work since the pickup factory wires are not the same colors as the plug wires.

by:

Product arrived quickly, and was exactly as described on the website. Product was easy to install and quality was top notch. I would definitely recommend etrailer for any of your trailer accessory needs!

by:

I just installed the harness on our F350 Ford 2014. I appreciated that the harness included heat shrink connectors for easy installation. Also the video for the details of installing it was very clear and helpful.

by:

Good product, fast shipping, colors of each wire was not exact for 2011 Silverado but it's easy to use placement of wire to figure out which wire connects to current wires on truck, total install time of about an hour if you really take your time.

by:

So glad I purchased this item before we took our motorhome on it's first trip! The one that was on it would not have worked with our Jeep. Great product and customer service.

by:

Just what I needed to repair the broken connector on my truck although I did solder and shrink wrap the splices.

  • Parts Needed To Add Hopkins 7/4 Pole Connector To a 2020 Ford F-150 With Factory 4-Way
I have a couple ways you can install the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 on your 2020 Ford F-150 with a 4-way flat factory connector. The first is going to be the easiest but is more costly. You will use the harness from the Curt 7-Way # C56413 and connect to the connector you found. The Curt harness will connect to the factory wiring as seen in the installation video I have linked near the bottom of the page. Otherwise we do have the Hard Wire Connector # 20147 which...

  • Options For Replacing A Broken 7-Way Connector
Hello Evan. I do have a solution for you, but I am afraid we do not offer a product that will fit your exact description. We do offer a few 7-way extensions that could potentially be used. Something like the TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension # TLW6021. This will plug into the old 7-way and give you a new 7-way plug. It is 21" long though, so you would have to come up with a way to hide all the extra cord. You can use that with a bracket # A10-9394VP for a clean installation. Keep in mind...

If the in-bed 7-Way on your 2002 Ford F-350 was damaged then you likely need to replace the entire wiring harness with something like the Hopkins # 41157. It would be best to inspect the connectors for any damage as well. As far as fuses go, if you turn to page 162 in your copy of the owner's manual you should see that the fuses in locations 6, 38, 101, 115, and 305 are for the various trailer functions. Aside from this if you're still having issues you'd need to take your pickup to a...
