Video Transcript for Tekonsha Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 20250 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 20250. This is the Tow Ready 4-way hardwire kit with the insulated butt connectors. This piece would work in a situation where maybe you have a damaged 4-way on your harness on your vehicle and you need to replace it. You could just wire this one in. Or, if you have a wiring harness that does not have a 4-way on the end, maybe it needs to be completed. You could also attach this to have a 4-way. It does use these wires, are all a 16-gauge bonded wire.

The other nice thing is if you look real closely on the wires, they are stamped with the functions on each wire. Basically, the white is your ground, your brown is your tail lights, your yellow would be your left turn and brake signal, and the green would be your right turn and brake signal. Again, they are stamped on the wire if you need that. What we do recommend when you do install this, instead of just doing color to color, sometimes just to make sure is what you want to do is take a circuit tester and test the wires on the car to make sure you wired them up correctly. They do include these four insulated butt connectors to actually help you install these and get a good, correct seal to the wires. The ground wire, if you notice, runs the full length of the whole harness itself also.

The wire leads measure 12 inches long. If you notice the 4-way, again, this is a vehicle end 4-way. It comes with an included dust cap so when you're not using the 4-way, you just put it right on there, protect it from any of the elements or from getting damaged. That should do it for the review on part number 20250, the Tow Ready 4-way hardwire kit with the insulated butt connectors. .

  • How to Install a 4-Way on a 2015 GMC Canyon
I am not sure what plug you are referring to nor would I be able to tell you of its functions but I can tell you it is not for a trailer wiring harness and there is none on your 2015 GMC Canyon so your only option will be to hardwire. However, the wires are already ran to the rear bumper which you can see at the 1:40 mark in the attached video. For just a basic 4-flat you can use the Tow Ready 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Insulated Butt Connectors part # 20250. The correct functions of the...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights that Stop Working When Connector is Completely Connected
Most likely you need to clean the connector on your tow vehicle and on the trailer. One or both of them is likely corroded causing the issue when you fully connect the two together. It also could be a loose pin on either connector. You'll need to inspect them and inspect the wiring going into the back of each connector. If you still can't solve the problem let me know what you have found and we'll keep troubleshooting.

  • Instructions for Hardwiring 2005 Ford Focus ZX3
You would not want to use part # 20250 to hardwire your vehicle, the wire leads are only 12 inches long as this part is intended as a replacement for a broken or damaged connector. Instead I would suggest using part # 18252. The wire leads are 72 inches long, it includes 4 Scotch-Lock connectors and a circuit tester to help you find what wires you need to tap into. The white wire is a ground wire and needs to be connected to another ground wire that attaches to the vehicle frame. The...

  • 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness for 2002 GMC Sierra
If your 2002 GMC Sierra does not have a round U.S. Car connector to accept a 4-pole trailer wiring harness like # 118384 then it should have a bundle of wires tucked up above the spare tire (see the linked article, step 3, section B). The yellow wire is the left turn and brakes, dark green wire is the right turn and brakes, brown wire is for the taillights, and white is the ground. To these you can attach a 4-pole plug like # 20250 which includes the required butt connectors for splicing...

A square 6-pole trailer wiring connector is not a common enough of a connector for there to be an adapter for it to connect to a 4-way. Realistically your best option will be to remove the 6-way and replace it with a 4-way like the # 20250.

  • Do the Pacer Performance Hi-Five Lights Part # PP20-250 Line Up with my Existing Cab Light Holes
I reached out to Pacer Performance to get some clarification on whether the Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED Truck Cab Light Kit part # PP20-250 will line up directly or not and there is great news. These use OEM bases so they will line directly up to your current holes and allow you to change the look of them quite easily.

  • Wiring a 4-Way connector on a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider
The tail light wiring colors for your truck could be any color, manufacturers change wiring colors for many different reasons and often within the same model year. To determine the correct wires to use on your vehicle you will need to use a circuit tester, item # 40376 if needed, and test the wires behind the vehicle tail lights. On the drivers side you should be able to find a wire that carries the left turn/brake signal and a wire that carries the running light circuit. Connect the...

Since you have a 2004 Mercury Sable sedan, your vehicle will require a powered taillight converter like the Circuit Protected ModuLite Vehicle Wiring Harness with Hardwire Kit, # 119147KIT. This kit has an additional power wire that is needed to provide enough amperage to run the trailer lighting system. If you are not using this kit on a sedan, this is most likely the reason that you are having issues with the brake light circuit. If you are using a powered wiring harness, the first step...

Yes, you can splice in a new 4-Way flat vehicle end, such as # HM48190. This vehicle-side 4-Way also has LED test lights so its easy to determine if one of the circuits isn't working. Or for a regular short-length harness you can use # 20250.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Not Functioning on 2002 Ford Ranger
If the trailer wiring fuses and relays of your 2002 Ford Ranger look good and you still don't have trailer running lights most likely the problem is corrosion on the connectors. First thing you should do at this point is test the 4-way of the wiring harness with a circuit tester part # PTW2993 for voltage on all of the right pins when the taillight signals are being applied. Just like in the video I attached. You can also test the wire leading to the connector to determine if the connector...

  • Trailer Turn Signals Are Reversed
I've never heard of turn signals suddenly being reversed, but there are a number of possible causes. Just to verify, the first thing you'll want to do is use Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979 and test the connector on your vehicle after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your tail lights to see if those wires are carrying the correct signals. I'm going to assume they are but it's important to verify so that you can pin down the issue to the...

The first thing to do is take a look at your owner's manual to locate any trailer fuses or relays and ensure they are all there and in working order. If they are, in order to determine the specific problem you will need to purchase a circuit tester if you do not have one - the very handy Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979 - and test the connector on your vehicle after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your tail lights to see if those wires...

Sometimes a corroded or dirty connector can cause multiple circuits to become bridged together. This could cause the problem you're having. Even slight greenish or whitish discoloration...

  • Parts Needed to Extend a 4-Way Trailer Connector
You just need an extension loop like # HM47115 which is 48 inches long. If that is too long then we have a 12 inch extension # 9653P. If you want to make these extensions permanent then I recommend using some dielectric grease between the connections, # 11755, using zip ties to hold the connections together, and then using electrical tape to wrap it all up to protect it from the elements.

These require no testing, cutting or splicing of the truck's wiring, just plugging in the connectors and attaching the ground wire to a clean bare metal surface. Please...

  • 7-Way to 4-Way Adapter Recommendation
Typically 7-way connectors already have combined stoplight circuits so all you would need is an adapter like part # PK12716. The red wire of a 7-way is typically the left turn/stop circuit so you might verify with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 that the red wire you found doesn't also carry the blinker circuit. Otherwise you would need to make an adapter using a converter part # RM-732, 7-way # H20043, and 4-way # 20250.
