Tekonsha Trailer Wiring - 119178

  • Trailer Connectors
  • Vehicle End Connector
  • 4 Flat
  • Plug and Lead
  • 0 - 5 Feet Long
  • Tekonsha

Adapts import and domestic vehicles with separate turn and stop lights (3-Wire System) to standard trailer tail light wiring (2-Wire System).

  • Short circuit protection safeguards itself and the tow vehicle against harmful electrical shorts and mis-wire situations
  • Circuit automatically resets once the module cools
  • Adapts a 3-wire system on the towing vehicle to work with a 2-wire system on the trailer
  • Works with most multiplex wiring systems

  • Wire pigtail measures 18" long
  • 4-Pole trailer connector is 60" long from converter box

In a three wire system, a separate wire is used to carry each of the stop, turn, and running light functions to the tail light assembly. On most trailers, the stop and turn signal functions are sent through the same wire.

Warning: Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed:

  • Maximum stop/turn light: 2.1 amps per circuit
  • Maximum tail lights: 7.5 amps

Read vehicle's owners manual and instruction sheet for additional information.

Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - 119178

Average Customer Rating:  4.9 out of 5 stars   (32 Customer Reviews)

Adapts import and domestic vehicles with separate turn and stop lights (3-Wire System) to standard trailer tail light wiring (2-Wire System).

I installed this a year ago on a semi for electric brakes on a trailer. It was easy to install from the directions given by you guys and has worked great. Thanks!

Easy to install and no separate power required. Some of the other taillight converters require a dedicated 12V power source, which means routing power from the battery...not this unit! The unit is easy to install, but it doesn't come with the quick splice connectors, so order those as well if you don't want to solder and heat shrink. I installed this on a 2006 WRX which required partially removing some trunk carpet and 1 piece of trim (4 carpet fasteners and 2 plastic nuts). The demo video on for the 2007 WRX correctly identifies the wire colours (I checked). I have a 3rd brake light on my trailer, so I ran an additional brake light wire to the 5 pole plug I installed in place of the flat 4 connector that comes with this kit. If you aren't worried about scuffing the bumper with the wire hanging out the trunk, the flat 4 will work fine. I drilled a hole in the back panel of the trunk and routed the wires through a grommet and down to a PK11502 Pollak 5 pole socket plug.

Looks good, I will be putting on soon, anxious to get product and use

Went though multiple adapters from different manufactures for 2000 Toyota tundra in less than a year, installed this unit and it's still working, it is a little more involved but able to locate the main body where road spray won't kill it.

Still working in Minnesota.

Bill E. was extremely helpful answering my questions and ordering a replacement part that was no longer available from Valley after a wiring converter failed.
Have not had time to install new part but expect no problems.
Received order promptly as well.

Worked great, just what I needed. Very happy with no problems.

Got the 5 to 4 wire converter for my 2015 Goldwing aand installed it recently. Excellent product with well marked wires. Unit was well sealed from the weather and is working great! Fast shipping too!

Highly recommend

Still working perfectly!

It took me a lot of time trying to figure out what I needed to adapt a 6 Pin round to a 4 Pin flat on a 2008 Winnebago View with always on daytime running lights. Brake lights wouldn't illuminate, turn signals worked fine, and DRLs were always on the towed vehicle as well as the View. Normal plug-in adapters won't work and there was no way without an expensive Dealer reprogramming to disable the DRLs.
This baby did the trick, once the brake controller wire was identified it was a simple matter of splicing.

This unit worked well with my 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI. The only thing I had to do to make it work better was to run two relays, one for the running lights and one for the brake lights.

Other than that issue, It's an easy to install and easy to wire type of deal.
Still functioning perfectly a whole year later!

the Tekonsha trailer light module solved the problem of no stop light power to the trailer I was working on. Amy was very helpful and pleasant to work with. I tell everyone if you need anything for trailers just call E Trailer. Joe

Great kit to add to any carI found the instruction easy to understand and I event watched the install video on the site. I am a pretty good elecrical guy so it was no problem for me, but you are going to need to know how to test probe the tailight plugs to find out what wires to connect to. I would suggest not using scotch locks to connect to the wires. Soldiering is the only way to make sure you arent damaging the wires. Good wiring option in a small package.

Thank you so much for your promptness and complete answer to my initial inquiry and providing a product that worked. The one my mechanic had installed did not work.

Product was just fine but etrailer takes service and training to the next level. Great how-to videos, schematics and diagrams make it very clear on how to install. Thanks!

The staff at had my order filled and at my doorstep in 3 days. Amazing service and one stop shopping for high quality parts. I added them to my favorites list.

This converter was exactly what I needed for my Honda trike and I received it in just 2 or 3 days very pleased

We ordered lights and an electrical hookup for a 1965 Starcraft Tent Trailer! It came correct and very quick. like four days! Easy and fast!

I installed this on a 2008 Honda Goldwing. It was an easy install and works as advertised. Great service from e-trailer.

Just what was needed. Excellent quality. Did not expect the electronics to be sealed as well.

works great

Easy install (though haven't gotten the trailer to give it a try yet). Seems to be of good quality.

Ordered and delivered in less than 24 hours with free shipping!

Thanks Etrailer.

  • Tow Ready Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
The trailer wiring harness part # 119178 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2004 Volkswagen Jetta but you would actually want the part # 119178KIT instead as it comes with a circuit tester and some quick splices to make the needed connections. It is not uncommon for the wires on your vehicle to be a little bit thinner than the wires of the Circuit Protected Taillight Converter with 4-Pole End, part # 119178. As long as you are tapping into the correct turn signals and brake and running lights, you should not have any problems.
